CPS3 no chd/cd hack for 3s

In case admins get pissed about this, this post is about MAME code and different romsets...no illegal roms are being distributed here...

Someone told me to look into it when the first cd-rom loading screen came out but I never had time. I'm guessing people still use the japanese no-cd romset (sfiii3n) to play with 0.117 these days or has gone through the pain of waiting for 40 minutes.... Well, you can turn sfiii3n romset into this: http://kaillera.movsq.net/3sncd/3susncd.gif

hereze how:

open up your src/drivers/cps3.c

find the function "cps3_decrypt_bios"

after the first for loop, add "decrypted_bios[0x1fec8/4] = 0x30202004;"

recompile...and the next time you load sfiii3n, it'll be US/NoCD all in English =)

It means you dont have to wait 40 minutes when you first play a CPS-3 game.

It means you dont have to wait 40 minutes when you first play a CPS-3 game.

.... From U1,U2,U3,U3.1 It always loaded fast on my pc.. in about 10 seconds or less.. but with this bloody 00117 whatever it is... it's so slow!.. and you're telling me I don't have to wait 40 minutes? I never had to since I got this one... grrr.. This emu needs to die by the Misogi and revert to the previous version settings..

Enable Infinite Power P1/P2, Infinite Time, and Infinite Energy P1/P2. Also, if you want to get a perspective on how much damage you're doing this is what I do: I disable the cheats using F6 and then before you/the computer/second player dies hit F6 again and they'll go back up to full health and the time will reset. There's also Auto Blocking and Stun Settings found by people in this thread earlier on (props to you guys these are nifty).

BTW: that also lets you choose the stage and play as Shin Akuma/Gill.

If you don't know how to enable cheats, I'll give you a walk through just tell me. This is for MAME32 (which includes ++).

So have you found out which memory locations are used to store win count of p1 and p2?

Heya. Got a question for you guys.
Has anybody made a GUI-Mame with cps3 capabilities (Kinda like mame32, but I know they haven't updated in a while) and netplay. It'd be nice to play some of you guys online :)

Thanks

Interesting update from Wesker:

((translated by Google Language))

Finally it has happened. ElSemi is carrying its emulator of CPS3 for Windows to Xbox. At the moment it does not have it release public and it will take a little in arriving… but I have had the honor to be able to prove a very premature version and is able to load stable the 60 games working to fps with sound.

Similar miracle has been possible thanks to the use of a VMS, since the 64 Mb of xbox remained short; and a series of optimizations made in the code. By all means not yet there is interface, neither options nor nothing… or I say to you that he is very green. I will be to You informing!

So, yeah, all you XBox-ers should rejoice now. :woot:

Anything wrong with plugging your PC into your TV?

I've got PC-based media boxes running Linux+MythTV+emulators on all my TVs. PC/emulator gaming doesn't have to mean "gaming at a desk".

I've got two questions.

1. What is nvram for? Most of my problems have stemmed from it. And it keeps coming back. Ex. Nocd version saying that I need to install more memory on my pcb. I delete nvram. It works.

2. Can you enable cheats online?

There's no inherent netplay just 'cause its on the xbox, but netplay is possible. I just don't know of any coders that have carried it over to the xbox. Kaillera can't be done because its closed source. Same with GGPO unless they change their stance and release the source (god that'd be nice). Xlink is for commercial xbox games that have LAN play; if a emu coder wanted LAN play on xbox, there's no reason they couldn't code full netplay.

Y'know I'm wondering how hard it would be to make a sort of home edition of SF3 and other CPS3 games would be. Just a small modification that adds an opening screen with a practice mode, normal versus, and the arcade mode of the game and possible a stage selection and easier to get to options menu. Then maybe 'cheats' could sort of be implemented (being able to select Gill, and for the first time in 3S being able to select a glitchy Shin Akuma) also.

I mean it's pretty obvious that SF3:3s has a big audience, modded games would be awesome.

