Just what I was thinking, though we wouldn't have enough Completes.

When you get your license, you think you'll be getting a car or something?Cuz your folks are cool as hell if they allow you to drive like an hour out here to Chicago.

do it, one of the most rewarding experiences i've ever had. our high school required us to do like 40 hours or so of community service in order to graduate and i was lucky enough to be able to be in charge of the skate club at the middle school. every tues + thurs after school i'd go down and we'd all just skate in the school parking lot and i'd help the kids learn stuff.

on a side note i'm going to be picking up rollerblading again this spring. don't know why i stopped, thinking back it was just as fun as skateboarding.

It's a 180 kickflip. I skate normal so it's a 180 and a kickflip where I rotate my body to the right.

Biolink
02-28-2008, 04:03 PM
So you just kickflip and rotate your entire body 180 degrees,or does the board go180 as well?

AmbiguousCrosup
02-28-2008, 04:07 PM
yeah both your body follows the board. I would find a video for you but youtube is blocked here at work. just search for backside flip or 180 kickflip.

So after you land that move you would start SKating Goofy.

Mike Mo's flips are pretty amazing. Check out that STOMP!

I can't do backside flips at all. Turning backside all the way is so wierd to me, yet front boards feel really natural to me....sillyness.

Biolink
02-28-2008, 04:32 PM
Yeah some of that stuff does feel pretty funny.

I'm just more afraid of busting my head open.Yesterday I bailed pretty fucking hard trying to ollie.

tindiamond
02-28-2008, 06:27 PM
What did you try to ollie Bio?

It took me awhile to learn backside flips. I just recently got them down. I just changed my back foot position and it felt alot easier.

Biolink
02-28-2008, 06:37 PM
I was just TRYING to ollie inside of my house.I couldn't successfully do one AND I freaking bailed hard at the same time

I need to Skate a lot more.Get accustomed to moving fast.I Skate goofy so first I am going to get accustomed to that stance, and then Skate Regular and try to get used to skating that.

Then learn kick turning, reverts, and manuals before I go on to Ollies I guess.

Oh and do you have to wax a rail in order to grind it?

AmbiguousCrosup
02-28-2008, 06:44 PM
/\ Rails no, concrete ledges, yes.

tindiamond
02-28-2008, 06:45 PM
I see lol

Well I recommend waxing it. You have to test it out first to see if it slides or not. If it doesn't then you wax it up. A little bit of wax never hurts.

Biolink
02-28-2008, 06:49 PM
Where can I get wax?

Or can I just make that shit(And if I can ingredients?)

AmbiguousCrosup
02-28-2008, 06:49 PM
I use scented candles.

Biolink
02-28-2008, 06:52 PM
Just a big jar of Wax,scoop the stuff out,and then apply it to the surface?

tindiamond
02-28-2008, 07:11 PM
Just use a regular candle and it should work fine. Unless you want to waste money and buy some Ledge Butter or Pig Wax.

Man I've been trying to tell my friend that chicks dig skaters, but no...he'd rather not listen to me.

Also, I've heard amongst my friends who skate that people who skate goofy (I suppose who are also naturally right handed/footed) have a hard time doing kickflips. This is kind of true with me, I have a really hard time getting a nice clean kickflip, but heelflips are no problem. Anyone else?

Eh, she was ok I guess. But I felt bad for her so I said no. All my friends were like "Just go out with her, get a free board then leave the bitch." I just didn't want to take advantage of her like that. lol

I kind of understand what you mean. I have friends that are goofy and they have a hard ass time doing frontside flips but backside flips, they have that shit on lock. For everyone else that skates regular, we all have frontside flips but can't backside flip for shit. Idk, its weird, I learned switch backside flips before I could regular backside flip.

I just remember that there was going to be a skate comp back in my home town. Thinking of entering it. I'll probably go for it. Fuck it.

That's exactly right

When I was comming up I had one good friend I would skate with and I am regular and he is goofy. I could only front board and he could only backside board. I could frontside 180 and he could back. He could only do backside 50-50s and I was the opposite. It made it really hard to skate spots together.

