View Full Version : Super Turbo (MAME on XBox) Speed Issues

Ok, folks... looked through 6 pages of posts, and nothing about this has shown up, so...

In a nutshell, I finally worked up the courage (and most importantly, obtained the parts) needed to softmod my XBox console. This worked beautifully, and the first piece of homebrew to go on was MAMEoX, with various fighters on it (note: Darkstalkers and Night Warriors don't run very well).

Problem is, I've noticed Super Turbo runs fast. MUCH faster than the Turbo 0 I set in the menu should let it go.

In Kawaks, there's a cheat for SSF2 speed, and so I tried to port it to MAME. No luck. I tried underclocking the CPU (tilde/Back-RightStickClick). Works partially, but makes some things choppy. Not effective.

What do I need to do to resolve this issue and make it so that this game runs at the proper speed (also note: this is 940223. The other will not run at all)?

Best 'console' version of Super Turbo there's gonna be, and still there's problems...

The CPU is mis-emulated at 12Mhz, when arcade board runs at 8Mhz. This is true for all the SF2 games, but for some reason, CPU speed only affect SF2:Turbo and SSF2T. Try FBA-XXX (I think that's what it is). It allows de-clocking the CPU, as well, but is more effective at it.

Yeah, FBA-XXX is the way to go.

This isn't just an issue with mame on xbox, either... it is a confirmed bug in the MAME source. As mentioned, both HF and ST suffer from this.

Amusingly, Callus got it right nearly 10 years ago.
