As it currently stands, MAC(Monster Ancient cline) Is very technical and NOTHING that has worked in previous versions of the game currently work with the new system. The new system is so great because now you wont have extremely long combos killing your opponent in 3 seconds. Now the game is equally offensive as it is defensive. When i get the OK to do so ill show off other characters but until then, Thats the best i can do.
Yes there are 6 new characters incase everyone was wondering if that was confirmed or not. It is indeed a fact. Shok, His team, And myself are all working very hard to make sure monster is a VERY solid game and we want to generate as much interest as possible!

im not too mad about the first, but the second one is pretty shocking. thats part of what makes this game unique, and i'd hate to see it go.

Although, I agree with Rogueyoshi. If I am understanding that sentence right, then special moves no longer have different properties when shifted? Then what is the point of the different shifts?

All the shifts maintain the same properties as before. They are just executed differently is all. When i get the OK to release more footage i will. I didnt get get the ok to release that footage lol

Thanks for the update Aya and risking your ass to post the new footage. I'm really glad to hear that there won't be any über-long combos in MAC and all of the other changes sound really good to me (aside from the moves not changing when shifted, but you said you'd elaborate on that more when the time comes, so I'm not worried :razz: ) Now, if I recall correctly, the Arcade version of MAC is gonna be getting all the new characters and stuff and the PC version of MAC isn't. Does this statement still stand? Because as much as I'd like to, I'm not gonna be able to dush out the cash for a whole machine. :sad: Either way, thanks again Aya, good way to keep the scene alive with hope. :tup:

As of right now for the PC version, AS FAR AS I KNOW OF it still stands. The members of Shok's company wanted to do something special for the people who have the PC version but i sadly cannot reveal what that is. If all goes well PC users will enjoy their version of the game just as well as the arcade version.

Ah well...far as I'm concerned, as long as the AC version is well done, gets an inevitable PS2 port, and a decent scene to support it, they can do whatever they deem fit for the PC version.

The PB system is alot like the old and is also alot different too, Its pretty hard to explain. It would be best if i made a video showing what it does now. When I can do that, I will. But what i can say is, it is ALOT better than it used to be for sure.

It seems as if the points don't count down anymore. Instead they stay there for a second, and then disappear.
Also, should we be worried that every combo shown thus far takes away 1/2 life. Is this going to be a 2 combo game?

no you shouldnt worry about that, the damage is getting tweaked as we speak to make sure that doesnt happen.

Can't you get some talks going with damdai and maybe Ponder? Monster could be the fighter to ever have such awesome netplay built into it. I like playing emulated games online and all, but I think these algorithms are going to waste in a sense. I know this isn't a trivial thing to demand, but it would really put the game on the (online) map. Pretty sure I've given otherwise shit games a chance just because they played well online.

The PC version is not going to have the Hi-Res sprites though is it? I'm sorry if that was mentioned before and I missed it. It really does seem weird. Its a good decision though, I think. Being able to play it on the PC doesn't necessarily mean arcade sales are going to be hurt. Both are completely different experiences. And it means people who otherwise would never have seen the updated game can actually explore it rather than playing the old PC patch.

Othello is pretty nice. I've been training with him along with the Delga and Katze for the past hour.
I like the shifts too. Freedom is currently my favorite.
I wonder what we should do with the wiki once the new game comes out. I'm thinking maybe to wipe it since nobody should really be playing 1.11b after anyways. Well either way, it's great to see some new people getting on this game, it's making me more excited for the relaunch of this game.

I've been interested in Monster after discovering Shok's page on FA. (Yes I'm technically a furry, please kill me.) At first I thought he was just another good kemono artist but on closer inspection I found he was the creator of Monster.
I'm still a novice, but I'm really more interested in watching this game's progression. If it becomes popular, then maybe it can help raise the furry fandom's standards.
Although people should really stop whining about the cast. The characters in Monster are kemonos, not furries. It's actually OK to respect kemos and kemo artists, since in general, their work usually breathes cool and contains 80% less porn.
(having said that, I was surprised by a few pictures in Shok's gallery. Normally you leave it up to the fans to draw stuff like that, lol.)

