I saw this as a favorite under TeamFourStar's name...and after watching it I realized that this was...surprisingly decent IMO

It's sad to think a movie with a multimillion dollar budget probably won't beat that. They had some really good effects that drew me into the fight. The fact that they choreographed everything then sped it up was cool because it looked more precise.

Just curious, is there like an actual Dragon Ball/Z Canon Guide out there? I don't want some stupid bs fan made one that doesn't utilize any factual sources or what not, but one that is actually close to being legit, like the SF Canon Guide.

If there isn't one, then someone needs to make one.

Really late about this but whatever. The most official sources are from Toei themselves. They put out 7 books called Daizenshuu. Each one covered a specific topic including a very complete canon and timeline. Unfortunately they had a limited print run and were only available in Japan, so the entire collection in good quality is quite rare and expensive. Interestingly enough, Viz is bringing out the 1st Daizenshuu to America in October or so, but that is just the artbook. The rest could come out, but it's unlikely.

And that was the best DBZA yet. Can't wait for the next one.

I was at work today and I looked at the reserve list and 2 things caught my eye....2 different dbz games that I hadn't even heard of before.

Dragon ball Z: Infinite World and Dragon ball Z: Origins

One I know is at least a ds game...I'm looking around the internet now to try to find out more about these cause this is the first time I've heard of these 2 games. If anyone finds some info on them before I find some...would you mind posting it up?

Edit: Ok apparently infinite world is for the ps2...so origins must be for the ds

Edit2: can't find any official info right now....but speculation is Infinite World = either T4 or something called Final Budokai while Origins is possibly going to be an rpg

it actually says here that the rumor was false and apparently Fox is actually jiggy with the movie and what not...(na na na na na...nana na!). Apparently they already finished the movie and are adding in the special effects..thus why the date for the movie has been pushed back so far. Fox has seen the first edit and by some act of god they liked the damn thing so much that they're already thinking about a sequal (......Does anybody have the number to their crack dealer?)

apparently the first trailer of the movie is actually going to be shown during max payne...hmmm..guess that's more reason for me to see that movie lol. There's some new screen shots on the website..(goku in that jacket...O.o?) along with some other tidbits...like how Chi Chi fighting style is now closer to muay thai...and Goku's is a mix of capoeira. I must be reeeeally missing something here...

Y'know I was watching some old dbz eps out of boredom today and I wonder why some more lines in the old ocean dub didn't become memes like the Over 9000 one. Like when Nappa says "What?! No way, How 5000??!" I think that would have been a funnier meme than over 9000. It was even more over dramatic. Shit had me rolling. Another one was when Vegeta was said "Kakarot, you're FINIIIISHED!!" They way he said it was so epic. A lot of them change in between, just like in the US everyone liked Hyperbolic Time Chamber and Trunks Power Up but when they got the track the beginning was actually different and not that good.

That theme I would hear a lot, I also remember hearing it during one of the movies so if it's not part of the anime tracks then it's definitely on one of the movie tracks.

After my friends mentioned this to me, I was thinking. Now, we all know that Trunks came from the future (which was very messed up), and dealt with two beings that were stronger than Frieza. Answer this. Why wasn't Future Trunks by far the strongest person on the planet when he first showed up? Also, Goku defendins Trunks' sword with one finger was complete bs, and that sword should've cut Goku in half just like Frieza. Trunks was going head-to-head with two beings who were stronger than Frieza in his time, and he's been a Super Saiyan longer than Goku (there's no way that should've went down).

Cell defeated Goku in the Cell Games, and later killed him while dying himself soon after. Since Cell was far more powerful than Goku, Goku didn't stand a chance against him when King Kai told about what was going on HFIL/HELL (which makes sense). Pikkon comes on the scene and cleans up Cell like a jobber and everyone else, leaving Goku very impressed. Now, in the tournament when Pikkon and Goku were fighting each other, how come Goku didn't die again from taking those attacks from Pikkon who beaten Super Perfect Cell? Also, when did Goku learn that he could mix Kaioken with SSJ? BS!!

I can't really remember if he trained or not before he fought pikkon, but he definitely spent time training on yardrat (think thats the name of the planet he was on) after he fought frieza and escaped namek. He was gone for like year.