Tiberious
07-30-2007, 10:03 PM
I dunno what the point for that would be, 'cause if you wanted that kind of experience, you can find ways to get the SF3 games with those options. Besides, you couldn't easily have a Gill vs. Gill match in 3S anyway, as both would use the red/blue glowing palette.

As for CPS3 on the XBox, I think that would be completely kick-ass, since that means I can play 'em as they were MEANT to be played: with a stick (been on a 360 pad for the PC versions...).

So its finally happening:

http://www.speksnk.org/host/noticias/uploads/xbox_cpx3_001.png

I just hope it has netplay and plays smooth. ElSemi is a coding genious, if anyone can make a smooth CPS3 emulator for a restricted platform like the Xbox, its him.

Here is what ElSemi has to say about CPX3:

733Mhz of xbox is very right for the CPS3, works to 60fps without frameskip but it goes very to the limit. I have had to use the graphical code of preview 3, with the incorrect transparencies since with the one of v1.0 it cannot by the transparencies. In addition I have had to optimize a pair of things in MMX since if not not habia way to obtain 60fps.

Lookin' good! :smokin:

What's the native resolution of CPS3 3S? The Nebula emulator makes it look a little too widescreen to me.

Gaijinblaze
07-31-2007, 05:44 PM
384 x 224. It's supposed to look widescreen like that. Why they chose to develop games at a ratio different than what the arcade monitors use is beyond my understanding.

Here's hoping Elsemi releases another PC emulator with Kaillera support and a 75% scanline filter so that I can ditch MAME entirely.

Fixed crashing in sfiii3 when Ken finishes Makoto with neutral throw (kicks). It's
actually a bug in the game (fixed in sfiii3a). In the real board it would cause an address
error (misaligned jump) and would reset the machine due to watchdog. In the emu it will just
freeze the game because there is not watchdog, just hit F3 to restart the game.

Weird. I've never heard of this problem.

Here's the palette modifier:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MSYSKJHH
http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=d67b85f5ccbbcb6a4466968160ab65ac

I wanted to release it when I got the preview down, but I could not get it to show correctly. =(

It only works on ...:looney::looney:

Bugs so far are:

Palette index 55 will be black when using colorize/invert.

When you load a file twice in certain conditions, stuff starts messing up.

Bugs sometimes when message box pops up.

If there is anything wrong with the program, please let me know!

-changed

-when loading when elsemis cps3 emu i get crc error [size = different] :o

quick question...which emulator do we stick with then...cuz idk if its just me but i cant save my control configuration on the new update of mame...i configure it then i exit out..but when i play the game again it has a different configuration? so which one u1 or u2?

Shodokan123
08-01-2007, 10:42 AM
that program is hard to use to change pallets, and quite honestly i can't get it to work

i suggest making a tutorial on how to use it, I HIGHLY SUGGEST adding a color pallet like photoshop has so you can just select the color yourself that way instead of needing to know the RGB numbers which 99% of people even who are into those things wont know.

MaybeMemories
08-01-2007, 11:35 AM
^no that silly and will be the same causing more hassel for the programmer, even if the colours were spoon fed to the user he still wont know the end result quality,
If you know what you want then you will obviously screen cap your character in photoshop and adjust its color balance for the best outfit and colorpick the rgb from there
EVEN if the program had a color picker you will still end up with a jumbled up odd looking pallette

Mr. Brooks
08-01-2007, 12:15 PM
I don't supposed anyone's figured out how to turn the rom's BGM off, have they? Probably a long shot, but hey.

BTW if we could change the pallette for the super shadows, that would awesome, instead shades of blue, shades of red :O

http://www.ilovenicii.com/c.JPG
it works ONLINE, not sure if this is due the fact people cant use the sf3 rom direct since it rewrites the game and takes 30min or so . But the no cd still makes use of the original ? off or online.
ANYWAY obviously online the opponent will not see the color change as you own the changed file.

This is how u get it to work
-extract the file 51 from your zip
-Open the program then FILE > load ROM [select 51]
-Select your character select the colour and change the RGB value*
-Not sure if u need to press APPLY? But to save changes FILE>PATCH ROM
-Drag 51 back into your zip

test it online?

