I know people LOVE pandas, but what exactly do they do? How do they help other species in nature?
To me they're like animals on welfare just sitting back and getting mad bamboo for doing shit except being near extinction.
Why is so much time and money being spend on pandas?

people only care because they're the "cute" ones of the animal kingdom. Pandas mostly fail at life for needing all kinds of extra motivation to fuck. They constantly need humanity's help on this issue....it's amazingly pitiful.

My guess is they used to be population control for the Chinese. Pandas die down and all-of-a-sudden BOOM! 1/4 of the planet is Chinese.

They're not real pandas.
I've been apart of the panda-hating movement since day one. Even before Chinese land encroachment they always had low breeding rates and low populations. Think about it: THEY ARE BEARS THAT ONLY EAT GRASS!!!
Not only does bamboo have poor supply of nutrients, the energy they receive is only 1/5 more than the energy they use to actually eat the freaking bamboo! Which they eat exclusively or starve themselves!

Evolutionary Failures. They'd be extinct in a few hundred years even without negative human intervention. Bamboo Grass don't even need them because they reproduce and mature incredibly fast on their own.
If a human being lived like a panda they'd be an impotent hermit with no libido who only eats weeds and then sleeps for 21 hours each day- only to repeat the same pointless cycle the next day.

I would love to have the opportunity to dine on panda some day.
I don't have something against them and I don't want to see them extinct, but imagine the dap you would get to say you've eaten panda. It probably tastes like shit, but having bragging rights that you've eaten an endangered species is something I would love to have.

nah its not that bad. the ratio is slightly skewed right now, but if anything, we can use the sexual frustration of the extra guys and march over to russia/korea/japan/etc and rape/pillage.
besides the whole female killing thing is mostly just a problem in the rural areas, not so much the urban areas

If Pandas were out in the wild wouldn't they just go extinct naturally? I mean, they'd die of starvation due to lack of a food source. Not to mention that it is extremely difficult to get them to mate.

No, they've been around for a while, until we started killing them and cutting down their natural habitat.
There is no practical use for keeping them around. It's the principle man. You kill them off, there are none left in the world. Nada. If we kill the Panda's off because they aren't practical, why stop there? Why not kill off all useless species? They've just become symbolic off the way we're destroying nature.
I really can't tell if you're serious or being facetious.