So read the last couples pages. Dash cancelling normals are gone.... Should I quit practicing this current Monster and wait the next version? Y'know since dash cancel combos were such a big thing to me.
i actually still kinda like the whole deal of F-Katze being able to do 5B 5C 66B activate then kara 236B into 5C over and over and over for over 7000 damage for no reason, it's like Reload Sol or something
he even goes TEYAH TEYAH TEYAH TEYAH TEYAH
i guess you guys are going to take that out though ;_;

Is it a bit late for these kind of suggestions to be taken into consideration by the team?
Either way, I'm glad to hear that the infinites will be removed. 0-death combos never make a game look good or balanced.
Edit: About Efleet...I hear talk that he's going to be turned into a real character. Is this going to be something like a toned-down boss version (like they did for UNKNOWN in EFZ) or will Efleet be replaced as the final boss and made into a competitive character? In that case, will he count as one of the 6 "new" characters?
Characters have been face-lifted and I think this time more consideration to the balance of the game is being looked at since there were a lot of bugs and some very abusive shit in the last few patches that we just overlooked as a community because we were still learning. Dash combos won't be there, but comboing as a whole is now a bit more difficult as you kind of have to think about what you want to do now. Of course I can't say for sure you can't just freestyle it once you get down the characters, but as a whole the characters don't seem that much more complicated, just different.

He is going to be a real character, and no he is not one of the six new characters. And there isnt really anymore suggestions that we need. Everything is practically finished. Its just putting things together now

And yeah, the thought of smoother animations has me excited too. I do admit that the animations in Monster so far have been good, but a bit stiff in places compared to some other doujin fighters.

I liked alot of the older tracks from monster, So imma see if its possible to keep a few of them. BUt I personally havent heard any of the new music yet. Every beta/New version i have has no music. Just sound tests and system changes

And that is why I run WinAMP/WMP/iTunes in the background while I play games. If you want the SFX still you can just turn off the game music in the options and leave some SFX noise.

Awesome stuff! It really looks a lot more stylish now. I love the colours and animation on Katze there. He just seems a lot more lively than before. Everything seems to have a real "snap" to it that looks like it has a great feel. And I love the new effects too. Colourful and cool. The action in general also looks a bit faster, although that could just be the new Katze.
The new hit counter that hangs around the actual characters is also very cool. Does that serve another purpose besides the point counter?
You can tell it's still incomplete, because Katze's costume keeps changing as he attacks. Something that I found interesting: his blue version isn't wearing a loincloth, just shorts. Does this mean we can expect different actual costumes depending on colours? That would be awesome! Perhaps we'll actually get to see Maya's legs. lol.
Hmm...I wonder who Shok's mascot character is? I would say Katze, but he seems to give Othello quite a bit of attention as well. And Maya could even be the heroine of Monster now that I think about it.
Any chance that when the new characters are revealed, we'll get some english translation on each character's backgrounds? Even browsing through Shok's FA page doesn't give me any information on the characters apart from Katze and Othello being very good friends, and that Maya seems to be some kind of understudy to Orju.

I'm loving how the new Katze looks like he'll be a lot more aerial than before. One thing that always irked me about Katze was that his aerials are all so difficult to land, because he doesn't use his legs at all. Now with all these launchers he has, he'll be able to put them to good use. (and also that funky meteore punch he has whatever it's called.)
I think that when the game first comes out, updating the Wiki would be a priority. I know that as a new player, that's usually the first thing I go to for information. A wiki filled with combos, tips, pictures and character info is perfect for luring new players in and getting them up and over the noob fence.
But of course, a few people will need to get good at the new game before the wiki can be updated. :P
I don't think I'll be much of a hands-on contributer. I probably won't be taking part in netplay or anything like that, but I'd be more than happy to theory. And contribute to the wiki, lol.
Speaking of Aleksander, he seems to me like a very difficult character to balance. Why was he low tier in the old game? Was it because he had a low damage output compared to the others? Considering that his sword attacks are unblockable, raising his damage too much could break him, as could making him any faster. So it will be interesting to see what they've done to buff him up this time.

its actually the other way around. he's been working on monster since before the first akatsuki even existed. also, there was a point in time where aleks was quite strong (superior to katze at least) before he was nerfed for unknown reasons.
Actually the only time he was really "stronger" than katze was when he had 449. Everyone was strong at that time, but Aleks had long ass air moves that could stuff other people's 449's aside from being unblockable. Fucking retarded stuff. He's been slowly getting nerfed but the reasons aren't unknown, Shok actually just doesn't like Aleks lol.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Been playing around with the game here and there and training mode and I've been enjoying it though I know I'm insanely scrubby. I also think I may have accidentally downloaded the wrong version since half the characters seem to be locked (unless, you need to unlock them, which makes me even more of a noob for not trying that yet). Sort of leaning towards using Siely as a main.