*Personally id take a normal screen cap into photoshop, change the colorbalance/hue and make note of the rgb values using color picker for specific results.

Theres also loading ACT option there, not sure if mugen made act files will work here, but great work all the same**

youre gonna need to use SELECT > COLORRANGE in photoshop to highlight the areas one color covers then paint over it, when done use screen cap of original along side pallette in the program so u know what to change, RGB values match up, give or take a few numbers.

I really didn't know if it was safe to let you guys know about how to make it work with nebula but just extract your zip file into it's folder. Instead of roms/sfiii3.zip, extract it into roms/sfiii3/.

It should be very easy to add a color picker like window's swatch so I'll get on that later today. Then I'll look for the after-image on ex's and supers.

The main idea right now is to select (multiple) the appropriate colors on the palette, and modify the HSL to your liking. I know it's hard to see and select without a preview but the way that I thought 100% sure would work is not implementing too well.

EDIT: My bad =/ I forgot to remove something.

what are the plans for the preview button?

A single sprite per character that opens up in another window. What I had planned originally was to randomize the palette with no duplicate entries, load character with the randomized palette through the emulator, save the screenshot, and get every color in the image and assign it to the entry in the saved ACT file. Some entries aren't assigned correctly and the result is a preview with some missing colors.

When you click apply, the memory in the program updates it's core values from the palette. It does not patch.

When you click revert, it restores when you first loaded or last apply/patch.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you want to copy from a char to another, just save the palette, and load it when another is selected.

Fresh patch.. meaning, when you load the file? I made 3 modifications to Yun's mp and patched them separately and it looks fine.

I'll explain how it works...

When you load a 51, it reads all of the palettes on the file the program supports into program memory. When you click apply, or select yes to apply changes, the memory gets updated with the modifications, not the actual 51. When you patch, *(it applies THEN) it takes what's in memory and replaces the 51 palette's with the one in program memory. All changes you want to see in the game must be patched.

So, I've tried to fiddle with this too.

-changed
-applyed settings
-patched rom [51]

and i added it back to my zip but when loading VIA mame = i see no changes
-when loading when elsemis cps3 emu i get crc error [size = different] :o

Same story for me, despite following your how-to. I believe. What did you switch between the above post and your later one, to get it to fly?

The only reason why you might not see changes in files immediately with mame (unlike nebula, where it is loaded on the fly) is because mame loads files differently.. I think. (This is why it loads faster than the first time you load the game.) I tried it on mame and I saw no differences. What might work is loading a different game, like NG or Warzard, then reloading sfiii3 to refresh it's files. My laptop won't let me do that though.

It's fine on nebula though. Again, to load modified files, extract the sfiii3 zip into roms\sfiii3\ in the nebula folder.

hi, here's what I came up with.

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p270/akubin/Love.png

I tried loading a palette I made for mugen and it didn't work, the whole palette displayed black, as I just tried twice, and as there may be many possible reasons for this not to work, please feel free to try on your side.

The reason my changes would not show up in Mame at first were that it was using the nvram. I got rid of it and my changes were there.
I only patched the NOCD version for now, as having custom palettes to show up in SF3 (with CD) would require deleting its nvram and thus re-flashing the CD for 20 minutes. So I'll do it when I got all my palettes straight, in case I wanna do more.
Haven't tried in Elsemi's emu yet.

Nice work Suupabuu, really. Thanks!

PS : extra misc stuff, will you add paletting for small portraits as well? (not that I think it matters, I'm just curious)

PPS: on a side note, you spoke earlier about collision boxes, velocities and animation data... I understand it may not have much interest for your paletting programm, but is there a chance that you would share that particular knowledge with other people? I'm thinking of mugen people of course as they sure could use that kind of info.
Don't mind me if you've been flooded with PMs begging for that, I really don't mean to be rude and understand the huge amount of work it already required to achieve your first version and the lot more work you''l have to go through to implement further changes.
keep it up!

The ACT file is just for a means of portability and being able to load it in Photoshop. When you rip from a pcx and set a palette, the indexes that assign to the SF3 palette get mangled.

