In the 80's in both live action and animation, there were a lot of cool cars with awesome powers/abilites.

which ones are your faves?

The Batmobile because you can make it come to you by remote control. No longer will you go to the mall or a baseball game and try to remember where you parked.

Kaneda's Motorcyle from Akira, though I think Suzuki is currently developing a bike that might make that one a reality...

Of those choices, it's definitely Dr. Claw's MAD mobile. There was a toy of this, but I never got it, and now it's just about impossible to get. I would kill for a real life MAD mobile.

However, I think Christine from the Stephen King movie is the greatest. It was alive, and could regenerate, plus it still looked like a normal car. So, there was never any need to worry about fender benders or other accidents. Christine always fixes herself back to perfect condition....she will also kill for you.

There's also the "Cursor" from Automan, but most people here don't know anything about that, heh. That's real old school tv, folks. Cursor could transform, and make perfect 90 degree turns at full speed, completely unhindered by the rules of physics, apparently....as it appeared to be made of light(?). It was a digital object made real, like Automan himself. This reminds me....Automan would be incredible if done with today's level of special effects.

KITT
in what other car could i be high/drunk in and not worry about crashing while doing slow motion jumps over dirt ramps?

and for fun, what about Optimus?

BBCampbell

Yes, the Autobots (and Stunticons for that matter) are severely underrepresented here.

Nah man you can't ride in any Transformer including Optimus Prime. If something happens and he has to transform on the spot he will grind your entire body into a bloody pulp. I'm sorry but being squished to death by the Matrix is not the way I want to go...

Down side to owning Christine is that you can never ever have a girlfriend or it will kill both of you in a jealous rage plus it will possess your soul, but yeah, that self regeneration thing is cool as hell.

Automan was the shit! Nobody knows about that show because I don't think it even lasted a full season.

What about the motorcycle from Nighthawk? Another relatively unknown show that featured a motorcycle version of KITT, but I don't think it talked though.

Don't sleep on the Spider-Mobile. That joint could drive up walls. Tired of waiting for an elevator or have to go to an apartment that has a lot of stairs? Drive up the building, park that sucker on the building and walk into the window or fire escape. BTW Spider-Man / Peter Parker never got a drivers license so you don't have to deal with that driver's test, insurance or any of that other crap. Yeah you still gotta worry about some crazy scientist taking it over and trying to drive you down but worse than that you still gotta pay for gas but what can you do...

Kaneda's bike ftw. I'd heard back in the early 90s that Yamaha was actually thinking of producing this, if only as a concept. Did that ever happen or was somebody just bullshitting me?

And you have to include the vehicles from M.A.S.K. in a thread like this. Wrangler>>>speedboat and crotch rocket>>>helicopter, Bond hardly had shit on toys like those.

And yeah, Cyclone bikes from Robotech Invid arc....I woulda killed people for one back then.

when I was 9, I saw the 1989 Batmobile.

it changed my life.

because I scuffed the damn thing.

because I wanted to see inside.

also the list is fail, because Ecto 1 and Doc Brown's Delorean aren't listed.

It was a digital object made real, like Automan himself. This reminds me....Automan would be incredible if done with today's level of special effects.
...Automan was one of my favorite shows. :lovin: I remember Cursor fondly. Pity the show didn't last too long. But yeah, if they were to remake it now, it would blow a lot of shows out of the water. I may have grown up watching a lot of KITT, who would've been more badass if he'd whined less, but I think Cursor would own him.

Edit: Heh, found the intro to Automan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQb1ZD9W8_c) on Youtube. Sit back and enjoy the cheese.

I also nominate the StarCar from The Last Starfighter. God, that thing was hot.

The problem with me and the Gadgetmobile is that on that show Gadgets always malfunction at the wrong time and I don't want to accidentally run Guy and Haggar over because that car transformed into the wrong thing at the wrong time. What? Both the Inspector Gadget cartoon and Final Fight take place in Metro City...

On the plus side if it's the Gadgetmobile from the movie it will be lots of fun to hear D.L. Hughley's voice in the morning when I drive to work instead of a morning radio shock jock. On the other hand he'll probably spend most of the time making fun of my clothes ruining the rest of my day. Acid wash jeans are making a comeback mark my words!
