A set I played early this week versus Mash Throw. Some nice Urien mirrors and quality play from Mash Throw throughout. I struggled after switching to Ken as the connection seemed to get progressively worse. There are a few instances where I hit Ken's target combo but the super input doesn't come out. In some cases I just stand there in disbelief. :lol: There's also a point where it looks as though I'm mashing Ken's F + MK. In actuality I was trying to buffer C.MK, SA3 but the connection was making my inputs far, far too coarse for things to register. Still a very nice set. MashThrow's Chun, Ken and Urien were all top-notch. :tup:

A few games between myself and SF & Pros last night. Some exciting matches. Not to impune SF & Pros' game, but the connection from my side was beyond horrible. :(

Ok. This is me trying to beat Harmonaz, by relentlessly mashing my Ken into his poke strings and deliberately eating supers to give him a false sense of confidence. There was a point where I was going to hit him back, but I missed.

I tried to stay away from him in the hope that he'd get tired and wander off, but he kept fighting back. This was a difficult set. The game where Naz plays Q is really nice :tup:

Yup. I'm a stubborn bastard most of the time, going for tackles where I'm confident the connection will just give me something else. Believe it or not, I can hit Tackle, Tackle, Headbutt offline about 1 in 4. At that particular point though, I wanted as much guaranteed damage as I could get in. I have an accute recollection (even now) of making that decision as the C.HP hits during that match.

I missed almost every tackle, and Rage got 2 crucial misses on one of Dudley's advancing punch confirms (though I don't know the character well enough to say which punch it is), allowing me to scam two rounds.

I dunno what the hell to do against Dudley when he wants to advance. I don't seem to have the pokes to stop him. I'd like to think this is a Dudley vs Urien thing, but it's probably just that Rage has the better timing and range awareness.

Speaking of confirming in lag, you should've played Exodus :badboy: He'd miss some stuff first match, maybe blob a parry, mess up a combo, or something. That was your chance, because after one match, that was it, he'd adapt to lag like the fucking Borg. Played offline style right through it. Like a hot knife through butter.

I did a double EX headbutt on Rage yesterday after I parried his SA1 (Dudley's) in the air when he had me in the corner, then I tried to walk over to the other side to set him up for a corner juggle, but somehow I didn't go behind him, and ended up doing C. F-EX HB-EX HB out of sheer desperation........I panicked we could say, and lost that fight because of it.

Nah man, urien is pretty decent at keeping dudley out. You have s.lp,s.mp and t.mp i believe and that dreaded s.hk of his. Those are all good pokes to stop dudleys jumpin. On the ground you have c.mk, s.mk, s.mp and that godly s.hp to stop my dashin. Once you have me second guessing rushing in on you, you have those damn orbs. The thing is Uriens pokes seem to be a little slow at times, so if you want to use them as described above you need to be alittle more on point. Timing is key:tup:
I don't really know how to use urien but this is just advice from what I seen some pretty good Uriens do to me.:wasted:

Advice for Xen:
- Come up with new Poke Strings. The best one I saw was your Ryu's c.Short -> c.Forward -> Hadou. Mashing Shorts and Jabs are ok if you're playing against an aggressive Makoto, but dude -_-; You don't get meter, the way you were mashing them I dunno if you could've even confirmed off of them =( Go with safe whiffs to build meter and to play footsies, 'cause Shorts and Jabs :tdown: are ftl.
- You tick grab way too fast =\
- Don't punish super wide-open whiffs with grabs >.<
- The rest is up to you man. If you want to get good at footsies, play against sneakyrazor ew's Ryu. He does some really amazingly :wtf: shit sometimes but when he plays normally he's amazing at footsies.

Advice for Mullah:
- The delayed buttonmashingoutpriority thing will only last for so long =P You play pretty solid dude, but some of the spamming was predictable =) The rest is all personal judgement.

Next time play faster please -_-; When two people of the same style play each other, you get the type of match you guys had. It's why someone has to take the initiative to make the match more exciting to watch >.<

It's reassuring that good players are calling out the weaknesses that I've identified in my game. Guess that means I know what I need to do to change things. I use C.LK as a substitute far too often, this could be because I play a lot of people overseas and get conditioned to having slower stuff beaten out.

There's a couple of risky things you do which I'm sure will leave your game in due time - but one thing which was seriously lacking was how you wouldn't really plan your followups to every move. Mullah and Rage would counter some of your rushes in very common ways which with some thought - you could have 'countered their counters'.

