Considering that "Ball" and "Jewel" are the same word in Japanese, is the title really "supposed" to translate into "Dragon Ball" or was it supposed to be "Dragon Jewel"? "Dragon Jewel" seems like it makes more sense, but then "Dragon Ball" goes right along with the spherical shape and the amount of gentalia jokes in the original series.

First off, I hope you get hit with a flaming truck full of Herpes for even daring to talk shit about HEAD CHA-LA. Hironobu Kageyama is waaaaaaaaaay better than Rock the Dragon.

That being said, I do miss the theme. I actually happened upon an original dub Season 1 boxset at a local Suncoast, but in true Suncoast fashion, it's way too expensive (OVER 9000!!! Well... over $45 anyway...).

Also, it's people like you that are the reason Bruce Falconer was able to shit all over DBZ. Fuck you.

The American version is all loud, all the time. There's never any subtlety to it whatsoever. It's inorganic. It's not dynamic. It's just awful.

The macho voice acting and the rewritten dialogue are primarily responsible for turning DBZ into a brain dead pro-wrestling cartoon, but the rescored music is a huge factor as well. American DBZ is a noisy and infantile shell of the real deal.

I don't think the problem that you're describing is that the music is boring per se, but rather there is an actual lack of music. The dub simply had no such thing and went on and on with mostly horrible music that would often not mesh as well with the scene at hand. The original just didn't always have music. I thought this was most effective during those drawn out stare-downs. The dub would not only have mood killing music, but would also have these cheesy lines added in for whatever horrible reason.

Either way, I can see where you're getting at.

A good dub is better than a good sub in some cases, but most of the music in the Cartoon Network redub of DBZ was just bad.

It's already been covered, but there is a value to dramatic silence, to what's called a pregnant pause. Though to be fair, this is much more clear when there is actually a good performance going on.

The "remastering" process involves cropping the 4:3 picture and zooming in for "widescreen" and messing with the colors. Nothing to do with the animation so don't count on it.

Because Dragon Ball was originally much more than the simplified action show that it became in the States. The Japanese music is much more organic and dynamic. It captures so many more sides of the story. The American version is all fuzz, all loud, all the time.

According to power levels, Frieza's 1st form had a max power lvl of 500,000 whereas Goku after he healed had a max power level of 300,000. Yet he was able to injure Frieza(4th form). Even Piccolo was able to fight Frieza's 2nd form when his power lvl was no where near Frieza's. So how the hell did Frieza ever have a hard time with any of them? he coulda just went max on 1st form and beaten them all. Is it because Frieza despite transfroming, he never actually powered up to increase his power lvls(like Goku/Vegeta/Trunks vs Cell)? Just to access a higher lvl of power/get a power boost from the next form?

If Frieza's true power level is twelve million like it's been stated many times over, then that means he didn't increased his power at all from his first transformation since one percent of twelve million is one hundred and twenty thousand, and that doesn't make sense to me. Gohan- He is not a quitter, always ready to give it his all and build up

Tien- not as strong, but he he gets busy

In the dub frieza said the one percent line...but in japanese that wasnt the case.
Well i dont remember the exact amount but, in japanese frieza didnt say he was using only 1% but that he was holding back a vast amount of his power. he then powered up to 50%...

Tenshinhan didn't even compete, believing he was outclassed and choosing to remain in the wilderness with Chaozu. He showed up later on, just long enough to surprise Buu with a Kikoho and get taken out.

I have nothing against Tenshinhan, but his heyday was early in the series, before the sci-fi element began to marginalize the human characters. Kuririn was really the only one who could stick it out in the company of aliens and hybrids.

Basically Elder Kai unlocked Gohan's power potential which made him somewhat surpass SS2 and made him powerful than Buu. Problem is once Buu absorbed Gotenks and Piccolo that made him more powerful than Gohan.

But since by the time Vegeta and Goku were both really powerful by the time they had kids(or more kids in Goku's case)the kids started out a lot more powerful than say,Gohan when he was a child.Those two didn't have to work nearly as hard as Gohan did to become powerful.As far as how they learned Super Saiyan,no clue.

Goten and Trunks (main time line) were both conceived after their fathers became Super Saiyajin. That may have something to do with it.

Vegeta's pride and jealousy hold him back. He's not fighting for the pure joy of it. That's why he will always be inferior to Goku.

Gohan could transform into a Super Saiyajin after having his full potential unlocked, but he would rip the Earth to pieces.

And Kuririn is still stronger than Tenshinhan.

yeah they get stronger by fighting but not as much as after they get hurt badly.

i think either vegeta or goku says this. the point im making anyway is the fact that the difference between ssj2 and ssj3 is just as great if not greater than the difference between ssj1 and ssj2

Reminded me of what an idiot Vegeta used to be.

He always wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed,but later on even if it was because of sheer stupidity,he always had a reason behind that stupidity(Mostly driven behind him wanting to become stronger).

However.

Vegeta going around on Planet Namek claiming to be a Super Saiyan when he wasn't even close yet,and didn'e even know what it looked WAS just stupidity.I guess at that level he was on Namek,he would have been considered legendary,but man that doesn't make him look any better

What's so ironic is that Vegeta's one of the most intelligent fighters in DBZ as it's been somewhat stated by both Piccolo and King Yama. I don't believe that he's stupid, but does silly things at times.
