so i have a fever, and i'm hella tired but i cant sleep because random shit hurts. so as i'm trying to sleep my mind starts to wander about how much fun i had with the remixed Quiz and Dragons portion of Sirlin's CCC vol 2 (but... way too easy for an actual Capcom fan, and with too few questions). Naturally, I thought to apply the idea to CvS2!
This little quiz is meant to be some parts educational, some parts interesting, some parts... just quizzy for the sake of being quizzy
Winner is the dude that scores the most points (some questions have multiple answers, and are worth multiple points). In the event of a tie, dude that posted first wins

3. KUROSU KATTA!? Nah, clearly the answer here is Shin Akuma. Eating double fireball into sweep into super or something stupid from the computer hurts so bad...

25. Every character I play, looks like their stuck to the wall. It's safer to be in the corner, that way you can't be crossed up. Just like you should NEVER attack Sagat while he's down and has meter. If you have a choice between being shot and being blown up, that's not much of a choice.

Look on the bright side, this quiz could be a LOT worse
Maj probably knows a lot of crazy system/combo junk that no one else would know, if he didn't post it on sonichurricane. The combo meter showing up empty due to message overload was pretty crazy.
And asking people to explain WHY some juggle combos work would be downright mean. :P
My personal favourite though would be:
"How do you roll cancel Sagat's low fierce."
Is this a take-home quiz aka "take an hour to do research" quiz or a pop quiz aka "off the top of your head"? Cuz i'm going with the latter option.
1) My low fierces don't get JD'd (aka no clue)

3) Rolento, Yuri, Kyosuke ... do air fireballs count? There are lots of those.
6) Ohnuki? Maybe Watson? My hero Watson is missing from top 8 a lot these days.
7) Raiden, Vice, Rugal? Pretty much guessing here.
8) Blanka lvl3 one hit super, Rock lvl3 Rising Tackle, Balrog Gigaton. Guile's Sonic Hurricane can be out of range sometimes, i think.
9) Namonaki. Though, it's kind of a trick question cuz the name means that it doesn't have a name, right?
11) Heard too many conflicting reports on these phantom stage problems.
13) Does that in include special moves? If so, then Hibiki, Kyo. Does it include meaty attacks? If so, then Kim for sure and maybe a whole bunch of others. Does it include juggles? If so, then it's pretty easy to juggle after Ken's overhead (http://sonichurricane.com/media/cvs2xtra03.html).

15) Kinda hard to top K-Gief lvl3 FAB. Also, K-ShinGouki Raging Demon. But apart from those two, my money is on C-Todo command grab (midscreen) into lvl2 wave super xx whiff command grab for maximum hits. Also i'm not sure but Sai-Rec A-Todo combo might be possible off a command grab. If you mean normal throws only, then probably A-Hibiki.

28) What does "full-length" mean? If you mean a really long combo video for sale, then it was Sai-Rec's first Harvest video. Otherwise, there are too many to be sure. When CvS2 first came out there were combo videos popping up all over the place. The very first one might have been Amir or Persona.

Wow, i was guessing most of the time. A lot of it is really technical numerical info that i never bothered memorizing cuz it's in guides. Fun quiz though. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the answers.
Edit: Regarding the first CvS2 video, it definately wasn't James Chen's video cuz he took his time with it, making it really diverse and giving it that action-packed "it almost looks like match play" feel. Plus it wasn't hosted on ComboVideos.com cuz that website was like two years away from existing at that point. James' video was hosted on SRK, back when SRK had content. Ok, that's a lie. SRK didn't have content back then either, haha. I'm also 95% sure it wasn't BAS' video cuz the first time that got posted anywhere, there had already been at least a dozen combo videos released. Though, i guess it's possible that it was made a long time ago and that it took forever for the elite people to get around to sharing it. Seriously, my money is on Amir, cuz it seemed like that guy released like 3 combo videos within 3 hours of getting the game and then made a 4th one the next day before retiring from combo video making. I'm exaggerating a bit, but that guy was on the scene EARLY.

Umm, I have no clue if you exclude hibiki, but Hibiki can cancel her overhead dp+k into slashes, Kim, he can combo another kick of his overhead kick (I think)

I didn't have time to test more, but K-gief versus a-akuma, 7700 Lv3 Final atomic buster...
The combo I was gonna test was with c-iori and it might do more or I could be completely wrong... oh or Raged todoh, wave combo in the corner...

You do it the headstomp, then hold up, until the top of the jump back arc and then over... and then bison flys far away.

Haha, actually i'm not a big fan of keeping secrets when it comes to game engine knowledge. Just about everything i've ever found in CvS2 has been posted somewhere. Only exception is if i'm working on a video, i'm obviously not going to spoil it by talking about it ahead of time, but i make all the info public after the video is released. So i definately don't think i could have made as good a quiz as the one Buk posted. Plus he was feeling sick at the time. So in a way, Buktooth is the Michael Jordan of CvS2 quiz-making.

