Pretty much. Parries have long enough recovery you can reaction punish them. Instead of pickable supers and such, you just can stock up to 3 bars ... 1 bar for an EX attack, 3 bars for an Overdrive.

Game is pretty simple to pick up but that's part of the fun.

BTW, is there a way to cancel the auto-counter when parrying melee attacks? I know you can cancel it with another parry and all, but can you cancel it with anything else?

The only really good thing he has is air b into 214a mixup or jump back 214c mixup, and good pokes. He can't reversal without meter, and of course since he has to go straight into super, it'll always be unsafe and take meter, and of course can be air blocked and punished. Maybe Sai only seems good because the character you are using is easily below even him.

I have a question about tiers.

I use Kanae, and my friend uses Akatsuki. We doesn't understand why people say Kanae is lower in the game, and why Akatsuki is like, considered top?

Kanae has the crazy good throws into crazy damage into insanely good wakeup, can combo out of parry into 22C, good range with standing C, 6C is deadly, 2C is pretty safe, etc. Three bar super only requires one bar of risk if you miss it, and it does a ton of damage.

Akatsuki didn't seem to be able to handle it. He DPs me, he gets a bit of life. I bait his DP, and its free throw into wakeups, or i parry into free 22C. His fireball is super punishable in the air, and doesnt seem that special. His super fireball is SUPER easy to parry. You can throw him out of his overhead, his 6B or whatever that launcher move is, is REALLY unsafe. So i'd like to see why people say that and what i'm missing, cause if Kanae is that bad and Akatsuki is that good, then why does it seem like she doesn't have a problem dealing with him?

Keep in mind my play time is limited, which is why im not sure.

Well none of that stuff makes aka good.

2b x 214a or other various safe poke strings into pressure.

It doesn't matter that 6c is punishable, it should only be used to punish confirmed whiffs or in a combo.

If he has a stock, you have to make his dp whiff or parry it to punish it, since he can cancel into air fireball super low to the ground.

Everything Kanae does depends on guessing right. Other than generally good pokes (5b) and 6c pressure, every mixup she can do gets her punished if she guesses wrong. Parry whiff = punish. Counter whiff = punish. Air grab upon landing = punish. Go for dash grab and they hit buttons = punished. She basically has to force 6c on them, which is an awesome move, but it's the only safe thing she has to get great damage.

For Aka, his j.B has a pretty big hitbox making it an ideal crossup. And also, his combos put you into the corner really fast which end in a knockdown or tech punish scenario.

I don't know if it's just me but it's really easy to parry almost EVERYTHING in this game granted that you parry the first hit of the attack because the timing is really lenient.

It really blows how she can't cancel her B attacks. Anti-air 2B into 22C would have been so good. I mean look at that move, it's just asking to be cancellable. Maybe in a future update. x_X

Kanae

The first thing I did after I played the beta version of this game was to find a character I was going to use in the naim game, so I made my way to the Subtle Style website and looked at the default rostar for the game...Kanae was immediately the character I wanted to pick (I want to try ouy Mycale also). She looked interesting and once I found out that she was a grab character, it made things even better because I like female grappler characters :P


Anyway, I tried her out in the full version of the game the other day...friends of mine were having not much luck with the character (they like grappler characters) and when I got to use her, I didn't have too much luck either - but I gave her a bit of time and found that she can be pretty ruthless, but it requires a lot of guesswork. It seemed as though the people behind the game made her specifically to counter and grab, while giving her a couple of good normal attacks to play with. She can't cancel many of her normal attacks, meaning she can't do any elaborate combos found on other characters. Luckily for Kanae, she has a bit of speed on her, so she won't suffer from the same fate as slow-ass grappler characters like Potemkin and Zangief - she just has epic character problems like existing normal characters because she doesn't have many normal tools to gain an edge outside of her speed.

Let's see now...

Normal attacks

-5A- I guess this is good as a standard anti-air and/or interupt like many standing jabs are. But just like most standing jabs, it misses crouching opponents. Not to be used (much) in pressure situation, better off using 2A. Cancellable into: 2A, 5B, 2B, 3C, 6C and any special attack....might've missed one here.

-5B- Straight-forward kick to the head, non-cancellable which sucks because I think this move is pretty good.

-5C- Swift kick that knocks down. Has more range than her 5B even though it doesn't seem like it. Easily her best standing normal as it knocks down and allows you to set-up nicely. In the corner you get 2C guaranteed before the tech. Cannot cancel into anything on hit.

-2A- I think this would be her main combo starter - and perhaps her best quick poke because it's cancellable into everything 5A is cancellable into. Has a bit of range and recovers quickly.

-2B- AA punch - non-cancellable. This move alone could've been something special, but seen as you can't cancel from it at all it's a move you wouldn't think to do immediately in a situation that needs addressing. I'm thinking it may go under things? I'll most likely play with the usage of this move next time I get to play.

