Well, like I said its debatable. Its one of those philosophical things that will probally never be agreed on. Your talking about altruism, and technically its not truly irresitable. There are boys in afghanistan being raped so bad that their intestines drag in the dirt after the assault. I know this is happening. And I lose sleep over it. But im not doing anything to solve the problem. The closest thing we do that is instinctual is sleep. It is irresitable. It isnt learned. It never changes, our method of sleeping stays constant our entire lives.

google this shit. its actually an interesting read. im just regurgitating shit ive read anyway.

See, I think we have different ideas on the definition of instinct. Sleep to me isn't an instinct, it's a nautral bodily function, like breathing. If you don't sleep for long enough your body will straight up shut you off. I agree that the abandoned baby is a bad reference, but fight or flight is a really good example. Not trying to discredit you, but I don't see how anyone could argue that fight or flight isn't an instinct. I guess you could use my same arguement that adrenaline is just a bodily function, but I dunno. Whateva.

fight or flight is a really good example.

I think some circles of thought don't consider it a instinct (in humans) because a choice is still being made. And in cases of non-violent protesters like ghandi then they are choosing to do neither. In animals like a rabbit for example it is an instinct because they are just reacting with flight without any knowledge of how or why.

Sleep; instinct? It's debatable.

Not to be argumentative (because you're a sexy, sexy man) but I don't think even non-violent types can quell 'fight or flight'. It's a specific part of the brain, and somehow I doubt one can just 'turn it off'. To turn it off would mean that a person would never have judgment in times of danger, and therefore would never experience adrenaline, and I REALLY doubt one can just turn off adrenaline in their body.

It's a moot point anyway though. Whether it's an instinct or not really doesn't change that it's there :P

An interesting point... but IMO the instinct is still there, ghandi was just an extremely, extremely mentally disciplined man. I agree we are intelligent and have the capability to choose to ignore our instinct, but that does not mean the instinctual feeling is not there.

With enough discipline you can turn anything in your mind off, including your entire mind. (Just got back from yoga, can you tell? ;D)

This isn't true, they still have judgment - they'd have more clearheaded/rational judgment rather than instinctual, snap-judgment. Rather than thinking of it like turning off the adrenaline function, think about it as turning off the way of thinking that leads to that panicked state where adrenaline takes over.

But an instinct is defined as something that cannot be ignored. It is irresistable. Under any circumstance. If it can be ignored then its not a instinct. It's a motivational force. And we can choose to ignore a motivational force.

In my dictionary here I've got

instinct n.
The innate aspect of behavior that is unlearned, complex, and normally adaptive.
A powerful motivation or impulse.

I see your argument and I'm not trying to invalidate it... but the fact that we're intelligent enough to ignore this powerful motivation/impulse doesn't really mean that it's not instinct though, does it? It is irresistible in lower species because they are not modernized/intelligent enough to really think about what is going on. I don't see a definition of it being completely irresistible as a characteristic of the word.

the question is what can't be ignorned? The desire to eat, to nourish yourself, most people would say is a pretty basic, obvious natural instinct. Yet there are people But there are people who throw this idea out the window and starve themselves to dangerous levels of malnutrition for the sake of body image.

I suppose you could see something like flailing your arms wildly in self defence if you were being mauled by a bear instinct, but you could also call it a lack of self control. If somebody knew how to defend themselves and had the necessary discipline, they wouldn't flail randomly but rather opt for something more effective.

If hunger or fear is just a motivational force to keep us from dying, what isn't? People go to jobs they hate everyday because they know they need to to keep living. I'd hardly call that instinct though.

Wouldn't you like.. die? If you turned off your mind, that is. I suppose you could turn it off in the thought realm of it, and obviously not the actual functioning.

Anyway, I'm still unconvinced that you can completely turn off fight or flight. Granted I'm no expert, and therefore could be completely wrong, its just I think every human being has something that would induce it. Though I would agree that with a lot of discipline (or whatever floats your boat) you could tone it down to a point where you may never would get the feeling. As in I'm sure if you dropped Ghandi from several thousands miles in the air, he would get an adreniline rush. Granted that would probably never happen, which is why I say that those with such a serious discipline could stay calm in otherwise dangerous situations....

But meh.

Absolutely not. Fight or flight can not be controlled.

If you think youre home alone, and I burst out your closet wearing a Brian Peppers mask with a knife in my hand youre going go have a PEAK in adrenaline.