I will add support to modify the nv ram.. will be easy. Deleting the nvram let the NOCD version load it's palettes? Or NOCD and the original?

Thanks! =D

Yes. Patching the NOCD rom and deleting its nvram is enough for it to load, my SF3 (with CD) is untouched (and the time I tried to modify it I hadn't deleted the nvram, I guess that may be why it couldn't load anymore-plus I'd set its nvram to read only).

Does u3 have any new scanline filters? I don't get why they always have a 20:1 ratio of normal pseudo-upscaling (ie. crap) filters to scanline ones. And the one scanline filter they do put in has some odd scaling properties that distorts text and sharp edges. Don't they know most people are using these updates for 3S?

With all and with that at present functions better than the U64 Emu with the Killer Instinct 2, XBoyAdvance or PCSXbox.

You recall that still is in development

oh, if... I forgot the warzard playable, with slowings against large enemies

ElSemi also says there will be no transparencies and no image filters like 2xSai etc because the emu barely runs fullspeed with no image filters activated. Of course, this could change.

Thanks, but I didn't mean the in-game screen. I mean the main menu that comes up when you start MAME. There's nothing on the screen except the game names and a few tabs above them showing game information. Ugh, maybe I shouldn't have chosen to hide all the toolbars and everything else. Really bit me in the ass a few minutes later.

PS. New Generation Dudley = :looney:

Edit: Nevermind, I fixed it. Went into the "ini" folder, opened mame32u1 config file and found the right option, changed the 1 to a 0... seemed to work.

Edit2: I just found out something else that maybe people know already. You know how official MAME32 has those scanline and other effects as PNGs in the artwork folder? Well you can copy and paste them into MAME++'s artwork folder and access them through default game options->advanced->visual effects. The odd thing is, they seem to be applied separately from "image enhancement" which were the normal filters. I suppose I'll mess around with it more. Unfortunately without an image enhancement, it seems kinda blurry regardless of the visual effect.

No, Naomi hasn't been emulated yet.

And now back to the more important topic of scanlines. What settings do you arcade jockeys use? The visual effects method basically just pastes scanlines onto the screen while leaving it blurry as shit, so I tried combining it with Kreed's Super Eagle and it looks decent, not too overprocessed. Any other ideas?

I'm not understanding how 3S can look so good with scanlines on a 29" arcade monitor, but I can't even match it on my computer.

Will there be such CPS3-compatible MAME ports for the PSP (supposing that the above shown version is already a shoe-in for the PS3 and XB360)?

I highly doubt it.

Several pages back I said the XBox version wouldn't run at full speed (despite some genius responses that virtual memory would save it) , even on it's 733MHz CPU. So far all feedback has confirmed that.

Given that the PSP is a 200-300MHz CPU (scalable frequency), and that despite it being an efficient CPU, MAME is still written in high-level C/C++, and is incredibly MHz-limited.

For example, a 2GHz PowerPC gives you roughly the same performance in day-to-day processing as a 3GHz P4 would in your average desktop and/or workstation applications. Yet under MAME, the 3GHz P4 blitzes the 2GHz PowerPC, because again MAME (and most emulators for that matter) are grossly MHz limited due to their CPU-to-CPU, cycle-for-cycle translation of code. Quality of the core processor doesn't mean a hell of a lot. Even if the PSP was the equivalent of a 600MHz Intel chip in raw FPU performance, that still cuts it way short of an acceptable target for CPS3 emulation.

PS3 and Xbox 360 are fine targets for CPS3 emulators thanks to their main CPU raw clockspeeds. XBox is pushing it. PSP doesn't stand a chance.

We aren't talking Donkey Kong here on a 25 year old M68K chip running at 4MHz. SH-3 CPUs are bitches to emulate at the best of times.

She has a point...you ARE a girl right? I have the impression you are for some reason.

I played Double Upper on PSP and god it was a shitty experience. It's okay if you get used to it though. I dont know how I could play SFIII on PSP.

It depends on the demand and whether there is some energetic emu author or porter around.

