turbo 2 (or 1, even? though that's painful) seems like it is the right speed. 4 is just stupid with half a second button delay- it's not like you're actually playing anything like the actual game, there's just too much guessing going on. the slower the turbo speed, the less jarring it is when slowdown inevitably occurs, even under the best connections, and then resumes at that speed of play.

that sounds like a tad bs to my ears. if you compare hsf2-speed2 to the speed that always has been played in ST its WAY to slow. why make nearly the "same" game alot slower than what it has been played all these years? >.> i think ive seen some japanese sbo-qual matches from hsf2 and that is NOT the speed2 which is used on xbox, that is speed3.

SBO rules set it to speed 2. A lot of people had to adjust to that from speed 3, and that is arcade speeds but those are the rules and speed 2 on xbox version seems similarly annoyingly slow in any case, if xbox-arcade speeds don't match up consistently it's close enough. The main point is, we should accept the slower speed to offset the bigger annoyance, by far: lag and button latency.

GG's Juzam yesterday.Glad to see your on speed 2 now at least.I can deal with that,speed 1 is way too slow though.Im still trying to adjust to the 360 d pad and it just sucks,every which way.Its amazing how differently you have to play because you are not confident that half the things you want to do wont come out.It really ruins the experience for me.Something has to happen in the controller department befor SFHD comes out.I agree with Louie though,Practically everybody on AE plays speed 3.I also think the higher speed helps with the lag,or at least makes it seem less noticable.

GG's Sanjuro. Don't get to play Hyper much. Hell...I get to play ST more than I do Hyper at the tourneys that I go to. Which is why I brought the ST Blanka and pink "Sexy Hawk" T.Hawk. I like using ST Blanka cuz he's rarely used in ST and he has those gimmicky mix ups that I like to utilize in every fighting game. I see you eventually mixed it up with the old school cheese but Hyper is a different game so I understand. WW Guile's air throw range is stupid. Can't jump ever. GG's and we'll play again.

well I guess you guys are just going to have to trust me on sbo official speed setting, but the real issue here is how to get the best experience playing online. btw have you noticed that it says "matches waiting: 2" or some number but you go to check and no games present? (just lately or it was always like that?). I select no pref for mic, domestic, and run through _all_ speed settings, then check each speed on worldwide (don't imagine anyone changes number of rounds). I run through all speed settings because the issue is not so much which speed, but rather is anyone playing at all. and worldwide/domestic doesn't seem to have any effect at all, just what someone selected for show. they really could have arranged the options for online so much better.

but tell me, really try to explain in any amount of detail, exactly why you think speed 3 is better than 2. I guess it's no big deal but since the lag is there, it is more noticeable, not less (and, mostly inconsequential). I agree speed 1 is too slow, that even the lag can handle 2. maybe I'm just worried mostly about not ruining my offline game (too late? :) ). but when you have that half a second button press delay, you start to play a completely different game altogether and jump kick, low kick suddenly becomes your strongest strategy. and different characters seem to be a lot stronger than they are offline. I get very, very far with blanka online for example. his fierce ball isn't punished like it could be offline, because 1) it comes out fast and 2) by the time the opponent sees the timing for it, there's a good chance they won't be able to react in time. to punish it the opponent really has to get into more of a predictive mindset, would you agree?

btw last night I had a great- maybe the _best_ I've seen so far- experience online with Prasshu (his lang. set to JPN) in terms of lag- there seemed to be virtually no lag, outside of the occasional random pause, but the half second delay between button press and a move seen onscreen seemed to disappear! Only problem was he kept choosing normal guile/ce sagat half the time.

Ill sometimes get up to 3 matches waiting,yet they are no where to be found on optimatch.I really think it is an unconnectable thing.The other day,I tried connecting to someone on my friends list who was waiting for a match,and it simply wouldnt connect us.I tried hosting,he tried hosting,we both logged out and back on again,nothing.Iv played him befor with good connection so scratching my head as to why we couldnt connect.

btw I don't think it's necessarily the "friend's only" option, because I was looking for matches one day, it said matches waiting: 1 so I went through every possibility, but nothing, then checked my friend's list and I could "join friend" /join friend's game/he's available to play and he accepted so we played. so even if he selected "friends only" for the game he hosted, I would have been able to see it, but I didn't, so that's not it, something is just screwed up. I also suspect the "matches waiting: 1" number might take a while to update accurately (like a few minutes sometimes).

Incase you didn't know i record most of my matches (just to catch a dropper like Hotbishop,jorge avila,or super setsuke) as for me never beating you when you beat me like 10-5 that was like 7 months ago when i was playing on a pad and fairly new to ST. I have played you quite a few times since then on 2 different accounts and i checked my videos

13-10 in my favor you dropped after the 13th win

20-9 in my favor

3-2 in my favor you dropped on the select screen (Most recent set)

As for proof here is one of the videos i don't want to be an ass and upload them all since i don't take online play serious.

