Harmonix's Rock Band - Out today!

Got a new bass pedal in the other day. I was surprised because I thought EA was going to ship me an empty box for me to put my pedal in, send it back, then receive a new one after they receive mine. I'm thinking about just keeping these two bass pedals...maybe splice it and make a double bass :tup: but I don't know if they would bill me for not returning the broken one. I mean, they don't have my credit card number, but would they just bill to my address?

With bass pedals, they tend to just send you one and not expect it back. They only seem to want the guitars/drums actually sent back for repair, from what I've gathered on forums.

Also, anybody in socal interested, I found a local coffee shop that is doing Wednesday Night rock band nights. Pretty chill, just hang out and play some rock band (360 version). Going to bring my xbox next week with some DLC songs on it.

got a new guitar within 2 days of ordering. the strum seems tighter, the tone changer is tighter, the frets click nicely and the plastic smellls gooooood.

i was about to get that sick drum mute mod. so i went to guitar last night and found out they didnt have the vic firth drum mutes. as i was walkin around i realized - wtf am i doing, ive got a real guitar, why am i shelling more money out on a fake drum mod.

i think my guitar is defective. it's almost impossible to activate star power or whatever the eff it's called by lifting the guitar. having to find the select button to activate it is a pain in the ass. is this a common problem? should i just send it back?

A guy is selling Rock Band, complete with everything for $125 and he said it's "mint" condition, only used 4 times since Xmas and hasn't touched ever since.

Now, if I do buy it, and something breaks, what can I do to replace it? The thing is, HE DOES NOT CARRY A RECEIPT. Does the receipt matter to have a hardware replaced? Thanks

I've actually graduated from Medium to Hard now on Guitar. I never gave it a shot in any of the GH games because I wasn't able to grow that extra finger, but I'm making do with it. hahah guess RB's Hard actually is dumbed down as opposed to GH's Hard.

None taken. Despite having my right hand's finger super-dexterity from playing Marvel for so long, my left hand never got it. So it's been a struggle trying to train my left hand's fingers to loosen up. I'm digging Hard a lot more. Hopefully I'll be able to get Expert down in a little while.

Honestly, the songs you can destroy on hard, try expert right after. I know for some the notes come faster and they might throw in the dread "green, yellow blue" combo at you and you weren't expecting it.

Im exactly the opposite on guitars. I cannot stand the RB guitar it feels so cheap and light. The guitar hero 3 guitar for 360 just feels so much more sturdy and better.

My favorite songs to sing and play bass at the same time are Roxanne, Mississippi Queen, Buddy Holly, Suffragette City, Creep, Gimme Shelter, Fortunate Son, In Bloom.. probably all in that order. Either I have a buddy hold it up for me or I just prop it up on something, set it on a chair or stool and lean down.. sometimes it looks fuckin stupid when I'm leaning forward cause I have to keep my head up to look at the notes.

Just got drumpads #3. The outer box came a lil scrunched up on one side, and the inner one came with a scrunch on one side, and a rip/hole on the other. As for the drums, they're manageable, but still aren't as fully responsive as my originals were on the blue and green pads. I might just swap pads. ::sigh:: I'm on hold now waiting to speak to someone.

So my friend and I exchanged our Rock Band for another at the store (screw waiting in the mail for this when we had it less then two weeks).

And now I think the drums are messed up. For some reason they seem like they're short-circuiting or something. I'll be playing songs fine and it just won't count my hits sometimes (it'll miss one note at a time but I know I hit it for sure, especially when its two notes at once, I hit both, and it only counts one). Anyone else experience this?

Yea, my red pad was like that. I couldn't do any rolls on the snare and I know I was hitting the notes. I "tape modded" it so that the pad is a bit closer to the contact and it works fine now. I can do rolls and can finally beat Run to the Hills.