Frontside flips were one of the first tricks I learned, it's always been one of my favorites. I remember looking in magazines for weeks after I landed it to find out what it was called.

I do pretty good switch but my switch grinds are weak though.

Biolink
03-02-2008, 12:06 PM
Hmmm.

How are your switch ollies, kicks, and heels?

hawaiigamer142
03-02-2008, 12:13 PM
Frontside flip is just a shortened name for frontside 180 kickflip, so yes you turn your body 180 degrees front side. What's really dope is when people can get the frontside flip to spin vertically, looks sick!

Biolink
03-02-2008, 12:25 PM
So as a goofy skater I would kickflip and then torn my body 180 degrees to the right for a frontside flip, and if I was regular I would kickflip and roatate my body 180 degrees to the left.

No?

tindiamond
03-02-2008, 12:27 PM
They are fine. I mostly have problems with my switch heels.

I wish my frontside flips looked like that. lol

You're right Bio.

Biolink
03-02-2008, 12:47 PM
Cool.Kind of figured that.

As far TreFlips are concerned. If the board goes a different way will it be called a different move?

What about kick and heel flips?

If I am goofy and do a kickflip the board is supposed to rotate to the right I think, and I think to the left for a heelflip?

AmbiguousCrosup
03-02-2008, 12:52 PM
So a Frontside Flip is a hard flip, and you body turns 180 degrees?

Those are some good flips.

A kickflip rotates towards you, and a heelflip rotates away from you. That's the best way to recognize them.

That's a bit hard to understand.

So for example if I was goofy,a kickflip would be anything that that went to the left of me,and a heelflip would be to the right of me.If I was regular a Kickflip would be to the right of me and a heelflip would be to the left?

so i was just skating to safeway, and some dude that i passed at the bar was like, what kind of board is that, i said, i dont know, its been a while, and he said, you dont know what kind of board it is, and i said, nah, been a while. wtf

i got it over the summer trying to get back into skating, but it got cold obviously, and i have not gotten the chance to get back on, and i didnt have alot of time to do it over the summer, but i do enjoy just hopping on my board and cruising around sometimes. no tricks or anything, just enjoying the ride. maybe he didnt mean much by it, but i dont feel like im an asshole for not remembering the manufacturer of my board. are skaters still on some kiddie shit, like, you dont know your board, what a noob, poser. come on. some people do flat, some vert, some street, and hell, i like to just cruise, enjoy the breeze and the freedom. i would love to be rodney mullen, but im not, and its just not one of my dreams, or wants, to be the best skater. no big.

i just feel like him saying, you dont know, was suppose to make me feel like an asshole for riding a board and not knowing the manufacturer, like im not true to da game because of that. i support, and supported my local skate shops. but whatev, those are stupid cards to pull. i just had a moment where i thought for a second, is this dude on some early/mid 90's bullshit, like if i cant grind a rail, know every name for every move, and every manufacturer in the world, im lame, and posing.

its all good though. whatev

its a zero thomas board by the way. are there any famous mongol skaters?

tindiamond
03-02-2008, 06:38 PM
Roastbeef is a grab. Since you're goofy, you do an ollie and grab the inside of the board with your left hand.

Some people are like that but fuck it. Any famous mongol skaters....hmmm none come to mind right now. If you ever look at older skate footage, you'll notice some of them pushing mongol if I remember correctly.

You know, I never watched that sheckler show, but people clown that guy so hard. Is he really all that lame? I mean back in the day people were cool to him, like Schaffer at the park, cuz his mom would hang out in the booth, so sketch. Those enjoi ads were kind of harsh, talking about his back tattoo and all that, but like 6 years ago, like 10 of the top pros had the same shit, like Jamie Thomas, etc. I mean he probably is a lil shit but whatever. I used to know his filmer, didn't seem to think he was all that bad.

I've watched Rob and Big, though and somehow that show trips me out. I mean it seems really gay when I tell people about it. But those guys just have personality. Half of this reality shit on tv is either people being retardedly dramatic about stuff, or trying to be a rock star.