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH....whoops. So anyway I believe the break down on what's been going on with alvin also has to do with the current debate that's been going on at newgrounds for sometime... Some newgrounders have suddenly come out of no where and been bashing sprite flashes or anything that has anything with a resemblence of flash in it EVEN if it has a good script and it's been done well. Most of them have been saying that the artwork has been stolen, sprites are lame and ugly, blah blah blah...and it often resorts with them attacking the author in a most heinous way sometimes which is really stupid and fuckin childish. Especially considering that Newgrounds is Newgrounds...for fuck's sake their moto is 'Everything made by Everyone' or whatever and Newgrounds actually has a long history of awesome sprite flashes in the past. I think there is room for both honestly like it has been in the past but people are starting to get immature.

Long story short though, what I said above with a combination of people hounding him about the episode started to take a toll on him I believe so he decided to take a break. Having a slight lack of motivation wasn't helping matters with people pushing and badgering him so he needed to get away for a moment and then come back.

From what I understand, Goku could have beaten Cell, it's just that he thought it best to leave earth's fate in it's other heroes, specifically Gohan. Also yah, he trained on Yardat, Goku probably got a lot out of that training, doesn't have to make sense to you =P

season 3 goku is getting beat by frieza after freiza raises his power to 50%,goku

is about to give up when he starts having visions and realizes if he doesn't defeat

I am beyond impressed with the length, quality, choreography and ingenuously complex plot that has been infused all in one story- fan made, no less.

EP.6 had some of the best fight sequences I have seen in ANY medium, PERIOD. And episode 7 pushed the originality further by adding a some neat plot twists and additions to an already great story.

The scary part is that the creator Alvin-Earthworm takes a long reprieve but does most of his work in under a month! How the hell...?!!!:looney:

Bardock and Trunks were probably the best movies which is interesting considering they aren't part of the numbered series. My favorite though were 'World's Strongest' and 'Rebirth of Fusion' shits too good. WS had the best story, atmosphere and general feel IMO and RoF has the best animation and such.

-Dead Zone
-The World's Strongest
-Tree of Might
-Cooler's Revenge (except, the final battle was stale, considering that this was Frieza's brother we're dealing with)
-Return of Cooler (AKA sorry about the lackluster final battle in the last one)

My favorite movie was Tree of Might because Turlis was a cool "evil Goku" and the fighting and story (ENERGY BLAST!!!!) felt like it could be canon.

Story of Trunks is my second favorite because it gave sense of true hopelessness, which contrasted well with the "HOPE!" painted on the time machine in the end.

For me, Tree of Might would be up there with Dead Zone, World's Strongest, and Bojack Unbound, but the Z-Fighters (minus Goku) got their heads handed to them and Piccolo only showed up to be cannon fodder for Turles! They should have, AT LEAST, won their battles and get their asses kicked by Turles near the end!

Aside from that, I really do love the movie and it was kinda hard not to rank it up there with the three I picked as my faves. The musical score was bitchin', though.

Future Trunks TV special was nice.

To be honest, I didn't really like the movies that much. It was nice though in the last Z movie that they explained how Trunks got the sword. Bardock was a good special too.

The first Broly movie was interesting, probably because everyone was mad excited about Broly.

One being the part where Goku and Vegeta used the fusion dance to form Gogeta, whom IMO looked cooler than Vegetto. Is Gogeta even a Toriyama design? Regardless Gogeta's design* was awesome, despite him only appearing for a couple of minutes.

The second scene I liked was Gohan killing Freeza with ONE punch. (Toei gut punch I believe).

Funny lol thought that's not the Toei punch...Toei punch is a last resort move that generally SHOULDN'T work but it does anyway to work as a plot device especially when the writers have created an entity that probably is getting a bit out of hand in which the only solution would be to come up with something completely ridiculous just to get rid of it.....What happened to brolly in the first movie? Good lord.Dude... they're bad. They're very, very bad. If they had the exact same plots but had a new set of characters unrelated to Dragon Ball, the movies would have a hard time getting a direct-to-video release, let alone a theatrical release.

One of the criticisms that often gets lobbed at Dragon Ball is that it's all a bunch of mindless fighting. It's not an entirely fair claim to make in reference to the series, but it's absolutely accurate for the movies.

I always assumed his inspiration was the Ginyu Toksentai. He was on Namek fighting them when they were doing all that shit and he picked it up from them.

