I can not get a close shave at all. I use the Gillette three blade disposable razors and shave with the grain, but I'm always still left with alot of stubble and it looks terrible. On the other hand, sometimes I'd shave against the grain and get a really close shave, and if I was careful I wouldn't bleed like a MF. But then as it started to grow back in, there came the problems with ingrown hairs (which I have a hard time with as it is...).
Are there any razors, electric razors, lotions, shaving gels, or different shaving methods anyone may know of to fix this problem? It's driving me nuts. :wasted:

Read that. I don't do everything it recommends, but some things, like shaving after you shower, really help.

I find that my neck is silky smooth if I shave it in the shower. My neck used to be one of my problem areas.
My main problem now is the goatee area, sometimes it's sharper than the razor itself.
If I had an in shower mirror, everything would be great. Another thing I recommend is a shaving cream heater. Set it to the hottest Gel setting no matter what you're shaving with, and it should come out nice and hot.

Do you use shaving cream/gel? You have to go against the grain on some spots to get a real close shave sometimes. Try just doing it very gently/lightly and slowly. once you have the area cleared you can go across it with a little more speed and force.
I would recommend just getting an electric and sticking with it for a while though. Shave daily with one, takes way less time and irritates skin/gives ingrowns wayyyyy less.

Not for me.
I think guys with light hair can get a close shave. Blonde dudes w/ peach fuzz.
I am a big monkey man though so they don't work for me. (I never saw you I only heard of you, talkin bout the big monkey man--- great song)

Are you guys having any luck with the Gillette Fusion? I got a sample one and it was very harsh on my skin, but it was a bit closer than Mach3.
I wish the heads weren't so fucking expensive...
also, what do you guys use for shaving cream?

Barbasol. Can't go wrong with a classic.
I try not to shave too often. If I shave every two days, it hurts my skin. Usually every 4th-5th day is when I shave, and ALWAYS during/after a hot shower. If you don't have the facilities for a shower, get a washcloth and soak it for about a minute in HOT WATER. Then ring the water out of the cloth and apply directly to your face for about 2-3 minutes.
And always use after shave if you can. Unfortunately, I can't think of any good brands(Old Spice is a bit too strong and not as effective as I'd like it to be), but any should do the job.

I am a lazy, crazy fuck and shave dry (no cream, no water, no nothing) every day or two after I shower. It works for me because I have, like, stone skin now thanks to years of doing this, but I can't say I recommend it for anyone else.

You're fucking insane. I used to do that shit back when i started shaving though, when i was 16-17. Shit grows in way too thick now for me to shave dry.
Don't really take advice from me on shaving cuz im in a completely different category. I let it grow out for like 3-4 weeks and shave once a month, takes me about 30-40 mins one day a month. Trim up the goatee and sideburns with a trimmer. Yea... i'm lazy.

Use hot water to warm up the razor and wash away hair from the blades.
I usually wet my face with hot water together with the cream.

i have 2 norelco electric shavers (one cool skin, the other some high end one ive used once) both gave me a really close shave and i have weird facial hair, very thick..i also use the fusion on occasion which works just as well.. now i just use hair clippers and leave the stubble, fuck a clean shave ;p
but try using a gel lotion, i found that gel worked better for me. There are also same face washes that claim they "soften facial hair" for a better shave.
umm...shave atleast once every 5-7 dadys with electric shaver. Well, I don't do close shave....makes me look like a 15 year old lol. Also, with my electric shaver(cheap one), I find myself cutting all over my face if I try to do a close one. And the finishing is not that good...end up using a razor at the end. So if you're gonna buy an electric one, never buy a cheap one.

my advice to you:
splice your dna, combine it with an asian genome.
asian=no body hair.
on a downside, you won't get any asian or white girls, you'll have slanty eyes, and people will mistake you for a chick.
:/
on a serious note, do you use any lotion or gel prior to shaving?
you may want to steam your face before you shace, that way, you pores are opened up.
that may make it easier.