You are within seconds going to decide to:

1-break your neck busting through your bedroom door, out the window or flying into the bathroom
2-put up your fists and get ready to throw down

Theres no way youre going to look up, see me, then repress those feelings of excitement and sit there unmoved. No way possible.

lol... there's a difference betwen your mind and your brain.

I believe that with enough meditation, vacation from the societal world, and time in general, you could train yourself to be in a state of mind where nothing triggers a surprise or adrenaline rush. I believe you'd be expecting nothing and anything at the same time. Sounds like hippie mumbo jumbo I'm sure, but I could imagine an enlightened sage who has reached a state of constant samadhi could stifle any reaction really.

Yes, if someone busts out of MY closet with a knife, I will have quite a startle. I don't think I am a very good reference on which to base the possibilities of the human mind.

Anyway, this is too deep for this topic now, let's talk about hairy chests. Aw yeah.

Well instead of your average person, what if it was a navy seal or something? There are people who train to deal with dangerous, unpredictable situations and make split second life or death decisions. I suppose it is still fight or flight response, but they have a better idea of their own abilities, and more capable of assessing a threat because of training/experience, which would suggest a more rational thought process than just "gut instinct".

Do you think fear can be mastered? I hope so.

yah yaahh b*tch!
06-04-2009, 02:00 AM
Fear and adrenaline are two different things. Thats like saying you can stop yourself from releasing growth hormone or saliva. You can not control your bodys release of adrenaline. If something triggers excitement then you are going to release adrenaline, if its a fight or flight situation then you are goign to act accordingly. If youre driving down the street and your breaks go out, youre going to shit on yourself, theres no amount of mental jumping jacks that you can do to circle around that.

All I'm saying is the human mind is capable of being in a place where you don't get surprised to the point of releasing adrenaline. All the examples being brought up are things that would happen to you or I, driving, coming home with someone in the closet, etc. and are all irrelevant to the kind of person I'm talking about. But I digress, my points are being overlooked and I'm over it. New subject.

I guess I might be going to my first pride fest/march this year, my friends wanna drag me along. So I'll probably drag Wayne along. Not really my bag, but I figure there'll be enough shirtless hairy guys to keep me entertained. Oh and dikes on bikes is always funny.

BeaTs*

i agree with fight or flight not necessarily being an instinct. depending on the situation, it could just be learned.

inexperienced or young humans (even animals) don't activate fight or flight even when it's right in front of them. even young animals (like that video of a lizard attempting to, and even getting the baby chick in it's mouth. the chick eventually escapes, but still stays right there not really knowing what's up)

I was just reading this too, and found some stuff related to F or F in it, so thought may as well post: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1053663-1,00.html

as mentioned, certain protesters can sorta turn those reactions off.

like mentioned in the article, some (or most) people tend to NOT believe. if I was in a jump out of closet with mask situation, I may react and jump quickly (actually, I highly believe I would freeze, and just try to think what was going on and come to the conclusion it's a trick, or die before I come to that), but probably not believe it's really a threat and think it's a friend or family member playing a trick...

blah blah.

Pablo_the_Mex
06-04-2009, 11:21 AM
Getting into some real deep shit, like the article referenced by Beatz, does make people do some weird things. Like when people catch on fire and they run, completely forgetting about dropping down and rolling. Almost anything can be learned.

BeaTs*
06-04-2009, 11:27 AM
i was reading up on that terrible flight france disaster on yahoo, and came across a few interesting disaster articles.

seems more often than not, there is no fight or flight, but rather people freezing, thinking, trying to comprehend, etc.

even of the fewer people that flee, it's always a thought out process, they wait a bit, but because they have the knowledge and experience, they act quicker (or actually act at all), and smarter. definitely doesn't seem like an "instinct"

we get the chemical reaction, but our human brain tends to funk up any sort of instinctual fight or flight. and only those with experience can use their brains to react quickly

here are the other 2 articles I haven't read yet

Well, what if you were "slow"? or high? you don't notice the breaks go out. No fear. No adrenaline. I guess excitement is relative.
I mean, people have panic attacks over basically nothing. But apparently they have drugs for that. I'm not sure if that counts as controlling your body's release of adrenaline.

