A 23-year-old Winona man who was stabbed nine times early Saturday morning told police he couldn’t identify his assailants because he slept through the whole thing.

Deputy police chief Tom Williams said Winona Police are investigating the incident which oc-curred at about 1:30 a.m. at a residence on the 700 block of east Fifth Street, but was not reported until 7:57 a.m.

Williams said the victim told officers he slept through the attack and only became aware of his injuries when his girlfriend saw he was covered in blood and brought them to his attention. He was taken to Community Memorial Hospital and then transferred to LaCrosse for treatment. He remained hospital-ized Monday morning.

Williams said the investigation of the incident will continue.

Looks like the drugs his girlfriend put in his drink wore off, and unfortunately she failed to realize if you want to stab someone to death you stab them in the chest area, not the legs....

I don't believe this story at all. I'd have to see video of someone being stabbed while sleeping to believe this could happen. We're talking about a knife being jammed into your body. This is well beyond the simple tap on the shoulder that the average deep-sleeper would sleep thru. I'm just curious as to why he would lie about this. If he was passed out with the help of some drugs...then maybe...perhaps I *might* believe that....but just naturally sleeping? Nope.

I feel like the stabber only intended to get the guy once or twice. Subsequent stabbings were probably a result of being completely bullshitted at how his victim didn't stir. The whole thing probably took at least 45 minutes and several picture phone snapshots/mms.
