Greetings.

Due to a twist of fate and other such tomfoolery, I may end up with an additional Atomiswave cabinet. (Cabinet only, not GG:AC :sad: )
There were some damage issues and such (which I am currently taking care of the best I can) with my current cabinet, so I have been offered a second cabinet for a reduced price. (Very reduced in fact.)

Now, I love games of the arcade genre as much as anyone, but I really don't think I have a use for dual Atomiswave SD cabinets. (Unless I wanted to put them back to back, which would rock but I just don't have the space.)

My questions is, anyone over at UIUC interested in purchasing an Atomiswave cabinet from me potentially? I admit, it is not a cheap cabinet, however on the bright side, I could likely personally deliver it to anyone who wanted it when I come down on the weekends. (This saves you $300+ in shipping costs.)

Catch is it would be down a control panel for the time, however you can make your own or get one from Australia as far as I know. :sweat:
I know someone who is pretty handy with metal work, maybe that will be an option.

Can't confirm any of this just yet, as I really don't know what I'm doing yet. For now I just want to see if there is any interest in your end.

I'd mention this in classifieds, however I would much rather sell to people I actually know instead.

so yea, came down to uiuc yesterday. first time i went to the bars there. i went to a place called Joes. we arrived there at 12am and stayed till close (2am). all bars close that early? anyways, that placed was fucking packed and basically a sausage fest. there was barely any asian chicks too. what bars do you recommended if i go down to uiuc again? at least the drinks were cheap.

hey this is random but my friend from ny decided to fly into town all of sudden, and i also got a birthday to attend to tomorrow night. so i probably won't be able to do stuff tomorrow night. just hang out during the day.

To show you that I haven't read any forum for a while now;
but after this crazy week-end ( 6 hours drive between chicago, champaign and my home-town) I had a lot of fun and I don't regret going there ( even if I spent a lot of money on gas, damn that eclipse...lol)

First of all the thing that impressed me the most was how Jerry had awakened the beast inside of him ( like the nine tails demon or something... crazy) during the team tournament... That was crazy, so good shit Jerry. there was a lot of fun in general so I was really happy.

Second of all is the fact that I got to see Juicy G impress me again with the way he plays Order Sol and Sol ( I still have so much to learn...)

Third of all, I got to hang out and talk with the guys from chicago. That was a lot of fun because this time we talked a little bit more then usual, especially with that one scene where AFRICA owned, and the whole hang shaking thing..... Good shit, I think I got everybody's attention now...

And last but not least, I would like to thank you again Andy for having us over again. and for taping the tournament, good shit everybody who went.

let me know how the Third strike tournament went.

i was just thinking about the club tournaments we have been having. what if we held a game series for smash?

winners of each tournament can not win another tournament in the series. final 8 advance into a finalists bracket at the end of the series. we can inspire more people to play, not just the hardcore gamers but also more casual players. this also eliminates the fact that people keep feeling they are getting dwarfed by previous champs, such as the twins on their winning streak.

we technically have no cause to exclude any players, especially not for constantly winning. though the streaks do push away not as serious players. at least with this, we aren't really excluding them from the whole event, but also giving other people a chance in tournaments within the series.

even if the twins win the finalist game, each individual tournament brings in more players.

this will cover the rest of smash for the semester. I also think we should do it for other games as well, to run something along side with smash.

about the AASHO tournament:


apparently the AASHO people weren't completely satisfied.

i probably already mentioned a lot of this, but i was just talking to AASHO about it and certain things were reiterated.

i think there was shoddy communication between SCFG and AASHO. neither club knew what was going on, and had different images of what was going to happen. Like chris, even you didn't know what games we ended up playing.

we should also advertise this a lot better, especially to the right venues. like every frikking fob on campus (and there are a lot of fobs), has heard of, played, or still plays King of Fighters, or one of the King of Fighters.

why is it they don't play with us? cuz they honestly dont care about groups that are outside of their comfort zone of other fob groups. that doesn't mean they won't go to a King of Fighters tournament as long as they hear about it.

why do u think steve doesn't quite play with us all the time? he is involved with more comfortable organizations, but that doesn't mean he won't play if he hears about a tournament.

only thing that saved this event was the fact that there is a strong base of devote smash players that populated most of the event.

Regarding AASHO event:

First of all, there was not a lot of communication between groups in organizing this event, and that is something that will have to be improved upon. However, the issue of the lack of the target audience not coming to this event (asian-americans) is solely the problem of AASHO. SoComFG was not delegated the responsibility of marketing and publicity. All our responsibilities included were providing the equipment (games, ps2s), organizing the event, which I admit was done poorly, and running the tournaments. Our group even announced the event on our website. However, AASHO was the group to publicize the event.

