You heard it here first.... I was chatting with with an Evo tournament director and he says that Dark Prince is banned from all Evo tournament series event. The reason is he's poses as a threat the fighting game community. They're taking precautious on this issue. Personaly Safety come first.

The reason is because he threatened someone on this board with physical violence.

Not for nothing, but he's done a lot more for Marvel than you have. Think about it: The dude was a hype machine. I don't even play Marvel AT ALL and I was still feeling the heat. He made it fun. The trash talk was funny as heck, and while I'm more partial to seeing games like 3S being played, I have to confess that these recent videos and matches really made me sit down and actually enjoy Marvel, which is a game I usually pay little to no attention to.

But the physical threat parts are what ruined the whole thing. It wasn't the smoke. It wasn't the "this guy sucks so bad, and this guy is really fat and sweats while he plays the game." That stuff was fine, even if it was completely nerdy, childish, etc. The absurdity of it all made it really entertaining, and makes you salivate for a MvC2 match to "settle" things.

But then people look into the camera talking about UFC this, come packing that, don't mess with my boy this, and the whole thing comes crashing. Even DP didn't say the words himself, it's his personality that's driving it. Otherwise, half of those guys probably wouldn't have much a reason to mouth off the way they did. You can't run an event where people aren't just insulting each other, but also making direct warnings about watching their back. Even if nothing would happen. Can't have a major tournament event "backing" that kind of thing. Even if it is all a joke.

Again, what happens if you host a major tournament and allow it to represent some of the extra baggage that went along with the "hype." Also, imagine, in an unlikely worst case scenario, what would happen if something actually "happened?'

With me and my staff having to save him from the beat down that was about to happen just because he couldn't stop talking shit to everyone while he was at FR8. I shouldn't have to break up anything during the tournament. I'm too busy worried about making sure everything is running smoothly I don't have time for that type of bullshit. I would hope after that event at FR8 he would have learned his lesson as he sat outside crying his eyes out because he was so scared. B) If I was him and his crew, I'd still plan a Vegas vacation that weekend anyways. All the matches they want to do can still take place. I think aside from Sanford/Duc last year almost all the big money matches took place out of the Evo hall.

Honestly, this was a very smart decision by the SRK staff. Not only do they sponsors to deal with, but also the hotel casino. If something were to happen, SRK could have some serious legal and liability issues if it was proved that they had prior knowledge (aka, the threat video) and did not do anything to prevent said incident from occuring.

I don't really hold, Duc Jr. in a high pedestal morally, but his gimmicks have revatilized WC marvel somewhat.

With all that said and done, there is a clear line you don't cross and that is physical threats. Aka, what Sanford said to me. But even sanford has the common sense to make those threats privately. Not only did they post the threats, which can be argued for negligence (my cousin was using my computer), they put their faces on youtube.

If Wigfall wanted to, Mike Chaos can be in jail right now. But that's just not Wiggy's style. Real talk.

When it's all said and done, Duc Jr. has no place at Evo. I am not being sarcastic here. I do feel safer and will be able to enjoy Evo a lot more now that I know he's not going to be there. But I also strongly believe Mike Chaos should be banned at Evo. Unlike the rest of the people in multiple videos, he explicitly made threats of bodily harm.


Evo will be pretty good this year. With posters of Duc Jr. and Mike Chaos posted up everywhere in the casino. "If you see either of these people, contact security immediately."


It would have been fun seeing the big money matches, but if it's over those few moments of hype versus being afraid for our safety over a videogame, then the choice to ban Duc Jr. was a very easy one to make.

People might criticize the mods at SRK for their decision, but I commend them for their valor and ability to step up to make the right decision, no matter how hard that choice may be. In this case, the decision was not that difficult.

Again, I honestly believe Mike Chaos should be banned also. He threatened Yipes and Wigfall, and since Duc Jr. is already banned, it's not really that big of a deal to ban his bodyguard. Why leave anything to chance.