Just answering the ones that drew my interest.
Spoilers?
1) Sagat's cr. HP is -3. Tested by Buk himself. Haha
2) Vice and Claw Vega for sure, don't think there's any others, but who knows?
3) Kyosuke is the one that comes to mind, given u can get the 2nd hit of his fireball crazy late. Sadly though, it works on some standing characters, like rolento in hit stun causes the 2nd fireball to hit really late, so... only if the other character is crouching is disqualified...? As other people mentioned, other air fireballs should hit later if the other guy crouches, so you get more time. Yuri's hop fireball travels slooow, it kinda already gives advantage, but it's gets even worse if they duck block it, so shrugs. Yuri trap anyone?
8. Fast supers will hit it back. Blanka's Direct Lightning is too slow, and Bison's RH scissors kicks are slightly too slow. So look for anything that takes 15,16 something frames to get over there. Too bad only supers are allowed, do I get a cookie for noticing Dhalsim's st. HP punishes strong slash for FREE, regardless of hit or block. (11 frame startup, sadly st. LK whiffs by a hair, st. MK and RH go right over Hibiki's head at the range it's used, st. MP lacks reach, and st. jab doesn't go anywhere :P) On a side note, it kinda makes you wonder, whether there are any supers that are only able to punish the slash on reversal, but can be JD'd or parried using that 1 frame before blocking exploit.
10. Cough random junk thread. Finding that some of the Capcom top tier had short throw ranges as well was pretty surprising. Also confirming Sak's magic teleport throw has normal throw range.
13. Most air dives don't count, because not only can most be blocked high or low, they are also airblockable. Sak,Cammy, Yun air dive (airblockable), Akuma, Beni's, Kim's (not even overheads) all fail.The only one that stuck out to me immediately was Kim's stance overhead. Most of the normal command move overheads in this game can't be cancelled and have very few active frames so. Hibiki's cancellable overhead most people got. Maj getting ken's 2nd hit of crazy kicks to juggle as a solution = LOL.
Theoretically, you might be able to do something if you hit with the very end of Akuma's f+MP overhead, you should be able to get it up to +4, but the combo would have to start with a jab or short, and I don't know if they'll reach. That and actually trying it would be a pain, as perfect timing is needed, or it won't combo. Theoretically, Yuri might be able to combo off her butt move, she should be at +3 if done exactly right, and I think the butt moves her forward? So you might be able to close st. jab/short after it, maybe? Yama's overhead f+MP could go as high as +4, I think you should be able to link the jab/low short after it or something. His special overhead is a knockdown, so no dice? Rock goes as high as +4 as well, you might be able to do something, but you'd have to link off st. jab, the rest of his moves are too slow or won't reach likely.
[Edit: Totally slipped my mind. I heard that in revision 2 of CvS2 upper, Iori's f+MK instadizzies the opponent if it hits. So that goes on the list too.]
14. Yuri and Rolento. Hehe. Rolento spamming alpha counter is probably a lot more common than Yuri.
15. Most damage from a throw HAS to be CPU Shin Akuma or God Rugal grabbing you with their supers. CPU super bosses get a +150% to their damage, you can't top 7000*2.5 damage. That and they're ratio 4, so they get an even bigger bonus. Yikes.
19. Can't remember if this was tip of day, random junk or whatever. Just remember seeing it.

21. Pretty sure it's video-opera. I remember that site for two, maybe 3 reasons. Besides the A-grooves thread, there was the SvC review, and one time on the front page, there was a post showing I think BC/Seattle Guilty Gear vids, and the caption was something along the lines of, "If you wanna learn how to play Guilty Gear, here's how NOT to do it." Ouch :P
23. Geese's st. short is the 2 frame move, not his jab. Ryu, Ken and Akuma have 2 frame standing jabs, but not crouching. Rolento's jab is a 3 framer. Props to the guy who got Benimaru. Other one is Haohmaru. Mashing on jab with Haoh was the first I learned to do in this game lol. Mash on jab, cr. HP jumpins, and throw if they rolled the jab. Haha. Summary list: Chun Li, Dic Bison, Benimaru, Haohmaru I think.
Btw, yeah Jame's Chen's thing was a bad guess regardless, but I wasn't quite thinking right. I guess the words full length threw me off, cuz that to me was a video that covered everything, rather than just being a strict combo video. Plus, I didn't mean that I first saw it on combovideos. i've played VDO a lot, and he scrolls random select, looks up to the sky, and slaps a button aka RANDOM SELECT for his ratio 2 between raiden/yama/geese/haohmaru/etc. if VDO picked good P-characters like cammy and kyo and played them consistently, he would destroy people. too good.
and you do the glitched bison headstomp by making contact, putting the stick to neutral, and holding the direction that you want to go a second later at the peak of his jump.