As everyone else does, I suspect more humans. Which is a pity because part of what makes monster interesting is the focus on animal characters.

The only thing that really even gives something of a notion to him having any "Ninja-like" attributes is his weapon. It looks like a sort of kusari-gama.
But beyond that...eh. Supposedly he lost his memory, so maybe it could be a thing like DOA's Hayate/Ein, where he doesn't know what his "real" fighting style is supposed to be like, and just uses brute strength to get results.
On another note, I'm looking forward to seeing what ShoK and crew are doing with those CG FMVs. The few bits we've seen thus far look rather nice, and they're supposed to be even more where that came from...

I agree though, there are few characters in that bunch that certainly would be a little too risque to make it in. (especially that horrible pig-man thing.)
I mean as it is, Katze and Othello are hardly wearing anything. Although having said that, one of the good things about the furry/kemono art style is that animal characters look surprisingly decent in things that no human should ever wear.
I would expect that most of the new characters won't be Shok's original creations, but characters borrowed from his friends. So we may get even more diversity in the cast that we'd previously thought.
Sometimes I feel like Shok included Maya and Seilie in Monster just to distract people from the male-intensive (and in Othello/Katze's case -mildly homoerotic-) cast of furs. They don't do a very good job of it, lol.

Well, now I can't unsee that. Damn. Anyway I didn't really get that vibe from the characters. They seemed wholesome enough to me. I better remember not to mention this to my friends when I introduce them to the game. It was hard enough when I didn't see the cast in this light >.>
Here's hoping for something that has a 99% likelihood of not happening: Getting all of the new characters in the demo instead and none of the old characters so that when the game is officially released, we don't have stupidness like everybody hogging up and only playing the 6 new characters for the first couple weeks/month.

I doubt we'll get another tiger. So far with the animal characters, there haven't been any repeated species besides the humans...and I doubt Sielie is 100% human.
Besides, we already have 3 felines (Katze, Orju and Ryugen) and only 2 canines (Othello and Rail)
Although tigers are very popular with the kemo community.
Actually, if anything I'm expecting a bear.

Actually he doesnt, Aleksander was created as a joke initially. Shok WANTED aleksander to a bad character from the jump. hence why he didnt spend much time of fixing him before lol. Things have changed however thanks to some "aya" influence lol

It confounds me to think that a character with unblockable standard attacks would be made purposefully bad. I always figured it was more a matter of overestimation when it came to balancing, but lol.
Joke characters can be good fighters too. Just look at Wario in SSBB.
Currently, my favorite characters are Othello, Katze and Maya. I don't really connect with any of the others, so I'm eager to see what the new 6 have to offer, as well as completed Efleet.
Just a question for Aya: Is Efleet going to be a "power" character? I can assume that he's not going to be the cheap boss character that he is in the current versions of the game, but will the slow, heavy fighting style remain? I kind of enjoyed it to be honest. Just using those big explosive moves like a fortress of fire. :D

Not saying that I can't, I just don't want to do anything with the old one since I hear this one is getting completely revamped.
Don't let trying the old game out deter you for now, it's still a great game and checking it out doesn't hurt while you're waiting.
Regarding Aleksandr, talking with ShoK that one time revealed a lot about the character itself. ShoK didn't want to change the character at all and at one point had plans to eventually get rid of the character, but aside from Aya and ShoK's team, who knows what made him get any sort of chance again. Any upgrade would be great for him though, aside from a couple bad match-ups, he was pretty viable until the latest patch when he basically made doing damage with him really really hard as if shit wasn't hard enough before.

Hmm, maybe Shok isn't friends with Aleksandr's creator anymore? Or maybe he just thought he was too out of place?
Anyway, I'm sure he has his fans, so I'll be interested to see what the new Aleksandr has to offer.
I'll be repping new Aleks anyways, I'm more interested in him than the new characters right now since he's been my main for awhile until the latest patch where I had to switch Rail just because the changes made Aleks retardedly unfun to play. OTGs were hard to hit, lost his ability to really follow-up with anything worth a shit after a 662C, all his combos that did do damage had strict timing and spacing for them to do full damage and his supers no longer could really be followed up by anything. His Lv1 236C could no longer be followed up making it not as good as before where he could hit it and then combo off of it before making it useless as a continuer, but great as a starter since it's invincible and unblockable from start to finish.

