What are other ways to get fleas? I saw one a night or two after I cut the lawn outside, but killed it and was in denial when more bites started to show up. Now it's a week later, and they're definitely there and pissing me off. I'm getting a spray today. Is that enough, or should I be calling an exterminator? Besides the lawn, a few cats used to live in my garage. They've never gone inside the house.
And are there ways to genocide fleas without the spray (I need a ride, and said ride may not be home for a while)? I found out I could suffocate them with vaseline when they're on you, but that's as close as I got.

Hmm, I've got crabs, and no pubic hair.

life's a bitch.

I hear if you drink vinegar, they won't come around.

Neighbor's dog can do it. Happened here and we haven't had a dog in 20 years.
call animal control and I think they'll make them clean it up or get fined if they can prove the dog has fleas.

use foggers to bomb your house...but first figure out the source... afaik small rodents can carry fleas so if you have other pest problems that can compound the issue... good luck.

dude foggers dont kill fleas for shit the best trick I know is to freeze out your house turn the ac all the way up and leave for like 2 day they will freeze trust me I know. Plus fleas can find a way from some rodent and one egg sac is enough to have them multiply like catholics.

Yeah, you can get fleas infesting your house in dozens of different ways. It really doesn't even matter. You've got alotta work ahead of you before they're gone.

My right eye keeps twitching. Does that have anything to do with the fleas?

I also heard that Boric acid (which I have in abundance) will dry out the environment enough to kill hatching eggs at birth. Can I use any old boric acid (don't know what I have), or does it have to be a certain kind?

...Ouch. I feel sorry for you. Fleas are evil incarnate in every damn sense of the phrase. I loathe them with the unbridled passion of a thousand menopausal Inuyasha fangirls. I can promise you those black devils WILL rule your home unless you act quickly so lets get right down to it. The first order of business is to track down the source which can be done cheaply if you can't afford an exterminator. What you'll need is a mobile form of light (lamp, flashlight, candle, etc.), some old bowls and a bottle of dishwashing liquid to give you a rough estimate of where to begin your assault. Start placing your bowls filled with a water/dish soap mixture in the dark rooms of your choice focusing your source of light directly on them. I'd start with your garage since you've already confirmed the presence of animals and it's a perfect breeding ground beside your basement (hot and dry). Anyway, the soapy bubbles act as a net hindering their escape while heat provides a natural source of attraction to the death trap. Set them up at night so by morning you'll hit pay dirt.

Now depending on the level of your particular infestation (and a little elbow grease) it may take as little as a few weeks to control, but don't get your hopes up. A single can of spray or wishy-washy fogging WONT do the trick (especially with furnishings or carpet) since a single adult female is capable of laying up to 500 eggs during a several week span. Flea control demands you treat both indoor and outdoor environments unless you'd prefer a return visit. The best form of treatment outside of IGR (Insect Growth Regulators which prevent the adult cycle of the flea. Adams and Zodiac brand sprays are a cut above the rest in this department.) insecticides is a simple vacuum and 20 Team Mule Borax usually found in the laundry department of any store. Salt has been known to work as well but I've never used it. Wash everything that isn't nailed down regularly while spreading the Borax around the house. Let it set for a day or so then vaccum or sweep it up. Continued applications should get the job done if you're patient. Be sure you pitch the bags somewhere other than your own home to avoid reinfestation.

Outdoor treatment is a different story but thankfully just as simple. Cedar wood chips are natural repellent, but diatomaceous earth is your main bread and butter because it literally cuts through flea exoskeletons. And hey, it's natural so you won't have to worry about harming yourself during exposure. You can buy that stuff at Walmart or Home Depot. As for repellent you can either go the OFF or natural route. The natural route being lavender oil, almond oil, eucalyptus or citronella, garlic and vinegar. Skin So Soft is also a well known flea repellent. Just mix whatever you can afford with water in a spray bottle and get to work.

Good luck... because those bastards are going to make a meal out of you. >_>

I plan on going to Auburn Hills this weekend. Are my chances of spreading them to my Aunt's house high?

It honestly depends on how infested your house is at the moment. If you've got a ride then I suggest vaccuming it clean and using repellent before you head out.

My aunt is driving me there. Guess I'll just deal with repellent.
