Okay so lately I have played Guilty Gear alot more than I have 3rd Strike because 3rd Strike is actually starting to get boring.
Anyway, how do you get good at this game. It's alot harder than 3rd Strike.Getting past all of the strange characters, gameplay wise it's like night and day.I've looked up tutorials and everything, but its madess trying to learn all of that stuff.
Roman Cancel
False Roman Cancel
Jump Installs
????
How do you exactly apply all of this stuff to actual gameplay better yet learn all of it as a beginner?
I mean I can just play the game, but I like to have a sense of knowing what I am doing. Its alot easier to jump straight in to 3rd Strike because in my opinion the terminology and everything is really kind of basic.I'm not good in 3rd Strike, but I kind of have an idea about what to do in certain situations.
On the flip side,Guilty Gear's gameplay is kind of deep, and in my opinion not really beginner friendly(If you actually want to learn the little nuances of the game).I will probably be getting a stick soon,so I am sure that will help with execution, but I'm not really sure of to what extent.

Take your time is the only advice I can give you. Work on 1-2 different things until you are comfortable with them, then move on to other stuff. Don't worry too much about doing the biggest and baddest combos, just get some basic B&Bs down until you're comfortable with the systems and such. No reason to try to do some weird JI combo with like 3 FRCs when you can't even FRC consistently.
At the moment, I'm currently learning Slash after being out of the GG gaming front since XX. Basically, Roman Cancels allow for cancelling anything mid-move and connecting another move for big combos. OR you can cancel mid-move for some more pressure strings.
I forget how to Force Roman Cancel. I was able to do it back then in GGXX, but since being out of it for over a year, I completely forgot.

Yeah,I kind of got past that little phaze of trying to pull off crazy 20 hit combo's.I'm just trying to learn the little nuances of the game right now.Thing's that would be easier to bring over from playing 3rd Strike.
Right now I am playing Ky Kiske,Anji-Mito,and Chipp.
Watch the videos, try to understand everything they do, why they do it. YOu can find more than enough videos here:

If you really want some Ky stuff, you have to watch part of a tourney I have. Let me find a link.

First before anything CD or DeathSythe said, pick a character. Once you actually find someone that you like because of w/e reason, then go into learning them. Not gonna really improve if you play Chipp for a whole day, then the next go and play Anji for a day. So yea pick someone you like and play them. And you already have fighting game experience so you don't necessarily need to start with a beginner character. I was hesitent about playing Jo hearing about how complex he was and CD just basically told me "Not that complicated, just play him" so thats what I do.

Since no one has directly answered this, I will.
FRC's are a bit different than normal Roman Cancels. Roman Cancels cost %50 tension and only work after a non-projectile move makes contact with the opponent. FRC's are different in that there is a window in the move (projectile or not) where you may FRC.
For example (and I'm going to make up these frames since I can't really look them up right now), let's imagine that Sol's Gunflame is 20 frames and can be FRC'd on frames 10-13, and that the projectile itself comes out on frame 8. You can FRC during that 4 frame window for 25% tension and avoid the recovery of the move, AND the gunflame projectile is already out. Again, I'm making the numbers up but that's the idea.
FRC's can be used for a variety of things like to extend combos, for pressure, saving yourself from getting counter-hit, etc. Chances are you'll use them more than normal RC's, as they're a very important part of many characters game.
In Training Mode, if you have the Input Display on and do a move that has an FRC, the bar that displays your button inputs will flash blue at the FRC point of that move. This can help you practice FRC's and memorize their timing.
Some of that shit can be pretty hard to consistently get, but don't give up.
EDIT: Totally off-topic from what you asked, but just advice... don't blow off the idea of fautless defense just because it takes meter. Not only does it prevent chip damage, it lets you block ground moves while airborne and also has bigger pushback than normal blocking, which can help get you out of some tight situations.

So, what are the button inputs for FRCs?

Same thing as RCs (three attack buttons except D)
Ah, ok, thank you very much. I'll try what 9Tnine said about the input display when I get home tonight.

Thanks for this help.I really do need to decide on a character so I'll most likely play with Ky since he seems the easiest of the 3 to play with to me.i won't be limiting myself by starting at the lowest of the low beginner level either.Just tryign to learn the little "in's and out's"of the game right now.
BTW by any chance are you OBlackstarO from Gamefaqs?

Not off-topic.Any help is good help.Just trying to learn the game. Thanks for clearing this tidbit up for me.I actually didn't know the difference between a RC and a FRC.I didn't know what exactly Faultess Defense did either(Alot of things I don't know about) so thanks for the tips.

Same thing as RCs (three attack buttons except D)
but with timing certain frames animations. example, Sol's gun flame and Jam's ground slam.

