Why did the republicans change from a decent party lead by guys like Lincoln to this party of religious fuckheads. (not that religion is bad or anything, but ultra conservatives make A LOT of policy for everybody who isn't them)
The democrats aren't any better... instead of having a stupid platform they rarely even have a platform. This is why I'm not voting in 2008, unless Obama is the top guy.
I'd love to have a president who understands what it's like to be a minority in office and effect more policies that don't deal with middle class white people.

yeah but you hace to remenber that repulicans use to be the demacrats up untill the depression and then they switched the platforms. So lincoln was in actuallity a demacrat. I agree that religious leader should just get the fuck out of goverment and preach to the people not the lawmakers. Hell if it was up to the conseverative religious group we would just bomb everyone in the middle east but the isralies.

about what?
the platforms or the conservatives?
perhaps I worded it the wrong way. the point was that lincoln had more of a liberal standing then most did in his party. such as the south having to take an oath to get back into the united states after the civil war. Plus the partys had a diffrent platform then they do at this day. it was not untill reagan that the religious groups started to really get involved in the goverment. And even now thats all that republicans talk about anymore, reagan this and reagan that. hope this clears up what i was trying to say.

Z!M is correct about the switching of the parties. The Democratic party of today was essentially the Republican party of the past.
Oh, and Tancredo is a fucking disgrace. He embarasses the entire state of Colorado.
oo man this is going to be on the daily show on monday!

The first political parties in the United Staets were the Federalists and the Republican party.

It's politics, what do you expect? Each party has shifting demographics. In 15 years, the Democrats might try to target the religious vote. In 15 years the Republicans might get the black vote.
But I'd just like to stress that Tancredo has no other purpose for running for president other than to put coals under McCain and Giuliani's feet because of their weakness on illegal immigration.

Mike Gravel>all.
But yeah, I'd wanna play some GRAW with Dennis Kucinich.
Dennis Kuncinich is a crazy mofo man, but hes honest about what he says and truly believes in it so props to him for that.
Besides its too early to make a choice about anyone, hell a year is still a long way
to go before the primarys star up and then the real mudslinging begins. Man i cant wait!!

Yeah, he's definitely going for the 2000 John McCain appeal as being the blunt, hard-talking guy who calls other people on their mistakes.

I thought it was the Federalists and the Whigs. Maybe there were several.
Either way, there is no real 'conservative' party anymore, at least in any fiscal regard. The base of the republican party is so caught up in moral issues that they don't seem to care this administration has pretty much abandoned the ideals of conservatism.