I got a feeling that Othello will be slightly nerfed if anything. I can't see his gameplay being changed too much, I mean he's probably the original wolf who bit Talbain...He's got to keep his Dalkstalker-like combo ability and specials.
A faster 66C axe kick might also be nice.
Isn't it funny: Katze is all about the punches, while Othello is the kick master.

For them to basically be the "Ryu" and "Ken" of this particular game, such a thing ain't that shocking. The "two rivals possessing traits and fighting styles that (conveniently) compliment, as well as directly contrast each other" is an old-hat thing for fighting games. In that instance, ShoK just went along with what he knew worked well enough before. :rofl:
As for Othello changes? Well, the ol Gallon/Talbain-head in me wants to see him just get more of the old dawg's stuff. For instance, a non-SC version of Beast Cannon, for one. :wink:

I can't see his damage output being lowered. Othello's style suits itself towards big hard hits with good range. Perhaps his blood moves will hurt him a lot more, or he'll be made just a tad slower all around.
Oh! I almost forgot. No doubt we'll finally be able to use the absurd specials. I could never get any of them to work, so I assumed they were being saved for the final version of the game.

new system mechanic: Techrolling
Yeah Shok and I had a bit of a debate about this. But Eventually came to an agreement that it was the right thing to do. So characters can now techroll when knocked down. This prevents down attacks. But as we have it right now you cannot shift right after you techroll(to prevent abuse) and tech's are catchable via supers(also prevents this from being abused)
Absurds worked, just most of them weren't practical and some of them were insane. Katze's Cat's Eye was one of those practical gg absurds, whereas Orju's was quite good, but it was more of a novelty where you could do better shit by just shifting instead. The fact that you lost all ability to regain your meter after using it hurt the point of using them and basically if you don't use it to finish an opponent, you won't see it used at all (unless you are or are fighting Katze because he CAN kill you with his Absurd and quite easily).
P.S. Rail's Absurd was great too XD Unblockable projectile wins until you find out it scales, you can get PB'd out of it and you need to beat more than half the life out of your opponent before it'll actually kill and outside of a combo, it's not guaranteed if the opponent has 1 meter or more.
P.S.S. Techrolling sounds great though I think the toss up between either comes down to what happens at the end of a match more importantly. Both lead into freakish setups as theory wise you should only techroll against someone who's shifted and/or without meter and you shouldn't against someone with. Techrolling is actually more dangerous since you lose more for getting hit during a techroll with most supers and their follow-ups then the little you lose from an otg and any unblockable on wake up. I'd only really see teching happening on wake up unless otg moves got larger hitboxes and recovered slower so players commit (or techrolling is just as fast as most otgs) or they're about to die and you're fighting against someone who just does the same thing over and over again on wake-up.
This is all conjecture though and most of us won't know how it really works until we get to try it, but I think worrying about techroll abuse is kind of over thinking the mechanic. Depending on what you need to do to techroll, the balancer is in how easy it is to execute and it avoids some ground damage, but if anything like 1.11b, you have characters like Othello that would just cross you up if you had to roll back to get back up which might end up being worst for you.
All in all though, I'd still like to thank you Aya for looking out for the Monster community. Let's hope the release is solid enough that we can actually start making tutorial videos that can be used for more than 1 patch!

techrolling, huh? Well it works in other fighters. So long as you don't go overboard with the defensive options in this game like they did in SSBB.
I agree with XII about the usefulness of techrolling in Monster, although it can help in getting out of things like Maya's corner trap.

That's something I've always wondered about; was it really Rail gone deliciously evil, or did he just get possessed, cloned or some other random crap?
As interested as I am about this game in the gameplay and technical aspects, I'm also interested in finally getting some interesting things about the characters and their world. Til now, it's been basically a bunch of kooky kemonos and humans/humanoids throwing down with little known about what's going on.
Rail and Efleet are of the same race, Efleet is just more badass than Rail canon-wise. Rail shoots 1 spirit, Efleet shoots like 20.

In old and current version we have 2 exe, monster and monster_hd.
My question is what resolution will MONSTER:AC use?
It’s going to use 1280x720 for monster_hd or just keep 640x480 with not scaled character models? Arcade board is only using 640x480, but can be better on PC, far better.
For like most of the other people who already have widescreen and super widescreen monistors, it's still gonna be ugly trying to upscale. Plus in the end, the game was never about how great it looked in stills, the animations were strong enough to support itself and you know you don't have time to sit there and oogle them graphics ;D

Actually the whole killing blow was the fact that we had good players on both East and West coast and the netcode just wasn't strong enough to support that and that slowly choked the life out of the community and any chance of getting new players to join that could actually connect to us. Now with Aya giving his input and ShoK very aware of the International scene that is interested in Monster, the new netcode will allow us to have 55-60fps games (meaning playable) as anyone who's played has known that dropping to 50 and below makes the game not worth playing because we're so used to such fast mix-up speeds, the slightly slower speeds and lag really mess up the fun of the game.