I understand what and why it happend without seeing or reading what the latest drama was with duc jr. He came to FR8 and nearly got his ass whooped by a group of people. With me and my staff having to save him from the beat down that was about to happen just because he couldn't stop talking shit to everyone while he was at FR8. I shouldn't have to break up anything during the tournament. I'm too busy worried about making sure everything is running smoothly I don't have time for that type of bullshit. But I guess some people don't learn unless you take something from them. In my 10 years of running FinalRound I never had any problem's/drama at any (FR) until Duc Jr. came to my event. Just because someone is good at a videogame doesn't give them the right to attend EVO if they threaten people with violence. IMO I don't think duc jr. would act on these threats, but the pack/pose/followers/dickriders would start something and a brawl could follow. This is the quickest way to lose sponsership IMO. There's always room for some good shit talking, but when you get on the personal side of the shit talking/threaten people you cross the line IMO.

Come on. Banning him is yet another backstabbing on the Marvel community. Sometimes I feel Wizard and the others have a secret plan to sabotage Marvel or whatever.

Easy fix. Hire ONE security guy to be with Dark Prince at all times, if DP agrees to pay for the security guy. DP can go to Evo (he will pay like 50 extra bucks for the Evo staff to hire the extra security guy, but he always says that money is no problema to him), all the money matches can happen and event will be hyped again. MvC2 is, again, the hope of a great Evo, and if you ban DP you're getting 80% of the hype out.

More than this, there were gazillion threats between gazillion players every Evo. I think DP is the worthless piece of sh*t in the community. Yet, its elitist o ban him when there are so many easy solutions for it (asides from the fact that the 40 pounds kid is not doing anything).

Mike Chaos made many more threats and nobody bothered to ban him. And he is completely useless for the community, asides from the fact that some people may want to see Raishinken submit him or some other sidebet at the hotel...

Heck, Mike Watson almost got into a fight with Eddie Lee in the US vs Japan tourney (!!!), Sanford wants it with Bill, DXP wanted everybody, even Viscant was faking to be a physical threat a while ago.

If you start doing preemptive strikes against players that may or may not be agressive one day Evo will lose a significant portion of its top players. This is clearly personal and everybody knows it. If Evo cared so much about keeping things into the law, we would not have Soo vs Wong in 2003, because Soo (and half of Cali) were smoking too much weed...

That's what I am talking about. This may be the single best money match ever at Evo. It may represent a huge boost in DVD sales (especially if DVDs are released soon, like they should). IMO its much better than Duc vs Sanford (what could Duc do?) or those 15 second moments Soo vs Wong or Daigo vs Wong, but now we will lose it all because the 40 pound guy is "too dangerous".

Maybe some people will have fun watching a couple 40 year old guys playing ST on Cigar Bob's machine, or watching Wong kicking people's ass in games he does not play for the 40th time, but IMO this is not enough and you guys better start giving people what they want to become the real World Tournament. Each little personal thing like this makes it easier for those fanboys to say that SBO promotional bullshit is the real worldwide tourney of the world...

The security idea would be the last resort. The best scenario is for DPC to chill and the Evo guys to allow him the entrance and a lot of big screen time for MMs. This is best for business, players and DPC as well.

The trash talk was funny as heck, and while I'm more partial to seeing games like 3S being played, I have to confess that these recent videos and matches really made me sit down and actually enjoy Marvel, which is a game I usually pay little to no attention to.

But the physical threat parts are what ruined the whole thing. It wasn't the smoke. It wasn't the "this guy sucks so bad, and this guy is really fat and sweats while he plays the game." That stuff was fine, even if it was completely nerdy, childish, etc. The absurdity of it all made it really entertaining, and makes you salivate for a MvC2 match to "settle" things.

But then people look into the camera talking about UFC this, come packing that, don't mess with my boy this, and the whole thing comes crashing. Even DP didn't say the words himself, it's his personality that's driving it. Otherwise, half of those guys probably wouldn't have much a reason to mouth off the way they did. You can't run an event where people aren't just insulting each other, but also making direct warnings about watching their back. Even if nothing would happen. Can't have a major tournament event "backing" that kind of thing. Even if it is all a joke.

