"Gumbercules? I LOVE that guy!"
Hedonism Bot was made of pure win. He WAS the show. Bender was second to him. Oh, and Zapp Brannigan.
Hedonism Bot: We shall party like the Greeks of old!
[lowers voice]
Hedonism Bot: You know the ones I mean.
Hedonism Bot: Oh sirrah! A *man* writing an opera about a *woman*? How delightfully absurd!
Hedonism Bot: Ah, Fry, congratulations. Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.
Fry: Thank you, sir. That's exactly what I was going for.
Hedonism Bot: You were the sole diversion in what has been a pale and unamusing season, and so I would fain commission you write an opera.
Fry: But I've never written an opera.
Hedonism Bot: And I've never heard one. Still, if you can keep me amused through the overture I shall consider it a smashing success.
Bender: Shut up and pay attention to me, Bender! Look, I love life and it's pleasures as much as anyone here, except perhaps you, Hedonism Bot. But we need to be shut off! Especially you, Hedonism Bot.
Hedonism Bot: I apologize for nothing!
Leela: Someone should teach you a lesson.
Captain Zapp Brannigan: Well, if it's a lesson in love, watch out. I suffer from a very sexy learning disability. What do I call it, Kif?
Kif Kroker: Ugh..."Sexlexia".

another favorite episode is when Fry digs up his Brothers grave but it was really his nephew's grave. Good story

Some would accuse of ripping off other events, I say it is inspiration and done very well.
I 100000% agree. I think this is my favorite episode. RPD is like "I dont like the ending. I watch cartoons to laugh, not be sad." And I mean, don't we all? But the fact that a cartoon can be so touching says a hell of a lot. A sad cartoon is more of a rare gem, and I guess I appreciate it as such. If that makes sense.
And about it being canceled. I dunno about a million bucks an episode... What I do know is that it had 90% to do with the fact that one Sunday it would come on at 7pm. Then next Sunday, Fox moved it to 7:30pm. Then next Sunday, oops, it wasn't on at all. Instead it came on Monday at 8pm. Then next Monday, oops, missed it, they moved it back to Sunday. Then next Sunday it's on at 8:30pm. Then next week it's not on at all. Then next month is the world series or some sporting event where they cancel Futurama for the month. Then they bring it back Sunday at 7 again.
Point is, it's INSANELY hard to develop a dedicated viewer base when the show can't hold a solid timeslot. Same thing happened with Family Guy. I'd like to think Fox is slapping themselves in the face over the loss of these 2 shows, but hell they are probably too rich to care.

Yeah networks usually do the schedule shuffling when they either want to purposily kill a show or its ratings are already in the can and they are desperately trying to find a place for it. But thats rather ironic because it only contributes to the ratings going down.
Dean Vernon: Whenever a fire alarm is pulled, it's robot house. whenever the campus liquor store is looted, robot house. whenever a human corpse is desecrated...
Bender: Now I can explain that

Bender: Alright everybody who wants a little sunday breakfast......cooked with a little "confidence"

Fox will randomly cancel shows, even if they get OK ratings. That's what happened to Family Guy. That's what the Family Guy creator said- Someone at the network "didn't get" the show, and so it got pulled.
Also like Family Guy, they also dicked around with the timeslot, as they also do with alot of their shows. And yet I'm sure they wonder why they had no super-popular shows for a thousand years before American Idol.

Futurama is, by far, my favorite TV show of all time. I don't know if it's even possible for the 4 new movies to live up to it but here's hoping.
full trailer for bender's big score will be on the fantastic 4: rise of the silver surfer DVD. each movie will be cut into 4 and aired as separate episodes, so we're looking at at least 16 new eps next year.
IMDB has the titles for all four movies up. the next 3 are
# The Beast with a Billion Backs
# Bender's Game
# Into the Wild Green Yonder

I couldn't really hear any difference in the voices, though Hermes sounded a bit weird to me at the beginning.
The movie was pretty good. At first, it seemed like they were trying to put too much in, like give references to a lot of past stuff, so the flow was kinda weird. But it was well worth it. There's lots of extras, too. And I really didn't see the end coming. I recommend it to fans.

Its still a bit confusing. I know that they're making 4 Futurama movies, but I heard they were going to air those as episodes on Comedy Central. Now, I think they're making episodes also... I think. This is from wiki:
When Comedy Central began negotiating for the rights to air Futurama reruns, FOX suggested that there was a possibility of also creating new episodes. Negotiations were already being made with the possibility of creating two or three straight-to-DVD films. When Comedy Central committed to sixteen new episodes, it was decided that four films would be produced.[51] On April 26, 2006, Groening noted in an interview that co-creator David X. Cohen and numerous writers from the original series would be returning to work on the movies.[52] On June 22, 2006, Comedy Central announced that at least 13 new episodes were to be produced. Comedy Central also confirmed that Billy West, Katey Sagal, and John DiMaggio would return for the new episodes, with a 2008 debut planned.[2]
Oh, and there's a math lecture on the DVD. Best Special feature ever? I'll let you know.

Has anybody seen Benders Big Score yet? It's the first new movie, and honestly, it blew me away. The story, the way everything ties into each other. It has all of the original hilarious Futurama humor, only it is accompanied by a brilliant plot and clever twists.
While watching it, a homey feeling returns. The feeling of watching a damn good cartoon. It was easily 10 x better than anything Family Guy or Simpsons have ever put out. They should have put this in theatres, this movie was actually that good.

I figured it out right before it happened, which isn't saying much. It still took me completely by surprise. The part that was funny but kind of a stretch was, "Ahhh, my hair!.... *cough cough* and my larynx!" Still great stuff though.
And in regards to the packaging, I think they did that cardboard slit thing to reduce the environmental impact.
As the studio's first carbon-neutral release, the carbon impact of the production, manufacture and distribution of the Futurama Bender's Big Score DVD was directly assessed and actively reduced. For the unavoidable emissions, the studio used high-quality, verified carbon offsets.

