Seriously. I was reading the GotFrag competitive fighting guide article and came across this in the MVC2 part:

I'm pretty sure no one has been shot, but has anyone been in or seen a fight break out over a game? Maybe a shouting match? Arcade or console play, it doesn't matter. :rofl:

I used to play in Downtown Brooklyn, and people would always talk shit about what they would do to you if you kept throwing, comboing, or whatever the fuck else you were doing to win.

I used to rape Brooklyn on a daily basis, and caught a lot of shit-talk over it, nobody ever actually did anything though.

I doubt anyone's gotten shot over Marvel. I've heard stories about fights, but I've never actually seen one that was truly over the game itself.

I almost got into a fight when this guy was being a dick to a bunch of kids playing MvC2. Screaming in their face, pushing them aside and cursing at them when he won. (This guy was I think 19 doing this to like 8 year olds. Yea, a pussy) I saw his game and knew I could school him. So I played him. He lost. He started throwing a fit. Then he played me again...same fit. Finally he said he wanted money on it. I was like....I don't play for money but how about this. If I beat you, you can't play this game the rest of the time your here and only let the kids play. If you win, I'll let you punch me (he threatened this every time I won). BUT if I win by perfect, you leave and don't come back for a month.

The owner of the place knew of the bet and was ready to take of picture of the guy just in case I perfected him.

Well...he sucked....hard. Back in the day I was really good (not now I stink) and I perfected him. He through a huge fit. Pushed me. I started to laugh at him. The kids started to laugh at him....shit everyone was laughing at him. He took a swing at me and I dodge easily. A bunch of people then grabbed him, beat him up a little and threw him outside. The owner said that guy has been a dick for a while now. I used to go to the arcade a lot back then and the owner knew me. So he rigged the machine to play for free for a hour so all the little kids the jerk was fucking with can play all they wanted.

I heard later he tried to come in a week later and the owner said he was banned for life, not only for being a dick, trying to hit a good customer but also because his ass had no game.

That was like 8 years ago...when MvC2 just hit the California Arcades. That was comedy.

I'd imagine fights can break out sometimes, particularly when it comes to trash talking scrubs who cannot handle losing.

Yes I am speaking from experience here. I've handed many a scrub their asses in MvC2, only to hear them talk shit about me because they are pissed that i whoop them every time we play.

It is annoying, I lose my fair share of matches too, but never whine like a bitch about it to the winner.

Immature Scrubs who can't handle losing and won't shut up about it, need to be temp banned from arcades.

I meet adversity at a lot of places I go. I've lost a few 'friendly' rivals for suddenly becoming less-than-friendly. The only time I can think of where I felt really threatened was back in High School. They had XMvSF at the local hangout, and the kids that played thought they were sooooo bad ass at that shit. I'd beast them with Sabretooth (which is funny, cos I suck - I just look for ways to land air throw into Weapon X all day), and one day, three or four of them were actually ready to scrap me. For some reason, this only happened like once, and they were all super cool with me after that. I don't know what the fuck happened that particular day.

Now I'm no expert in the 3S, but I know enough to kick some ass. One day my friend, his cousin, and I were playing 3S on PS2 and every time I played the cousin he would throw a serious fit. He likes to blindly rush down and I just wait for him to slip up. This pissed him off so bad, he stopped playing and ranted about how much I "cheat".

If I stood around w/o attacking (waiting for an opening), I was scared of him. If I used the game's mechanics like UOH (when he blocked low) and rushed him, I was cheating. You just couldn't win in his eyes lmao. My friend and I just busted out laughing at him. He eventually threw me off my game though because instead of just listening to his whining, I got into an argument with him. That shit costed me a few matches against him because I lost my focus for awhile after.

I really hope I play him again one day. :bluu:

if you played in the 1991-1995 arcade era. if you were good, you got into it with sore losers. i got in fights with older people all the time cuz they couldnt handle being thrown. and that happened everywhere you went. its not very common anymore at all. its down right rare these days. since to play against players in 99% of the US, you have to know the players to get comp since most people dont have arcades anymore and its at peoples homes. as dangerous as it could be at times in arcades. i kinda miss that flair, pissing people off by kicking their ass, to the point where they wanna harm you in real life. it just let you know you were doing something right in the game lolol

Back in 1990 I played Double Dragon at a Mountain Mike's Pizza (Morgan Hill) and some dude that was like 8 years older than me was player 2 and he kept on fucken punching my guy. I mean come on!!! Maybe 2 or 3 times I can slide it but every 5 seconds I get hit is some BS. So then I got pissed and just did the knee to the face on his character and threw him across the screen. Then he's like, "Oh hohoho...." blah blah blah.... His friend's like laughing. I lost first and just watched while I stood under one of the door frames. When he lost he walked by and shoved my head against one of the sides of the door frame....