Personally, I never got this newsletter from them saying there would be a Smash tournament. But if they want to market a Smash tournament, they had better know who they really are looking at in the audience they are attracting. I had made it clear to the organization that KOF would be the second tournament we would run, despite the fact that we did not run it that evening.

Even then, when the event came, AASHO did not deliver on its promises we had earlier planned. First, they only had prize money available for the Smash tournament. Now considering the kind of audience they were trying to attract, and the game we were to hold for them, don't you think they should have secured the prize money for KOF, too? That makes no sense. And second of all, while we're talking about money, the prize money itself was not as had been planned, either. From the actual plans for the event AASHO had sent to SCFG:

The prizes will be as follows for both tournaments:
First place: $100
Second place: $60
Third place: $40
Cash Value / Gift Certificates

Jason's team got 3rd in Smash. They won $5.

All in all, I would say that despite some weak communication, SCFG delivered on their end of the bargain, and AASHO did not.

For my arcade stick, I think, the button are getting messed up, I switched the wire but I noticed after a while that R1 was still dropping input time to time, about 5% of the time. so I don't know if I should get new button or not; and I have also noticed that my L2 button gets stuck from time to time, so maybe it is just something inside the stick that has more and that I need to refix or something.

Any advice on what I should do, please let me know.

hey guys, i know that i have about zero say in anything in the club, seeing as i'm not, well anything, but i just wanted to voice my opinion on some things:

first off, chris i think it's good that you stepped up when others wouldn't to assume the role of president. it takes alot of character to take charge of anything, be it large or small. just work a bit on your communication; there are others here to help you with your endeavors, so you don't have to feel like you're carrying all of the weight by yourself. there's no shame in asking for help. as far as advertising for events goes, that ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE a group effort. uchiphop holds an annual bboy battle (IL Breaks) which is particularly high-key in the bboy culture, but even that requires ALL of us to pool our resources and get it spread and known. whoever the secretary of the group is should start having things like this thought out in advance. even though you may not know exactly when each tourney is going to be held, you know that they are, in fact, held, and quite regularly at that. just be ready for them; have ideas for flyers and things before the day of, you know? it's alot easier to run in on a pop-fly than out, if you know what i mean. by the way, never once have any of you guys asked for my help with anything. i have lived here my whole life, and know so many people it's not even funny. need flyers? hell, there's a girl i breakdance with whose a graphic design major!!! she does all of uchiphop's flyers, and they're always GREAT. all that i'm saying is that the moment you all decided to start taking money from the university for your group you became a team. you need to make sure at all times that you understand and help each other. if not, then this club ends when you all leave and graduate. i personally think that'd be a shame; you guys have started a great thing, just make sure that your hearts and thoughts are in the right place. in the end, however, you as individuals all decide your own level of involvement...no one else, YOU. anyway, that's all i got. the neglector's spoken...

Any advice on what I should do, please let me know.What kind of stick is it? If it's a T5, those are actually a huge pain in the ass to fix because the contacts on the microswitches are directly soldered to the PCB. If you're using a Real Arcade Pro or a custom stick though those are generally easy to mod.

I know how this is going to sound but I worked at an arcade for a couple of years and generally the best fix we had for buttons that are physically sticking is to spray the area in between the button and the bezel with Windex and mash the shit out of it. I'd make sure the stick is unplugged if you try that, and give it some time to dry -- we always did it while the cabinets were running so I don't think there's much risk, but the way arcade control panels are laid out you aren't going to have Windex dripping on to the PCB, which might actually happen with a home stick.

edit: Nevermind, I just saw you were talking about messing with the wires so it can't be a T5. It sounds to me like the microswitch in the R1 button is going bad if you rewired it, the other possibilities are a cold solder joint -- but it's unlikely since you already messed with the wiring? -- and a problem with the PCB. I'd swap the button out if it's Japanese, if it's American maybe just get a new cherry switch.

It a HRAP 2, he did the same thing I did when my cord broke: steal the cord from a T5 and plug it into the HRAP.

It could be a broken microswitch on that button. Try switching that button out with like... your taunt button, and see if that helps.

No one ever accused Stephane of being subtle, but he does have a point, although he didn't put it in very kind terms.

Ignoring for a second that I had 3 business characters before I settled on Ky, I was getting really tired of losing with Ky in #R (turns out that was mostly because 1) I sucked, and 2) Aaron played Millia, who was like super-broken against Ky in #R). So then I went through a period where I played several other characters as my "business", such as Jam, Zappa, and Robo-Ky. Although I eventually went back to Ky closer to the end of #R, playing other characters and literally NEVER playing Ky gave me a lot of perspective.