Free will is another one of those things that depends on how you define it. My whole point about instincts was that in different circles there are different definitions of instinct. Some beleive in certain criteria and hold them strictly. Some are lax and think everything is a instinct. Some have like varying degrees of instinct and so on and so forth. I subscribe to the strict definition because I like feeling responsible for myself and not having a cop out for doing stupid shit. No matter what mistakes I make I won't ever say, "well, its because its my instinct to (insert here), I am an animal after all."

I'm not upset or anything, just wondering what you guys think it is

You could always respond by saying, "Ewww gross! I'm not gay."

Or you could just be polite.

In the future, please be less irresistible.

You look fat.

Just randomly, our thread has the 10th most highest postings on SRK GD. Yes I'm bored. :D

Broads like to talk. You look a lot better now that you are rocking a more masculine look. I hate it when I see guys with super masculine faces rocking femenine haircuts or hair. It looks awful, people should enhance their looks not try to change them completely.

NOTE: On gay guys. If it's a handsome man I get a kick out of it. If it's an old man, I get sick to my stomach because of what I can read in his eyes. Now that I'm experimenting with eye contact I think I'm starting to cath what I would the large subtle mayority as oppose to the flamming minority. This is all happening on the normal street scene.

They guys that TOTALLY piss me off are the asian gay guys at yoga because they look at me as if I'm not good enough for them cause I ain't white. I always feel like judo slamming them against the floor and screaming at their face " You not all that motherfucker"... this is what I think during warrior pose anyways

I realize this has nothing to do with sexuality since I also feel like slapping attractive women that think a little too much of themselves. Yes you are hot, not I don't want to fuck you because you are an insuferrable cunt.

I'll be there. I'm entering 3s and 4. I'm not real into 4, to be honest, but since I'm already there I might as well enter. I'm on the fence about HDR. I like to play ST, but I'm pretty rusty now. I might just jump on that one as well, though.

Last year a roommate said " (me), I like you..." while driving down the freeway.

I said, "...ya..."

10 months with him in the apartment and I never knew. Another friend of mine said he had a gay friend come out to him, saying he had liked him for awhile. I realized another buddy I knew in a school club was gay for me too. It made things really awkward.

Do gay guys ever have issues or problems liking straight guys?

only if the straight guys dont' put out.

Alot of times with newbies (or younger gay people) the desire for a boyfriend/girlfriend makes things awkward.. As in they fall in love in their head and expect real life to follow suit.

Personally I don't care if you are gay or straight.. we can figure all of that out after you are done blowing me.

I'm going to Evo. I'll be doing mostly one of two things: 1) Following GTC and trying to get him to smile a toothy grin for me. He is holding out on some pearlies. 2) Getting lost like a tourist.

I registered without entering anything. My GGAC game isn't tourney worthy. This was back in March before Allisbrawl.com partnered up Evo. If they were listed in the beginning, then i would have entered in Brawl. But I don't want to reregister, so i'll strictly be a spectator for the major tournies. I'll be bringing my wavebird just in case someone brings their Wii along in one of the rooms.

Speaking of, any of ya'll going to set up a room for all of us to hang? Consoles, beer, lube, etc. We need a place for Strip Fighter, damnit.

So, let's discuss The "Butch Factor,"

I'm thinking about going up to SF, 2 weekends from now, to see this filmumentary called "The Butch Factor" at the International Frameline 33: SF LGBT Film Festival.
Trailer: http://www.thebutchfactor.com/Media/Butch%20Open%20Web-H.264%20800Kbps.mov
Film Info: http://www.frameline.org/festival/film/detail.aspx?id=1737&fid=45

Frequently, Hines gets his subjects to reflect revealingly on what made them the type of man they are today. The director also presents recent changes in cultural norms of masculinity, such as the “bromance” and the metrosexual, while excavating the past for images of the mustachioed “clone” and stereotypical queen. On the expert level, a knowledgeable cross-section of teachers, writers, and psychologists discuss their own views of gay culture and masculinity. Amongst all these different men and their corresponding “butch factors,” the salient point of Hines’ clever and fast-paced film is that, for gay men, acknowledging your homosexuality is just one of the steps along the path of discovering exactly what kind of man you are. — ROD ARMSTRONG

How "Butch" do you think you are? what OGTs (obvious gay traits) do you have?

How "Butch" do you think you are? what OGTs (obvious gay traits) do you have?

Seems like a fairly interesting film.

