Well to many that know by now there was a massacre at VA Tech this past week. In many retrospects videogames are at many times being used by politicians, talk show hosts etc. alike. They say videogame violence is the reason these kids are going out there and doing these wrongs because of it. The first questions they ask is why and then these political leehes have to put blame on something so what do they blame it on....VIDEO GAMES
Well enough is enough Empire Arcadia Inc. along with many gamers all over from all walks of life will be gathering at Byrant Park to voice our opinions, our thoughts, our concern are views on what these poilitical leehes are refering that these mass murders by younger generations which are deplicted and emulated through videogames and instead of the responsibility to find find a solution to these problems at the jump, they want to gear at games as the problem of tragedies in our society today. Well guess what its been going on too long and we as gamers are gonna take a stand and fight these ridiculous slanders and scapegoats.
Heres a link to the event:
http://empirearcadia.com/community/com-104.htm
We encourage everyone thats a gamer to come out and support! Media will be there to get the event/rally to hear what we have to say about all this.
Edit also the myspace version:http://events.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=events.detail&eventID=326388.19752&Mytoken=93DF3590-CBC1-4DE5-A6E6096D1F1B86AF72857071

Good idea  wish I could go
One thing though: Make sure the people are ok...all it takes is one FPS freak who decides he's bringing a gun or a dumbass otaku/rpg freak going as cloud with a sword to shot this all to hell and make matters worse/

Hmm. When I originally heard about Dr. Phil blaming it on VGs, I thought he was saying they were the problem.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that he said when mixed with psychotic people.
Dumb about it? Yeah. Jack Thompson Level tard? No.

Well thats the thing unless your being sarcastic about that statement, that is the exact stereotype that we are voicing against. Theres gonna be games there, an event and a peaceful sociable gathering with a host of gamers and celeberty gamers as well.

Yes Jack Thompson is definetly on the not liked card. On the same token who's to say that people that are psychotic arent getting this from games? There are many outlets in society that can be a contributing factor to psychoticness, whether it be the home, childhood trauma, whatever. The problem here is he's ONLY implying that videogames amongst the many things are a factor!

See to what many here dont know is that Triforce is known on a media level. Media will be there and they are full aware who Triforce is. The guy with the powerglove that was the first person in the EC to get a Wii. Aside from that him wearing his powerglove doesnt have anything to do with what is the real task at hand and thats our voice. It doesnt matter who takes him seriously or not words and action mean more than anything.

Yea, but that was related to buying a video game system. And it was a Nintendo system, so everyone probably thought it was cool/funny. Like the dude who was dressed up as link or something, or the first dude in line at some Hollywood store who calls himself Gamejew (from screwattack.com) and dresses up like Mario.
This is something different. This is a political statement. If TFGM goes around calling himself that and wearing a powerglove, it will do no good because it gives them more reason to relate video games to abnormal behavior. He has a name like Triforce Game Master and wears a powerglove, people will assume from that obviously he thinks he's in a fucking nintendo game or playing one all the time.
That's the biggest issue I would have if he was wearing that shit around. T-shirts are t-shirts, but keeping a NES pad strapped to your belt and wearing a powerglove? People gonna think you think you're Captain N.

I think this is a good idea, and look forward to reading about the event (NYC is a bit of a drive from Arizona)
But if you want a lot of people to take this seriously, you should fix all the typos in that page, like spelling mourn "morn" and using worst instead of worse, as well as all the run on sentences. People already think of gamers as being illiterate and unprofessional. Why propagate another gamer stereotype?
Want me to proofread it for you?
...seriously.

Yeah I read that this morning too.
The more we find out about this Cho, the more we found out how far beyond fubar he was. This kid was LOST. Even though he was pulling some decent or better grades (I'm assuming so since he was a senior) he didn't need to be in college. He needed to be at ward getting help.
And I haven't heard one mention, not ONE, from journalists and filed reports that videogames help push him to commit this crime.

I didn't know this thread became the "Official Proofreaders Thread". Cut the guy some slack, at least they're doing something. It may not be perfect, but no one is.
Props to them for actually taking a stand. After all these years and ignoring the issue, someone is finally taking a stand. The only thing they should worry about is appearance. The post on empirearcadia.com is just an ad for the gathering/rally. That's all it is. They weren't looking to win the Pulitzer prize with this.

