I just recently bought a bedroom set. But now I need a good mattress. I've always said that when I got the chance, that I would by the tempur-pedic. I've tried it out in the store and it felt good. But we all know that a few minutes lying on the thing does not constitute a full nights sleep. I've been reading reviews on the net and some people like it and some don't. These are the list of cons. I won't go into the pros because it won't be anything you haven't heard on the commercial before.

-Gets hard as hell in the winter time because of the cold weather
-Traps body heat and you burn up in the summer
-Has a funny smell for a while because of the chemicals used to make it
-Takes a while to get used to the sunken in feeling
-causes diffrent parts of the body to ache (neck, back etc...)
-Most importantly, it's hard as hell to retrun if you do the 3 month trial do to bad customer service.

The final con is the most important. If I don't like you product during the trial period, the last thing I want is to have trouble trying to return a $2000 product.

So what infomation do you have???

It doesn't...

Either way I saw right through those Tempur-Pedic's everytime they're on an infomercial. I always figured the whole "movement doesn't transfer" was just another way of saying "stiff as cock at sunrise".

I've laid down on one in the Brookstone.

It feels nice, I could def get used to it.

As for the sex, if it's not good for that, just fuck her on the carpet. Rug burn= +Manpoints.

Just get a memory foam mattress for about 600-1000 dollars at an independent furniture store. I have one and yes it does take awhile for it to "break in" but that's about it. Nothing negative about it.

Try Costco, name brands are like 2/3 of the cost vs a store.

Got a Sealy Posture-pedic (sp?), box and frame for under $700. Absolutely the most comfortable bed ever.

If you really want to get a great bed (don't know what budget you're looking at), get one of those sleep number beds. It's great that it's adjustable and you can get a cheap memory foam mattress topper for comfort. Adjustable support is awesome.

As far as the funny smell goes - you're supposed to keep any memory foam out in a sunny area for at least one full day (next to a window perhaps). One or two runs of that and you won't have smell issues...unless you smell...and in that case, BRUUUSSH YOUR TEETH XD

That's what i did, got a memory foam mattress for about $750 instead of paying $2500+ for a tempur pedic.

I sleep well EVERY night and wake up very refreshed......

Another vote for Foam Mattress here.

I picked mine up at IKEA. They're rolled up when you buy 'em.
So much easier to transport than a spring mattress.

I actually saw and ad on ebay that mentioned something about this. Apparently this guy is selling use supposedly authentic tempurpic mattresses. Not used in the since of some one really owned it before. But he was seelling the ones that they had for people to test in stores. He shipped them rolled up. He got negative feedback every now and then and people also questioned weather they were real or not because of the low prices.

I'll get immitaion stuff as much as the next man. But I'm not sure that I'd want to do it with that type of matress. At least not without testing it out first. You do make a very good point though. Maybe if I had some time to test one out, I could come to a decesion.

Which style do you have? I was thinking of getting the deluxe version. There is only one indepent furniture store near me and they don't offer them. I live in a small half horse town called barstow. I'd have to go out to victorville and see what they have out there. That'll be a trip I'm going to take next week. The furniture store near me have these pretty good mattresses and I think the word England is somewhere in the name of themattress. I tried out a few different qualities of each one in the store and the feel great. They are a little pricey though. I think the most expensive one is a little under $2000. I need to go back and really look at them. I didn't pay much attention to them because I was hell bent on getting the tempurpedic. Oddly enough, the springs inside these things are bent over in an arc. I thought it was strange that they would be like that.

I've also done a little more research and apparently, Sealy also offers a type of foam mattress as well as a latex one.
http://www.sealy.com/Posturepedic/posturepedic.aspx

I'll see if I can find some comparisons on the net as I'm sure the sealy's would go for a lot less. This is my thing though. Sealy has been the leader in mattress design since like forever. My thing is, if the foam thing is infrerior or so some people think. Then why would they switch to making the same thing as well as a variation of it? Is it because it's the new craze? Or is it because Tempurpedic my actually be on to something? Since Tempur did it first, does that necessarily mean that theirs is a better product? Hmmm.