Please, consider either a) dropping Axl until AC, b) dropping Axl altogether, or c) or playing another character 50% of the time. You won't win a lot at first (I remember Andrew beating the shit out of my Jam a whole lot), but it's still a lot more fun because you're learning new things with another character. You'll also learn a lot more about the game in general because there are things that are much easier to learn with other characters. Playing Jam helped me learn to attack without a fireball covering me, playing Zappa helped me learn better defense and how to zone, and learning Johnny, I-No, and Eddie really helped my execution.

Also, if you have questions about how to beat something or how to get around something, ask me in a tone that doesn't imply "this is fucking bullshit" and then actually listen when I try to tell you what to do. It's frustrating when I'm trying to show you something and you're dead-set on telling me that I'm full of shit and that the game is broken.

I know exactly what you mean about playing other characters as a main for a while then switching back to your original. Thats what i did in 3s. During 2I, my main was Akuma and hes the first person i learned anything with. Of course that was when i was real bad at most any fighter. From when i got 3s, then (sadly) started playing it online a lot i went through nearly 5 mains tell i settled back down to Dudley. Started with Ryu, switched to Oro, switched to Makoto, switched to Q, learned dudley, decided i wanted to play Hugo, went back to Dudley. Although it was really tough to get wins with all the learning, it was worth it now that im fairly competent in 3s now.

also, if you hate a character the best thing to do is to just learn the character you hate. that way you'll end up loving them (and you can learn easy by just copying everyone else and stealing strats). it has the added bonus of letting you learn the in's and out's of that char, so you know how to defend against their stuff better, etc.

OK, I know FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that you will NEVER EVER get Tilt to do ANYTHING you want. Shit, even if there was a miracle and Tilt DID get some good games, they would be in shitty cabinets that aren't ever fixed, and I wouldn't even want to play there anyway.

The only place that would make sense to put fighting game cabinets would be in the union where they get some traffic, but there's no way they'll be doing that either.

You're just getting your hopes up. The only arcades that take input from the community are small, privately-owned arcades. Tilt managers will make promises, but they won't do shit.

You guys missed the glory days of Space Port. It was on green street between Wright and 6th, and got tons and tons of student traffic, and also led to quite a few guys dropping out of school too. While the Union had a shitload of machines during the same time period, their controls were almost always worse, so only scrubs played there. By the time Spaceport went belly-up, someone had convinced the Union to get their act together; they had the latest games and would actually fix the controls of machines that actually got played a lot (someone finally told them that the reason why other games didn't break as often was because no one ever played them...) Unfortunately, the SF series was losing a little steam (beginning of Alpha series) and the Union got rid of their arcade room and 90% of their cabinets when they remodelled the basement. It's pretty lame how there are now craploads of DDR machines and only one split screen, flat, lag-filled cabinet to play fighting games with a bazillion other games on only one cabinet.

I guess if I had an opinion, not that it would matter to anyone important, I would recommend giving up on Tilt (they must be selling drugs to stay in business anyway) and try to get the Union to put in a cabinet with a big name like you guys were talking about: 3s, some Vs game, or even *cough* ST... At least the Union is close to a lot of people, which might be convenient for you guys, plus it would attract new players as well, and you might even run a small and shitty tournament on one cab, if they university would even allow it. More importantly would be the central location and the ability to attract new and existing players...

Sorry I've sort of dropped off the face of the Earth, but my schedule has been lame and family life has been getting crazier too. Careful who you make babies with... It sucked that I couldn't make Midwest, but is everyone planning on going to the Northbrook part of the Evo tournament this summer?

Its a pretty damn tough school to get into. It is in the top 5 engineering schools in the nation. There is also Parkland Cpllege here which seems like a good place as well.

ok guys, thanks for letting me know. as of right now, im not sure if ill be driving separately from the rest of chicago (either we all fit in a passenger van or we have a van plus the jeep that im driving). that will affect whether or not there is a tv and games along the way. hopefully by the end of tomorrow we'll know whats going on exactly.

in any case, 11 is plenty early. i dont see anybody getting down to uiuc until 3pm at the earliest.

The only 3S cabinet I know of in Champaign is owned by Volition above Jim Gould's Steakhouse. But yeah, unless you plan on getting a job there, good luck playing on it.

The Mook is all in Japanese, but you can figure out frame data, move damage, etc. If a certain SOMEONE were still here, we'd know EVERYTHING.
