SBO 2006 Akuma Vs. Urien [Link Removed, Sorry...I Didn't Know]
I know the major focus will be held on the parrying or yet again another "Daigo Esque" situation, but that's not why I'm posting this. As you can see, this is a tournament...this is an Akuma player in A Tournament. This is an Akuma player that is playing like he plays on Xbox Live in A Tournament...
I watched Harmonaz's video and I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone by reffering to his video or making him seem as the "authority on akuma" but you can't knoc that he's pretty good...but that's besides the point, when I watched...He wasn't spamming Air Hadou's all game, maybe because I'm not a full fledged Akuma player but...Is that a key to his game? Spamming Air Hadoukens?
I mean, I know it's a good keep away game but my question is: For most of you Akuma players out there, Online and Off...would reccomend this guy's style of play and if not, what kind of things would you change? Because like I said, I'm not a full fledged Akuma player, I know the basics at most...but I damn sure wouldn't be throwing Air Hadou's like that...
What if this guy was going against someone like RX who could've easily parried a air hadou then went right into a Shoulder Charge...he would've been screwed...lol.
Anywho, feedback appreciated. Post On :wgrin:
Edit:: Nevermind, I just saw the whole video...dude is sick, roflmaoooooo...but still, answer none the less.

I posted this six months ago. Somebody made exactly the same comments you have.
Air fireball isn't that big of a deal, even online. Offline anything goes. The Akuma player uses them like crazy because ...well, just look at what happens when Urien finds an opening up close.
This Akuma player is Match, one of the best Japan/world Akuma player, last year SBO finalist. He adapts to the situation which is "if i eat an aegis, i'm dead", so yes he contains Urien away. Not very sexy, but pretty efficient...
Basically, that's the common way i mostly see against good Hugo, Makoto SA1, Q, and others: one opportunity and Akuma is almost dead.

That was an impressive Urien, nice parry at the end. That Akuma player is very smart, one Agies combo as seen on the vid and it was lights out.

I guess when you guys put it like that it makes sense, I just thought at first it was a bit tasteless for him to keep doing it...I understand to do it to get yourself out of a bad sitatuation but when I kept seeing him do it I was a bit turned off, lol.
Sorry for reposting this vid Xen, um...the mod can delete as they see fit, I didn't know this was posted prior. Also thanks for the feedback guys...least I know it's still good to ask questions.

Yea its offline, there shouldn't be any questions on the Akuma's players tactics. Akuma has poor stamina and stun meter. Poor guy, he's getting old.

Watch the whole video:
You will notice he has a different tactic for every character. Look how he rushes down the Chun Li and Yun. A good Akuma player doesn't just try the one size fits all approach to EVERY match. They adapt and respond to their opponent rather than just spam the fireballs every chance they get. Also if you notice every one of those fireballs had a purpse rather than just being thrown haphazzardly.
Match is beast though.

Geezus that parry sequence was amazing.
And yeah, SuperSamyon said it perfectly. Being a Remy user, I can say that any character with bad defense should turtle against Urien, if possible.

Once its mainstream on youtube it doesn't matter. Its only when you post unreleased videos or videos that you ripped yourself and give it public access. If its a link on youtube pretty much anyone who knows how to use a search engine on you tube can access it.
If anyone is to blame youtube is and the directors of SBO can ask them to remove it. Until then, its fair game.

Air fireballs actually beat like half the cast's offensive game even offline. Akuma's zoning game with effectively placed fireballs is sick. Xbox Live just makes them way too strong due to the delay.

Akuma is a very basic character... he is all mixups and ranging, thats why it seems like he is playing x-box live esque.
Japanese akuma players are on another level, most of them would beat the rest of the best of the players in the WORLD.
Match/Jiro are gods with akuma... kara demon FTW :-P

Get a custom sanwa or seimitsu! Infinitely better than MAS, IMO. Japanese sticks for the win.

To me, Match is one of the smartest Gouki players I've ever seen. Yuki is very good as well but I think Match has a better chance of getting far in tournament play. Jiro is very good as well but his attempts to show off can get him killed.

Here's the best answer I can give you.
Sometimes you gotta' do what you gotta' do.
And if you don't believe me, why pick Top tier? Most people pick Top tier just to beast.

I beg to differ, don't get me wrong...you bring up a very valid point, but from my perspective...it's like, I'd rather go through a match parrying my ass off to save more life then wait until I have that slice of life left for me to work with and start bringing out beast parrying then....it's almost like a waste to me.
Don't mistake me here though, I mean parrying things I know I could get off...like I've seen plenty of tourney videos where people let Yun players get off like 3-4 dive kicks in a row Blocked and unbloked un-answered! and I'm like, what are you doing??? lol...I'd atleast try to parry 2 out of the 3 or 4...just how I am.
Does that mean I'm to "Risk Taking?" I'd have a better sense of self knowing I lost a match but gave my opponenet hell in the process then wait for me to start "kick it in gear" at the last second.
Anyone else relate?

I think vs. Yun's dive kick there isn't too much you can do after a blocked one of those.. at least that's in my experience. But I don't know why they didn't try and parry one of them.. probably because it was a tourney and he didn't want to fuck up too bad
And don't be too self conciese about how you play.. go with what works for you. Sometimes being unorthodox is needed for a situation instead of doing the safest move you can

Akuma is just one of those characters where if you take a big risk you're either rewarded well or paying with your life. I'd say If you know you can pull it off go for it, but Akuma needs a good sense of defense at the same time because one slip up can lead to a nice chunk of your life bar.
That and I would'nt say parrying Yun's dive kick is realy taking a risk, thats how I land the most damage on him.

Yes, by definition of risk, seeing as how a failed parry typically means taking damage. You can try to parry them; that's fine. But it's not a safe tactic.
Also: Yun/Yang divekicks are extremely safe. Why else would they go unanswered? The best tactic is to do some high-grade anti-air (shoryu) as they're coming down. There's no parry and it's very discouraging to the Yang/Yun player. You're playstyle's fine IMO but yeah, your liable to eat a massive combo if you mess up.
