I been a mainframe operator (tape monkey/Sysape) for over three years now and I want to get my hands dirty with some Z/OS training and get me some more $$$. I know most people think mainframes are going the way of the dinosaur, but where I work they are pretty much here to stay for the good foreseeable future.
I also know a lot of us here are IT people (Fishjie and Preppy come immediately to mind), but do any SRKers have any mainframe experience? I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what exactly I'd like to do. I've got a pretty good environment to learn in since I sit at TSO with super user access for 12 hours a day and there's a few friendly guys that are willing to show me a few tips, but still, mainframe stuff isn't at all easy. Even with help it can be confusing. Any tips I can get from some experienced techs? Thanks!