Is it the ACTUAL reason? Most likely no, its Toriyama parodying Mazinger Z poses and shit. The BEST explanation and most obvious one would be that he was mimicking the heroes he saw on TV and comic books, but in that outback neck of the woods Gohan didn't watch TV or read comic books.

Thus in terms of making it make sense in the canon the Ginyu explanation is the best.

Broly was clotheslining ALOT of people in that movie. I can recall most of them from memory starting with the one you mentioned. Gohan sort of caught one when Broly busted through the wall like the koolaid man and smashed his head against the wall, drove him through it...SIDEWAYS while dragging him before finally flinging him the rest of the way. Goku caught at least 2 of them, the one I specifically remember being the one that Broly did on his wake up which was funny as hell. Vegeta caught that shit the worst in that movie though lol.

And the plot of the series isn't the point. If you boil it down, each story cycle (or saga) is all essentially the same formula. House M.D. is a pretty good analog: if you're looking for plot, you're just going to see the same one over and over again. Every single episode is the same as the one before it. But what matters are the characters and the themes. They're what make the stories interesting.

Look at the number of people Goku comes into contact with from the beginning of the story to the end, and look at how many of their lives were positively impacted because of it. Yeah, Dragon Ball is superficially all about battles and comic fantasy, but there's way more to it than that. Taking it at face value is a big mistake. In the movies, however, face value is the only thing it has.

As I said, a couple of them have redeeming traits--the way movie 12 refuses to take itself seriously, for example. But for the most part, there's no reason to watch them aside from repetition and pretty colors, and you can get those things from an episode of Blue's Clues.

Next you're gonna compare Lil'Jon to Beethoven.Why not? Fair game, I say.

Sometimes, it's due to the Manga not being quite caught up yet. Like, Toei waiting for Toriyama to begin the next arc. Sometimes, it's simply a nice way to cash in on the franchise over the summer.

The filler episodes of the series (e.g. Goku and Piccolo driving) were the ones that stalled for time while Toriyama produced more manga.

(To the guy who was asking, one new half-hour episode of Dragon Ball was broadcast every week during the show's original run. At this pace, the animation studio was adapting episodes of the comics faster than their creator could produce them. So the studio would come up with original episodes that didn't have any consequences on the larger story arc, and they broadcasted those to give the comics time to catch up.)

I liked the Goku vs Piccolo fight from the end of Dragon Ball, and also the final battle from the Lord Slug movie, which was sort of a nod to it.

Well as for me, my favorite DBZ fight was Goku vs Majin Vegeta, the sheer intensity of the brawl was so much fun to watch.

Favorite moments:

-The grabbing knee fiesta. 2:00

-The quinessential DBZ strong attack miss with counter. 3:41

-My best moment, Goku punching the hell out of Vegeta with giants slabs of rock attached to his hands, breaking them on his face! :cool::p: 7:32

Thanks for bringing up the 1st Goku v Vegeta fight, that particular version especially. I got through about 3 minutes on the 1st part and had to search out the Japanese dub. There were so many edits that it didn't have the same impact as the Japanese one.

The dub did wonderfully sometimes, especially Brian Drummond, but they couldn't pull of the epic-ness of the Japanese dub.

Either of the Goku v Vegeta fights gets my vote.

With the American dub I'd be inclined to agree as it's completely shitty. With the Japanese dub I disagree. Not saying it's not great, but it's not completely bad either. I'm convinced that a DB remake without so much filler would be the best Shonen anime ever.

TRUTH. Personally, I would love to see some insane fans out there create an edit of the series where they remove as much filler as possible. Honestly, you could probably cut out 100 episodes worth of footage easily.

As far as great battles go, I'd have to agree with everyone who mentioned Goku vs. Vegeta. The Freeza battle was good, but it was less personal and edged further and further out of Dragon Ball's comic fantasy and closer to sci-fi. Goku and Vegeta was David vs. Goliath, the lowly peasant vs. the greatest of the aristocrats. And Vegeta's reasons for fighting were a little more complex and mysterious. He was willing to wipe out the only remaining members of his race in order to enforce his own need to be superior--and he was very nearly validated, had it not been for the intervention of the other Earthlings. Terrific battle.

The Freeza battle wins points for giving Vegeta a little slice of redemption, plus showing the other side of the coin: Goku having to finally put an end to a villain who refused to be redeemed.