-2C- Sweep. Goes under attacks - doesn't have as much range as I thought it did. Useful as you'll be needing those knockdowns and in a situation where your oponent lies down, you can hit them with it.

-3C- Commando roll. Just like Millia's roll in Guilty Gear you can get hit below the knee area. Not usless, it's pretty hard to apply...she's rolls for a while.Luckily for her, she recovers instantly from the roll.I'll play around with this more too.

-6C- Palm attack, cancellable into most normals, though 6C -> 5C doesn't connect (?). Much better than 2A in terms of options, fast recovery, great on wake-up and when it hits, you can square some extra hits before doing a standard combo...like tap tap grab =p If used with 2A, grab and counter holds then I feel the can be a problem for many when she eventually gets into the opponent. I love this move <3

-j.A- Jumping punch used to match someone in the air. Hit's a bit too high up to be really useful.

-up j.A- Like j.A - same applies.

-j.B- Jumping kick, comes in at a nice angle - I'd say this would be a pretty good safe jump-in, provided safe jumps exist in this game :P

-up j.B- Like j.B - same applies - though you're better off using up j. C.

-j.C- A more sharp jumping kick, governs less range than I first thought though it does have a bit of range. To be used instead of j.B if you're further out.

-up j.C- Jumping version of 5C. Knocks down, can combo in corner (shown in that combo vid).

-j.2C- SPLASH. Perhaps one of her best attacks from the air? Just like most grappler splashes, it crosses up too. Unlike grappler plashes though, it knocks down. You get good options here...plus it's safe on block, so there's no need to worry about retaliation. Really useful.

Special Attacks

-236A_B_C- Command grab. The strength of the button determines the distance of the grab (travelling distance). On its own it doesn't do much damage, but if you add her air grab after the toss, the damage doubles. If you have super bar, then you can use super air grab instead, which is cool. Grab is integral to her game and the range isn't TOO bad. Plus you get left near the opponent when you finish with the air grab or super air grab, what more do you want? :P

-214A_B_C- Counter hold - A for jump-in's, B for high/mid attacks and C for lows. I thought this was a bit backwards, but whatever! The counter holds are also integral to her game and depending on the attack, you get different holds - her low counter hold is probably her best because you can follow up with her super air grab. This is pretty good for her as it means that your opponent may want to do a slower attack against you in some situations, meaning you get to set up 2A -> 6C better. Very useful.

-22A_B_C- Air grab. Button pressed determines forward distance travelled. Handy, can be very situational (depends on how you want to use it). Always to be used after commanc grab. I assume these work after reflected moves as super grabs connect in the very same situation. Good for crossing the distance afetr sweep and 5C (you recover slightly before your opponent can) ... leaves ou right in front of your opponent too. Can't use it like that normally as it's got landing recovery.

Super Attacks

-236B+C- Super grab. It's a good thing that you can combointo grabs in this game, otherwise Kanae would eb outright crap. Super by itself does moderate damage, but you can extand on the super with super air grab. If you have a stock, don't see why you wouldn't use it. Decent range.

-214B+C- Super counter hold. Can't do anything afterwards from what I could tell, so I so wouldn't really waste a stock on it unless you were going to kill someone with it. You're probably better off trying to get super air grab from a normal counter hold or reflection. Looks nice though.

-22B+C- Super air grab. My personal favourite special she has because she knees the opponent into the corner, or near to it. Looks awesome :) Very useful, always worth investing in and again, does moderate damage but when you team it with a super beforehand or normal grab, the damage si noticably different. Cannot do Lv3 from this version though (?).

Lv3 Attacks

-22B+C- From super grab. Instead of surfing on the opponent, she just creates a small crater instead. I actually don't know if it's worth doing. She has so many options when it comes to super though, so if you feel like being a bit flash, go ahead and use it.

-A+B+C- Extension from the previous move, she jumps up and stomps on the opponent. All 3 supers combined means the damage is huge and you're left right on top of your opponent too! :D

Throws

-4_6A+B- Position change. Does a small portion of damage and even has range! You can mix up from here nicely too. Can't combo into it though.

-A+B+C- A toss to the ground. Nothing to special, justa normal grab! Left close.

-A+C- Provokes the opponent, animation can be cancelled halfway through, cannot cancel into it (?)

I don't think I'll be using any other character in this game for a while. She doesn't have much but I do like how she works...as well as looks =p

yo. has anyone had any success running this game on linux using wine or something similar? i've installed it and my friend sent me his config.cfg (because i couldn't get the config.exe to run) but still it won't run. it just throws up an error message with some gibberish in it and something about the file bgm.pak. has anyone had any similar problems and if you have had them, have you solved them?