For Xbox, we were all very lucky to have Xport around as he has churned out the most emulators for the Xbox and has kept them up-to-date.

If I'm on mistaken. Elsemi's emu is much better in terms of quality than the Mame Emu. Although ElSemi's does not come with online play...its a sacrifice some people will take. In other words, Elsemi's emu is made much better than the Mame ones.

Wrong, ElSemi's emulator uses a sprite filter that can't be disabled, and MAME is using the original game resolution, stretched to fit your damn screen.

Thanks, works great now. This thing is so fun to play around with! If only there was a simple way to copy and paste palettes, making direct transfers very quick. Combined with the ability to select any palettes you want (hold Ctrl for anyone who doesn't know), you could get some nice results in a short time. Maybe I should stop being so lazy.

Yea I'll make a thread to stop cluttering this one up.

If you want to patch the mame, go to options, select mame exe. After you patch the 51, select patch mame exe (or check auto-patch after the exe is selected, and just patch normally). Note that only the vc version of ddemame 117 is supported (thats all I use) but if you need another version let me know.

And that copy idea sounds good.

Icons for interface finished
Able to return to interface from in-game
Currently settings are adjusted through EMULATOR.INI file
Optimizations made to virtual memory usage, now runs smoother than ever
Option to main aspect ratio

ElSemi has also commented that the slowdowns caused by the sprite-zooming can be fixed causing the emulator to run at a constant 60FPS!

How you may ask? He plans to handle the zooming via Direct3D (D3D). Simply genius if you ask me. He has planned to take a short break from coding though which he really does deserve.

Has Naomi been emulated already? MvC 2 emulated?

Dreamcast emulation is starting to come along nicely. Given that NAOMI is nearly identical to Dreamcast (double the system and video RAM, but with an identical CPU), it's not impossible.

There's Chankast:
http://www.chanka.org/

DEmul:
http://demul.emulation64.com/

...And others.

With that said, it will take an enormous amount of processing power to do it. It's a 200MHz SH-4 processor, PLUS a PowerVR 3D processor for video. We're not talking simple stuff here.

3GHz+ x86 CPUs plus newish video cards are the recommended minimum for Dreamcast emulation at the moment.

Quite frankly, I don't see why people get so giddy over DC/NAOMI emulation. Given that you can pick up a DC off eBay for $20, and given that the console spits out native 480p RGB/VGA, it's a cheap, readily available console with arcade perfect ports of MvC2 and CvS2. I've got 2 consoles in arcade machines at home (1 horizontal for fighters, 1 vertical for shmups) and honestly they're one of the best consoles you can buy for arcade translations. I don't see why anyone would bother with an emulator.

Not only are Celerons junk, but having so little RAM is definitely going to hurt performance as well. Prebuilt machines tend to use low-end, low quality parts too... Just adding more RAM should help a LOT though.

Anyways, my specs:

OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4C (2.4GHz, currently overclocked to 3GHz)
RAM: Corsair 1GB DDR400
GPU: Radeon 9800 Pro
HDD: Western Digital Raptor 36GB (and 3 other HDD's)

Runs CPS3 games super smooth

Remember, Mame32 benefits most from adding more CPU power, then memory and upgraded video card.

Netplay, hackability (palette editors, etc), it can be portable (laptops), it's free (although maybe not legal depending on the laws where you live), the list goes on. Emulation is rad.

Free? A $20 Dreamcast versus a $2000 PC needed to emulate Dreamcast/NAOMI games? Your cost analysis is lost on me, I'm afraid.

I've heard people whine about PS2 emulation not happening fast enough for the same reasons. When you can buy a PS2 for around US$120 or less, it sure beats the shit out of a multi-thousand-dollar PC required to play PS2 emulation.

And I'm afraid Palette editors do little to increase my skill as a player, which is probably the only thing I care about in-game. Bling excites me not.

The same reason people were giddy about CPS3.

1. online play
2. readily accessible to any computer (I can put MAME on a thumb drive and play it at college, and people also like to play on their laptops)
3. they don't have to take out a console and put in a CD everytime they want to play a certain game
4. and some people such as myself enjoy being able to take screen shots, alter the way the game is rendered by using screen effects, and even being able to record video/inputs.