Actually, if you write something like that you're trying to garner attention from anyone and everyone you can. I'm sure that article has been linked to outside of the EA site and SRK and other gaming forums. Otherwise how would people know about it? Sure, you can tell them, but people are going to want to see some kind of proof or something in writing, and I think that's what this is.
So yea, they really should care about it. Your grammar and ability to use the english language is indeed part of your appearance afterall. I'm glad that they're doing something as well, but you really need to make sure shit like that is in order. Especially if it's signed by the person running the event/the leader of said organization.

I think its a good idea, as long as its kept in good respect. The minute the media catches eye of a few people getting out of hand, or just looking like a joke, it could turn into shit.

Are we really knitpicking at things. It seems like anytime someone wants to or is doing something positive theres always someone out there to want and tact on the litle things. Grammar and ability to use the english language has nothing to do with appearance at all. If people, spaonsors, media etc. cared about punctual gramar and such they wouldnt even bother right? but they are and will be covering the event so obviously those things DONT matter to them. If theres one thing that does matter though and yes that is appearance and how we present ourselves, both in our actions and our words. They will see that gamers are sociable people in an sociable enviroment and whatever questions asked by the media will be given an appropriate comment statement. etc. to reflect that yes gamers are than what meets the eye and gamers are intellegent and that gamers can tackle political leeches when it comes to matters concerning them.
If gramar and typo's on an article was such an issue then media outlets like MTV and gaming and community advocates like ECA wouldnt waste theyre time coming period!
Besides there's a lot more to this than what many people think. There are a lot of organizations that have been calling us that want to come together and help out. They even know that TriForce will have the power glove and yet they still want to help. I over heard TriForce speaking about changing his entire attitude so that he does as little damage as possible to gamers. Trust me I've seen him go from gamer to politican, to ghetto and back. He understands whats on the line.

Good shit, JeRon.
However I will say one thing...make sure everyone with you is civil about this and be careful about what you say to anyone from the media.
The media only paints in broad strokes and makes their money from sensationalizing.
Don't give them anything that would allow them to paint the group as stereotypical "angry and out of touch" gamers.

Hey, don't get me wrong man. I'm supporting the cause. I might even drop by since I live in CT and it's on a weekend. I've been meaning to go to NYC for a while now. Drop by and take some photos and such as long as it's nice out.
I just don't want this to get ridiculed/mocked because of some people not knowing about what triforce does and the whole TFGM schtick. I really don't want to see this hurt the community. Thats why I said what I said.
But just because some people think one thing doesn't mean others won't think another. I'm sure you will have some uninvited guests there with nothing on their agenda other than to point out the flaws or make jokes about certain things. If they have any pull, any and all outlandish or strange things will be made note of and published in a negative way.
Just be careful because I know triforce does some crazy things sometimes.

I worry about the spectators more than anything. I've been to more than one protest, and all it takes is ONE person who'll do anything to get on TV to ruin it. Like a anti-war rally last year that some jerkoff came to and acted like "one of us" and used as much immature mud-throwing and profanity as possible. And now rallies are banned furthermore from the park.....
Be very wary. Get at least 10 people on crowd control, I suggest. And dedicate at least another ten to media. Make sure each of these people know their shit, have some charisma, and can talk louder than the crowd.

Shiki: Yeah thats to go without say. The media will listen closley to anything you say and if its the wrong thing or something that they can hook you on to bring up controversy they will do it. Im aware of that. Thanks btw!

Thats good your showing concern and are concerned about these things and I would be lying to you if I said I wasnt concerned about things either but rest assured, I've known Triforce for over 12 years. I know him both on an personal and buisness level and trust me when i say yes he can joke around and say things that people dont agree on when talking about ....whatever, random stuff but when it comes down to buisness he changes into a completely different person and when that camera comes on him he already knows how hes gonna approach the matter preemtivley so just like many times before I have faith that he'll approach this as such.

This was the wrong year for Politicians to pick on gamers because we are not going to take this any longer. I know that many of you worry about us messing it up but don't worry about it because we have support from the industry. Plus the media seems to be supporting us.
