Hi,
As a huge fan of UFC/Pride/K1/whatever I decided to do a speech on the evolution of MMA, with a focus on the change in the UFC. I know what I would like to write about it, but since I need a source that isn't video or internet, I figured I could come to SRK to get an "expert opinion" from somebody who is actually out there trying to come up.
As a MMA fighter, I'd like to know what your thought are on the way the UFC has changed since 1993 to now, and what kinds of training one must take up to be competitive as opposed to in the past.
Thanks!

I'm no expert.
The sports seems to be moving forward homogenization*. Everyone must be well rounded and train in Muy Thai and submission fighting.
I don't like the clock as it favors some style over others further minimizing your options. I miss the old day simply because it more interesting to watch but I understand that it had to change.
Sadly the more popular it becomes and the better the fighters get the less likely we are to see just straight up roughneck joining in the fun. Oh well, that's just the way things are now days.
All MMA fighters are great athletes.
EDIT: I think a "Street Fighter" message board probably isn't full of MMA fighters. Just a lot that think they are.
yeah most of anyone who is really on a circuit isn't here and I can garuntee that.
I've done MMA though.I don't train anymore, but I know enough to defend myself well.
Biggest difference overall is the rules that changed and the audience that eventually became interested. Also the spawning of Pride is most directly related to UFC.
Also you can't even Put K1 in a league with UFC and Pride. no way.

I know there is a thread for MMA. I was talking about K1 as just a combat sport... I'm just interested in all of them.
This isn't really about discussing the events, so I thought it would be ok to make a topic. I don't want to clutter up that thread with something off topic. With that in mind, I don't see why a lock is necessary, but if so... that's fine, I'll ask in that thread.
It doesn't really matter if anybody on SRK is a pro or not, just training for it makes you more of an expert than I am.

I've combined 2 karate classes with 4 years of High School Wrestling, some street fighting, and the Scottish Martial art "Fugue".