My problem with Run To The Hills is that whenever I hit the bass + snare at once, I feel like the game can only register one of them at a time. I always see either the bass note or the snare note pass under and not register. Pisses me off because I can do the song otherwise, but I'm dead before I can past the second chorus. =/

Also...Move Along by All American Rejects is pissing me off. :mad: The drum pattern is actually more difficult than I thought.

That's weird. Have you tried checking it out in practice mode or during fills?

Move Along can be tricky but luckily the bass drum isn't at all. It mostly stays constant so you just gotta tap your foot to the beat and just focus on your hands.

I got drumpad #4 this morning (wasn't expecting it so soon, sent in a request on the 18th I think) and I'm sending back drumpad #2. So now I have 2 working pads, and two good kick pedals. I'm gonna throw drumpad #1 in the garbage because the jack to plug in the pedal isn't working and I lightly knicked up the area around it (plus I don't have the room to store a 3rd set). #4 is like the first set of pads I got and pretty much has a similar issue with rolls on the red and green pads. Both pads are doable, but it's like making a choice - either better roll response, but semi flaky multi-pad hits, or great response all around, but "assisted" red and green rolls.

I'm just done messing with all these pads and whatnot.

I remember thinking about hooking up my Rock Band set to DrumMania on my PC since the MIDI conversion is so easy but then I realized there wasn't enough drum pads to cover all the pads on DrumMania. And then that same guy has a video of him doing a DrumMania song with a pillow as a ride symbal I think, I didn't know you could auto other things besides bass. :looney:

I was able to pass all 3 on hard with 99% first try. I think just because they're so slow, they are pretty easy. Definitely fun though.

edit: Also been making my own beats by hooking up the rock band drums to Garageband with two programs. There's a small delay and the drum pads don't always register, but at a slow tempo you can make some nice stuff.

I also heard that the next new Metallica Album will be released on Rock Band as DLC before anything else. Again it could probably just be a rumor. I'll look for more info and post it up later.

You are correct on the Nirvana and The Who album but you got your Metallica info mixed up.

As of yet an unspecified Metallica album is going to be released. Singles from their new album will debut on Rock Band before anything else.

Also the Oasis pack is cake on Drums. I 5* all of them in the first try, and my sister is apparently Liam Gallagher as she was 99% that shit on Expert.

I love all three songs, but Champagne Supernova would have been the best DLC to date.

I have yet to download any new songs for rock band, been busy with work, girl, and WoW. I haven't even touched my xbox in like 3 weeks after my and my roomies 5-starred all the songs... What should I DL first?

I found Hard a bit easier in RB than GH; expert doesn't seem to change as much, just the speed and some 3 note keys in there. I love the level, not too easy but then again not to insanely hard that you say "fuck it"

All the Guitar songs on Rock Band are insanely easy, especially if you just got done playing a shit load of GH3.

If you're looking for a challenge "Blackened" is pretty hard. And Believe it or not "My Sherona" has a really fun challenging solo.

That's what I was talking about, but that song in particular is making you do both unless you have piano player's fingers. I usually do a halfass pinky slide, moving my hand pinky-first to hammer-on, then doing the index slide to make it back to the top(bottom)fret.

What you can do is go on the EA site and just say your guitar is broken. When they send you a replacement, just don't send yours back. They'll charge you like 20 bucks. (I think, not exactly sure on the price) If it is 20 bucks, that's pretty cheap for a new guitar IMO.

I just downloaded the Oasis pack, god I love the song Wonderwall.... all 3 songs are still extremely easy on Expert guitar tho... Wish it was more of a challenge. But honestly, the Oasis songs are pretty simple IRL so I'm kinda glad it's realistic anyway. LOVE that Live Forever has the 2 guitar solos. It's actually pretty challenging on Drums tho.

The bass in Rock Band, even on expert, is ridiculously easy on every single song so far... If I get under 95% in any song I feel like I failed it.

