Well the day after posting in the What Kind of Car are you Driving thread the timing belt in my Laser RS took a shit and fucked my motor (which apparently all DSMs are notorious for).

I need some suggestions on some 4 or 6 cylinder cars with really good gas mileage (don't car about the looks, but it'd be nice). Something I could find used, with a recent amount of miles for around $ 1,500.00.

If you dont mind something older, you could get a civic/cavalier/accord/neon for around that price. Something from '91 to '95 or so.

You're working with $1,500? - '89 - '90 Nissan 240SX if you find a '91 ~ '93 for $1,500 then get it checked out.

Toyota corolla. Best car ever made. Awesome mpg, reliable, and damn near indestructible. My experience comes from the mid 90's version.

2nd on the Corolla. Mine is a 1990, got it for $950, and at 202K, still purrs really well. No problems yet, and I have had it for a year. You have to work really hard at breaking those engines:)

Corolla if you want to drive a washing machine. For 1500 you can get older other products that have some life to them. I'd take a 4 banger Mustang over any Econobox due to fuel efficiency and the potential for future 302 action. 240sx would be good bet too though they have great potential and look bad ass.

yeah you might be able to find a Nissan S13, Socal is flooded with 240's, as for the midwest might be a bit harder to find one.

But for 1500 you can't expect for everything to just go swell.....
