LOL dude, i truly hope you are really kidding. do you see any really good AE players in this tourney?? dsp talks so much shit of how he is so good, im really glad and old school player like wilson took his trash out to the dumps. 2nd place = first place loser, so i dont see where the props for dsp falls into your comment. jeron and sirlin are far better players than dsp imo, dont know how he placed higher...... oh wells.

Hey watson... I'm drunk so this won't make sesne good luck at evo west, it'll be fun to see how for DSP gets. True, Jeron is buff, he beat my bison 4-1 w/ blanka in casual.
Try to get Schaefer to go, that would be the shit. I'd love to see Jeff block low and fireball every round.

No I didn't really see any good AE players in this tournament, and I didn't take away from the first place win either, just that he got second even with Jeron and Sirlin there.
I leave his trash talking online to his personality online, he doesn't quite act like that irl (well not completely anyway).
Regardless of that, I look foward to more updates ;p.

I just think i could have played better overall. But Alex G was too solid and i couldnt break the akiha wall. Gives me something to work on i guess, lol.
Nice to meet everyone at the tourney, and thanks to those who entered it! Aside from the power thing, it ran really smooth (as usual for my tournies, tee-hee), i guess ill see you all tomorrow, but yeah...good times all around tho. Had some killer IHOP afterwards, lol.
BTW Mystery tourney was hilarious. Didnt get to play in it, but watching other people play was awesome.

mystery tourney results-

2. Jeron
3. Jason Cole
rounds included-
Pocket Fighter
Mike Tyson Championship Boxing
Wrestlefest
MK4
Tekken 2
Tobal No. 1
Dead or Alive 1
ST (opponent picks your character)
Smokin' Tokens
and then grand finals
Nintendo world championships 1990
which was basically a points/coins obstacle course in Super mario brothers, Rad Racer, and Tetris.
I won 80 bucks which was 50 bucks more than if @ won AE!
and by the way, I see fools trying to start shit already about AE because they're bored with their own lives. I played CE Bison only until grand finals and then I mixed it up with a little HF Ken and Blanka. Wilson beat me with ST Chun, but I was staying away from ST chars since this was AE.
Watson, GROW UP!

AE Final was me in Loser's bracket against DXP using CE Bison, then HF Ken, then HF Blanka vs HF Gief. So you try playing against HF Blanka with Gief please ;)
I won first set, 3-2, then second set 3-1. Second set was only Chun vs CE Bison.

Thank you to Seth, Jason and Sabre for not entering, allowing me to make top 8. Appreciated, though I did enjoy playing you guys in casuals when I could.
Also, there were 49 entries for CvS2. I asked, due to wanting to know where I placed. I was told I tied for 17th, which is a heck of a lot better than I thought Id do playing N groove without RCing.
I had a great time and met a lot of really cool people. Shout out to Jeron, Cole, Sirlin, DarkGeese, and the variety of other really kind people whos names are escaping me currently. Thanks for making my weekend a really good one.

Thanks to those that played EX with me this weekend, sadly I only knew a few of you (DreamTR, Sabre, Jeron, Cole, and some others that I didn't catch the name of)
And thanks to all entrants in EX2+... god I suck on stick, lol I suck at Ex2+ in general. Props to Sabre and Josh for eliminating me though.
Thanks to those that played against me in ST, I know I suck but thanks for letting me a few game win streaks here and there. ^.^

Adam Heart, actually.
Damn man, you left before we could play a few rounds of ST. Maybe on laggy Xbox Live?
Anyway, congrats on placing top 8.

Honestly, the controls made my experience a waste of time and money. I got more out of watching people play ST than trying to compete on that garbage in 3s. "Wow, I'm holding back but I'm jumping back instead. Oh and great, I can't partition and dash for shit." I could've played better by shouting commands at the screen. But hey, can't make everyone happy right?

or a line of head to head cabs with japanese ball sticks. If I would've walked in and saw that, I would've shit my pants with glee.
But I can understand some people not wanting the slightly faster console versions. However, they did it at Evo East (even though the east coast has more arcade competition). At least you can bring your own stick with no complaint for console. I'm not sure about other people, but the speed difference is easy to compensate for.

I really hope MWC is console next year, cos btw the sticks and starting late + slowwww tourney ... blah Nickels. Arcade 3s is nice but not worth the hangups, esp when we're trying to qual for a console tournament anyway. The 3s showcase especially should have been on quarantine, and it sounded like a lot of other people had probs w/ all three cabs. Be nice to at least have one sanwa or something.

Ghaleon: Arcade was not causing the tournament to be held up. I nfact, you specifically had a bye, and bypassed the earlier rounds. THe tournament ran smoothly and was finished in about 4 hours or so. We did start late, but it was BECAUSE of the CONSOLE tournaments, not the arcade tournaments. The time wasted to figure in controller configuration and controllers that work and people not borrowing each others' sticks contributes to this issue.
Silks: Other than machine one which had nothing to do with the sticks (in fact, in had to do with them not being positioned properly in the cabinet) , but machines 2 and 3 with the Comp sticks worked 100%. There were no issues with those machines. Machine 1 was angled funny. Nothing to do with the sticks.
Shady: We switched out the Ultimates and used Comps on Cabs 2 and 3, but you were not here to see those, so you only got to see the issues with machine 1. Everything else was fine.
Again, I have to say this is an arcade tournament, and has always been an arcade tournament. Everyone knew this from the beginning, and the consensus is with the new school playing on home system is that you want Japanese sticks. I repeated numerous times many players have different preferences. SOme want 360s, some want switch, some want Japanese; etc. Can't please everyone. But we are not running head to head Japanese cabinets on a US tournament to please some people that are "accustomed" only to Sanwa. It's just a preference in general, and was announced way beforehand (months ago).
Thanks again to everyone that showed and hopefully we will see you again next year!