I don't actually remember all that you needed... I think either a receipt or the credit card you used to buy Rock Band? Or maybe just the warranty number, I don't recall atm. I DO know that you need to make an EA account. (free) here's the link for you:

As of right now EA doesn't make seperate Rock band instruments for retail so if you want a second guitar you're either gonna have to use the Guitar Hero one or the method I described above.

On an interesting sidenote, you're supposed to get your new instrument within 2-3 days of ordering it. Mine took 8 days to get to me, so EA apologized and offered me my choice of like, 8 different, completely FREE X-Box 360 EA games. I just got Command and Conquer 3 in the mail like 4 days ago, haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet, but hey, free game lol.

Also, the GH3 controller doesn't work in Rock Band... though I'm guessing you were referring to GH2 since you have the 360. Just wanted to make sure AW knew.

Basically you fill out your personal info like name address, email and stuff like that. You have 2 options of getting a replacement guitar you can either check the option to have them mail you a box so you can ship your guitar to them and they will ship it to you as soon as they get it, this requires no credit card information.

Or you can have them ship a new guitar to you immediately and then you have the option to mail your old guitar back to them. This option requires credit card info because they will charge your card if you dont mail a gutiar back.

I dont know how much they charge for PS3 owners but if you dont mail the guitar back by a certain time they will charge your card $120.00. Thats what they said when I mailed back my faulty Guitar for the 360. I dont see why this would be any different for Ps3 owners but I could be wrong. I know its not just $20 though.

Well like I said It could be cheaper for PS3 owners but I know when I did it for my 360 version they said $120.

It sucks that the PS3 owners are getting shafted when it comes to compatability with 3rd party guitars. I just checked harmonix website and they still dont have any new info on when they are going to release a patch to make the Les Paul guitars compatible. All I know is that supposedly its in the works.


Edit - To the post below you could be right. I did my replacement in December so I cant remember the exact price. All I know is that it is not just $20. Otherwise I would quit my job and sell fake Video game gutars for a living. :rofl:

If you just use a regular splitter, one bass pedal won't function when the other is pressed down. This is because the circuit will be closed when the magnets in the pedal touch. So you'll either have to never hold your foot down on the bass pedal throughout the song, or some people have rigged up their electronic drum set bass pedals to the rock band drum set. A simple youtube search will show you some examples.:tup:

hey, i'm having a problem and am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.
i use the GH3 wireless xbox 360 guitar for rock band and when i hold down red and green at the same time it hits yellow as well.

for example, during a finale i'll hold red and green but it will show red and yellow alternating.
this doesn't happen in guitar hero and only happens with the GH controller. i haven't tried it with another GH controller because i don't have any so i am wondering if i should just buy a new one or open up the neck and see if there is anything weird.

it really sucks because i can't hit any R+G chords anymore.

Ya I just figured out this works earlier today and its alot easier, both to keep the beat and on your leg. It hurts like hell to hover after like 2 or 3 songs.

Except for the first part of the song where you hit Green/Red a lot. you can just keep your hands placed on the last four frets, without worrying too much about hitting green a lot. You wont fail immeditely if you miss all the green notes from the rest of the song.

Also if you can, try to save your star power until after the solo.

To activate Overdrive while singing, there's a special yellow-ish background that scrolls along that you have to ad-lib a word into. I usually just yell WHOOOO or something or carry the previous word into it loudly. Can't really explain it well. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

I think they sell separate guitars now. Saw a commercial for it the other day.

Separate guitars are on sale now....wireless version of the Strat. It's gotten mixed reviews, don't know myself since I haven't tried it. You could also use the Les Paul or Xplorer from Guitar Hero as well if that doesn't appeal.

My regular drummer always makes me play Hysteria on bass. Then I have to rest :wasted: How many actual strums are necessary in the song? I know the majority of it is HOPO but it's going too fast for me to see if I actually need to strum after the first note. I usually hit around 97%

Yes. DL'ed songs don't have to be "unlocked" so once they DL them, anyone can play them.
