i love the anti war rap on track 7
and then followed up by more anti war songs after
linkin park is using their influence and creating awareness!!!!!!!!!!!
(this was all sarcastic BTW)
before they were emo but it was hard to tell because you couldn't understand what he was screaming and the background music was loud
they fixed that this album by turning the energy down to 10% and taking away the screaming so you can hear his emo esque lyrics

I'm actually a pretty big LP fan, which is why I'm disappointed by Minutes. I was hoping for something closer to Meteora.

you are right...it is the same way with everyone else. I think its because of the music industry thinking they know what the public wants and forcing otherwise great bands to put out what the execs say they should. just my opinion

Long ago, they released an EP, forgot the title unfortunately. My friend showed it to me once, and it was pretty fuckin' good. Reminded of a lot of underground, long the lines of Immortal Tech. and Jedi Mind Tricks. From what I hear, Chester joined in the middle of the project...

Damn, I didn't even know they had a new album now, lol.
If LP fans are disappointed, then I may just avoid it. Meteora was a step down IMO, so I don't wanna be too disappointed. Hybrid Theory and Reanimation were fucking sick though. Still listen to some of that shit today. Shinoda's album sounded interesting too, I've been meaning to check it out.

LP has a few songs that aren't on any of their albums and came out before hybrid theory and IMHO it's their best stuff here are some of the titles:
carousel
my december (the orginal version)
high voltage (the REMIX that wasn't on reanimation that one SUCKED)
regress

n there r a few more but i forgot the titles.

I actually think Chester's vocals carried a lot of the old songs, mostly because of the angsty hooks. But now he's
Shinoda leveled up since releasing The Rising Tied though, so its too bad he isn't featured more on the new album.

The new Incubus sucks. I'm sorry but Light Grenades only had 3-4 good songs. "Dig" is addictive, though.
I've given up on LP after Meteora. New single sucks, and I'm pretty sure that's the direction to this album.

incubus just put out a new album.
i liked the first 3 linkin park albums, but this one seems too "soft"...not that they were ever "hard" but from a sonic perspective it's just too subdued.
i'd rank LP's albums like this:
meteora
hybrid theory
reanimation
...

I do agree with you about Chester. I think I should reword my statement about Shinoda though.
I'm not a fan of rap at all, but one of the big reasons I liked LP so much was because of Shinoda's lyrics. I liked the combination of Rock/Hip hop. Reanimation actually got me into rap a little more. Minutes just feels really washed out now...

Yeah, Collision Course is definitely worth a listen. But a couple of the tracks sound better live, like points of authority/99 problems/one step closer.
i thought it was but i felt like they could've done more tracks to get the full vibe.
Yeah, a full length album would've been nice. They were originally only supposed to do like 2 tracks, but they decided to stretch it out to 6 and release an EP.

Ditto.
My friend let me hear their first single long before most people had heard of them. I loved what I heard, and months later everybody and their momma was listenin to Linkin Park. Fast forward a couple years and everybody finds it cool to hate them for some reason. Maybe their follow-up albums couldn't live up to the hype they generated, but it seems like a lot of hate just for that. =p

i dont think theres anything wrong with the first two (hybrid theory and meteora). but this one really blows. theres maybe 2 tracks on the whole cd i consider good. the other tracks sound like theyre trying to say something profound, which is unsusual of them. i guess im jsut kinda in shock abotu the difference that exists from the past couple albums.
i heard them on the radio earlier doing a interview or press release for their album. they dont even sound that enthusiastic about the release, which is awkward.