DPC deserved his ban. Adam had a good point, but still.... regardless of the money matches and the ability to pat him down, his lack of professionalism throughout the ordeal could cost Evo sponsors. The hype he brought has certainly been refreshing, and he will be remembered for a great deal of time to come. But.... he's gonna have to keep his negativity to YouTube and private tourneys/homes now. Enough is enough. The scene, the way it is now, IMO is hopefully just a start, as more people from the community work their way up, as more games are released, i'm looking forward to a lot of people doing a lot of great things. Maybe someday you won't even need to money match for 10k, you'll (hopefully) just be able to go to some regional and make that much.

With that in mind, there is a lot to be protect, and a lot invested by the players, the staff, and several companies, while most of us agree that there should be hype matches and hype players, nothing can be allowed to get to the point where there's even the impression of anything violent, and to some extent anything illegal at all.

Does it matter if it's going to happen irl? not really, the issue is beyond preventing actual violence, it's to prevent even the idea that violence could happen (even by some remote chance) at evo.


Does it matter if your angry, drunk, defending yourself, repping your crew, just playing around, just trying to create hype, or are just a misunderstood gamer? no, the gamers don't care, sponsors don't care, media doesn't care, noone will care about the excuse or the reason. The impression is there, and is 10 times harder to erase, then to just avoid in the first place.

The bottom line, is that if someone looks at a post with your name on it or in it, combined with something violent that is not part the game, it's a problem. If somehow evo is included in this, it's a major problem. Even if it was your friend/cousin/mom/goldfish that actually technically did it and put your name in it, even if it wasn't technically in the same sentence.

I think many people aren't seeing things this way, but thats the way it is.

At this point a lot of people say "well what about ...":

1) What about this person and that incident? This isn't fair!

- Is that supposed to be an excuse? "Well this guy did something and didn't get banned, so i'm going be even worse and hopefully i don't get banned". Everyone should know the standard (at least on this issue), and it's not based on what other people do.

- Assuming something does happen, directly or even indirectly by something from an srk poster. Are they going to call them about it? "Listen sir we heard you made a post on srk that concerns us". No, they are going to call the names on the contract and say "wtf are you doing, are you insane?" Is that fair either? not IMO.

2) What about all this hype at Evo?

- Over the years there's been an increase in games, better prizes, more tournaments, and in general there seems to be more going on. When your evaluating scenarios for decision making, all you due is measure probabilities, measuring risk vs reward (yeah, just like a fighting game).

So lets measure risk: DPC never ever ever punched a single human being, let alone hurted one. Basic statistics saids that DPC will not, ever, hurt somebody. The chances of Wigfall hurting somebody are actually bigger (he tried to punch people before). The chances of Raishinken hurt somebody are actually bigger (maybe something may go wrong in those submission money matches). Heck, the chances of Wizard hurting somebody may be bigger (he may trip over some little kid like DP). So, without any specific tools, its pretty easy to say the risk is as close to zero as it can gets.

Now lets measure rewards, would ya? Evo is known worldwide, it’s a great experience, getting closer to being a household known event (well, for gamers households maybe) and got Toyota sponsorship last year. Now, what do you think is responsible for Evo getting out of srk, or srk getting bigger? Do you think it is Japanese winning Street Fighter games every year? Do you think its Wong winning Marvel on semi-automatic? Do you think it was that G4 program when everyu single game was basically called a big huge loser? Nope. What everyone sees are the big moments, the hype moments, the crowd moments. As I said before, Evo got 3 amazing promotional videos so far. Nobody give a damn about sucky trailers and 2 year late DVDs. Evo got its name because of Soo vs Wong, Daigo vs Wong and Sanford vs Duc (not released in a decent format so far, BTW). Because tjose matches brought the hype. When anybody anywhere in the world look at those games they can see or hear the huge crowd going absolutely crazy, and this is the only thing that makes Evo or the fighting game community so special. Asides from that, we’re just a tiny gamers community. DPC vs Wong may bring more crowd noise and excitement than all of those combined, or maybe not, but at least its something that people are really excited to see. Asides from the hope, Evo is not much than an anime convention.