Nice matches, enjoyed watching them. Your Urien is good but pretty static. Most movement came from specials (headbutt, shoulder) or jumping FK otherwise you'd sit there poking away. Move around more. Move in and out of poking range, bait stuff, get some movement going. Reko's movement is pretty smart and granted, Yang is the faster character, but you can see how he baits stuff and creates openings that way. You do that with Ryu pretty well, just your Urien seems a bit static at times. Your Ryu has some nice block strings too.

Shame you don't live nearer London fella, it would be nice to play you having seen these vids!

I think some people may have missed my original point though. If you follow that set carefully you'll notice that almost every tackle I try, comes out too late. Not only am I lagging, my execution has never been too hot. When I say that I wanted guaranteed damage, I'm meant the most damage output given the easiest possible input and the moves that are least likely to whiff through latency.

This must sound weak to those of you that can land back to back mid-screen unblockables, but like I say, my execution is poor and this is a cross continent connection :( Also, whilst I'm making excuses, Rage also cheats by pulling magical hit confirms out of his ass! There, I think I have myself covered on that one :lol:


Yeah Zen, it's a shame SF & Pros misses that last parry. That would've been a cracking game. But, to his credit, I don't know how the hell he landed the red parry in that connection in the first place. Good show to him. :tup:

A word about SF and Pros: I was more impressed with his execution though. I've always said it to him. He is damn near close to 80% i'd say on his Aegis setups, and reaching further up. his option selecting is on point for the most part, too, which is really what Urien needs to lay the smackdown on his opponents, and he partitions pretty damn good. And since his play is centered around legitimate tactics, and RX vids (lol) it's pretty hard to come out of a set with him and say you didn't enjoy yourself, or that he is lag abusive.

on a negative note, he does sometimes do random tackles and head butts, which blows like a motherfucker, but only to confound and escape my Mak. :lovin:

I would bet that 500 bucks on Shep D against Iceum***, but then again that is indeed an easy bet. However that does not take away from the fact that Shep D is a random player that would get dusted by any blocking opponent offline.... just happens to be much better at randomness than the Ice-Um guy in this case, and that is just IMO of course so take it however you want. Not trying to start beef or anything, just giving my opinion regarding who is good at this game from what I have seen so far.

Now, if you haven't played me, I suck, big time. I get good advice from the good players here that I face, but I'd love more advice on what I can improve on. Also, it'd probably just be funny to watch one of my matches. Haha

I never said that you could be "unpredictable" at 3S, nor did I say that there's a difference between random and unpredictable.

I merely said that 3S rewards and encourages random play. Not everyone is random, but some people can use that to their advantage and get away with it.

You didn't need to go through all that trouble and cut-and-paste whatever dictionary.com had to say about the subject matter. I disagree with this criticism, Kunai. It seems to come, more often than not, from players who prefer the more rigid gameplay mechanics of SF2. That's fair enough. SF2 is a great game but, for me at least, the coarseness of gameplay at any one moment is too limited.

The additions 3S has over SF2 go a long way toward eliminating stagnant aspects of play. Yes, to some extent they limit the potency of zoning, but who really wants to watch full-screen fireball battles anyway? Fighting games are all about what happens up close and 3S allows you to get there in more numerous and interesting ways, without making it risk free.

I can't help but think that when this argument crops up, some of the crowd are comparing top-notch ST tournament play, with scrubs thrashing it out on 3S. That's no comparison at all. If you look at high level tournament play instead, the flow of games under 3S shows masses more variety and only minimal randomness.

What a lot of ST players also miss, is that even then, the randomness is, to an extent, a known quantity. It's not like Justin was completely numb-struck when Daigo started to parry his SA2 - as though the concept completely blew his mind. No. Both sides knew the risks and the potential rewards and they played the numbers well. Under ST, Daigo would simply have died.

I think the possibility for diversity at every turn lends 3S players the avenues to demonstrate their skill more often and more insightfully, whilst encouraging players to avoid repetition and predictability, to observe their opponent more closely and to fight with greater psychology awareness than most fighters, exactly because of these unpredictable (but statistically quantifiable) traits.

Rather than make a long post about why I feel that parries change SF too dramatically (already did that in the IV Discussion section), I will say that I respect the opinions that you put forth, Xen Master. I don't agree with the opinions, but I respect them.

In short, I think it was worth a try for Capcom to add parries to the III series. It will always define the series, and I will always be happy that I experienced and thoroughly played all 3 games. It gave me a lot of memorable games and times, but I think IV has the potential to be even better.