I did a roll in on a ramp because I was too scared to drop in. Please note, this is a big mistake because the roll in is there so you can go WAY FASTER. lol. Concussion! but the only problem I have going fakie is when I come at the wall too crooked, then I fuck myself up trying to straighten out at the lip. Go here, they shit loads of different brands of bearings.

Bearings (http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/get_list_1091.htm)

or

More Bearings (http://www.360skate.com/cat_bearings.cfm)

The first joint wanted 50 bucks for shipping to Canada, geez. The second place had a price drop on the Swiss Ceramic that I wanted and half the charge for shipping . Sadly I have to go through UPS to get it to Canada. I hate UPS. I hate UPS so much.

Still, I think I saved a bundle, thanks a lot guys.

Hey I was practicing stationary ollies yesterday.I got the form down, but my back wheels maybe leave an inch or a few centimeters off the ground.

What could I be doing wrong?

Also to do shuv-its will I need to know how to Ollie?

When you ollie, as soon as you pop, pull your feet up as high as you can, especially your back foot. Graze your nipple with your knee, you'll be the next Donger in no time. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but once you learn to pull your feet up and how to pop your board to stick to them, your good.

"Pop Shove-its" require an ollie, but I mean you can just scoop your foot without even really popping your tail to do a shove it. sometimes if I do them as a setup thing, I notice that my wheels are skidding around against the ground before I land on it. but if you are doing that trick over something, then yeah, you definitely need to ollie.

jesus those flips are so shit, you will get ragged on so hard if you go to a contest doing a hardflip like that, between your legs. I have a friend who is sooo good, but this is his fav. trick and he just won't quit doing these things the ugliest way possible. He had a perfect run at tampa pro a couple of years ago, but didn't place at all, because he 'donkey flipped' them. (I guess clyde singleton made up that term on the microphone). Seriously, he hardflipped over the pyramid, frontside pop shuvs on the roll in (half of a hardflip, lol), k grind the box, setup 5050 on the quarter, up the platform, backside lip on the handrail, donkey ass frontside flip on the quarter, donkey hardflip to 5050. That is a whole lotta ASS. If you replaced all those hardflips with just regular kickflips, you got yourself an ok run.

I mean... skate how you want to, but popping your board straight up and flipping it over neither hard or hardflip, and people will criticize you for it if you try to brag about it or do it in a contest. I did them that way for a while too.

Yeah, if your nose is grazing your nutsack, yer doin it wrong. haha

yeah I feel bad about talking about people's style so much, because there is so much more to skateboarding than just doing what the pros do, the way they do it. I got ragged on pretty bad for donkey flipping a fs flip in a contest though, so I just started trying to do them differently.

Just think of it, you're doing a frontside pop shove, then a kickflip at the same time. so technically, there is no reason for the board to be up there in your groin.

Just got back home from tampa. Results as far as I can tell:

1. Greg Lutzka
2. John Rattray
3. Mike Peterson (my homie from J-Ville!!!)

Best Trick:
1. Adam Dyett, showing up with a hangover at 2 pm and ripping the rail to shit.

Vert:
I don't know anything about this occasion.

In my opinion, John rattray should've gotten 1st. He fucking ripped, and did twice as many tricks in his run. Sheckler was bad ass as well, so was Jereme Rogers and Erik Koston. Billy Marks did a 3 flip to noseslide up the rail, Kyle Berard didn't do so well but had an awesome first run with a huge disaster onto the vert wall. I'll post more when I get the chance.

For me, the weekend was mostly shitty. Got 2 nails in a tire, used google maps to NOT find a tire kingdom to have it fixed, almost missed band of horses, and had to bail out Nate Johnson from jail, but antuwon dixon is still waiting to make bail in the county jail. The whole contest went well, and so many top-tier pros were there. Matt Beach, Jereme Rogers, my new best friend Brian Anderson. good shit.

Not really random skaters, just people in the contest. usually everyone rushes the course on the last trick of someone else's run, they have around 15 to 20 seconds to skate before they call the next guy. It's the only way to stay loose when waiting on your run, really. Seems disrespectful, but there isn't really much you can do to stop it.