Another incident was when I was playing Double Dragon at a Roundtable Pizza (Morgan Hill) in 1989. With one quarter I managed to get to Mission 4 and before the 2 Abobos came out some jackass kid pulled my joystick down so that I would lose both of my lives by falling in the pit.

In 1992, when I was at the arcade @ Eastridge (San Jose) playing CE with Vega some idiot got mad because I did the Izuna Drop all the time. Then his girlfriend or whoever challenged me and her Vega destroyed mine. I left after that match...

Also, in 1992 at a bowling alley in Morgan Hill I played Mortal Kombat when some scrub kids kept on getting pissed about my Sub-Zero freezing them all the time...

Off Topic: One of the funniest WW/CE moments was at that bowling alley too. This guy was pretty good with Dhalsim and pretty much owned everyone there and said something like..."I'm gonna shove my Indian dick in your ass" to his opponent. I just l:rofl:lled. This was also one of the incidents where the infamous coin trick was used

Yea I've seen people get into fights over games in NY. ducvaders post is truth. It mostly happened in the OG era so you don't hear about it, but it has happened several times.

I was playing in the 1991-95 arcade era, and as a little kid, I've been maced before by someone, had a gun pulled to my face because I rushed someone down in mk3, and i've been jumped myself by a bunch of high school kids back in the day (but it was broken up almost immediately, since it was by a school). however i got off better than some other people back in the day.

ive seen people get beat the fuck down over ww/mk2, get stabbed, get thrown through windows of the arcade literally (Kaneda will know what I'm talking about here with the Playland/Broadway Arcade days.) It was really prominent back in the days since there were wayyyy more scrubs that couldnt handle losing.

its not the case anymore, people beef when it comes to games but its more irl related stuff, not so much the game anymore.

in the sf2 days I would get pretty mad, but since everyone was bigger than me, the worst i ever did was turn off my classmates machine when he was tick throwing me to death lol. but he was my friend so id give him back his quarter, but i was pretty heated lol.

I've seen an almost fight break out over me winning a 3S match. The guy was really really big (tall, overweight and had muscle to back it up), he actually moved the machine around in frustration and kept violently moving the close to broken stick, eventually someone I know stood up to him and told him to calm down. They stared down before the people working at the arcade told the guy to get out of arcade.

I just basically stood there watching mostly because the guy was looking to take his frustration out on something, not particularly the guy who beat him. He was something like 30 and threw a huge tantrum. Not paticular on mentioning the people involved but they can speak up if they like, hell the guy who threw the shitfit might read this too.

Neither of us are particularly great at 3S either.

My friend back in the day had a big mouth, and we used to go to this shithole arcade in Burbank, CA where a bunch of mexican and korean gangs used to hang out. Basically my friend was jawing with some random mexican guy while playing X men vs SF and at the end of the match the guy popped my friend in the mouth. My friend then proceeds to go behind me, cause he's a chicken shit and I know how to fight...however I don't care how good of a fighter you are, you can't compete against 50 mexicans (he was part of a gang) with fucking knives. They didn't jump us, because the owner came out started screaming some korean shit and kicked US out. I picked Sub-Zero and did the freeze on him over and over and he got pretty pissed. He started crying and his mom told me to leave....good times.

No, I haven't, because I've only played fighting games in arcades twice, and both times I was there alone (played VF1 and 3 btw). Arcades are practically nonexistant in Finland and have been for a long time. Random machines here and there, mostly driving and light gun games, almost no fighting game sightings to speak of. There was a VF4 ver. A somewhere a few years ago and I saw TTT in 2003 but that's all I know of. The last time I saw a fighting game machine in my town (some Fatal Fury I think) was in 1992 ...