I don't like to play the label game. While I do have a preference for guys it does not define who I am. I don't think I look act or sound gay. I don't fit any of the glaringly obvious stereotypes. I think if anything I'm probably more genuine, sensitive and caring then your typical heterosexual. I'm more passionate and intense. I'm clean and tidy and I care about my appearance but not nearly to the same degree as most gay people do. I suppose I can't really call any of this stuff obvious but that's the best I can come up with right now.

I don't feel that I fit in with straight or gay people, but I typically have far more in common with heterosexuals then I do with homosexuals.

Since I more or less just outed myself perhaps someone from the BC scene will stumble across my post and comment on my faggotry!

I thought that was a common practice amongst black metal bands? I know the Norwegian black metal bands do that. So i don't think that's a OGT.

Fennec: Oh, i thought you just browsed for the heck of it. In any case, It's one less person to worry about it. I've grown tired of putting masculinity on a pedestal and guarding things that i do/act/say, so I've come to a point where it's who i am and if someone I know in real life finds out, it won't change things. If someone has problem with it, that's not on me. Oh and, welcome. Also, pics? (it's encouraged, haha)

My OGTs? Hmm. Well, I like to cook. No wait, most chefs are men. I encourage emotion and know a thing or two about colors. No wait, that's because i'm an artist by trade. I'm not much of a sports fan. No wait, that's not uncommon. Well, damn. Most of Madonna's work is dance-music-oriented, and I listen to electronica, does that count?

The only thing i can think of is that i enjoy watching Project Runway, amongst other things on the Bravo Network (go Top Chef!). Then again, I just watch for the creativity rather than the fashion factor.

I complain when other people try to match clothes and do a horrible job. If you don't care and don't try, that's all good. When you try to 'match' by wearing four different shades of red, ugh. :nono:

My t-shirts hung up in my closet are ordered by color - it's like a giant rainbow in my closet. :bgrin:

I'm pretty clean? I'm into having things tidy. Still working on keeping them tidy.

That's all I can think of, I'm organized and into matching clothes. Other than, you know, liking men's bottoms and all that.

Oh, I guess the hair dyeing thing. I'm p good with hair. I cut my own hair but I'm not exactly good at it, just patient.

On the whole though, everyone that doesn't know me that finds out is totally taken aback by the fact that I'm gay. It annoys me, I actually understand why guys adopt lisps.

Hmmm...actually, I conveniently was reading on temperature-related (and pressure-related) diseases in the book Body Trauma yesterday, and yeah, that doesn't sound like heat exhaustion at all since all you have to do get rid of it is drink lots of fluids.

How are you sure it was even heat exhaustion in the first place? What's the temperature been like in Hel...er Texas lately?

lol, well I was a lifeguard back in my early 20's, and I never had a problem with it cause I knew how to care of myself. I just got laid off recently so I went back to lifeguarding cause it was the only thing I could find on such short notice.

I know how to take care of myself in the heat, although it HAS been in the 100's here. I'm going to the doctoro tomorrow just to check things out. Hypertention and high blood pressure do run in my family, and those with those diseases do have a higher instance of heat exhaustion, so he'll probably check that out.

Yeah, man. I understand that there's the distance aspect, i'm not close enough to be present all the time and be a regular member of the posse. Though, how can I get the chance to do so if I don't get the chance to be included? He's as local as I can get.

There just isn't a strong lump of people in the immediate local area to me to do gay stuff with.

Define "gay stuff"

I'm not aware of any "gay stuff" that's worth doing.

Regular activities, but with a group of like-minded people, a.k.a. "all gay posse." A group and a place where I'm not afraid of sharing with a buddy "Hey check out that dude, he's got a purty mouf" or "how's the bacon? I'd love to pork you." Where I can be comfortable letting my inner gay breathe a little.

For example, this friend goes up to Castro every weekend, and on one occasion he said he would bring me up on a weekend because it's much more crowded and friendly. He's been going every weekend, every time i catch up with him, he always goes on and on about the things he saw/did at the Castro and says that I should go sometime. I enjoy listening to the stories, but when is this invite going to happen? Never? I've been told to be patient by other people, but it doesn't help to be constantly reminded I missed out on these "fun things."

(I mean, unless you dying to say the "how's the bacon? I'd love to pork you" line to people and not have them back away with such rapidity that Sonic the Hedgehog looks slow.)

I don't know. I never got why you--"you" in the general sense, not specifically you--necessarily had to hang out with like-minded people, but then I pretty much feel like a hanger-on almost any time I'm out with more than one person, so yeah.