I haven't watched anything they've done recently, though. The 10 years to which I was referring were the ones between seasons 7 and whichever the hell one it was when the show supposedly got funny again (18?).

So, I'm trying to rewatch this with the commentary, but I don't know if they cover this, or if it was in the movie and I missed it:
Where did the bender tattoo originally come from? I know they transferred it from dead lars/fry, but where did that come from?
Septimus Prime
12-06-2007, 02:26 PM
I think...
The tattoo itself comes from its own existence in the past, as Fry essentially gave it to himself via a time loop (much like how he is his own grandfather). So the future really can't be changed at all in this series, and it was just fated to exist.
how many movies have they planned? or was this just it?
There will be 4. (Bender's Big Score • The Beast with a Billion Backs • Bender's Game • Into the Wild Green Yonder)

3 more direct-to-DVD movies, which will be divided each in 4 episodes to form a new season of 16 episodes.

Movie was AWESOME. The funniest part for me was when Al Gore said "Damn! I could have used that $100 to buy ONE. GALLON. OF. GAS." I almost went to tears laughing.
Anyway, about the tat, and the big 'surprise':
I think the people wondering about the tattoo, are wondering where it came from. Not that Fray gave it to himself, or Bender put it on Fry. But WHO created it to begin with? Why was it designed to look like Bender? ..... Anyway, about Fry being Lars. I suspected it pretty early on in the movie. Here's my twisted reasoning: Lars had this crease in his forehead, that I thoguht was originally going to be a third eye lol. Anyway, as it showed Fry getting older with Lelu the narwhal, I noticed a crease had formed on his forehead too. Obviously it was supposed to be a wrinkle, but it was drawn weird IMO and it stuck out like a sore thumb on both Fry and Lars. It didn't look natural like the Professor's wrinkles. So I thought, "hmm, I wonder if Lars is Fry." :wonder: I just hope they don't use this as a cop out to say that Lela has been in love with Fry now. I want to see Fry and Lela actually get together!
And it's weird. I normally don't successfully call things in movies. In fact, I specifically try not to think very far ahead. If I end up predicting something awesome, and it doesn't happen, I'm let down. If I end up calling it, I'm still slightly let down because I'm not as shocked as I would have been. I just try to immerce myself in the movie as deep as possible, and go through whatever the characters are going through.

Wow. I love "small world" moments.
So I was organizing my music, and deleting some old crap I don't care about anymore. I come across the Life Aquatic Soundtrack... I figure I'll make sure there's nothing worth keeping on there before I delete it.
I randomly click on one of the songs, 30th Century Man. It's the same song they play at the end of the Futurama movie! I had just assumed the song was made/written for the Futurama movie, since it talks about shaking hands with Charles De Gaulle and whatnot. Plus, the very title of the song heh.
Brought a smile to my face. Man the Life Aquatic sucked though. :bluu:
EDIT: After doing a bit of research, it turns out some rock singer named Scott Walker wrote the song in 1969. Man I was way off lol.

Benders Game was terrible. I laughed maybe once. What happened to the intelligent, clever humor and memorable dialogue the show had during its original four season run? The characters themselves are like cardboard cutouts now. Cheap sight gags and trying to get people to laugh just because you're making a poor reference to nerd culture does not cut it.

Zapp Brannigan
I thought this one had a lot of good moments, but the story was really absurd to the point I wanted to strangle myself with my pubes. At this point in time, Benders Big Score is easily the best Futurama out of the 3 by lightyears.

Agreed. I haven't seen the third one yet, but the second Futurama movie was so boring and poorly paced it felt a lot longer than it actually was.

The first two were great. They were classic Futurama, pure comedy, then hit you with the emotional slap in the face at the end.

I didn't like the first two simply due to the fact that Fry became an overly depressed and emotional loser. In the series he had his moments of frustration, mostly due to Leelas rejection, but he always remained a fairly optimistic and upbeat guy who loved being in the future. It's part of what made his character fun and cool, and they completely destroyed that in both of the first two films.
that and it was exactly what i'd imagine it'd be ie: lets push every character we had on the show for nostalgia and one off jokes and honestly as someone who refuses to rewatch the dog episode i didnt think the plot was that great

I personally loved the fact that the character was finally moving on. It's what makes Futurama (and the early Simpsons) so great. Futurama is NOT a sitcom. Now that the show is coming to an end, the characters are finally reaching their closure. Keeping them the same until the ending would have been stupid, and I would have actually felt robbed.
The movie in no way ripped off the Fry's Dog scene. The dog ending was just sad, while BBS was bittersweet... with a promise of a better future.

Except that the movies didn't address the ending of the series, in which Leela more or less was acknowledging Frys feelings. At that point Fry and Leela either get together, or Fry straight moves on for real and stops wasting his time. I don't see how the characters were evolved in the movies when Fry is still desperate for Leela, and Leela still barely notices/cares that he likes her.
Those themes were gone over multiple times in the series and actually did evolve as the seasons progressed. By The Devils Hands it was finished. Instead of taking this as a launching point and making the movies interesting in terms of character development, story, or even humor, they act like it never happened and rehash the same theme yet again, the only difference being the utter compromise of Frys character.
Seriously, devoting his life to a fish because it reminded him of Leela? Fry was never that pathetic, he liked Leela, and would go to the wall for her, but she wasn't his reason for existence. The biggest criticism I can level against all the movies so far is they all feel forced. Nothing seems to flow naturally like it did during the series, and it shows.
