Anyone else excited for this game. It's a new game by Arc Systems, the people behind Guilty Gear. I love Guilty Gear and this game looks great too. It's 2.5d, 3d characters but still 2d. Its going to be in 720p too. It just came out in March in arcades so who knows when we'll get to play it. It's hard to find good info about this game though.

I heard this game is currently in beta testing.

The system looks promising... looks like a new non-chain heavy fighting game, with some sort of parry mechanic included that is different from 3s (you can whiff parries). Also, the character design looks nice, love the look of the chainsaw-blade weilding dude.

This game looks sweet for a 2D fighter using 3d models. This is really good thing too since there getting to test there new 3d engine before they release the next guilty gear which is allegedly to be 3D.

The game looks like it will play kind of more like a Capcom fighter at this point. There's parries (with wiff animations though thankfully), throw breaks, tech rolling, canceling specials to supers, and generally the chain system seems less beginner friendly than GG/HnK style games. Most character don't have an airdash but it seems Coyori (the catgirl maid) does.

System seems very similar to 3s - I'll probably use Ashley as well as Coyori when I eventually get to play it...maybe even Death Bringer, even though I don't really like characters that move too slow.

A-cho is pretty close to me. I'll be going there next weekend then to play some Battle Fantasia. Most likely, i'll use either Olivia or maid girl. If i like it, the post i make about it after that will be long, if i dont like it, it'll be short.

Most likely, i'll also be playing Arcana Heart a lot that day, so its not gonna be as complex as my Arcana one or my Big Bang Beat writeup, but itll be good, hopefully.

So i got to play this yesterday, tho i didnt get to play much.

There's 5 buttons:
A C E
B D

A - LP
C - HP
B - LK
D - HK
E - Parry

Pretty straightforward. The movelist is very easy, too. 236, 214, 623, etc. Supers are 236236 generally, or that sort of thing.

Parry was just tapping E when an attack would hit you. Like 3S but with a button instead of tapping forward. In addition, if you tapped 6E and parried something, you would forward really fast and knock into your opponent sending them in the air for you to get a free air combo or juggle.

Throws are A+C. Throw breaks are A+C.

If you press A+B or B+D at the same time (i dont really know the conditions) then you can unleash your "overdrive"-esque move. Face allows him to shoot his gun from far away and combo with them. Marco calls a giant dragon to either breath fire at you or dash at you. Olivia calls a buncha like, butterflies or birds or something that hit the opponent. Interesting.

Anyways, i didnt get to play it much for three main reasons:
1) There was only one machine
2) There were a lot of people on the machine the ENTIRE time, even until we left
3) Anytime anyone was playing it, it was pretty much one guy with a huge winstreak beating people who had no idea how to play the game.

The first guy used Face and got like, 3 winstreaks over 30. Second guy used the hellraiser guy or whatever, and the last guy used Marco, the little kid.

I used Olivia aka Flag Girl the entire time pretty much (tried cat waitress once, but didnt like her) She didnt have any projectiles. The thing about this game is that its links, and NOT chains. So my biggest combos were:
j.C 214214C (214214C is just a super that, if it hits the opponent, goes into some animation of her hitting the opponent and then its done)
2C 236C

Yeah needless to say, i didnt really figure out a lot cause like, i couldnt link my 2A into 5C or anything like that, so i couldnt really do any damage. The opponent, having huge winstreaks all knew stuff, so my effort was pretty much futile. Im sitting there trying to figure out moves and what does what, and before i know it, half my life is gone. Thinking about going back sometime in the next couple weeks to play when i dont think people will be there, but like, at the same time, im leaving so soon that its prolly not even worth it and the time is better devoted to another game.

But yeah, game looks neat. Graphics are really cool. Seems very fireball spammy, but you have the parry button for that. You cant air block, so anytime i would jump, its pretty much a DP in the face. Only a few characters have air dashes, too. The bunny and the cat maid girl do, but thats all i know of.

As far as the "new" fighters go, i heavily prefer big bang beat and arcana over battle fantasia. But hey, if it comes to console, i'll most likely pick it up cause it was fun, but i just wasnt able to really play it and figure out anything...

