Is anyone super good at music theory/appreciation. I signed up for this online course and it seems it is to late to back out. Seeing that I have other classes, 40 hour a week job, and a recent death in the family I have not had time for the course. In conclusion, I am far behind and need some help knocking some of it out.

I am actually going to study Music Appreciation/Theory next year.

What is it you need help on? I might be able to help. But don't count on it too much. I know a bit.

Time Signature- This is what keeps the music going. The usual Signature is 4/4. It's the basic Signature for all music. The song "Sleepwalk" by Johnny and Santos has I believe 5/8. You can hear the difference and feel of it.

Note Names- Notes go from A-G. They also have flats and sharps. When a note goes to a sharp of flat, it's a half step. Some are also kind of the same.
Example:
B flat also can be A sharp.
C also equals B sharp.
E also equals F flat.
And so forth. This should give you the idea. You'll learn more little by little.

Whole Half- Whole notes take up a whole measure. And half takes up half. Depending on the Time Signature.
Example:
In 4/4 Time Signature. A whole note equals four beats. A half note equals two beats. It's like quarters.

Key Signature- This tells you what notes are played in flats and sharps. Depending on the clef(Bass or Treble) wherever the sharp or flat is placed, that note is being played as a sharp or flat unless noticed by the note.

Intervals- I am learning this also little by little. Can't really help you there. Sorry.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_(music) This explains it. Hope that helps.

Chord- A chord has different notes in it. Depending whether it's minor or major. Minor usually sounds dark and sad. When Major is bright and happy.

Hope that helped. :wonder:

Time Signature indicates the number of beats in a bar of music. So if the time signature is 4/4 that indicates that there are 4 beats in a bar. The top number tells you how many beats there are.

Interval is the distance between two notes melodically or harmonically (as in a chord).

A chord is when two or more notes are played simultaneously. Different notes can be combined for various effects.

Key signature not only indicates which notes are sharpened or flatted, but also indicates the key of the music.

PLD: check the link you posted. SOmething's not quite right with it.

I have particular questions about a little less than 10 for each topic. I know the basics, but nothing more. If you got AIM hit me up Airswish99, I would much appreciate your time.

I can help too.
to elaborate more-
Time signature - 4/4 (or anything/anything)
Top number = how many beats per measure
Bottom Number = Which kind of note gets the beat.

Intervals - Are numbered from 1 through 13 (I think. It may be higher, but the highest I've seen in a chord is a b13.) Depending on the number of semitones (21 total)Anyway, depending on the intervals used, you will be playing different chords or different genres of music. Typical chords follow a 1-5-7 interval. Some have 1-5-b7 and so on so forth. Basically the entire composition of a chord is based around these itervals and the chord is named accordingly.

Everything else PLD said is correct.

LOL shit i dunno. I could say the same about AIM. Is AIM easy to find/download? I guess we'll have to stick to SRK posts until then.

Yeah sorry I didn't elaborate more. I could have, but my brother had to do something on the net. I was kinda rushing and left some things out. But that should be enough for now. It's not that hard to pick up.

Have fun.