I took two of my boys wit me 2 the gameroom. When we got there he walked into the mall to get sum food so i couldn't fuck wit him. When i saw him comin back i got in his face bout it. He wuz talkin bout he ain't want none but at that point it wuz too late for him. I walked his pussy ass outside and cut him off from runnin into the parkin lot. Two seconds b4 i wuz bout 2 blues da boy my dog said, "man fuck all dat." and he punched him in the face. The first lick sent him into a daze and his chinese food went flyin. The second lick stretched him out in the street. My dog got on top dat fool and pounded on him for a coupla minutes until i ran and pulled him up off of him. We had 2 bust out after that. I took two of my boys wit me 2 the gameroom. When we got there he walked into the mall to get sum food so i couldn't fuck wit him. When i saw him comin back i got in his face bout it. He wuz talkin bout he ain't want none but at that point it wuz too late for him. I walked his pussy ass outside and cut him off from runnin into the parkin lot. Two seconds b4 i wuz bout 2 blues da boy my dog said, "man fuck all dat." and he punched him in the face. The first lick sent him into a daze and his chinese food went flyin. The second lick stretched him out in the street. My dog got on top dat fool and pounded on him for a coupla minutes until i ran and pulled him up off of him. We had 2 bust out after that. I didn't go back to the gameroom til the next day but they said he wuz ko'ed for bout 5-10 minutes in a puddle of his own blood. Mall security wuz lookin 4 me and he threatened to call the police. Nigga wouldn't be around today if he would've made dat mistake. He never even looked my way after that. That wuz prolly the most enjoyable nght of gamin i've ever had.

Well...he sucked....hard. Back in the day I was really good (not now I stink) and I perfected him. He through a huge fit. Pushed me. I started to laugh at him. The kids started to laugh at him....shit everyone was laughing at him. He took a swing at me and I dodge easily. A bunch of people then grabbed him, beat him up a little and threw him outside. The owner said that guy has been a dick for a while now. I used to go to the arcade a lot back then and the owner knew me. Just had another one come to mind. I have this buddy who is the biggest scrub ever at practically everything. He ALWAYS gets pissed off when he loses. He CANNOT handle it. I have no idea what it is about MvC2, but even though I suck at that game, out of all the fighting games I've played MvC2 was the only one that would make people want to jump me or whatnot.

Then again, I've been threatened in similar fashion over games of chess and bridge, so maybe it's just the crazy world we live in. But I use to play Bridge for money so that might be moot.

I've never had anything like that happen with fighting games in arcades...closest thing I've ever had to drama due to fighting games was actually pretty recent. I was workin' at this arcade in my lical mall...its only respectable fighter (out of 2 fighters at all), was MVC1...I was taking a break and beasted this one dude...he wanted his money back because I beat him, and he never came back to that arcade again...and no, I did not return his money.

...besides...all the video game violence I've been privy to, was connected to DDR, of all things (it was like a nerds version of Beat Street, I swear...)

Actually, I remember once waaay back when I was first getting into GG, my friend kept using Justice. It was me and him and another of my friends in the basement playing for like 2 hours, this bastard kept picking Justice and cheesing the shit out of me(this is good ole GGXX)

After his like tenth win, I just tossed the controller down and hopped up and started choking the shit out of him. Then my other friend gets up and punches me in the face like "what the fuck are you doin nigga" and I let go.

After that I realized how much of a bitch I acted like, and nowadays its reeeeeaaaaaaaally hard for me to get angry at fighting games anymore.

I still talk shit constantly though :D. I back things up with money though, not violence.

In Mexico, this dude Quique (a friend of my half-brother's) used to play KOF 94 all the time. We'd never really beat him because he had played SF before and we had no idea what the fuck to do, but when we eventually did start beating him, he'd always either try to turn off the machine on us, or he just would. This became pretty prominent in '96 when he couldn't stop shit like Iori and he'd shut that shit down in a rage of scrubdom.

we have a arcade downtown here with really NOTHING but oldschool games, and suprisingly dispite having third strike, alpha3 and super turbo. hyperfighting is by far the most popular game there. most of the players are kinda mid level to scrubby though so when you play they get REALLY pissed at throws...espessially throws out of block stun. many many times I've had to chill on my usual gameplan because the guy is getting too pissed off.

in many ways its lame. but...man do i love it. its so nostalgic when u get that feeling the guy next to you is gonna punch you because you just kicked his ass.....to get that feeling in modern times, its just beautiful *tear*

back when i used to play xmvsf in junior high the only way u can touch the arcade was if u had skills or if u where down with a crew. Shit was crazy back then. If u where a newcomer and beat a arcade "favorite" u had better "hope u had your nike's bro". Niggas on my block used to be spazzing out in the pizza stores and barbershops in bk that they had to remove every arcade system that was along cortelyou rd. Man it was wild back in the day, people couldnt stand to lose, especially in a big crowd. I remember one time i went on a small 6 game winning streak against this guy in xmvsf and he was on some shit. dude was breathing all heavy and shit like he wanted to knock me out. luckily that was when i used to play football in junior high so i was sort of a weight lifting junkie. I dont know wat he wouldve done if i was a little dude.