The Nakano arcade just installed the machine today, and I got a good 2 hours on it today. My take on it: It has a very old-school feeling to it, very much like the capcom days of old (sf2, darkstalkers-ish).

I spent most of my time with Ashley, with everybody else either picking the big guy (death bringer?), Harry Potter, or CareBear. I did OK, but had major problems with DeathBringer. CareBear had an awesome chain that involved the bear trap, the delayed projectile, and the raining super. Sorry to get all "impossible to understand" on everybody, but overall, it was a great game, and I had a great time. I look forward to playing this more. I just hope that bastard HeartNana doesn't get a chance to play...oh wait. There's no Moe character, so I doubt this game will keep his interest.

BF does have chains; it's just that each character has very few. This is another area where it's similar to third strike.

There's no Moe character, so I doubt this game will keep his interest.

Coyori looks pretty fun, lots of mixups and crossups. Ashley just seems like kind of a snooze fest to me but I'm not sure why. Watson looks really really good right now and almost looks like he has unblockable setups already (Bear traps are low hits it seems). Hopefully more vids soon as none of these guys were ones I was really all that interested in.

I think the main problem I have with this game right now is that it's very low damage. I think that's probably because people aren't using supers as well as they should be though, so that will hopefully go away.

It's funny how much this game parallels Akatsuki.

Well the game just came out...

It seems watson is not a damage charater but has lot of juggles in corner and gimmicks.

It may seem slow cause people dont really know what there completly doing yet. The fact that there are only 3 vids right now should explain that. Im not saying anything about tier or overall play till i see more or play it myslef.

Ashley does look boring but i "think" she has far more moves then that and i saw some nice combos and grabs.

PS3 games aren't regionally locked. So if the game (or any 2D game for that matter) is on PS3 in Japan then it should work on a NA PS3. If that's what you were even saying...

Actually, PS3 games are region free. It's just PS2 games that are region-locked. So, if Battle Fantasia is J-PS3 only, you will be able to import and play it on your US PS3.

Yeah Cedric has Trick Devotion charge 28 A or C. Fake flash kick or something.

Donvalve has Catapult Hammer Brake 41236+B then A or C. Analogous to Potemikin's whateveritscalled brake I guess.

Donvalve also has Hip D. Don 214 + B or D. A butt attack, maybe?

Extra joystick spinning makes Donvalve's FAB do more damage.

I'll add these in the next version. On a Japanese thread someone posted a follow-up command to DeathBringer's DP move but neither Arcadia nor the official site has it... I think the poster was just confused about the powered up version.

Well, I just got back from playing this more. I've got my Ashley strategy down, but I still have mucho problemos with Watson and his corner trap. Once he gets into the flow of things, it's pretty unstopable. Parry high: Bear Trap. Block low:jump in bear trap. Reminds me of Pre-Full Konoha from Arcana. I shall press on to find the solution to this problem.

Bear Trap is not a low hit AFAIK. I've watched Coyori block it high so I don't see what is causing so much issue there.

Tricky thing is that he can use them as very good Oki and then mixup easily for a good combo and reset it all again. Next time you get a chance, give it a try so I can get a definitive answer on it. Also try and see if the super version is a low hit or not, if you can.

Regardless, Watson seems to definitely be one of the strongest simply because he has a very effective Okizemi game and has strong combos to go with it. He's quite Millia like in usage it seems.

I'm also not sure what is up with those bubbles, I don't see people ever block them so I'm wondering what is up with those.

Arcsys is also notorious for leaving in tons of bugs in their games on purpose, and also making 1-2 characters intensionally broken.

Don having so much HP is kind of ridiculous considering the game isn't exactly a high damage game to begin with.

yeah see, i think they would have done something like this at least. he would probably have some sort of 50/50 on wakeup period with oki throw if they only have 1 reversal option. leaving bugs that help the game in is one thing, yeah, but making don near unbeatable is another :/ hopefully the game is still fairly balanced.

If this game develops anything like other Arc fighters, everyone will end up stupid in the long run so it won't really matter. Don's command throw will probably be small potatoes in the long run.