I guess it's personal preference. None of those things excite me.

1+2. I play versus real people standing next to me on a cabinet, which is in my house that I own (college was a long, long time ago for me).

4. I'd rather my cabinet's oldschool low-res monitor than high-res upscaled ugliness of an emulator. Recording videos is simple too - RGB into the cabinet, video out split off into a digital camcorder for DVD-quality video recording of matches, and no lag/interference/performance drop while playing.

3. And taking 60 seconds out of my life to change a CD is not what I'd call a good enough reason to play games on an overpriced PC compared to a console (is your time really that precious? If so, what is it you do? Because even at the $120/hr I charge for IT security consulting, I'm cool with "wasting" 60 seconds changing a disc.)

All fair enough if you're a college kid with a laptop, I guess. But again, absolutely none of that excites me. But I guess I'm an old fart now, and one who grew up in an era of playing flesh-and-blood people in arcades for real, not faceless online competitors with lag. Each to their own.

Now that you guys mention it, I'm sure he's already gotten all the bothering he needs from other people when it comes to netplay. But looks like I'll have to mention the other stuff myself because I doubt anyone else cares about that.

I downloaded Nebula and apparently you can do the same thing I did with the MAME .png scanline stuff earlier. Just copy and paste the .dll video plugins, and put them into the CPS3 emu's plugin folder and some of them will appear in the toolbar's filter menu. Problem is, they're useless because they seem to be glitchy or something. Weird green things all over the screen and odd scaling, but it's pretty funny to watch cel-shaded 3S running at a terrible frame rate.

Damn, unfiltered 75% SL doesn't seem to exist anywhere. There are all these other 75% variations, and unfiltered 50%, but no 75%. Sucks how he skipped the exact one I want. :bluu:

Figured I'd also give Mario (the character) a shot for my first try putting a modified palette into the game. You can get some amazing results because of the colour depth, since there are so many palettes. It does make it difficult and tedious, but the results are nice. Can't wait to try more.

Edit: edited it to be more like mario. the subtler colours don't stand out too much in the game like the other one did.

I agree, a powerful comp is not needed to run the DC emu smoothly(same goes for Mame, kawaks, CPS3, etc).

I can run NullDC and Chankast on my pussy little laptop.

I just wish there was a no background patch for MvC2 and CvS2. It handles the training mode stages smooth as silk. But it starts to slow down on the more complex 3D backgrounds

This might be a stupid question, but is there some way to make the patched colours appear for both players on kaillera? I noticed that it comes up just fine for me, but my opponent didn't see it. Will it always be that way no matter what? And yes I'm aware of the ethical issues that arise when it comes to using customized colours against other people, but I at least want to know whether or not it's possible.

I guess it is possible if both of you use the same ROMs and Non-Volatile RAM files.

Here is a thread that may help you with this :

http://randomselect.i-xcell.com/forum/index.php?topic=3550.msg25597#msg25597

E/YaoIori briefly explains the different possible ways to rip graphics with mame, and lets you download a hacked version he made to disable layers for ripping.
Send him a word to thank him if it helps you!:wgrin:

And, thanks for the new version of your prog Suupabuu! It's really cool!

Will you also add misc objects like tengu stone floating toys and rocks or oro's turtle, or are you done now?... Should I understand you're gonna enable backgroung paletting as well?

EDIT ::: and for the guys just above my post, yes, if your oppenent has patched his file 51 the same way, he will see your palette. I tried it with a friend.

Thanks for the link I'll definitely let him know. And glad you like the new version =)

I'd rather take the all the projectiles and other stuff like dudley's car as a request because it's too many to separate and I'm trying not to spend so much time on it (I'm slow compared to other programmers). I will add the stones though and whats Oro's turtle??

snip

I was thinking about this and wondered if there is a way to send it through kaillera.. I don't see it happening especially since ddemame is closed source. =( With an external program it would be possible but looks like it would be tedious.

ok, no problem I can understand that.
Oro's turtle is just like dudley's car, an object that appears in two of his winposes
a)he just sits there, looking at a small turtle walking towards him
b)he looks all around him very fast and very slowly the turtle comes from in his back, almost surprising him as he turns a last time to stare deeply at it.