(It's why I kind of laughed upon hearing that gay fraternity at UCB kind of imploded in less than a years time; everyone apparently slept with everyone else. What a way to defeat stereotypes, guys.)

From experience, I couldn't. I've done that behavior around regular folk, but they just nod their head and don't really react to it other than nervous laughter or "That's sick, man. Whatever floats your boat." There's no rapport created because they end up twisting it into a stupid homophobe joke, or just don't care to relate to it and ignore it. I might as well be commenting to the air.

I don't have that problem with like-minded gay folk. They "get" it, and I feel less of an outcast.

I don't have that problem with like-minded gay folk. They "get" it, and I feel less of an outcast.

I'm only bolding this part because it's what I was trying to get at rather than you said earlier: just because someone else is gay doesn't mean they're going to be like-minded to your situation.

I mean, I'm sure you know that, especially if you think that (sole?) guy you know who happens to be gay* is avoiding, but a lot of the times I've come into this thread or seen people talking on the Internet, people seem to automatically think that gay people all get along when they're just as divided as any other group of people.

I get that perhaps only people that happen to be gay would happen to get the difficulty that some people who happen to be gay have when it comes to "coming out", but not even all of them have to deal with that considering some of them are lucky enough to have parents who don't care for one reason or another among other things.

Shrug.

*Sorry for going all PC--well, I'm not sure you could even call it PC since gays are like the one American minority outside of maybe Muslims and atheists that media doesn't have to exactly cater to--on you by not just saying "gay people", but as I mentioned last year with my whole being mystified by "gay pride", it bugs me when gay people let being gay basically completely define them.

(Then again, basically any non-achievement-based "pride" event bugs the hell out of me.)

If you really want to make friends I guess you could try to find a group that does stuff you like that's gay oriented. Whether it's at a gay and lesbian center or on craigslist, you could try to find groups there (avoiding finding sex there though :-\). I do gay bowling for example, and I've met a lot of people from there. It has more of a chance than your average straight guy. I have a much higher chance of getting along with any gay guy than any straight guy. It just so happens we'll always at least have one thing in common, something to bond over. I have very little in common with most straight guys - not trying to generalize, but like aside from srk peeps and other video game nerds, I have a much better time hanging out with gays. I know it's all exclusive and not fair but to be honest, but I'd rather hang out with a gay guy than a straight guy any day of the week. I don't have many gay guy friends though, so it's still exciting to me in a way.

I totally agree on the 'letting my gay breathe' or whatever. It's hard to explain but there's just a higher level of comfort when I'm around people that are gay. I'm so used to being outnumbered in all situations of my life, it feels good to have other people around with the same orientation. It doesn't matter much though because I'm one of those weird gays that only likes older guys so I can't really like check out guys and talk about how hot some random guy is with other gays, because they're like dude that's gross. But they're not as grossed out as a straight guy would be.

That would require too much effort spent youtubing music I don't like.
The songs I did quickly look for I couldn't find.

I don't know what the gay clubs are like over there but over here they play the most monotonous boring trashy house music. Even if I was on E I still wouldn't dance to it because it's that bad.

All of my friends from Europe that have been out to the clubs here are like "WTF is this shit?" So maybe your scene is a bit different over there and you aren't subjected to really horrible House music.

I watch a LOT (and I mean a LOT!) of TV and since I've been with Netflix for about 8 years I've seen quite a lot of movies too. That said I'd need to know what kinds of things you like in a TV Show/Movie. What generes what types of story lines etc. Do you care if the shows have been off the air for a while and therefore would have to be tracked down on DVD or the internet? If old shows are fine then do you have a lot of time to watch them I.e. would you care if it was a show that ran for 7 years therefore giving you over a hundred episodes to watch? Similarly if it's a show on the air now would you want to have to go back and track down the already aired episodes?

I could give you my 5 top shows of all time and my 5 top shows currently airing but you might not like any of them.

5. Burn Notice
4. Dollhouse
3. True Blood
2. Dexter
1. Lost

I can't really answer those questions since I generally steer clear of TV related programming. I enjoyed the first season of Heroes. I thought the second season was pretty lame and I only bothered to watch the first episode of the third season. I'm not sure if I can be bothered to watch the rest of the third season since the second season pretty much ruined it for me. I also heard from a friend that the third season wasn't that great.

I've seen all 3 seasons of Dexter. It's good, but some of the character relationships kind've annoyed me so I'd often skip forward as I watched.