For the record i did win a couple of Vega vs. Blanka matches although most of those sets where a few months ago except the last one was in mid June. I used Chun-Li the majority of the matches since i'm in the process of learning her. When i said you where trash i probably should have said "you played like trash" and i actually didn't know you where one half of Mongolorobocop. As for "challenging" you as in some online endurance match no i don't take online play serious because xbox live sucks it's only good for casual practice not for "competition" like some people treat it as. I'd prefer offline practice but i live in New Orleans nobody plays SF2 or 2d fighters in general. You are one of the best players on xbl and i will play you online for fun if i'm playing AE online but i rarely play it online because the netcode is terrible.

If you wanna play serious next year i will almost certainly be at Evo World and Evo South (or Final Round) and probably a few other tourneys i can get out to in 08. But i really don't care much for playing on xbl other than for casual play and practice. Plus i will be in Dallas for a tourney next month also.

The nearest tourney scene from me is about 7 hours to Houston 10 to Dallas. You live a Cali congrats you have a scene. Trust me you don't know how irritating it is to not have a fighting game scene when you are a hardcore 2d fighting game fan.

First, I play Q on Third Strike, and I suspect I wouldn't do particularly well as him if that were my opinion.

Second, what is a 'person like me'? Someone who respects his opponent enough not to resort to simpleton tactics to get a win? If you're good enough with your one character, you shouldn't need tick throws to beat them. I never use them, and I win all the time.

Third, the tick-throw is pretty much sequestered from the alpha games, and wisely. I'm aware that they're still there, but we don't see several seconds of a character blocking before they're flung over Bison's shoulder as we did in Hyper Fighting, for example. And whether it isn't a glitch or not - it's always been cowardly.

If you would have complained about the lag affecting your ability to reversal out of the tick throw people would see your point. It seems more that you went toe to toe and he got the edge over you by tick throwing you. Fix your game plan.

Afro: If you're reading this, I tried using your grip style, I can dp and move pretty well on first player side, but on 2p side, can't go from crouch into dp fast enough....then I tried Valle's style which works well for both sides...BUT with his style I can't link the short super variations on 1p side...haha damn its frustrating..*back to training mode in AE*

I'm on the same train with you, I just switched to stick about a month and a half ago. Been playing SF on and off (mostly off, lol) during the last 15 years myself.
Dam, I definetly need months of practice to be on par with my scrubby pad skills.
I'm also struggling to find the best grip style. I find myself changing grip style depending on which character i select and even on the moves themselves.

Sucks, but like the saying goes sometimes you need to take one step back in order to take two steps forward.

To tell you the truth - the ranking system on this game completely eludes me. Is it tallied strictly by your win / loss ratio? Any fighting game with an SS class, a J class, etc, tends to make my head spin ranking-wise.

At any rate, had another great session with Beef Bowl yesterday. Managed to actually beat him a few times. Movin' on up.

Bad design decision in my opinion, having input lag rather than slowdown. Considering it's a game all about timing, a split-second delay just kills you every time.

Yeah, lag is top tier at this game! Maybe it's cause I haven't played AE online much and am not used to it, but for some reason I find it a lot harder to time moves consistently on this than I do with HF. Even on a good connection. I don't get it. :confused:

On the flip side, I've played against a couple of people that seem to get their moves out almost all the time. So maybe it's just me? Still, it kind of scares me that if I learn to re-time my moves to account for laggy input that it'll hurt my offline timing.

I've played him, his Zangief is good, and he doesn't use a turbo controller, he uses a stick.

Which means I can now use Zangief on AE. : ) (I could never use him properly with the pad because it was too awkward to press 3 buttons similtaneously on it to do his lariats.)

I'm not as good with the stick yet as I am with the pad - never used a stick for years, since I used to play in the arcades. Still learning ST Gief, too - I stopped playing SF back in the day after HF.

(I played HF on XBLA solidly for about a year with Gief, BTW.)

I'm not as good with the stick yet as I am with the pad - never used a stick for years, since I used to play in the arcades. Still learning ST Gief, too - I stopped playing SF back in the day after HF.

(I played HF on XBLA solidly for about a year with Gief, BTW.)

In AE they are even better than ST b/c you can't tech hit their throws! OUCH...

Invincible DP with no recovery on block and a throw you can't tech... Spells pain for me and Sim at least 4 times a month! LOL

CE zangief is impossible to play, i can't aa your jumpins which you do every 2 seconds. fucking annoying. anyway i dont play this much, dont really know what i'm doing