This excerpt is from the Associated Press. I thought the group would find it interesting.....................
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Linkin Park Has Changed Their Tune"
By JENNIFER N. MUMBI-MOODY, AP Music Writer
Monday, May 14, 2007 8am PST
NEW YORK - "Hands Held High," the most powerful song on Linkin Park's new album (which many fans already consider to be the best song on the entire album, although the group left off a few heavier tracks), includes lyrics about bombs blowing up mosques, a bumbling leader, high gas prices and general world confusion — an huge missive against President Bush and the war in Iraq.....
.......Or maybe not. Tell that interpretation to Mike Shinoda, the rapper/musician who writes most of the lyrics for the blockbuster band, and you'll get an earful on making assumptions about the group's most adventurous album to date, "Minutes to Midnight."
"We're not a political band. And I see some of the stuff that you're referring to... as more social, more in tune with what people are thinking today," says Shinoda, showing a glint of frustration as he and drummer Rob Bourdon sit in a studio, taking a break from rehearsals for upcoming shows in California.
"I tend to be drawn towards people, the interaction with people and how emotional events make you feel, and because we're all older, I think that we are more aware of those things," says Shinoda, 30. "This record ... it's aware of what's going on inside and aware to a large degree on what's going on outside ourselves."
The lyrics on the album, out Tuesday, are not the only signs of the band's development since the release of 2003's multiplatinum "Meteora." Once the leaders of rap-rock fusion, you'll hear less of Shinoda's signature rhymes on this record (he does sing on one track). And while lead singer Chester Bennington's screams are still as piercing as ever, they're less likely to be supported by the kind of music that defined the band as nu-metal. Some songs sound very pop, with arrangements that could even be described as mellow and tender.
"We've taken a lot of risks on this record because of the stylistic changes that we've made," concedes the 31-year-old Bennington.
"The one thing that people will notice the most is that there's not a nu-metal feel, but a lot of what we do is very Linkin Park ... We felt like we had done something very unique."
"There's more maturity (however) I think it delivers the same emotional impact that they always have," says Mike Rich, senior vice president and general manager of AOL Entertainment, for which the band taped a raucous concert on Friday night. It was to premiere on the Web portal Monday, however that has been put off until a later date.
Doing something unique was an important goal for the band on "Minutes to Midnight." The six-member group had sold 10 million copies of their 2000 debut, "Hybrid Theory," and then another four million with "Meteora." Both albums explored feelings of frustration and fury with a mix of rock, hip-hop and metal. (The band also sold six million with its remix album, "Reanimation," and its mash-up record with Jay-Z, "Collision Course" — not including side projects such as Shinoda's successful group Fort Minor.)
To help with their evolution, the group enlisted Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin. They were longtime fans of Rubin, whose credits in the past year included Tom Petty, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Dixie Chicks and Slayer.
"He suggested that we forget about what we think Linkin Park is supposed to sound like and just write whatever type of music we were inspired by at the moment," says Bourdon, 28. "It was really freeing."
And most people will say "Minutes to Midnight" doesn't sound like Linkin Park.
"The songs we felt strongly about have more melodies," says Bennington. "and those are the songs that turned up on the record."
Then there's the content. Although Shinoda stresses that it's not a political album, the band references the nation's turmoil, from broken levees on "The Little Things Give You Away" to bitterness over political and military leaders on "No More Sorrow."
"We've always just stuck true to the music that we felt like making," says Bourdon. "If we were to try and go make the trilogy album for us, it wouldn't have felt right to us, it would have been like we were trying to be something that we're not."
The band knows that many fans will want to hear a retread of their past sound. "We've gotten a lot of really positive response from fans, critics," says Bennington. "We've also gotten some feedback that's just like, not cool, — I think it's going to take a while for people to wrap their heads around what we've done."
But the band hopes that once fans hear the music, they'll realize Linkin Park has changed for the better, and that this is where they will stay. Some fans are upset that they have left off six harder-edged songs, tunes that are like the "old" linkin Park, however the band may release those tunes at a later date.
"We know that a lot of our fans are on the same page, and if they're not on the same page, that's fine too, they will be later, we'll still be playing this album, we'll still be playing the other albums," says Shinoda. "And whoever wants to come the show is invited."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Is anyone feeling the arrogant tone flowing from the band? Perhaps it is just me, I know not........

Linkin Park is a band I enjoy listening to. This CD? Nah, I'd pass over it. IMO, it's not as enjoyable as some of their others.

After having had the album for a few days, the complaints in this thread seem vastly overstated.
It doesn't sound like other Linkin Park stuff, but I definitely wouldn't say it's a bad album. It just sounds more alternative rock than "numetal" or whatever made-up name that people used to describe Linkin Park before.

My only complaint was that it was short.
They were going for a different sound and they got it. 7.9/10
I like Linkin Park--and hey i wouldnt say its bad--just they were going for different.
Just Like I used to Love Jay-z's original flavor flow. That rapid fire--but he changed his flow slowed it down and became more succecful.
I dunno if it'll work for linkin park--but hopefully next album i get more of their old style.

Why are thirty year old men singing about topics that sixteen year-olds kids think?
I'm not questioning anyone's taste in music (you like what you like, some may not enjoy what I do), but there's a time and a place to stop acting like a child, especially when you have your own.
Why are thirty year old men singing about topics that sixteen year-olds kids think?
Such as?
Ironically, I think that's a reason for the complaints about the album; the music you like at 30 isn't always the same stuff you like at 20, and that goes for making music too. To say nothing of the fact that they wanted to make new music.

I just heard Shadow of the Day on the radio for the first time a few days ago. I didn't even realize they had a new album out.
Awesome song. You guys are disappointed with it? I guess it's not their old style, but it's good. I haven't checked out the rest of the album yet.
People who hate on LP only hate on them because it's "cool" to do so. I remember years ago when my friend discovered LP long before they were popular. Then they got popular. Then those type of people who hate popular things because they think it's cool, started hating LP. Now they aren't terribly popular anymore, nor is hating on them terribly popular either. So those who hate on LP nowadays basically need to get with the time and stop caring, heh.

I find it funny when ever I hear a complaint about their new cdd in some shape or form or the obvious 'derrr emo' response whenever they're name pops up. I would definitely rather listen to them than hear 'crank that *insert noun here*'.
