I was at the bar yesterday and damn, I need to learn how to dance yo. All this sweet honeys are dancing alone and I'm sitting there thinking, I wish I could dance.

So, for reals, we all know dancing is fun and it take a great deal of confidence to do it. I have the confidence part covered. I just need me to pick up a basic 2step.

I'm kinda in the same position. My friends took me to a club last saturday(which was my second time in my life) and at first I was just chillin but after some alcohol, a quick dancing 101 from my friends and some encouragement from of my friend's homegirls, I managed to dance a bit..if you can call what I did dancing. I felt way too self conscious..but the thing is at a club people are half drunk anyway so who cares what you look like... I still lack confidence in my dancin skills(and in myself for that matter)..I need to learn how to dance..but it was pretty fun and we're going again tonight.

watch videos (usher, chris brown, ne yo, timberlake, whatever basic style you like). i'm assuming that you go to clubs that play hip hop (i have no idea how to dance to techno or rock), but if you want to dance with the girls, i wouldn't try pop n lock or break dancing (those are more solo showcase). grinding doesn't really take any skill, just make sure to keep it fun for the girl.

practice in front of a mirror and start off by stepping around with your body loose. a lot of people try to move their body in one motion like a stick. each part of your body moves at overlapping times. you have to flow the motions into one another (ie step with first foot, roll your shoulder, hip, then other foot stepping). your hips and shoulders should move naturally don't be afraid to use them. like Epsilon said, you have to have rhythm. find some videos, watch them in slow motion and practice emulating moves that you liked. if you have friends that can move, have them show you and critique you (they will be laughing their ass off at you in the beginning), that's how i learned.

Dancing is reallly hard to describe in words.

Same boat, but like Mr. Bastos said, in a club, nobody should care except maybe if you are trying to dance with a girl. But even then, if she digs you, she might try to either put up with your crap or teach you.

A lot of guys can't dance and if they can arn't as good as the ladies, something to do with our body proportions that since girls have curves they can dance better or something.

Anyway, just go with the music, and especially with the girl. If you can flow with your partner, you're already ahead of most people. Sometimes I'll throw in something sensual, like a light caress on the girl's arms or a soft blow on her neck. A few times it got the ladies crazy with the grindage.

But one thing, don't go overboard with the dancing. I was into bboying acouple years ago and thought that top rocking would work for club dancing, man was that retarded.

I can dance but I'm cool with the shit. You don't have to be very fancy, but as long as your on beat and you look comfortable doing it then you should have no problem. But you have to get out there and start dancing with the honeys. I remember a WHILE back when I first went clubbin my boys were like "just get on her" and pretty much I picked up the step. As long as your moving with the beat, chicks are mostly cool with dancing with you. But knowing how to put some moves on the girls when you get more smooth with your steps (and grindin) makes them want to ante up their moves as well. And it can all lead up to good things.

But most of the time when I clubbed hard I was drunk anyway. Pretty much swaggering around and fondling chicks while I swayed around and danced with them. But I still was smooth with the steps.

man, you guys are talking to a guy with little/no exp in dancing. all those moves are real simple, but youd have to understand the rhythm first. id just go with simple two stepping first. that way you can get into rhythm before you start pop lock and droppin.

theres only so much that can be explained through words but ill give it a shot.

clap on the beat and put your feet together. step in between.
so itd be like.. clap>step left>together>clap step right>together rpt.

real easy, you can get away with it at crowded clubs where you cant move much. but once you get into open areas, you better learn something quick.
