Dota is something you'll never play if you haven't already. I never got into it because I didn't care much for custom maps. Then a couple years after everybody was playing it, I wanted to see what it was all about. But you always get insta-banned if you have to download the map, showing you're a noob. Gotta love those games where the community doesn't accept new players. =\

That's cause you're supposed to go to www.dota-allstars.com and download it off the website, not in game genius.

Well they could have told me that instead of kicking me faster than i could say "hi". Or was I just supposed to psychically figure that out? You must have been the type to kick the noobs. Looks like I didn't miss much.

DOTA games usually take around an hour, and is a very team dependent game. If your team is shit, you've just wasted an hour. If you download the map, you're a scrub, so people insta kick you. Trouble is there's enough people playing dota that the community doesn't have to be nice to new players.

Better description of DotA:
A game that is extremely imbalanced because only about 15-20 of the 80 or so Heroes are actually viable for tournament use. Of course, when one of the actually not brain-dead players suggest this be fixed, everyone calls him a noob and says that it SHOULD be like this for some bullshit reason or another. They then spam "GO BACK TO PLAYING -EM NOOOB!!!!!!", which is Easy Mode, a mode actually more balanced than the normal mode, because you don't have to pick spell-spamming intelligence based Heroes in order to win. Of course, the "pros" don't actually want to come up with real strategy besides picking the same 5-10 Heroes for each side and "chaining" their mass area disables together to win, so it never changes. Also, if a Hero ruins every single public game because they are simply extremely cheap and easy to exploit, the elitist fucktards on the forums say that it doesn't matter because they are "noob" Heroes and it would never happen in "real" play. I guess they seem to be under the impression that every single game is played like a "pro" game (which involves awesome and highly thought-out strategy such as killing your own troops), and not only a tiny, tiny fraction of them.
Ok, DotA is fun if you are decently familiar with the game and are just looking to play a quick public game or so. The problem is their community is so elitist and have their heads up their ass so much that they simply can't accept general flaws with the game and thus it will always remain like that.

Hmm gee, now why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, it's practically the same thing that people who don't play/understand fighting games say about high-level fighting game playing.
(Note I do not play DotA, and have no opinion on how it should or shouldn't be played. Just saying.)

This is why I hate MvC2. People only use Sentinel, Magneto and Cable. I mean, seriously, how unbalanced can a single game be? Also, why do the players have to always be so flashy instead of just winning?
(Note I do not play MvC2, and have only heard these random tidbits of information around the forum and I have no idea if they're true or not. Just saying.)

I think for the most part SRK is open to new posters trying to get into fighting games. It isn't welcoming to stupid people(Regardless of your join date). The people here are willing to help you out for the most part, and we are trying to make the community even bigger.
But compared to what VG described like he said,The community is so big it's like"I don't need to teach you anything since there are a 1,000,000 more people out there that can bring more to the table than somebody new".

VG is an idiot. The MVC2 analogy isn't relevant at all. Almost anyone is usable in pubs. A large majority are still usable in inhouse games. It's only when it get's to CAL level that the imba becomes stupid. If you're worried about team disables play ar instead of ap.
Stop crying because you got styled on by pub scrubs.

the DOTA community is not a good one. They have during their existence tried to destroy their own community.
I loved WC3, and played a hell of a lot more customs than the ladder matches. DOTA grew out of AoS games and became the best of its kind (for the time). Then frozen throne came out and they made DOTA allstars, which caused all the problems. I personally didn't like allstars as much, it seemed a little too broken at many of the early releases. It did have a lot more options than the original, so I played them both, and I was one of the few people who did this. The players of one version fucking hated the players of the other. The community tried to kill itself over this stupid shit.
All the good players are assholes, and while the original game would have a team of assholes, several releases of allstars encouraged you to pool money to create one character that was so ungodly broken that he couldn't be stopped. This would lead to that player becoming a huge fucking dick to his own team. I have had countless times that I helped to pool money to a player for a really good item, and then have them turn around and tell me that I wasn't pulling my share of the weight anymore. Well yes I did something to help you make a push and take down a tower before they could compensate, so I'm missing out on a whole lot of gold, but the team is winning. I moved from group to group in the first months of allstars before getting sick of this shit.
I don't think the game is bad. I will still play it when I go to a LAN party, but the fact that we are all in the same room and the knowledge that we will all be playing in the next game with each other as well kept people from being dicks. Tides of Blood was a better game anyway, but we don't have FT installed at the LAN unfortunately.