I've probably seen every episode of Seinfield and I enjoyed it for it's time but I couldn't go back and revisit something like that.

I watched about 20 minutes of the first episode of Lost and I was bored out of my mind.

I enjoyed watching most of The Ultimate Fighter series.

Recent movies that I've seen and enjoyed:

Taken
Gran Torino
Slumdog Millionaire
Twilight (I'm not sure why, it's pretty shitty, but I like it.)
Splinter

I'm sure there's more but that's all I can really come up with off the top of my head.

Can you give me an example what a song with "queer sounding vocals" sounds like?

This? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTN6Du3MCgI)

Dexter is amazing, just started the second season on DVD today. Looking to be an interesting season.

I've been enjoying Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother but it's summer repeats now.

Movie-wise, I've been hearing good things about Let The Right One In, the Swedish vampire flick. There's also Anvil! The Story of Anvil which, if you can't tell by the title is about Anvil, the band. I'm really looking forward to Where the Wild Things Are.

And thus I introduce myself in this thread, with the Electric Six no less. I could've at least picked "Danger! High Voltage".

I like film. I like it so much that I'm studying toward a career in film. So when you ask me about films, my perceptive is skewed.

I watch a film almost every night, and out of the lemons I sit through these are the films that I recommend watching, in most recent order. These are all first viewings:

Up - Tearing a page from Miyazaki's work, it's a definite winner.
Doubt - Solid performances and a solid concept. No two viewings are alike.
Slumdog Millionaire - I read the book beforehand, so I knew the plot already. They changed a few things, and turned the film into a love story, but overall it geat.
Star Trek - Total popcorn flick filled with what you want in a summer blockbuster: explosions, fights, sex, and time travel. Screenplay is written with an acid tongue, and it's much appreciate in an "alternate universe" Star Trek.
A Clockwork Orange - Ahead of it's time in style, socially relevant as a period piece. I enjoyed it for its extreme and unsettling subject matter: illusion of choice.
The Kite Runner - A bittersweet story of redemption. I really liked the setup and frame of the very last shot. He runs down the hill passed the camera as his step-brother's kite runner, it gets quiet for a couple of frames, then the credits roll. Really nice way to wrap up the film.
Into the Wild - An incredible and sad film about loneliness, self discovery, doom, alienation, and happiness. McCandless's memorable last written words resonated and hit me like a ton a bricks.

I listen to electronica regularly, is why I ask. I could list a bunch of things, but it might over saturate you. Distinguishing what House is or is not can be silly at times. Infusion happens across all genres. Electronica is less exposed over here, you'll only really find it in underground and hobbiest scenes, so of course what is played on the most popular venues of this side of the glow stick will not represent the good stuff. People are still stuck in lumping anything remotely electronica under the "techno" label.

I haven't been to a gay club out here so I don't know first hand what plays. The US as a whole have many different scenes. Chicago and Seattle has a thriving Electro-House infusion scene. NY has some grimier tunes. LA is a mixed bag of old and new. Not sure about Miami or Texas, I don't pay attention to them. San Francisco (bay area)... this is what you're looking for. All of it is here. It's a welcoming port for all of European artists.

You're into the heavier trance, so rather than labelling what is and isn't trance/house/whatever, i'll just pass on a few suggestions on what I like that's close to your taste:

I'm not one of those people that lump Electronic into the the "Techno" category. I've been listening to Electronic for a long time. I have a pretty good ear and can usually differentiate between what is what. Yes sometimes you get a fusion of sounds and you can't really attach a specific label but you can get pretty close with most tracks.

I've heard all those tracks before except for the Tiesto one. Mmm I maybe should have been more specific in my requests. Looking for stuff that was produced no earlier then 2007. Don't worry about trying to over sature me. I listen to a lot of music.

>> Xpander is a classic, but I've played it to death.

>> Not particularly a fan of OceanLab stuff. I tend to find it boring.

>> Only heard a few Voodoo & Serano tracks that I somewhat liked back in the day, but that sound is a bit dated and cheesy much like Darude - Sandstorm is.

>> Cosmicman is great but oldschool. I love Krystal Dreams by Cosmicman too.

>> Mark Norman is a pretty good producer, probably not one of my more favorite tracks by him. I prefer Niagara and Brasillia.

