Since I pretty much quit drinking caffiene, I was looking for something else to drink when I wasnt drinking water. Every other thing that doesnt have caffiene seems to have high fructose corn syrup in it. I have heard that that shit is really bad for you but I wasnt for sure. So is it really that bad for you? If it is is there anything out there that doesnt have it, hell even the green tea I bought had it.

Well as far as I know if it's called high fuctose syrup then it probably has high sugar so don't overuse it or you may be at risk becoming a diabetic.
P.S. avoid ALL SODA wheater it's caffiene free or not if you don't wanna mess with the unhealthy shit.

i don't think gatorade and vitamin water have high fructose corn syrup.

There's nothing wrong with it in reasonable amounts. Like almost everything, keep it in moderation and there're no side effects.

Fructose is a sugar, which is converted by your metabolic processes into glycogen (I think) for energy. The stuff your body doesn't use gets stored as fat.

The new white tea says just sugar on it so it should be ok I guess

alot of people try to steer clear of procesed shit because they say it is bad for our bodies. And theyre probably usually right.
high fructose corn syrup has a longer shelf life i think: $$$$$
and i think they way we metabolize fructose is different than glucose (sucrose/table sugar is a disacharide of glucose and fructose). I think fructose is only metabolized in the liver which is the catch all jiont for alot of shit. So a constant influx of fructose will tax your liver a bit.
but the shit is everywhere, what are you going to do? I think it (fructose monosaharide) occurs naturally in a lot of sweet fruits too.

some all natural juice with some B-12 powder. great for a wake up and good health.

alot of fruit juices are naturally chock full of fructose

When you think of the bad things High Fructose Corn Syrup does, the first thing you should know is that it is a processed sweetener with near identical composition to sugar.
Knowing that and from what testings indicate, HFCS has most of the bad qualities that refined sugar has. Some examples:
1) It increases your appetite: you feel hungrier than you actually are.
2) It encourages your body to store food as fat rather than burn it.
3) It has been linked to promote heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and several different types of cancer.
4) Interfere with the absorption and/or production of protein, growth hormones, and various vitamins and minerals.
Trust me, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
I recommend that you consume HFCS, like refined sugar, very sparingly. Personally, I avoid it like the plague. I reserve one day a week where I can have it.
In fact, I wouldn't quit caffeine for that. HFCS is must worse than caffeine. If fact, caffeine by itself isn't really bad at all in moderation.

Remember: they aren't using this shit because it's "safer" than regular cane sugar. They're using it cuz it's WAY cheaper to obtain than cane sugar, fuck what it does the consumers. everything's bad for you, so you have to weigh just what you wanna put in your body.
HFCS has turned me from a skinny kid into the chunkmonster you see before you.
I am trying to reverse that, with more activity, and by switching to drinking mostly water.
when I must have a soft drink (there's no "Must", really, but sometimes I cannot resist), I go for Diet 7up, or Diet Cherry 7up., No Caffeine, and no HFCS.
of course there's enough aspartame to turn a lab rat into a furry white tumor, but like I said, something's gonna get you one way or another.
I'd rather die skinny, than have to be buried in a piano crate.

It's mainly bad for you because it's a sugar. If you ate 20 sugar cubes with every meal, that would be bad. 20 sugar cubes contain about as many empty calories as a 16 oz bottle of Coca-Cola. It's one of the reasons I usually drink just plain water.

I've often wondered why It is called Corn Syrup. It can't really come from corn...

All it will do is make you fat if you drink pop 3 times a day or more. So don't do that, fatty.

Diet Soda is a good alternative.

Plenty of nice tasting diet green tea drinks out there.
Diet sprite I'm fairly sure has neither caffeine or Sugar(corn syrup).

lol get a juicer and make your own juice. That's like the only way to get quality these days without the celebrity prices for organic food.

I've read some pretty bad stuff about high fructose corn syrup. IMO, like some people said, in small quantities its not that bad, but Americans consume so much of i that it is a health risk now. Has anyone actually realized how many products contain this shit?
A health book I was reading to get back in to shape warned against buying too many products with high fructose corn syrup.
anyway here's some itneresint pieces from some articles i found on teh int4rw3b.
Because it is metabolized by the liver, fructose does not cause the pancreas to release insulin the way it normally does. Fructose converts to fat more than any other sugar. This may be one of the reasons Americans continue to get fatter. Fructose raises serum triglycerides significantly. As a left-handed sugar, fructose digestion is very low. For complete internal conversion of fructose into glucose and acetates, it must rob ATP energy stores from the liver.21
High Fructose Corn Syrup
High fructose corn syrup is made by treating corn (which is usually genetically modified corn) with a variety of enzymes, some of which are also genetically modified, to first extract the sugar glucose and then convert some of it into fructose, since fructose tastes sweeter than glucose. The end result is a mixture of 55% fructose and 45% glucose, that is called "high fructose corn syrup." Improvements in production occurred in the 1980's making it cheaper than most other sweeteners. I remember in the 1980's when the price of Pepsi dropped from about $3 for a sixpack to about $1.50. In 1966 refined sugar such as sucrose was the was the leading sweetener / additive. In 2001 corn sweeteners accounted for 55% of the sweetener market. Consumption of high fructose corn syrup went from zero in 1966 to 62.6 pounds per person in 2001. A 12 ounce soda can contain as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup.
Once again, the dangerous combination: fructose and glucose.
When high fructose corn syrup breaks down in the intestine, we once again find near equal amounts of glucose and fructose entering the bloodstream. As covered in recent newsletters, the fructose short-circuits the glycolytic pathway for glucose. This leads to all the problems associated with sucrose. In addition, HFCS seems to be generating a few of its own problems, epidemic obesity being one of them. Fructose does not stimulate insulin production and also fails to increase "leptin" production, a hormone produced by the body's fat cells. Both of these act to turn off the appetite and control body weight. Also, fructose does not suppress ghrelin, a hormone that works to increase hunger. This interesting work is being done by Peter Havel at UC Davis.
Some of the problems associated with high fructose corn syrup:
Increased LDL's (the bad lipoprotein) leading to increasedrisk of heart disease.
Altered Magnesium balance leading to increased osteoporosis.
Increased risk of Adult Onset Diabetes Mellitus.
Fructose has no enzymes or vitamins thus robbing the body ofprecious micro-nutrients.
Fructose interacts with birth control pills and can elevateinsulin levels in women on the pill.
Accelerated aging.
Fructose inhibits copper metabolism leading to a deficiencyof copper, which can cause increased bone fragility, anemia, ischemic heart disease and defective connective tissue formation among others.

Diet Soda, Tea with Splenda or whatever, Fruit2O, diet snapples, diet drinks in general. Yeah they use fake sugar but I'd rather save my calories for deep fried twinkies.

Corn syrup is much worse for you than pure raw sugar.