Yea but they're pretty weak, you press a button to parry (instead of forward like in 3s) and the timing is really, really lenient. Not saying that's entirely a bad thing, though.

I had this problem in every doujin game I played with my 360 controller. Why it seems to be like this for japanese games I have no clue.

But it isn't a problem isn't anything you did. It is the fact that those games just don't work as right with 360 pads.

Use a program called Xpadder. You can map your D-Pad to buttons on your keyboard, like uparrow/downarrow/etc.

you can actually get fucked up for techrolling, its really hard to block certain things during it and you are automatically at disadvantage ( remember that Reflector has startup frames ), if you take the normal fall sometimes you can see okizeme setups

Sai off of a teched throw can do 236B to get right on top of you on the frame you recover and go for another throw
Fritz can 236B teleport behind you on the frame you recover and get an almost-free throw ( Akatsuki can DP but he has to buffer it the reverse way, Soldat has to flash kick )
Kanae can whiff her 6C ( Chun back and fierce ) into A ver. command grab
Wei can do crossup B and throw if its blocked or go into shoulder charge combo

i think different characters might recover at different speeds but i have no way of testing it =(
techrolling when knocked down into the corner is also a no-no, you can get crossed up really bad

all i know is that akatsuki and the e soldat series are clones of the main boss. akatsuki is a special model, while e soldat is the mass production model. also, sai is basically a gangster who is fighting to gain information that he can sell.

She is one of the coolest character designs I've seen in a long time.

Two questions about her:

1) I saw a great match where at the end she was KO'd but had a Gill like ressurection (which also seemed to force the opponent to parry) to recover and win the match. What the hell is that about?

2) When she does her fast high knee move... is there a panty shot involved? The resolution doesnt seem high enough for me to know for sure but jeez a panty shot from a nun character would rule the ROOST

She IS cool, but she really has no way to do big damage. She has cool keepaway with her guns, but with the stupid parry system, it really dosen't matter. You get close to her and she can't get you off, she's done.

Also to add
b+B, b+C, b+B, f+C does around 2500 dmg on akatsuki if i remeber correctly. Not to shabby imo considering how much damage scaling kills most combos by soldat, sai and murakumo. And i see E.Soldat as strictly mid tier due to to his damage scaling.

Anyway i couldnt get more combos for my vid so to stop myself from doing filler combos i just went ahead and finished it with another music track that was shorter. Lost all sync but i just want it finished, i´ll upload it later. At least the framerate is 110% better this time lol.

So it didnt turned out the way i wanted it but i hope you can find something useful in it.

So i deleted the original, played BK for a pretty long time till it got more popular, after which i was able to get my hands on a torrent of the full version... btw i've been checking in on this thread, and i made an account on shoryuken 'cause i decided to post...

anyways, i was wondering if anybody here has allocated a list of all/most or maybe even some of the unlockables? So far within 3 days of getting the full game, i've unlocked Time Attack Mode, Survival Mode, and Theatre mode... i've seen videos with some sort of mode that involves killing a die (??) i've tried playing survival and time attack but im pretty sure you cant unlock anything by playing those modes... anyways, i would say im pretty damn good myself but i havent seen Akatsuki BK Standards yet... i'd really really like to play one of you veterans (Ex. Master Chibi =P)

Sorry for the long ass post though =P

That being said I think it's down right moronic to save meter with her. Resurrection isn't worth it because they can fucking shield / parry that too. The parry timing kills her game too.not to say its worth it per say but even if they parry out how many people can punish it? i know of 2 currently

It's not a matter of punishing it, it's that you can easily just shield / parry her resurrection and get meter for it. She gets like 15% of her life back and you get meter for it? No thanks.

btw, in my opinion: Blitztank is the most pointless, retarded character in the game. He is a HUMONGOUS target, you wouldnt believe the combos you can pull on him, he just completely ruins any tag match, and he's downright ugly.

My main problem with your video is very few of the combos were that interesting, many of them (marilyn especially) were just repeats of combos we've seen done, or shorter versions of combos people have done. The only one that was really interesting to me was the Anonym combo where the person actually bounced out of the corner and I thought the double two hit anonym combo was pretty cool in a silly sort of way, And the air throw segments get props. But other than that I don't really think that there was much good "new" content in the video, also I agree with many of the video editing points that Xeno put up in the other thread, especially cutting the clips at the right time, it's not cool to see things like when mycale threw a fireball at the end that didn't combo or That yakuza guy whose name I forget getting kicked after his combo by soldat. Overall it's a decent video for a game whose combo engine is just sort of limited so you have to think a lot harder about finding new content.

Sorry if that sounded overly mean I didn't mean it too.... I still think this vid is leaps above your first one. Also if you are gonna make a third one, I'd look into things like using fireballs for interupts in combos or something like that...