I'm really liking the flow/pace of the game now ... it's not very high damage, BUT the mixups come very fast and there are a lot of them. Lots of interesting crossup material.

The DB player wasn't very good unfortunately. He kept missing his target combo which would have helped a LOT. Every time you saw him hit a 2A and nothing after it, he was trying to do a link combo and missed it. He also didn't use any of his super bar, for Heat Up or Super. He also didn't manage to Gatchi out of stuff at all. I expect DB will do just fine in the long run, this player was probably either new or just needs a bit more practice.

I think it's a glitch related to the combination of the Gatchi Drive and the Heat Up. I can't tell if there's something else to it or not though. Normally there is a cap on the number of hits in a combo before they simply become 'unhittable' (you can tell by their portrait changing colors) and fall to the ground.


Supposedly one of the benefits of the Type X is that it's easy to put out revisions for. Of course they said similar things about the Atomis and nothing ever came of that.

I wouldn't doubt if a bunch of the cast could do the same Upper Gatchi Heat infinite since it doesn't look like anything Ashley specific. Fortunately it seems upper gatchi into the corner with a super bar isn't exactly a very common setup.

1) Throw has a 3 frame execution (Means it's really fast)
2) Throw escape is effective in the first 8 frames
3) During recovery of moves you can't throw escape
4) After throw escape it's 50/50
5) You can throw escape from crouching.

Gachi match = 3rd strike's parry so...

For mid range footsie you have:
long range attack > step in throw > gachi match > long range attack

For close range footsie you have
weak attack to hit confirm > throw > gachi match > weak attack

There's a new glitch with Donvalve. Grab with Don Swing right before a time out. Spin spin spin as time runs out. The game will be sped up the next round and a whole bunch of weird shit happens. Fix with another Don Swing.

Oh re: that earlier Ashley glitch: if Ashley trades with Romance Wing (that Heat Up flying attack) he'll disappear for the rest of the round.

The new GX vids are pretty good. Finally one of Urs ... losing badly. They do confirm at least one thing though... Watson is gay as hell. He's like sticking Millia into Third Strike, almost verbatim. Combos = #R Millia, Bear Traps = Discs, Water Bubbles = Orb, Air Rolly Ball = Bad Moon. Even if he misses a mixup, he's still at mega advantage, and it looks practically impossible to parry out of. Oh, plus the fact that he's short as hell too, a lot of stuff just doesn't hit him. I'd honestly be surprised if Face could hit him with the Bazooka if he just stood there. And hey, that's not even getting into his Heat Up.

About the Ashley comment, exactly what I thought... it's not like he combos into it all the time.

I really like Freed's design. He can combo into his charge moves, super from the charge moves and his Heat Up looks simply awesome. I especially liked the cancelled charged move into a long range sweep. ''Magnum!!!''

I'm just taking an educated guess, but I'm pretty sure they're doing the aerial version of the wing dash, which is probably an overhead. Most players seem to be activating heat up and doing an instant downward air wing dash (hits high) or standing kick (hits low) as a basic 50/50 mix up that leads to the repeated dash juggles we've been seeing. On occasion they use some strange command throw as well, which also leads to juggles (which looks like it may only grab standing characters, similar to Alex's F,D,DF + P command grab in 3s). Since the overhead wing dash is such a fast and prominent option though, it seems like it's no trouble at all getting players to stand up if that is the case.

Vids of Olivia, Odile, and Marco up on nohoho's blog now. Seems like most of the cast is doing alright against Donvalve despite him being silly good.

Odile seems to actually be a unique character which is cool.

There are a bunch more videos on nico video. Rank Face beasting. (<- wow that looks strange. heh player name = rank) More Urs, Marco. Action looks more like what one would have speculated it would in the early days: 3s pacing plus big gachi drive/heat up combos. Pretty cool.

No news so far. Wish the Type X was cheaper, we'd probably have the game by now if it was. :/

Speaking of which, is it possible to upgrade between the different TypeX versions? And they are backwards compatible I assume right?

Someone was selling one super cheap a while ago, but it was the original version, not the one that can play BF.

I got to play it for the first time, and it was fun. Not a bad effort.