I haven't skated in a long time. I skated all growing up. I was pretty good at one point in time. Nothing bigger than local shops for sponsors (which boils down to discounts, more or less), but then at age 19, I fucked myself up pretty bad. Started filming a lot more around that time, and probably because of that, started doing much bigger shit. Long story short, I wasn't quite good enough for handrails and huge sets, and I ruined my back. Still aches all the damn time, 7 years later. Or worse, it goes completely out on me. Not to mention my wrist and my knee, which I fucked up pretty bad as well.

But I still miss skating. And I watch videos from time to time to torture myself. I saw the "This Is My Element" video not too long ago, though, and it made feel better about quitting. Especially when I saw what this 12 year old was doing:

That sucks man.I did travel a minute to get to this Park, but it wasn't too bad I suppose.

Anyway my story. You guys can skip right to part 3.I made this for another Chicago local, that I will meeting up with soon.

Anyway I got down to Wilson Skatepark today.Chicago's finest that is Chicago's finest Construction and Maintenance group tried to do everything in their power to make me not go,but it wasn't happening

1)The ride:

It took about an hour or so on the train,a few more minutes or a few less.As I mentioned there was construction going on,so the Train took a few different routes, and was even delayed at some points.I imagine it wouldn't be that bad if Construction wasn't going on.Eventually the train got back on route,a stop or so before Wrigley(The Adison stop I believe). Two stops later I made it to Wilson

2)The Walk:

The Walk wasn't nearly as bad as I had originally thought it would be.I got out of the Train Station, crossed the Street and headed due East towards the Lake. There's restaurants like Popeyes,El Pollo Loco,a McDonalds,a CVS Pharmacy,Bodega's(Corner Stores),a Hospital, and tons of other stuff going on,on Wilson Street. It was about a 8-10 minute walk to the park. The Park is a straight shot,so all you have to do is walk directly East towards the lake, walk under a vidock, and then cross Lake Shore Drive, and the park is right there. Can't miss it because you will see the Skatepark's Lightpole before you even get there.

3)The Park-

I got there at about 10:30(Left 95th Street Redline at about 9:10)

The Park was everything I expected and more.It has two Bowls(Both look like BIG Drops). One of the Bowls has a spine, and some other stuff in it.There is an 8 stair set,two handrails IIRC,Slopes so that you can get Speed, and plenty of Benches all around the park.Really the place is NICE,and has a really sweet flow to it.If you are a beginner,I wouldn't reccomend coming here just yet,but if you don't have problems turning,or keeping your balance or anything like that, then let it rip.

4)The People-

The Skaters there were a lot nicer than expected. It was mostly a lot of older people there with the exception of two little kids that stayed for about an hour. There was one guy that looked like he was in his 40's,dropping in,in one of the bowls. This Black Teen came in about 15 minutes after I did,and let me tell you. This guy was phucking ripping it,which was a shocker to me,because let's be honest. Most Black teens would rather be doing other stuff.Ollieing up the benches and doing Kickflips off of them, and he even nailed a few Tre Flips. There were some guy's in their 20's that came in and they were all cool.Talked with them for a bit. There were also about 6 or 7 BMXers there(I chit you not),and there was an Inline-Skater there as well.At it's peak there were about 18 people there.A security officer came, and walked around.Chatted up with a few people. He seemed pretty chill, because as I mentioned there were about 7 BMXers there, and Bikes aren't supposed to be allowed in the park.

5)My Experience-

As I expected I would, I absolutely stunk.Couldn't do anything. One of the twenty year olds tried to get me to drop in,but I chickened out.He said that it was probably a good thing though, because I can seriously injure myself, especially since I wasn't committing(I didn't have a helmet or any other pads). He said that not too long ago,he got a concussion WITH A HELMET ON.He said that if he didn't have it on,God knows if he would be Hospitalized or even Alive.I tried riding down one of the smaller slopes, and bailed hard as hell {po). Still had tons of fun even though I was the 2nd worst person out there(Behind this little girl 4 or 5 year old girl.Even her brother who had to be about two years older than her,was better than me).

Ended up leaving at about 12:30,so I got about 3 hours in.I could see myself staying longer, but I know next to nothing at all about Skateboarding,so I didn't want to be there just standing in the way.

Yeah.