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p270/akubin/TurtlePower.png

Basically, that's just a joke, you don't have to change that except if you like extra work ;)
And yes, it would be cool to change oro's stones/toys colours as they are pretty ... mmm... ugly (well it's true for the robot toys at least) but, really, I can live without it. It's up to you =).

To anyone interested, yes, a palettes thread would be nice, I wouldn't mind sharing mine and getting a few nice ones I saw.

Tedious question for you - what exact screen/filter settings were you running for this shot?

Gaijinblaze
08-14-2007, 06:35 PM
It's the "unfiltered 50% scanlines" setting in Elsemi's emulator. The game initially opens in it's normal aspect ratio but twice as big like how it is in that shot. The only thing I don't like is that in fullscreen this video setting gets a bit dark, which is why I keep nagging about a 75% version of the same one. It would be as close to the arcade as I can imagine with a good brightness.

In fact, I think I'll fire off an email to Elsemi right now. Die MAME, die.

Edit: There is one problem with this filter though, in the bottom left corner of the screen it has some weird coloured dots. Hardly noticeable but they're always there. Maybe it's because this is the only video setting which raises the entire screen by what seems to be one line of resolution.

0.118u2 is out guys.
0.118u2
-------

NOTE: If you are experiencing sound stuttering due to not being able
to run your display at >60Hz, please give the -speed option a try.
You should be able to run MAME at a small emulation speed decrease
in order to get the game under your monitor's refresh rate.

MAMETesters Bugs Fixed
----------------------
boogwing0118yel [Aaron Giles]
starblad0113u3red [Atari Ace]
mgakuen0106u1red [Atari Ace]

Source Changes
--------------
Fixed recently introduced regression in nemesis driver. [Atari Ace]

Improved fixes to the chdman CD creating code. [smf]

Updated amspdwy.c driver to fix the DIP Switches for 'amspdwy' which
are slightly different than the ones for 'amspdwya' which were
correct. [stephh]

Fixed HP Saturn CPU core disassembler. [Wilbert Pol]

Fixed clock speed and colors in Trivia Genius. [Lord Nightmare]

Cleaned up Taito drivers to use common defines for common input
ports across drivers. [stephh]

Removed redundant hard-coded definitions for Pole Position pedals.
[Alex Jackson]

Improved DIP switches for bombjack. [stephh]

Changed default layouts in BFM games to hide VFD by default since it
is not visible. [James Wallace]

Further improvements to the TMS5220 emulation and more unification
with the TMS5110 core. [Lord Nightmare]

Changed INI parsing to look for source file INIs in <inipath>/source
first. This is to disambiguate INIs where the game name matches the
source filename. If the INI file is not found in <inipath>/source,
then it is looked for in the <inipath> as before. [Aaron Giles]

Merged Raiden memory maps. Cleaned up the COP emulation code in
Raiden 2. [Aaron Giles]

Added new experimental control for overall emulation speed. This
lets you specify how fast/slow the gameplay should happen relative to
the original. -speed 1.0 means run at normal speed. -speed 2.0 means
run at 2x speed. -speed 0.5 means run at half speed. Note that the
sound pitch is shifted as a result. If you are running early Namco
games that normally run at 60.60Hz, you can run them at -speed 0.99
and it should run at under 60Hz, which should prevent sound stuttering
if your monitor is not capable of greater than 60Hz refresh rates.
If this turns out to be useful, future versions may support a
-speed refresh parameter that automatically tweaks the speed to keep
you under your monitor's refresh rate. [Aaron Giles]

Fixed disassembly of V30 bit instructions. [Aaron Giles]

Well, just pasting your new mame exe to your old version's folder does not work? You dont really have to get a new version just because there is an update. As I figure it, they havent updated its cps3 section in a while.
