View Full Version : "New" things you should have been doing before

Before I start, I know this thread is just begging for a bunch of sex/masturbation jokes. I say NAY... unless they're funny.

This thread is dedicated to anything good you just found/started doing that you're kicking yourself for not doing before. Just about anything can fit the bill within these limits. It doesn't have to be a whole new activity/hobby; it can be something small, like a great idea you saw.

Saving/investing money.

Honestly, it's not something new per se, but it's something I've been doing seriously for a little over 4 years now. Just knowing you have enough money in the bank to be well off for a while is always a comforting thing.

But if I knew when I was younger, damn man, I wouldn't have blown all that allowance/birthday/Christmas money on stupid shit when I was kid and I'd be doing really good.

Effectively organizing my time.

I just started this week, but it's *amazing* how much more work I'm getting done. I'm actually ahead for once.

And having said that, *logs off SRK*

Reading.
Strange enough since I like to write alot that I never really read as much as I should have. Sure I would read every once in a while but it wasnt until recently(couple of years ago) that I am rarely without a new book to check out.
This past winter ive already read 4 books, which is probably not alot for most people here but is a shitload for me. And no i am not including Manga/Comics :bgrin:

That's something I'm aiming at too. The last minute hustle of being a procrastinator with no plans is getting to me. What kicked you in the ass to get you started?

Flossing.
My dentist always gives me shit about it, but it's actually not that bad. It takes less time for me to floss than it does for me to brush.

I also hope to get some reading in this summer.

1. Being LESS social!
(Get rid of annoying friends...)

2. Playing Guilty Gear
(I started from SLASH... I wish I learned how to play that game when X released... but I was bullshitting stuff like "it's too fast... not precise... how the fuck do you know what you're doing in this mess? etc...")

- Getting more drunk then the girl i get drunk with... BIG MISTAKE.... cause she pretty much is down to skrew your brains out in a drunken fashion but your ass is too drunk to even do anything besides trying not to throw up.

- Following through. I like to do shit then i fucking bail towards the end. But i could have completed so much more if i just followed through to see the end results.

- Fucking every girl that offered it up. You know back in my highschool days i was cool with all the "Hoes" yeah the sluts of highschool. Because i told myself i wanted to bang girls that werent hoes, i always declined the opportunity. BUT NOW i wish i did bang em just cause it could have more notches on the belt and they arent Hoes anymore.... (No Homo) i still got mines just from non sluts.

- Saving Money and Paying off Credit Cards ahead of time. Its a standard now for me. i MUST pay my shit.

Playing guitar. I really really REALLY REALLY enjoy playing almost whenever I have any free time at all and I'm starting to get the hang of this shit. It/s really fun and exciting. First thing in a long time I've actually had to try to improve at because it didn't really come naturally.

going to class, studying, saving money from childhood on...and yeah i gotta go with the fucking ho's in highschool thing. shit, i had a chance in like sixth grade but didn't take it because i was stupid.

maybe thats a good thing though. i woulda probably ended up getting her pregnant or something. something that immediately comes to mind is me turning down two girls because my friends were into them. i mean...i guess i did the right thing but my friends ended up not getting with them anyway. maybe i should look those girls up and post pics? if i can find them i will.

*quick example*
girl 1 = cindy
girl 2 = patrice

i was in my senior year of HS and i'm in class...cindy leans over and tells me that she doesn't have any panties on...she wants me to check...i check and yeah. its confirmed. she was hinting at us going into another room to have fun and i could have beat but i was like na...because my friend alex was in love with her. they used to date and he was trying to get back with her but she just kept turning him down. i felt bad for him so i declined. cindy had a big ass, she looked good, etc. and yeah i regret it but i know i did the right thing as a friend.

patrice was a coworker of mines...anyway my dude t claimed he beat but i didn't really believe him. i mean he coulda, i dunno. anyway, patrice seemed more interested in me. she had been flirting with me for a min but i wasn't sure if she was serious because i was 21/22 at the time...and she was like 25/26, iirc and was a staff member. i was just a student worker. i couldn't tell whether she was playing or not. anyway while we're all in a room (IT related) with no ppl there except for me, t and patrice, she wants to sit on my lap and move around and stuff...i know i coulda parlayed that into fucking her in the basement but my dude was there. i knew that he was into her.

