Oh my...so they are indeed looking at making a new Mortal Kombat. I guess MK Armageddon wasn't enough apprently and they want this one to look Gears of Wars esque.

According to the article they are "starting from scratch."

Does this mean they should go 2d or 3d? What do you UMK3 fans think about this one? I personally find it funny that Mortal Kombat can count to 8 but Street Fighter can't count to 4. :rofl:

It'll be another shit-fest. Guaranteed. They want to make it look like GoW, which is in turn saying they need the Unreal engine to do it, and could turn into the only game in the world that makes the Unreal engine look bad.

If they're "starting from scratch", it just means they'll make a new storyline and new batch of shitty looking characters. God knows they won't take the time to test anything, learn anything, or even try to make their shit work.

God knows that someone like me who works at MKO would at least try to be supportive, but I can't do that anymore after the last two games. If they proved me wrong in any aspect, I'd retract everything I say. I just have no faith whatsoever they'll get anything right this time.

You can just have the engine render 3-D models and keep the gameplay on a 2-D plane. Something like Killer Instinct.

I haven't played MKA either, and I don't care to. I've seen enough videos of everything broken in that game. I also didn't play Shaolin Monks, but since an outside company made that one, it's naturally better. You can instantly tell the MK team didn't make it.

the damn air kombat ( 1,1,2,1,1,3, cs cancel 4 is too broken and makes everyone have ROM infs ), certain people's stupid infinites ( Moloch 1,1, up+3 xN ), and free throws and bullshit still being in the game even with the weak addition of wakeup options ( poorly implemented ones ) completely turned me off.

I dunno, I guess it's a good sign that EVERYTHING about the horrid last gen MK's has been scrapped, and that the convoluted almost un-MK like story has been wrapped up in favor of a new one, but still Boon IS in charge (it's clear Tobias was the brains behind the good ideas in past games). But hey you never know...maybe they could just steal ALL their ideas from games who do the genre justice and toss regular fatalities back in, I guess then it would be decent?

Eh when your selling as well as Mortal Kombat games still tend to sell you don't get great motivation to switch up the formula all that much.

The games play stiff now, but I must say I've always liked the characters, the world, and the extras, no matter how lame, mostly because most fighting games consider unlocking one or two characters enough extras.

So yeah, not the greatest fighter by any stretch of the imagination, but I'll probably peek in when 8 comes out to see what it's like.

Ed Boon has very little motivation to actually create a real fighting engine. MK sells like hotcakes almost every time. That's the state of the fighting genre right now. So sad.