I've used all Gillette products since I started, I experimented with Schick and Bic but neither of those worked for me at all, including the Schick quattro.
I couldn't ever get a good shave, but things have improved every couple of years for me in razor quality. The Gillette Sensor Excel was a great first razor, the Mach 3 was pretty good, Mach 3 Turbo was a lot better and the Fusion Power is probably the best razor out.
If you have a girl who likes a clean shaven man, and you grow facial hair too fast, get the Fusion Power. If you don't have thick beard and what not, it's kind of overkill. Personally, I'm waiting on the six blade razor. =)
Shaving cream: I use edge gel cause it's cheap and a little goes a long way.

Apparently I shave like a caveman. I don't use any products aside from a razor, and I run it up/down my neck/face really fucking fast, shaving my entire face of 2-3 days of stubble in about 1-2 minutes. My friend saw me doing it and got freaked out, apparently he uses all this shit on his face and takes like 10 minutes to do it.

I just use shaving gel (Gillette Fusion) after I shower. I'm thinking my biggest problem is that I have very sensitive skin but my whiskers are coarse as hell. Not a good combination. I read the link Septimus posted, I think I'll try that with the brushes, double edge safety razors and whatnot.

Yeah, it's weird. I'm much more prone to cut myself if I use shaving cream or gel, for whatever reason.

Andis Outliner Pro II
best thing i've bought in awhile, $50 but it cuts ohhhh so smooth
as far as razors go I don't use them. they cut too deep for me (i'm african american) so if I use them I end up getting razor bumps. Machines work wonders for me.

I don't get it...how is this bad? I do this exactly as well (even the time frame!)
I thought I was being smart because post-shower the skin and hairs would be wet enough from the hot water/steam.
That, and I am secretly watching Septimus Prime's every move.. . .!

I use cold water when shaving hot water seems to be the better choice but once you try cold it feels A LOT better.
Also I shave after a hot shower and use shaving cream.

I just use water. After my last can of shaving cream ran out... I just never bothered.
Shaving without water/cream is horrible. Their purpose is to provide a thin layer between the razor and skin, so you just shave the hairs, not the outer layer of the epidermis. It'll cause really sensitive, dry skin. (Unless you're a beast like Sep and do it for 6 years...my brain exploded when reading that...)

I use mach 3 as my blade of choice. I try to shave everyday, but sometimes I get lazy and wait a few days between shaves. When I shower I use a loofa bar and scrub my face. Then after I shower I dry my face and use Gillette fusion shaving gel. I then leave my blade under some running hot water for a minute or two. Then I shave with the grain. If I need to get closer Ill re-gel and shave very slowly and carefully. Then after the shave i use Gillette fusion shaving balm with aloe with no alcohol. I never forget to pour some alcohol on the blades. I read that the water on the blade leaves mineral buildup and causes the blade to not last as long and not be as sharp.
But thats how I do it and it works for me. I never get razor bumps and I have a heavy beard If I dont shave at least once every 4 days.

It's best to shave after you used warm water on the hairs you're about to shave. Also you want to shave with the grain. The only reason why you use foam/gel and shaving with the grain is to avoid cutting your skin and causing irritation. Also if you shave too deep, you could get an ingrown hair. And all that can lead to infection.
But real men don't need any fufu crap. We just use a razor. I recommend an electric razor, cuts down a lot of the time and less likely to cut yourself.

Braun electrics > Norelcos. I got the new Braun 360 Complete for Christmas and I have been using it every other day for a couple months and I have significantly less irritation than my old Norelco.
Manuals? I've been using the Fusion Power. I dig it, too.

Hey there are some products that make the hairs in your hair bumps get strait and stick up our the bump. you can pick or pull them out with some tweesers. I did this about 5 years ago and to this day I swear I have little to no hair bumps. if you stay on it I imagine they won't even come back. I recommend using a warm towel, and dabbing it lightly on your face before shaving as well.... hope you read this if you have questions pm me.