-3. This was the first move i tested when trying to figure out the formula for JD guardstun. -3 is pretty much safe, but a k-sagat player can go for (2 frame) standing jab, link low forward and see what happens

haha, i've given plenty of forum posters a hard time, but im pretty sure it's always been in good fun. with that said, a few years back kcxj had just gotten his hands on a cvs2 book, and i guess whatever he saw inside just blew his mind. for a good long period of time it was all 'this move is awesome look it's +3' etc. one time, he made a statement which i personally thought was hilarious, which was something to the effect of "chun's standing strong isn't even that good, it's -1!". i think kang was mad at me for like a year or something for making fun of him too, haha

morikawa, a-hibiki bison blanka. morikawa was realllllly close to eliminating tokido from sbo1, but tokido managed to pull some really ugly bison comeback that really should never have happened
the next year for sbo morikawa got pulled out of retirement to play on iyo's and version's team. they got sawada's team first round, morikawa goes back into retirement, haha

everybody got this wrong. at max range, only balrog's gigaton blow can punish a hibiki slash. yes, this includes cammy super and rock super. whoever wrote sonic hurricane and blanka super are like, extra wrong. you can actually combo 3 shorts, jab xx slash and still be able to block the blanka super if you do it right. sonic hurricane doesn't even reach if you do the combo normally
9) What is the name of Gunter's site, which contains CvS2 information?
namonaki.com (http://namonaki.com) is a really under-appreciated site for cvs2 players: it's got all the frame data laid out all pretty and easy to read, tons of pictures, lots of agroove combos for every character... in many ways it's a better resource than the cvs2 book because of its accessability

the cvs2 book is straight up wrong on all of these characters except hibiki and yun. these were all tested with the "get point blank, make then block a jab, then try to throw them in the opposite direction" test. none of these characters can do it

Dude it's gotta be more than that. As an extreme case, consider Sagat. The height difference between him standing and him crouching is huge. It's gotta take at least 5 frames longer for an air fireball to reach crouching Sagat than standing Sagat. Of course you can use horizontal spacing to make sure that the fireball hits at the last possible moment even against standing Sagat, but then again horizontal spacing ruins the Kyosuke example too. If you do it from far enough, it won't make a difference if the opponent is standing or crouching.

Isn't that based on some ambiguous definition like "from one character's center to the other's center"? Seems like most of the characters on that list are fat. Balrog used to be a fat character in the CPS1 SF2 games but then they gave him kind of a fucked up hitbox, making him more difficult to hit than it looks. Maybe his "center" is positioned further back on his sprite.

I mean, Rock's Shine Knuckle NOT being able to punish the slash, comes as a complete surprise to me really. I mean come on, everyone knows that super you use to nab silly people throwing fireballs from across the screen right? It's fast, goes across the screen in a flash, how could it fail? I mean if Shine Knuckle doesn't work, the is it such a bad thing that Sonic Hurricane doesn't work? Without a doubt, both Sonic Hurricane and super Blanka ball come to mind immediately in any fast supers contest. Trivia knowledge here is just how far back is Hibiki when she does that slash anyway? And if you don't play Hibiki (and I doubt you've played CvS2 for a long time Maj?), how would know the pushback on her combo is that good?
As for the other stuff: I think you're thinking too deep, and too good at finding loopholes :D. I mean, think about how the question was written. Kyosuke doesn't get much play, due to his reputation for being the worst character in the game? (hey, at least with King, you can roll and throw!) So... how about asking a question about his fireballs properties? That nice split projectile landing late => "oooh, exploitable". What's the easiest way to make it land late? Crouching. Ah, and when you write the question, you don't wanna give away the character too easy right? I mean, any addendum you slap on will probably make it painfully obvious that's it Kyosuke right? To be honest, I can't think of a simple way to ask the question, without having some loophole in it. You definitely don't want to allow anything that lets you say throw a slow power wave, and run/jump across screens to get "frame advantage" or anything silly. And you dont' wanna spend 5 years wording up a question either right?
As for me, I answered the WRONG question. See initially, I was like, oh, he said strong slash, because everyone knows Bison scissor kicks can punish the jab one right? So, off I go training mode. And the first time I did the dummy recording, I mashed out the shorts, jab, strong slash. Then I remembered, Ah yes, if you link the shorts, and don't chain them, you get more pushback! So I gave myself a mental pat on the back, rerecorded Hibiki doing the combo, then started testing. Sadly though, I forgot the question wasn't about seeing what can hit back Hibiki's B&B when done perfectly. It was asking for MAX range slash. I'm betting a lot of trivia testers would've just gone for the cr. short x3 combo to try and hit back the slash, because how else do you set up a max range slash? See, if you wanted to get the right answer to this question, you'd have to do something like set the dummy to run you into the corner (so it's now a fixed distance), step back, and by trial and error find the max range of the slash, and try to hit THAT back.
For the record, Dhalsim's fierce can hit back cr. shortx3 even when done perfectly, but fails against max range strong slash, because it's OUT OF RANGE. Buk, you sneaky bum, my attempt to find a loophole has failed :(

