One day a man was trying to go to sleep one night. Suddenly he heard a noise. "It's only the cat" he said to himself. Then he heard it again. "I'm going to get that cat" said the man because he was annoyed. He went into the bathroom (where the noises were coming from) and turned on the light. The cat had opened the cabinet and made everything fall out and break and the cat was sitting there and staring at him. "Go outside" said the man and he put the cat outside. Then he tried to go back to sleep but then he heard the noise again. "How did that cat get back inside" he said and he went back into the bathroom. Suddenly a ghost flew out of the shadows and killed the man.
Now you tell a scary story.

That story started out somewhat interesting, then just ended in a really lame way.
"You raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly. Bravo, sir!"

If you want good ghost stories read the Scary Stories series(1-3) by Alvin Schwartz, the books are pretty good for *ahem* Children books.Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_Schwartz_ScaryStories#Scary_Stories)
One May nite, a man decided to post up a scary story on his favorite forum. His first try was earnest yet lacking, however it was a thread starter so it couldn't possibly steal the show. Little beknownst to him, wind started picking up in the area, and it seemed darker than usual. The lights that illuminated the town were still up, but shone a bleaker tone then the usual copper glow. Everything appeared normal to this man, as he continued with his internet business. While the minutes rolled by, it was time to say goodbye to the virtual world and welcome sleep. His fingers reached for the light, which seemed dimmer than usual, and with a click the lights were off and the entire room was illuminated by the computer monitor. As he turned off his computer , he slipped on his 'jamers and proceed to his futon, slouched over as if disturbed. Puzzled at this, but not overly curious, he straightened out his futon only to see a darker than usual spot on the cushion. Out from this dark spot of the futon, crept a creaking and vicious voice..
"They're all gonna neg you."
With a yelp, he immediately ran to turn the lights back on and frantically looked around his futon. He felt nervous; He had never experienced anything of the sort and figured it would just be a sleep deprived hallucination. But it was not. He turned the computer back on and once again the room was brightened, but not as bright as it usually is. With the comfort of the light, he told himself that nothing would get to him, and that what he heard was simply a trick brought on by his sleeplessness. He rolled into his futon, which was still slightly disheveled. Pulled his sullen shaded blanket over his body. His eyes veered to the screen as if the monitor was his savior. Everything seemed fine for a quarter of the hour, and soon sleep befell him.
He awoke to the user CP, but little did he know what happened to his rep.
As he scrolled down the page, lines of comments scattered the page..
And then all of a sudden.. a mariachi band busted through his door and it was cinco de mayo.

Word... very good books.
Back when I was a wee lad, I used to listen to the audio tapes with my sisters and the kids around my old neighborhood... Yea that scared me good... Lots of good, truly creepy stories, ESPECIALLY for children.

I'll tell another scary story
One day there was a person who had a dog but he didn't like his dog though and he didn't care when it died. About a year after it died, the person was watching the TV one night when he decided to go for a walk. As he was walking he saw a dog following him. "Go away" he said to the dog. The dog stoped when he stoped then walked again when the person walked "for the last time go away" said the person to the dog. Then the dog ran at the person and the person ran for his life. Sudenly he ran out of breath and turned around as the dog jumped at him. As the dog bit his neck he reliesed it was his dog that had died.

I was on my way home from the graveyard. I spotted a hitch-hiker by the side of the road. As always, I drove by. A couple of miles ahead, I saw the same girl, still hitch-hiking by the side of the road. Puzzled, I picked her up. Her name was Nina. I asked her how long she'd been waiting for a ride. She replied, but I didn't quite understand what she said. I asked some more questions, but everything she said was so vague and low in volume. I lost interest, and turned on the radio. 10 minutes passed. She pointed at an old house by the road and said that that is her home. I stopped, dropped her off and politely said farewell. She got out, left the door open, and started walking around to the back of the house.
On my arrival at home, I discovered she had left her sweater in the back of my car. I put it in my trunk, in case I should spot her again. I travel the same road several times a year.
Half a year passed. I was at the graveyard. Paying respect to the dead, I returned to my car, only to discover my front right tire being sabotaged. It wasn't cut with a knife or such an object. I dismounted the wheel, examined it, but couldn't find the cause. Frustrated, but calm, I mounted my spare tire. Then I noticed the sweater that Nina had left, hidden in my trunk.
On my way home, I had my eyes open for that old, weary house by the side of the road. I pulled over, and knocked on the door.
An older lady stepped out. I presented myself as a classmate of Nina, and asked if she was there.
"Nina?", she asked.
"Nina has been dead for ten years!"

I remember some SRKer not too long ago telling a story about a witch.
He said that he was walking down the street late at night I think, and there was some creepy-looking old woman rambling on in some gibberish.
Well apparently, by the time he got home, his parents were worried sick, because he had been gone all night. Somehow he had walked around all night aimlessly, and his father told him that he had encountered a witch.
Of course, the story was told much better by the individual. I don't remember all of the details. It was an interesting story though.
