There's the original French news story, anyway the movie will be directed by Christopher Gans, the same guy who did Silent Hill.

Can you guys say Jean Reno in Onimusha 3 movie? XD

Well that's one less complaint people will make about the movie..

Too bad it's all moot anyway, since Samanosuke ends up just being the threshold guardian for someone else.

With Silent Hill, Gans set the path for video game adaptations to the big screen, not without a few troubles but succeeding where the others had failed before him.
The adaptation process has always been an excercise in it of itself, each media having it's own language, be it from book, comic book or video game to movie. Silent hill lay the first solid brick in the foundation of video game adaptations to the big screen, leaving Paul Anders (Resivent Evil) and others to play in their little sandbox.

Christophe Gans' new project is Onimusha; once again a video game saga which Capcom released 6 episodes on PlayStation 2. A lighter task than Silent Hill (which Gans will not make a sequel of) which will allow the producer to include swordfighting, a genre which he enjoys.

As a summary: Onimusha tells the tell in the 16th century of a Samurai who left to save his damsel from the holds of a demon army. Originally announced for filming in 2007, it will start in february 2008 in China for a releases estimated between September and Cember 2009. The budget is fixed at 70 million (unlike Silent Hill which had 50 million), always under the custody of producer Samuel Hadida, faithful to all works of Christophe Gans.
The scenario is written by Lesley Krueger who worked on Silent Hill at the production level, and of course John Collee who signed with Peter Weir, of Master and Commander. A great news indeed.

As far as casting goes, nothing is official just yet. But we can reveal that the main role will be held by Takeshi Kaneshiro, an actor well know for asian cinema fans; more specifically Wong Kar-Wai's Chunking Express, House of flying Daggers where he played alongside Andy Lau or his main role in The Returner and the more recent Perhaps Love. A choice well justified since he lent his face to the look to the hero of the game Onimusha as shown with the artwork which surround the game.

Evidently there are still many elements to be unveiled regarding this project. It's not thanks to luck that we have kept the second part of the interview with Gans, the first half being dedicated to Silent Hill for it's dvd release last December.
See you then soon for a gigantic preview of this movie which will reveal much more on what this producer has in mind with several exclusives.

I was bored so I translated.

Wow. Silent Hill was my favorite video game to live action movieadaptation from Hollywood!

And Takeshi Kaneshiro speaks English too. He speaks about 4 different languages!

I'm really excited! This is gonna blow all of those Resident Evil movies out of the water. :lovin:

You say that like it's an accomplishment.

Well for Hollywood video game movies yeah since IMHO there are only 2 good ones, Silent Hill and Mortal Kombat 1. For Hollywood it will be an accomplishment as far as video games to movies go.

I don't have to tell you that Jessica Biel as Chun-Li = failure, course I hope I'm wrong about that... (And that the Jessica Biel thing is just a dumb ass rumor...)

Pete Jackson executive producing Halo and not directing worries me... PJ hasn't let me down before but I'm still kind of worried. On top of that, I'm not sure what kind of movie Halo would make since most of what the game does is borrow heavily off a bunch of existing sci-fi movies anyway. Guess we'll see.

Oh and Uwe Boll needs to die...

As for PJ not directing, think of it this way.

Do you know how many versions of LOTR were released on DVD? Like 20 per movie. All with 8 additional hours of walking.

Then when King Kong came out, like 4 months later there was an "Extended" cut, which was another 4 hours of a CGI monkey fighting a T-Rex. Sounds awesome tho.

If he directs Halo (FYI I despise Halo and everything it represents. Frat boys ftl) then in 4 months after the DVD hits expect to see a "Special Extended Directors Cut" with MC walking around in a desert, or a space station. Or just 4 hours of Space shots. Hell, it could just be 4 hours of footage of people playing the fucking game! Peter Jackson CANNOT make a simple movie!

to be honest, i'd rather that they kept this CG cuz that opening scene in Oni3 and the final fight scene in DoD was fuckin' SICK! i'd love to see a full movie done like that but...it'll take 'em like 5 years to complete it so...whatever.

Incredible. I thought that the opening for 2 was good, but the 3rd is godly. I must get that game now.

That's what makes it awesome, they DID use him for the face-capture of the character model in the first place. It's gonna be like seeing a real-life Samanosuke on the damn screen...and no matter how the movie turns out that will still be badass.

Logical he was the voice in the video game and the character design too.

I'm just hyped that he's gonna play Zhuge Liang in the Dynasty Warriors movie!!!

but im definitely gonna check Onimusha when it drops.

I just didn't care for token Black guy dying in MK1 that needed to get avenged and Shang Tsung not transforming into Liu Kang in the final fight because OH COME ON lol! Other than that it is a great movie and no comment on Hollywood SF.