>> Tiesto was the shit back in the 90's and early 2000's but he's a bit washed up now. I was more into his set track selection then his actual productions. If you're going to send someone a Tiesto track it should be either of these two. ;D

I should have been more specific with the movies too. Looking for stuff that's already on DVD that isn't too old. (90's+) I typically prefer action/horror.

I appreciate the help/suggestions though!

Yes. House music is only "gay" in north america.

Fred Falke, Deadmau, Bangalter and co. all make music for people. Not gay people.

Cheesy techno trance has given all electronica a bad name, mainly house with its soulful R&B a capellas and smooth vocals.

Same as a self-hating Jewish person, someone who resents their nature/upbringing whatever. Not saying you are, just saying. It's like a misanthropic version of autophobia, the fear of oneself.

What everybody needs to understand and clarify in their posts is the difference between "I don't listen to this because it sounds kinda gay" and "I don't listen to this because I had to listen to too many songs that have this same kinda-gay sound to them".

I think it comes down to calling vocals "borderline gay" for their delivery is interpreted into falling back on gay stereotypes; effeminate voices, high pitches, emotional delivery and/or lyrics.

I think you are born this way.

Though some people would have you believe that your upbringing - childhood and early teen life experiences can have an effect on your sexual preference. In some ways I can see the connection between this theory and myself because at some point I did feel an attraction towards women. I did date women and play around a bit. However I could also say that I was influenced to feel this way by society. Over time I came to realize that I wasn't heterosexual. It was not my first preference.

I don't believe that you wake up one day and say to yourself "Hey, I like cock." for no reason.

That's illogical because unless you are attracted to guys you wouldn't progress in that direction.

There's no "turning yourself into" anything.

you are born with the attraction.

Okay, not that you asked but here is my take on situations like the one you mentioned.

I look at sex as an act to fulfill a need. much in the same way eating fulfills your need to eat or scratching fulfills your need to stop an itch.

gay straight bi transgender doesn't really matter you have sex because you are horney. just like indian chinese japanese american jamaican foods dont' really matter cause you are gonna eat if you are hungry.

You may not prefer indian food but if you are really hungry you may eat it. Just like someone may put sushi in the form of a burger and you may eat it and like it.. and then realize it wasnt exactly a burger. it stopped you from being hungry and even if you never have it again you've tried sushi.

You may have an itch on your back and instead of trying to reach it yourself you might ask someone else to scratch your back for you .. or you might scratch against a tree or my personal favorite.. scratching your back against a brick wall.. mmmmm.

so you got with a tranny..
no biggie. I know people would be quick to put a label on that but i see more and more that labels are just fuckin stupid.

You HAVE met gay people that talk normal - you just didn't realize it because they are "talking normal" as you put it. They don't stand out like the glaringly obvious stereotypical homosexual does.

Most people that have met me just assume I'm straight upon first impression. (Including other gay people.)

There are many gay people that are difficult to detect.

The more effeminate lisp speaking homosexual is born this way.
Though I'm sure *some* people subconsciously adopt these characteristics due to the company they keep. Others want to fit in and change intentionally. MOST simply are this way and cannot help it.

In reality, some talk "that way" the same reason some southerners have that slow drawl. It can be a reaction to your environment/friends, it can be subconsciously developed to fit into your own and others expectations of what a gay dude should sound like... hell, some guys I've met just do it so that everyone has no questions about their sexuality or because they like the attention they get for screaming "OMG, girlfriend!" in a crowded room. These are definitely more often the exception rather than the rule though.

Here is an honest question I have for the gay community? How did you know you were gay? I always wondered if gays were born to be gay or if one day they just told themselves i like meatsticks or is it a gradual thing you turn yourself into...enlighten me please.

I've always thought attraction was pretty simple.

Think back to when you were first noticing sex, and what type of people you were attracted to. Was this something you chose? Did you say, "I think I'm gonna be into blond girls with big hips" and then that's what you were attracted to? Or is that just what you noticed.

Straight, gay, bi ... I don't think it's very tough to discover what you're attracted to. You know it when you see it. It's never struck me as a terribly conscious process.

With that being said I first found a physical attraction to women when I was in 3rd grade....Im not saying I would be poppin boners and shit but what I am saying is that women gave me the warm butterfly feeling in my stomach, especially the ones who even acknowledged me..not that i expected anything from it but I was young and it felt good....