I was totally playing 1.11b for awhile after the game got unpopular again and the room emptyized itself. I think it was just me an a guy name "mroo" (pretty good player). I picked up a NEW CHARACTER even. Me! The fighting game scrub who only ever played Orju! Man its gonna be nostalgic. "Hey kids, remember when Orju could do half-life combos with 1 stock and kill you with 2? No? Man those were the days..."
Also, we should totally have a 1.0a tournament sometime. Or not.
I think my only real question is powerbreaks. I felt like powerbreaks were viable in the early versions because most characters could do comparable combo damage off one by shifting / clashing at an opportune moment, but later and in 1.11b powerbreaks were difficult due to the revamping of the point system and the changing in floatyness of PB'd characters making PB combos fairly rare and the damage you could get out of one minimal. Is this addressed? Are PBs useful and a tactic you can use again?

At the moment, Delga's suffering from "Cammy syndrome" (Oh noez, I've lost my memory, and I got to keep fighting EVERYDAY until I get it back!), and Rail's got his own issues (probably relating to Efleet, at least).
Between all the random crap both of them have to go through, they'll probably could at least have a sort of comrade-like link. After all, "misery likes company".
...But how old is Rail supposed to be any way? Is he really a shota-dog boy of some sort, or is it just a thing that he just appears "youthful" because his species is as such?
And while we're on the subject of character speculation, just how much of a pimp is the "Orjuice" any way? :rofl:

Katze DP has always been godly and it hasnt changed much. Orju's DP on the other hand was COMPLETELY useless by all standards.

I'm actually really worried about Aleksandr and Seilie now. I mean something in me is telling me that when the new Aleks is revealed, he'll be an unstoppable war machine with devious specials, fast unblockables everywhere and infinites coming out the wazoo.
Seilie on the other hand has the potential to be too fast and too powerful if she's buffed too much. But I'll trust you guys to get the game's balance just right for all characters. Just as long as Othello doesn't become the omega wolf of this pack, then I'll be pleased.
Oh and of course Efleet better be as cool as I'm hoping for. I plan to main him alongside Othello.
And also: man I sure hope that Delga and Rail aren't <3. If that turns out to be canon, then the current cast of Monster only contains a possible 3 heterosexual males (Ryugen, Orju and Aleks) and the only confirmed one out of those is Orju. Currently with a confirmed 3 homosexual/bisexual characters (Othello, Katze, Delga)

Well it looked pretty official to me. Full colour pictures and everything, and he said it was for a "story he was writing".
Much more substance than just that one sketch he drew of Rail and Delga anyway. While Othello and Katze might not be in love, they are at least close friends with benifits (according to ShoK's art anyway.)

Well, look at it this way: instead of just having "implied" homosexual undertones (which is what I think is definitely the case in series like KOF and even SF), this game will follow right in Guilty Gear's footsteps and just do more to make it plain and out there, and people will just have to deal with it. :rofl:
Besides, does it really matter all that much? As much as I like learning about characters and their back-stories, it really doesn't do much to affect how otherwise, this is a game that still involves people (furry or otherwise) punching each other in the face in various ways. And that's what most important, ain't it? :wgrin:
Furthermore, we know we're going to get more characters with AC. I'm sure there will be probably at least 1 more "manly"/"pimptatistic" male to be had to fit in with Orju and Ryougen. And who knows? Maybe we might get some interesting females too...
All this homo furry talk is gonna scare away any potential future players we might get, seriously. That and I wouldn't be too worried about any infinites as ShoK has always had something to take care of that. What you should be worried about are 100% combos which also seem unlikely as each version of the game has nerfed the damage output considerably for all characters and the only "infinites" in the game were all semi-infinites that depended on PB or shift to pull off. Only thing you need to worry about is if Aleks gets an easier OTG game again and has a way of dealing with chibi characters because that's one of the reasons he sucked so hard against a lot of the cast was because he had a weak wake up game against people who could just crouch under his 662C without worry as everything else was slow enough to backdash on reaction.
Some of the most flexible character designs need to be put on a pedestal like Rail and old Maya. Seriously, those characters have such amazing flexibility in their specials. Eve