*edit*
and neither has a facebook or myspace page. lame. patrice deleted hers. =/

Saving money. Just recently I got on this bandwagon and it's looking good. I'd like to thank those sweet companies out there that lessened my cost on my action figure collecting hobby. Other than that, I could get a PS3 right now, if I wanted to.

Hell, saving money is the right thing to do if you haven't done it before. After all, it's guaranteed that no one here is gonna have social security in the future. That stuff will be a thing of the past by the time we're done working for The Man™.

I'm on the bandwagon with the money saving crowd. it's something I wish I had done back in my navy days when I could afford to basically put every dime into a mutual fund. I'd be on top of the game right now if I had instead of barely making it by. Still, I've learned and now I'm taking the neccesary actions to get it done. ten years from now I'll be traveling this world again. This time, I'll go where I want and when with no Navy BS to hold me back. Look out Thailand. And france.

The "new" things that I should have done before are things that I've already done a while a go, but now they're starting to diminish a bit. I'm still strong on saving money, and I'm trying to pick up on some new things too, like working harder on certain things.

However, I'm not nearly as strong as for managing my time. In my Fall semester of college, I made sure I had everything done and I was on time and all that. In Spring, I just kinda lost it. Wasting a lot more time, still getting things done but not as effectively as before. I kinda blame how laid back I was during Winter break on that - I played an MMORPG all that time and I ended up giving it more time then it deserved. It wasn't until a little over a month ago I quit that MMO (for now), but even afterwards I still wasn't making good use of my time - I just felt like doing other stuff. My grades are fine, I've aced a couple of huge projects and final exams, but I know I could've put a bit more effort in it.

One thing I REALLY want to work on for this summer is WAKING UP ON TIME. I seriously sleep in FAR too much and that shit has got to stop. Last summer flew by because of it, but now I really want to make the most of my summer. My summer, however, will consist of working full-time and playing games all the time after that :( . I'll at least be making some money though, so it's not entirely wasted time.

Saving money is a big issue for me; I'm certainly not destitute by any means, but I'm still not that great at saving. I'm trying my best, and getting better at it, however. I guess all I can do is have more will power.

Working on my writing. My entire life I've been a great writer and loved to do it, but everyone always told me to pursue math (They say I'm a prodigy or something). However, math is fucking boring, writing is not. Like 4 months ago I decided to start seriously studying film, and I'm currently working on a screenplay. Every day I spend 6-10 hours researching films, taking detailed notes, analyzing shit, figuring out how everything works and fits together, why it works, etc. It'll probably take me another 6-12 months to finish something good, but still, I really love doing it.

And I really wish I had started sooner.

I quit using the treadmills at this health center I used to go because they switched to these gigantic fucking Bowflex Series 7s and I didn't know who to work them properly (like, I'd be running, and all of a sudden it would just slow down and then come to a complete stop and it would say COOL DOWN real big on the display and other such shit) ... so I just gave up trying to figure out how to operate those fucking battleships.

Turns out they're not that hard to use and I get that "high" from them exceptionally quicker than other machines because of the incline. I LOVE spacing out, letting my eyes glaze over, while my legs and chest are in fucking agony and sweat is pouring off of my brow. AWESOME FEELING.

It's not guaranteed, but some pundits are convinced that it will happen, as Social Security works much like a pyramid scheme and could collapse like a deck of cards. Checkmate.

When my procrastinating started to inconvenience others. Its one thing to always drive myself to last-minute deadlines, but then when it affects other people, I don't really like that. I'd promised my girlfriend a date on Saturday, but because I'd been so lazy during the week, I wasn't able to finish all of my work on time, and I needed Saturday to bust my ass to make the deadline. She was pretty upset/disappointed about it. I thought about it, and realized that if I'd just done my work in a timely manner, it would have been done by Thursday at the latest, and we could have gone on the date that I promised her.

same here, I was a heavy guy in HS and actually had a gym membership and was using it quite often for a couple months, but then got burnt out and stopped. now like 6 years later I'm even bigger and regret stopping. Late november I started watching my diet and at the beginning of January I started going to the gym again. Now I've lost like 60 pounds and I'm about my old HS weight, which is still pretty big. I seriously wish I never stopped then I wouldn't be as huge as I am now.