No, not at all. In my initial response i said that Sonic Hurricane isn't a good counter to Hibiki's slash. That stuff about Total Wipeout was a joke. No drama between Buk and me, ever. I'm not taking this seriously at all. Just bouncing ideas back and forth. To me, it's like, why bother posting if i don't have something original to say? Besides, i think i covered all the possibilities in my previous posts. I said i thought it was a great quiz, i said i was just answering off the top of my head, and i said that i didn't really want to win. Isn't that based on some ambiguous definition like "from one character's center to the other's center"? Seems like most of the characters on that list are fat. Balrog used to be a fat character in the CPS1 SF2 games but then they gave him kind of a fucked up hitbox, making him more difficult to hit than it looks. Maybe his "center" is positioned further back on his sprite.
im pretty sure it's measured as the distance between the edge of both characters' collision boxes, e.g. push each other, move 52 pixels back and throw them. if the throw ranges were measured from the characters' centers, then you'd have raiden's throw range actually not be all that special (when it definitely is gigantic) and chang's throw range be puny
Have the opopnent tech vice's throw, then reversal nailbomb. It makes a teleport happen on ps2 at least.

a lot of people seemed to have missed my criteria of overheads having to be un-airblockable, sigh
kim's stance overhead leaves him at +5, which makes it pretty easy to link low short, stand short xx rushy super after it. this is pretty common actually
kim's normal overhead (f+rh) can be comboed after in a few different ways, though these are all a lot less practical:
-overhead, go into stance, kara cancel jab into rushy super (really hard)
-overhead, go into stance, kara cancel jab into launcher super (stupid impossible hard)
-overhead hits counterhit, link stance jab and cancel into whatever you want
also, hibiki dp+k (which most people got), and kyo's 2nd overhead rekka into ground pound
maj gets an e-hug for successfully finding a loophole and mentioning that ken can juggle off of his funky kick overheads

a-todo: command grab, CC, [s.HP, c.HP, c.HP, s.HP... until 10 hits], [s.HP xx jab wave, c.HP xx jab wave] x N, jab wave xx level 1 wave super = 10000+ damage
k-todo: command grab, walk up, close strong, low fierce xx level 3 wave super = 10000 damage

the correct way to do it is to do a headstomp, pick a direction to fly off and hold it, then after bison steps on the dude and pops up to the apex of his bounce, let the stick go to neutral

chun li, cammy, guile. cammy and guile can't be juggled as low as chun, but there's still a lot of stuff you can do to them that can't be done normally

Yeah those links are HARD. If any meaty overhead combos do exist, i don't even want credit for mentioning them. I dunno why they made CvS2 overheads so laggy. I guess the CvS2 overhead policy is "make them impossible to combo off of, but give them hellllluva range." Almost all of them are negative on the frame advantage. And the closer you get to decent numbers, the smaller the active frame range gets, which means less room for decent meaty.
Kim's alternate stance overhead is really good though. You definately don't need meaty for that. I got kinda mixed up on that one, even though i've made combo clips using that as non-meaty.
Kyo ground pound combo was obvious. Dunno why more people didn't mention that. Maybe TOO obvious?
Actually C-Hibiki has a way of juggling off her overhead (http://sonichurricane.com/media/cvs2juggle.html) too, but i don't think it qualifies as a valid answer to the question because the setups are too limited. You need corner plus opponent in the air plus exact spacing plus one-frame timing. But it looks cool.

it also lets him get out of the corner much more safely than a random psycho crusher, and functions as a relatively safe attack which builds a large chunk of meter for bison. also, headstomp becoming really good in turn makes its companion move, the devil's reverse, much better

haohmaru doesnt hjave a 2 frame jab.... the only chars with c.jab thats 2 frames is bison, chun li, and beni. thats it.

The glitched Bison headstomp is extremely useful, but there is a very simillar and more effective way of doing it.
"Do a headstomp and pick "any" direction to fly and hold it, then after steps on the dude and pops up to the apex "TAP" any direction again." Note that i said "TAP" and not "HOLD" because if you hold a direction after the stomp the glitch doesnt work.
Options:
From 1p or 2p side
Stomp, hold Left and then fly Left screen
Stomp, hold Left and then fly Right screen
Stomp, hold Right and then fly Right screen
Stomp, hold Right and then fly Left screen