Hell no. Sex on them is perfect. Like fucking on a cloud.

Most comfortable matress in the world. Highly reccomended.

My mom worked at a convalescent home where they had them, and supposedly they had to replace them often because it breaks down easily. It keeps the memory a little too well, supposedly, and doesn't return to it's original shape.

I've had one for a while now... all my girlfriends have absolutely loved it.

Most comfortable matress in the world. Highly reccomended.A: I don't know about that sex part. I agree with MechZZ that it's nice to have a little spring/motion from the bed as opposed to doing it all yourself.

Get a goddamn sturdy frame - I broke a couple frames going at it. =P

B: Yeah, I sleep really really soundly. And my girlfriends would always want to come over to my place to sleep. I don't know if that's good or bad.

In short: probably overpriced, but they are pretty awesome. It's done wonders for my back.

I talked to some mattress store rep about Tempurpedic vs other foam mattresses, and she said that it's because Tempurpedic's method of creating their foam is super-top-secret classified information. Apparently, Tempurpedic never patented their method, so they never had to release it, which means that Sealy & other companies have nothing to work with. So they can try to mimic the Tempurpedic, but they can't actually copy it.

Something like that.

I got mine rolled up too. It's rolled up because it is compressed and there is no air. The moment you open the plastic up, it unravels and expands to about 3x the size of what it looks like when it is rolled up. From the way it sounds, the people who left the negative feedback are just cynical or paranoid, I'm sure they enjoyed their sleep on it and just wanted to complain about something.

If you tried them out, then you should notice whether the mattresses feel that much different from each other or not between the most expensive and least expensive model.

I have back problems so I've gone through a lot of mattresses. I don't like spring mattresses, because the way I sleep, the always sink down in the middle. My foam mattress doesn't have any springs in it, but don't get me wrong it's not like you're sleeping on a crappy futon.

I've only tried out two memory foam mattresses myself at a store. They had a no name/brand memory foam queen set for 599 that I got in a full sized I think for about 100 dollars less, and later when I came back they had a better one queen set for 699-The 699 had a pillow top (it looks like the sealy mattress you linked also has one) so it felt more soft/comfortable on the top compared to the one that I bought. I think if I waited and bought that one, it wouldn't be rolled up however. Now that I think about it, the one I bought was really hard-I think all memory foams should be like this initially if they were rolled up when you receive them.

When you lay on it, you can feel it molding the shape of your body and when you get off of it, you can see the imprint of your body on the mattress. It takes awhile for the mattress to return to its original shape (think of the tempurpedic commercial). It was pretty good for my back although it took some time getting used to it, like you're laying in one place and your sinking, but you move to the side and now you're on flat surface again before you start to sink. It's not the most comfortable thign.

After about 3 weeks though, you don't get that sinking feeling anymore and it just feels like a soft cloud like everyone says. I get deeper sleep now so I can get less hours and still feel refreshed. I've never had any of the problems that you posted in your first post.

Anyway, with independent furniture stores in southern california the mark up is about 1.6-1.7 for furniture and 2.0 for mattresses in competitive places, (I just know trust me) this is higher if you're in a nicer store. So if I bought my full sized for 499, it really costed the store maybe 250 to buy it from the manufacturer or wholesaler. Name brands like Sealy would cost a little bit more to make and be marked higher just because they are name brands, say 350 cost and probably be marked at 800 for a full size.

With that said, if the tempurpedic is better, which it probably is, it's not better by much to justify a $2500 purchase in my opinion if that's the price. They were just the first to popularize it so they have that type of price. You'll probably feel better about your purchase knowing you have the "best" kind or so you think, so you'll sleep better lol.

If you have a career or can make money, then by all means do what you want. But if you're just a student or a graduate looking for a nice foam mattress, I suggest you visit local stores or ikea/living spaces/easy life in so cal.
