I hear constantly that "the internet is not serious" or "c'mon, it's only the internet!" and I'm here to contest that opinion. I believe that anything you say, whether written on paper, pixelated displays or napkins, is to be taken seriously (for the most part). I understand how some people want to joke around every once in a while, but if the internet is 'not serious' then it would imply that everyone is joking at all times. While it's true you can be someone else on the internet, and therefore can't always take the person's personality seriously, there is still a lot of validity to the internet. I'm just wondering what everyone else's position is on teh internets and how seriously you can take it. I find that when someone uses "It's just the internet, c'mon" as an excuse, there is no reasoning behind it.

(I also suspect people won't take this post seriously, thus is the nature of the GD, and therefore thanks in advance to people with VALID responses.)

Saying "The internet isn't serious" just begs the question, "well what is serious?". People usually respond with "Real Life", but the problem is that people use their real life time and energy to be on the internet, so obviously it's serious to some level.

There's always a reason behind someone's internet image. Even if they don't care at all about their internet image, there is a reason they don't care. The problem is that it's hard enough to communicate as it is (irl or on the net), so it's one thing to figure out the image that your seeing, much less figre out why that image is being presented.

Since that's way too deep for most random internet discussions, it's just better to just not take anyone seriously and let them go about their buisness unless there's a reason to do otherwise.

For anyone who is watching dateline right now, your seeing that the internet is sometimes pretty serious =P. For those not watching, it's a new "To catch a predator", 2007 edition.

Granted, my post WAS intended for SRK in general. BUT, forum debates are nothing to wrack your brain over. I post on another forum and I usually end up flaming the hell out of most of the members there. I'd say, one or two, of them ACTUALLY took me seriously and never came back. It was hilarious, actually. But, yeah, nothing to throw a fit over. If you can have a clean and healthy debate without flaming, then more power to you. Now if someone flames you, flame back and just don't cry about it and think about it all day at work/school/social outting. It's not that serious.

Well, I wasn't here for the Bloofy Saga. Although, I saw Bloofy Ressurected. Which lasted two or three threads. So, to that guy, yeah, he needed help.

As for the Motoki Saga. We retconned that nigga out of SRK continuity. Man, the "Farewell Motoki" chapter was the best. That thread caught the serious derailment and lead to one of the greatest flame threads ever. But, yeah, he tried rubbing it off like "Naw, I don't take none of this shit seriously. You all suck blah blah blah". And yet when I called him out on it as to why he kept responding he got all teary eyed and cried about it.

I mean, damn, you can't take this stuff to heart. I've gotten flamed before and never took it to heart. I always found it funny how people took this message board nonsense seriously when even THEY themselves know that the internet has given the greatest Johnny Doughnuts of all time a voice.