So now with that bieng said is it safe to assume that gays were doing the same thing as me except it was of there own gender they were getting these feelings for....and if so. wouldnt at such a young age like myself realizing I have a fetish for the same sex almost seem like it is the wrong thing to do morally........Look, Im not gay by any means but I just find it hard to believe that a child or a young kid can except the fact he is gay when it just seems morally wrong...My parents didnt teach me not to be gay its just not what seems right..In no way am i hating on gays, Im just trying to have a better understanding.....

If it were my conclusion, I would say bieng gay is a choice people make later on in life when they are educated and willing to accept it...I just find it hard to believe there are 7 year old kids running around already knowing that one day they will be smoking pole!!

I don't know if you read my previous post but if you didn't you should, because it answers an important part of your question.

I didn't know at a young age.
I probably didn't figure it out until I was 18/19. Even then I still had doubts.

It isn't an issue of morals, it is an issue of happiness. If being with a guy makes you happy then what is the problem? Is it affecting anyone negatively? No, it's not.

I'm not going to get married and have kids because it's what society and religion deem as being morally correct. I would be unhappy.

IMO sexuality is like an onion. As you peel away every layer you discover something about your sexuality that's new. Whether it's that you like people who are big, small, hairy, smooth, etc. And yes even g/b/t***. What sheds every layer, IMO again, is situational. Maybe you saw a porno, looked at someone's booty, or even mudanely, was treated nicely by a certain person. Who knows. All in all it's a case by case subject. We all can't define what's "morally" right in sexuality. It's human emotion.

Also the rate people realize their sexuality is also situational. I, for instance, didn't know about my sexuality until probably 11-12. It DIDN'T mean I was gonna go and suck on some guy's knob at that very moment, but I knew where my attraction was. As the years went by though I became more educated in my sexuality and finally came out until I was 20-21.

***That's NOT to say that everyone has a "layer" for g/b/t. It's, once again, situational with every person.

Not everyone notices sex/attraction at the same age. You were pretty early, some are much later. You don't have a choice over that either. But even for yourself, are you implying that at 7 you were thinking about eating girls out? The general attraction might have been there early, but the knowledge of what that meant likely didn't come for a long while. Middle school seems to be when people start to wise up on all this.

And as Aether mentioned, development happens as you're introduced to more. It's tough to be attracted to something you've never seen, or don't know exists. I've never met anyone who sat down and chose what they were going to be attracted to, and when. It might be possible (mind over boner?), but I've never heard of it.

I've never really seen the morality in any of this, myself. Just seems like biology, or a combination of genetics and one's environment. The science on all this is iffy, and I'm not well-read on the topic, but I'm not terribly concerned about it. It's never struck me as a big deal either way. As long as folks aren't doing things non-consensual or with kids, I couldn't care less what people are attracted to and why.

...

Why did I bother?

You go from "I realized at age 7 that I liked girls but wasn't about to pop boners and go fuck one"

straight to "but I just find it hard to believe there's 7 year old gay guys running around wanting to suck a dick"

I can't even type a response to you because it makes me so annoyed I can't think straight. Hmm. I wonder why you find it hard to believe.

Btw my nephew is 8 and he got caught getting head from another 8 year old. Which i wouldn't even consider that a gay thing it's more of a thing thing.. kids are kids and they do weird stuff. (and no i've only seen the boy 1 time in my life so its got nothing to do with me)

What is the end game of your argument? what's the goal of your conversation. Cause what you said makes NO sense at all.. you are saying that gay people wait till they are of age and read all the pamphlets sign up for the news letters and go to the meetings for the gay agenda and then make a concious choice that penis is what they will desire from now on.

Does that really make sense to you? Is sexual orientation a lifestyle choice as much as say.. religion is? Really? I can remember having crushes on boys back when i was 9 and 10 years old. But just cause we're gay you'd add to your theory that for kids that young to have any attraction to the same sex at that age they'd have to be thinking about sucking dick.. when you yourself admitted at that age you werent thinking about fucking pussy.

Stop trying to make gay attraction seem so different than straight. It's clear that it grosses some people out much in the same way you probably would be grossed out by young guys that like to bone elderly women .. or fat women.. attraction is what it is and as long as there are consenting adults involved why do you even need to understand it. It is what it is.

do you give that much thought to why people like spicy food vs salty food? Do you really think that hard about why some people enjoy eating food that you consider gross vs people that like the same thing you do?

It is what it is. Keep you mind out of the bedroom and you'd have a lot better time with "understanding gay" but if you cant.. then dont bother trying to understand it. It would just be another thing in life that has eluded you.