I understand how Marvel haters choose to rationalize everything and disregard any serious business sense when talking about risk. Well, news to the haters: If Marvel loses hype, Evo loses hype, and your game gets smaller. Maybe Evo could get 40% bigger instead of 10% bigger next year if 2k7 gets enough crowd emotion. Maybe DPC will be banned and Evo won’t grow as much. Then maybe your fav game will be taken out because they gotta make some room to Wii Boxing. And it's very glib of you to assume that the chances of DPC actually hurting or killing somebody is the only considerable threat to Evo that this poses.

The very act of allowing somebody who has both made specific threats and has pulled a knife on someone in the past may be enough to scare off potential sponsors in the future, particularly given the recent scrutiny that violent video games have been placed under by political shitheads with nothing better to do. Make no mistake, this would be very bad for business, any way you look at it.

Approaching this from the other side, what does Evo have to lose by banning him? Granted, he is one of the big hype bringers, but he is far from the only one, and Evo's loss will only be minor and temporary by him not being there. It is for the best if Evo is going to continue to thrive well into the future. One slightly less awesome year of Evo is worth risking to ensure that there aren't a lot of really shitty Evos in the future, or none at all.

The kid being banned is his fault. First he pulled a knife on genghis and another time he had a gun ready for wigfall at the PSM tournament. Although the kid hasn't actually hurt anyone with those weapons the thought of it actually happening really sucks because he's brought those types of weapons to these events. He needs to chill and just sit back and stop all that ruckus. When he can do that - it's possible he'll be allowed to come back - might not be this year though.

Look at it this way, imo, as a proffesional business that attracts people from all over the world, they need to be 100% sure that their tournament is safe for the people there. One guy threatens to hurt someone (no matter whether he will do it or not) it is no longer a 100% factor, but 95% (lets say). Letting DPC back into EVO after being officially banned will just make things worse. there will be 10x the talk, shittalk, and speculation of what will happen on irc/SRK. and DPC will be 10x more likely to do something since the spotlight will be on him. personally i think anyone who has ever brought a weapon to fighting game tournament period should be permanently banned....thats just not something the gamers should have to think/worry about at a peaceful event. but the fact that he's acted on his shittalk - pulling a knife on genghis - i cant believe that we're even talking about him and his name hasn't been permanently banned from SRK to begin with. The risk, as mentioned in the last post, is not about violence actually happening at all, The risk is in implying that violent or illegal behavior is somehow a part of evo, part of the players that attend evo, accepted, tolerated, looked up too, or anyway involved.

Just to compare, when someone posted about playing non fighters in byoc, people jumped all over him, now when the subject of violence comes up, people are more accepting. It makes no sense, and that is what needs to be stopped immediately if anything is going to be resolved.

[...] DPC vs Wong may bring more crowd noise and excitement than all of those combined, or maybe not, but at least its something that people are really excited to see. Asides from the hope, Evo is not much than an anime convention.

Daigo vs Justin happened directly in the tournament, Sanford vs Duc was a rematch from the tournament. Wong vs Soo was still part of a organized 5v5 event.

Interesting that you bring up those three as your examples, where are the e-drama matches in that list? Maybe people keeping it in the game, being themselves, and trying to win is actually more hype than people that need to push the envelope and shock people into playing attention? Is it possible that the e-drama matches are overrated?

People supporting these matches aren't getting the point, all that matters is NO VIOLENCE, do we need new avatars? billboards? maybe capcom should remake their intro message: "Winners don't come strapped"...

Seriously, something that should have been a 10 minute conversation that went like "ok, i see we can't associate these things with the community, i'll find another way", turned into people getting banned, etc... if's it's dpc, justin wong, daigo, whoever, if they want to get hype that way, they should stay home. There's nothing else to it.

I know watson and some other people want to resolve it. Just IMO, unless this point is accepted and embraced by the community and the players involved, there's no point in continuing.

Saying things like "we'll just do it somewhere else" or "the benefit outweighs the risk" aren't helping at all, just sit down for a minute and think about it, then go about it the right way instead of making the problem worse or trying to even justify this ridiculous situation that should have never gotten this far.

Letting DPC back into EVO after being officially banned will just make things worse. there will be 10x the talk, shittalk, and speculation of what will happen on irc/SRK. and DPC will be 10x more likely to do something since the spotlight will be on him. personally i think anyone who has ever brought a weapon to fighting game tournament period should be permanen