I think one of the most important things to learn in Guilty Gear is solid defense. Typical matchplay is based around something called "okizeme," which is basically pressure after a knockdown. Every character has a way to keep you blocking after they score a knockdown (ex. Sol's gunflame or Baiken's tatami mat), and this leads to possible mixups. It's necessary to learn each character's various offensive options. As you probably know, each character has an overhead launcher in their 5D (standing dust) and a directional normal throw, but some characters have normals that are overheads (ex. Testament 6P (forward + P)), and some characters have command throws (ex. Potemkin or Sol). Try to become aware of what each character is capable of.
Faultless Defense (FD) is a great option if you're fighting a character that is strong up close. Use it to push them away if you have meter to spare. Also, there's a technique called Instant Block (IB) that's very much like Just Defense from MOTW or CVS2. If you hit back/downback just before you block something, your character will flash white for a moment. IB decreases blockstun, which sometimes allows you to escape from a blockstring by attacking or throwing when you normally wouldn't be able to.

Yea same Blackstar. Also watch vids of the character/characters you want to play and that may be a deciding factor in who you want to play. I've thought several characters would be my main's but after seeing vids, I was just like "ehh" (i.e. May,Anji,Axl,Baiken).

just to add to this, the best players in the game should be watched in order to see which character you like the best, since in the end, they are the ones that are experts using those characters, and thus will display that character's full potential. Some characters might not seem that interesting at first glance.
Also, this is not a button masher's game, in the sense that if you do get corner trapped, just hitting buttons is not going to work. Many times (especially against Ky's lockdown qcf+D), you will just have to be patient and block until there is some opening.
FRC is kinda like red parrying, the timing is stricter and only allowed at a certain point not like RC which is allowed the whole move
usually depending on the character theres something to help you FRC visually say his arms at a certain point or he stops
(im a dizzy player so i dont have that D: )
as for practicing em make sure you practice enough to get a frc 9/10 times and when you thing your ready try FRCing after moves like d.D or after a gatling combo
about jump install
Jump install originated as a glitch, but has been accepted and is now a common technique. The basic idea is that you trick the game into thinking you have already jumped, but actually never leave the ground. The net result of this is that if you leave the ground under a condition that would normally not allow you to double jump or air dash, you will still be able to do these things.
The way to actually do a Jump Install is by starting a jump motion, but before you leave the ground, input something that causes you to stay on the ground
Jump Install will NOT let you jump cancel a move that can't normally be jump canceled. JI is only useful if you enter the air by some method that normally doesn't let you double jump (such as a specfic special move or a super jump).
Jump Install cannot be done in the air, and wouldn't be useful even if you could.

meh i'm getting into GGS too, i use Sol because he's the most "normal" character. I found him to be the easiest to use. I got most of his combos down in GGS. My problem is that i can't seem to learn any other character and the fact that the Omaha guys are top players (placed 2nd or 3rd in evo) and i get my ass handed to me in 30 seconds usually.
I think that sol got nerfed in GGAC (from what i saw in Youtube videos) which makes me sad  . BTW P and K being swaped (unlike street fighter) confuse the hell out of me when i try to learn a new character .

being from Omaha and played the best...he speaks the truth. Simon's Sol is cheap but aggressive as fuck. we are mostly aggressive players but not 100% of the time. i just wish Cam would play guilty and not so much 3s.

Say what you want about Sol "getting nerfed", but he's still considered top tier in slash, typically 2nd to best character top if not best.

another tidbit, after you dash on the ground, use a quick FD to cancel dash recovery.
biolink, do you go to nickels to play GGS?

Nope.I am way on the SouthSide and I am not actually driving yet(17 years old).Taking public transportation all the way to Northbrook Illinois is out of the question because that will take about 4 hours of my time.
I'm cool without being able to get to Nickels for right now I guess. Are there any colleges in Northbrook Illinois to give me an excuse to go up there and stay I guess?

i live Oak Park, so its a bit of a drive for me, but the cats up there on saturday nights are good. im originally from ohio, so i have no idea what colleges are in the NorthBrook area. did you go to MWC5 a couple of weekends ago? i decided to get hardcore on GGS since then. GG is the future of 2D fighting games. GG is developed by original capcom fighter developers, high quality graphics/sprites, most advanced game engine, frequent updates, multiplatforms, big following, etc....
do you play GG by yourself? or do you have people to play against? im still learning a bunch about GG myself.

I practice mainly by myself and I play around with my little brother and cousins(Although they are no match for me since I know alot more about the game than they do).I couldn't make MWC either :(
I don't really have the time to make any trips to any arcades since there aren't any in the city and most of them are far out in the Suburbs. So for right now I don't really bother myself with going to arcades(At least for right now).
