View Full Version : General Street Fighter Question

I'm relatively new to Street Fighter. I understand how to use the moves for characters like Ryu and Ken, but I'm having trouble getting characters like Charlie, Guile, Blanka, and Vega to work well for me. My question is this: How are you supposed to do charge moves like Somersault kick and Blanka's rolling attack? I can only get them to work sometimes and it seems more like luck than anything when they do. Is there a way to do them so they get more frequent? Please help.

By the way, I play Alpha 3 on the playstation.

(Sorry if this is the wrong board. I figured I'd get a faster answer if I posted here.)

You have to hold back for a short amount of time, like 2 seconds maybe.

The best way to do this is charging down and back so you can choose between most character's charge down and charge back attacks on the fly.

This all depends on the situation though, just try charging back longer maybe.

It just seems like I'm going about doing it wrong. The character will either move forward or punch and kick before they'll sonic boom or roll. Do you really only have a split second to do this shit? It seems like it would be too much of a pain in the ass to pull these moves out in arcade mode.

Hold db, in that way you'll be charging for both Sonic Boom and Somersault Kick. After you've charged db, f+P for the SB, u+K for the SK. You got to do it fast, if you're getting a jump while doing the SK or you walk forward/get a punch while doing the SB, you're doing the motion too slow. Also, you can charge while doing something else (eg: charging during a jump-in, charging while poking with low moves, etc).

Just hold either down or back for two seconds, then press forward and the attack button at the same time...

You have to press forward rather quickly. In street fighter 2 there's not a lot of leniency for inputs.

Wow...this feels like 1991 all over again.

But yeah, questions already answered....

I bet it's easier with an arcade stick.

It'd make a lot more sense to me if you held back or down as well as punch or kick and then pushed forward or up to release the move.

It works just not that well. Thanks for the input. I just wish there was some way I could get the timing down.

Yeah, make sure you are pressing forward and the attack button at the exact same time. it takes practice, but once you have it you are good for life.

Thanks again.

Does anybody know a website with good move lists? I don't have an instruction book. I remember seeing one a long time ago that had pictures with the notation but I can't remember where it was.

Concur.

Dude... if you can't get this shit down within one sitting of playing the damn game, then you probably shouldn't be playing SF or any other fighters for that matter. Seriously, it should come naturally and be second nature to you, like breathing!

Actually, I think the toward input has to occur right before the button input in order for the move to come out. You don't really have to concentrate so hard on doing the toward input and button "at the same time", but you can't be slow about it, either.

And yes, much easier on a stick.
