Ok, so one of the great things about living in the southeast is that when we get "bad weather" (snow, ice), we aren't prepared to handle it, and the entire area shuts down. Both the college that I teach at and the college that I go to cancelled classes today, so I'm enjoying paid leave.

I was just curious if any other parts of the country have similar situations - I lived in a suburb of Kansas City for a while, and was there during the biggest ice storm that the area had ever seen. Since it snowed all the time during the winter, it wasn't that big a deal as far as my job was concerned, and business went on as usual. What kind of weather conditions (beside the obvious hurricanes, floods, tornados, etc) constitute the same type of scenario where YOU live?

I haven't seen actual snow in Alabama since like '00. It'd be nice but I'M NOT IN SCHOOL ANY FUCKING MORE DAMMIT!

A snow day now would be just wrong; especially since the school I just graduated from has a new "Fall Break" that I never got to enjoy.

Hahahahah! I noticed that a lot of the businesses were still open in the area. We went out and ate lunch, you could have come too...oh wait...

The Truth, in my area of GA they close the schools and business if they have any idea that it might possibly snow. they shut down our schools last night thinking it was gonna snow, it didnt, it just rained over night. it is pretty cold though.

We get snow days almost every year here in PA. This year we've had a strange winter and no snow days just yet. Normally, when I was in high school too, we have off from school and with my job I get paid when we close for snow too. Also my college is a commuter college so they WILL close with poor weather, which hopefully is coming tomorrow . But around here it's pretty common and getting paid to stay home and go sledding is teh pwnage.

We got 2 inches of snow in Charlotte, which is a pretty big deal.

Everything's shut down, but it doesn't matter to me since I'm not in school this semester.
Most of the snow is just slush right now, though.

Remember that ridiculous blizzard that hit Colorado in the middle of December? Brought about 8-12 inches of snow?

Only some professors cancelled class.

Bullshit.

We've been covered with snow for weeks and I still have to walk to classes every day.

DAMN.

The one time it snowed in Savannah in the past 15 years, it only lasted for 4 hours. That was my only experience with snow...

My snow day was filled with guilt. It didn't really end up doing much, but I still didn't go to work.

It's OK, I guess. I needed the day off anyway. My company can stand for Rod Driguez to not be there for one friggin day, they'll live....
