Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but im new to the scene and was basicaly just wondering which game i should pick up if i want to get into it? I have an xbox and a 360 (as well as a ps2 and gc) and i have been looking mainly at the sf anniversary edition for xbox. I figured that might be the best option because i could play it online, but if there are better options please let me know.

Also, if i have xbox live for my 360, could i use the same account for a regular xbox? and also does that game, or whatever game you guys suggest, work on the 360? thanks a lot.

Play whatever game you like and you can find people to play against in.

Seriously.

You need to know what is hot in your area go the the matchmaking forums and find out who is in your area that should tell you what direction to go or you can just play online games which is not that much fun.

play what the comp plays.

playing without comp is by definition, uncompetitive.

I don't have a 360, but i'm pretty sure you can upgrade your live account. You won't be able to play most of the XB fighters on the 360 though as most of them aren't backwards compatible.

If you want to get into the scene, just play whatever you like. Check out the matchmaking forums and you'll more than likely run into someone who plays whatever your playing.

No point in playing a game if you don't like it.

well if you have an XBOX, this'll be nice to try out the last latest Guilty Gear that America recieved: Guilty Gear XX:Reload. Also, a lot of the SNK games that were on PS2 in japan are on XBOX here...look for KoF '02&'03, KoF NeoWave, SVC Chaos, Samurai Shodown 5. Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (Hyper SF2 and 3s) are worth looking into as well. I'd recommend Soul Calibur 2 if you're a Spawn fan. (he was a guest in the XBOX version) Also, XBOX is gonna be the only place to get your DoA fix...1,2, and 3 are on XBOX, while 4 is on 360. As to whether or not any of those titles are playavle on 360, I doubt it...check the list though, its been increasing at a steady pace last time I heard. Your XBOX Live account should be fine for regular XBOX as well...from what I heard...but I'm not much of an XBOX player, so don't quote me too hard on that one.

PS2 is another good place to check out fighters. Try out Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, or the Tekken series, Soul Calubur 3 is ok...but I hear there isn't much of a scene for it. you can also get SF Anniversary collection, CVS2 and KoF '02 and '03 for it...so thats cool...Stay away from Capcom Fighting Evolution...its stupid. There's KoF: Maximum Impact 1 and 2 (although 2 was renamed KoF 2006 in America...don't ask me why...) 1 wasn't too great but I think 2 is a better game...still not the greatest, but in terms of new shit in america, its not too bad. Modding your PS2 isn't too bad an idea, since it'll open up some doors for you in the long run...if you're into importing, check out Guilty Gear XX Slash, KoF XI, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (thats how they spelled it...), or Melty Blood: Act Cadenza. Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star comes out in March...it looks like fun. Rumble Fish may be worth looking into from the match vids I saw...but I never actually played it, so...I dunno.

Gamecube? Dude...FUCK your Gamecube. When it comes to fighting games...GC is atrocious...just look at that controller for cripes sakes, its CLEARLY fighter unfriendly...and everything that came out on it (except for Smash Brothers, if you're of the camp that believes that game to be a fighter, which I don't) can be found on other consoles...so don't bother, unless you MUST play as Link in their version of Soul Calibur 2 (Heihachi from Tekken was the guest in the PS2 version, with the dumbest master weapon ever...)

essentially though, since you're brand new to the scene (and LATE AS HELL, I might add)...play anything and everything you can and get a feel for what kind of fighting experience you're looking for...there's a lot of good stuff out there.

Get DOA4 for 360....its fun and pretty competitive scene on live.....for ps2 pick up tekken 5...3rdstrike....and if you can get a burned copy or import stuff get GG slash.. the games i named are probably most popular and has a big community all over...

Cosign on the Guilty Gear. It's a damn good fighter, although the community for that seems to be a lot smaller than the other fighter communities out there.

And if you want a Gamecube fighter, then pick Smash. Yeah, a lot of SRK'ers here don't think its a real fighter, but that's only because it doesn't have any of the typical, traditional fighter mechanics. Once you customize it properly to the right settings (neutral stages, no items, stock, 1 v 1) then a lot of its depth starts to shine through. Smash is definitely as deep as Guilty Gear is, though obviously not as technical.

If you're gonna play Tekken 5, may as well get a PS3 for T5DR. It's the latest version and it's the only one being played. T5.0 is obselete. And if you do go by what your local comp is playing, then you're gonna have a lot of investing to make.

ok wow thanks for all the suggestions.

I already do play smash competitively. And i just bought dead or alive 4 for the 360 and have been playing it on line.

I guess since i already have a game for live i could pick up a local game and just practice at home and play it at the local arcade for competition. Thanks a lot for all the information.

Dead Or Alive sucks. I don't care, I said it.

If you want to play a 3D game, play Tekken or VF.

For 2D games, play MVC2 or CVS2.

That's all this site really cares about.

DoA is fun, the community is trash. Unless you live deep EC or Texas, DoA is a big waste of time.

Play Tekken 5 (PS2 or PS3 for Dark Ressurection) for a 3D game that most of the US plays.

Play Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3 and future Xbox 360 release) if you want to play the original 3D fighter with nice graphics, also if you want a fairly balanced game with alot of depth.

Play 3S, MvC2, CvS2, and Guilty Gear (popularity in that order) if you want 2D action.

Also, if really really really want alot of competition fast, but that GC to work and play Smash. Game has some depth, and has a retarded amount of competition.

Well you play smash so your not short on players in NC.

And no capcom FG plays on a 360 cept SF2:HF.

You can play DOA, but virtually 0 people play it in NC;cept for like one guy.I don't know how good he is though.

Use your PS2 for evrything cept MvC2
