You post on SRK, so you KNOW you're the greatest, right? You beat some people at some casual games of your fighter of choice (non-tournament) and you're like "Get the next chump up here," then the unthinkable happens...
You get your ass kicked
I'm not talking about losing to someone who's better than you, I'm talkin about getting your ass whooped so bad, someone who was watching hands your ass back to you and says "That's yours."
How do you feel?

Happens with my brother occasionally in 3rd Strike. He's a parry machine, to the point that I no longer use Dudley, as he's rendered normal and ex machine guns USELESS regardless when I spring them on him.
It's not a good feeling. Going down six in a row, when you KNOW you're more than competent at the game is disheartening. But at the same time, it inspires you to go back and improve certain strategies and throw out others alltogether. It's the way of the fighting gamer.

I don't like it, nobody does, but I do like the learning that comes from getting destroyed by a much better player.
PS I actually have ice-skated uphill. One time in the mountains it snowed a lot, and then immediately after there was a freezing rain all night, and then in the morning the sun was super bright, so basically it resulted in thick frozen ice all over the place. It was fun actually skating uphill, but pretty dangerous going back down hehe.

Depends on what kinda player the guy was. Usually I try to learn what I could/could've done diffrent or changed n stuff like that.

Everyone is bound to lose to someone better. It's only a matter of time and when that happens you wanna learn more from that person. It happens to top players as well. Nothing better than a learning experience.

I put a poll up. I've felt all of these before, but now I guess I would be glad since its been so long since ive been whopped. I got beaten so badly when mvc2 came out that i wanted to erase everyone's short-term memory of what they saw.

sounds like someone's in the denial category
i am that one dude who plays against him repeatedly for like 20 matches straight before giving anyone else a chance
i get really stubborn when i start losing constantly in the sense that i want to keep playing until i learn something that's not "i suck"

Everybody loses from time to time. It happens, deal with it. Like all things in life, in gaming you have to be able to handle losing before you can start winning.
Being frustrated or upset over a loss, accomplishes nothing, and is counterproductive towards IMPROVING your game.
The only guys I see getting pissed and whining when they lose, are noobs who don't know how to handle taking a loss.

yeah depends on the player. But rather good or not I never enjoy losing to some faggot scrub Chun/Ken/Yun when I USED to play 3S.
At the moment I dont mind too much losing at XI or NGBC to a friend of mine who is def. good at both titles

seriously, if there was no one better, what would you want to play for?
honestly, im glad there is always someone better, another plateau/detail to analyze, etc.
as wierd as it sounds, a loss where you learn something is more fun than an empty win.

I agree. When a noob steps up to the machine, and i KNOW he has no real idea of what to do, I kinda feel bad beating him.
It is a shallow win and just feels empty. I'd rather play a formidable opponent and lose, at least then I was challenged and might have learned something from it.

losing is actually a good thing. that way you can learn from your mistakes. gives you a chance to up your game and learn what's good and what's not good and when you win it feels pretty satisfying. at least that's how i look at it. i'm not a sore loser like some people are.
i'll admit tho, when my execution isn't at it's best i get kinda upset with myself. but that rarely happens.

I normally don't have trouble accepting a loss. The only exceptions are when:
- I miss something that could've won the match for me.
- I lose to somebody who's really good but acts like a dick.
I find it hard to learn under these circumstances. If it's the former, I tend to slam my fist on the board and cuss out in disbelief. I know I shouldn't, but if the suspense starts building up and I miss something, it's hard not to. If it's the latter, I just stop playing and walk out feeling bitter towards the other guy for shit talking.

When I lose, I TALK a lot like the first one, cos that's just in my personality.
But honestly? Losing is great. Don't get me wrong - winning is great, too; however, you need something to aspire to. You really need someone to force you to get better, and when you or someone you play just gets mad and doesn't try and improve themselves, you just plateau.

I think the thread starter explicitly says he's not talking about when you lose to someone you know is better than you.
Like when I play MvC1 at the swap meet, occasionally one of the Easy Mode beaners pulls off a win. Granted, it's usually when I'm playing something like Orange Hulk and Lilith, but the way they prance around and do their Mexican hat dance makes me mad enough to say "fuck it" and walk all over them with Strider/WM next match.

i dont like losing to someone because either something random happened or I miss a combo i usually land. that kind of irks me. if that happens ill probably just shake the dudes hand and say gg, but if its my friend ill be like u got lucky :p.
Losing isn't so bad. But I do enjoy a chance to redeem myself.

I lose a lot more than I win ^^ I don't mind losing at all when the player who beats my ass plays the game well. Had shinshay beat me left and right a couple of weeks ago and it was humbling but a good experience. On the other hand if I get beaten by someone who plays like a total moron + a little lag maybe, then I get too pissed for my own good ^^ Eating wakeup supers, wake up shoryus and other stupid shit to excess just makes want to tear my hair out. Sometimes I'm able to take a deep breath and figure I could use the set as an exercise in patience, other times I just move on and hope the next guy to beat on me knows what he's doing ^^

I agree with what Dasrik said of course, but I did initially mean getting destroyed by someone, regardless of if he's out of your league or not. However losing in general brings about these feelings too. It's funny that anger/ denial has the least amounts of votes but this is what I usually see when I win.

I picked option 2. If I lost because of my own bad execution or failure to capitalize on mistakes, then I get kinda disappointed in myself.
If I'm playing someone that's good, I don't mind losing.

No one likes to lose on a shitty stick. I'm missing obviously easy shit because my stick is stiff and erect as a penis (NO HOMO damn that sounded really gay  ) and I'm not good with sanwa sticks at all.
It frustrates me to no end when I miss shoryuken motions or can't pull supers because I can't get use to the stick. I just want to throw the stick down and quit playing not because of the person, but because I can't do shit so my character becomes 50% of what it's supposed to be.

usually if I lose horribly...I'm a little upset by it, but then I ask questions about how he did what he did (wish I could say she as well...but I have yet to find a girl thats actually "good" at fighting games)
When I'm the one doing it to others...they usually get mad and leave (one guy actually wanted his money back)...but how the fuck are you going to get better if you don't figure out how you screwed up the match in the first place?

If the opponent isn't a complete douche and rubs my loss in my face hardcore (not playful, but seriously being mean about it), then I'd get angry.
If the opponent is pretty chill, then I'd be more than happy to rematch so that I may learn from that guy...
I enjoy getting beating as long as the player isnt a complete douche. I usually learn alot unless my opponent just has speedy as hell fingers. >>;

I usually don't like losing, but if the dude was better then me, then fair game. Yesterday I had a session with my friend who got 3s like 3 weeks ago. He has been playing it obsessively and gets pretty pissed when I beat him. Anyway, during this session, he suddenly went into his grove and kicked my ass 15-7. He parried almost everything I did. When he got an A+ grade against me I was pretty shocked....At this point I began to accept the fact that I got my ass handed to me then he comes out with "yeah man, I wasnt playing properly". Cocky bastard! Next time il have him:wonder:

For me it's been an uphill battle the whole time. I lose a lot and I've gotten used to it.
The problem is really whether I can tell what happened, or if there isn't anything to learn from the match. I'm trying to get better, so every match is a possibility to get better. Sometimes though I play and get creamed and don't learn anything, those are the matches where I get mad. Partly at myself, and partly at the other guy for being ridiculous/mean/whatever.
Ask me again when I've completely gotten out of the beginner tier.