I agree that the sticks on 3rd Strike stations 2 and 3 were just fine, and even the 2p side on station 1 seemed fine. So it seems that it was just a crooked set of actuators in the 1p side...
I honestly, in the 3 rounds of MvC2 I played on the 360s, didnt have any problem with those either. And all the Super Turbo machines seemed fine too (I did jump left a few unintended time on 1p side on station 2, but i could adjust for it okay. wasnt nearly as dramatic as the 1p side on 3s station 1).
I can't help but feel like I didnt deserve my placing in ST, because of the guys who did not enter at all and some lucky bracketing. :(
Thanks for putting up with all my questions, Jason. I know you were busy and running and tournament is stressful.

Thanks to everyone that set up the tournament, and everyone that I meet. David, it was a pleasure meeting you in person and I hope Super Turbo Remix HD is a huge success along with Puzzle Fighter. Instead of generalizing about the tourney speed, what I meant was that there were multiple times where cabs were sitting empty, at times all three. I don't understand how console anything affected 3s arcade starting, but I'm not trying to bust your shit up about that, every tourney starts late everywhere, that's expected.
I know arcade/console/sticks/wahwah was done to death leading up to this tourney, I'm posting about what I'd like to see change in the future to accommodate the majority of 3s players and conform to evo standard. If you just want to keep it real for like 8 OG players then cool.

Just want to share an idea about the layout of the room for next year.
I think the biggest issue I saw was also with consoles or cabinets sitting open for long periods of time. If you move the judge table where I describe in my leet MS paint diagram, you will be able to see clearly which consoles are open at all times, without looking at the backs of a hundred people instead. You would only need to walk as far the door leading to the free-play hallway to see which cabinets are open at any given time, as well.
If you dont like my idea, dont use it! But here it is :)

@ Obot:
Min didn't play or enter to entertain anyone. Not you, or rustee, or the rest of the attendees. Tournaments have never been about entertaining a crowd, a crowd just happens to be part of the expierence. I mean for the longest time now people have been rolling their eyes everytime Justin reaches finals because he plays a smart, patient game. That's obviously not as entertaining as seeing someone getting raped in the finals. Hell, Steve Harrison, a P groover from VA, is by far the most UN-entertaining player to watch in all of CvS2, period. Watching him will literally put you to sleep. I remember going to a C3 tournament with Justin, and seeing Steve and Justin in grand finals. I have never seen so many time outs in CvS2 in my life. People just walked away after the first game it was that boring. It doesn't matter, because that gets Steve results, and frankly if one has to chose entertaining you or flat out winning I think we both know the better choice.
So yeah, maybe it was selfish of him, but he has every right to do that. For all we know he was probably stoned off his ass and just craving the munchies that damn badly (haha). I understand people can get upset, but the last thing you should be doing is telling him "TAKE A BEATING LIKE A MAN" like we're all a bunch of vikings or some shit, seriously now.

I concur.
I used to play on the bat stick, from the beginning of SF2 till about 5 years ago. Then I made the switch to japanese sticks because most of the competition was on console at that point (in this area). Took some time to get used to the ball sticks, but I love them now, and I'd never want to go back. I thought I could make the switch in a few games of casuals, but no fucking way.

Ghaleon: Most tourneys for MWC/EVO North are specifically for the people that can play on arcade and not console. Wizard mentioned that a long time ago, and it's the only tourney of the EVOs that has this available. It's more of a "roots" tournament than anything else, and it helps that the tournament has been for 14 years (Midwest Championships). There are other qualifying tournaments that are only console, and ours is the exception, and we are greatful it is arcade. I also can tell you without hesitation the majority of the "top" players would want to play that game on arcade, not console, but that's besides the point. It is what it is, and it's the only thing we have left, conformity withstanding or not.

Do you want becoming recognized to be easy? Sounds like you should have gone to East, or West, or South, or practiced on HAPP. I feel you 100 % on the sticks, but that's also why I chose not to go.

No.
And I learned my lesson on the stick issue. Not that it matters to anyone, but evo won't be getting anymore of my money anytime soon either.
I think people are forgetting that it's the arcade atmosphere/experience that's important, not the machine. The machines invented the arcade experience decades ago. Stubbornly playing on arcade machines only doesn't keep that experience alive. A gathering of players in one area does (ie tournament), no matter what the game is played on. Since playing on an arcade machine has become nearly impossible for a lot of players (the two arcades from my hometown shutdown a few years ago), console versions with people's own personal preference of stick is the logical way to go, even for people who have loved the arcade since before they grew pubes (ie me). *steps down from the podium* :P

Oh shit I just remembered about the "Just Ownage" guy.
He was talking to me when Justin Wong and one of his friends pulled him away for an on-camera interview. I NEED to see this interview. That guy was totally hillarious... highlight of the weekend in some ways.
Just Ownin (JO from here) - "The answer to every question is ownage. Now let me ask you a question. What is batman's secret identity?"
Damien (Buddy of mine) - "Umm... Ownage?"
JO - "No, its Bruce Wayne."
Damien - "Okaaaaaay...."
JO - "No, you are doing it wrong. You are supposed to argue with me that the answer is ownage because the answer IS ownage!"
That guy was nuts.
I saw him playing ST alone and went to play him, and said "Im going to tell you my entire strategy so you know whats coming. First, ill choose chun li. Next, ill walk at you and press medium punch. Then, you will lose. Ready?"
Ate him alive.

You can go to Evo World and play on your stick like everybody else. Or you can go to dozens of tourneys that allow this as well. Evo North is not one of those tourneys, like it was stated in the rules months ago. The customer is always right but, in this case, you could not expect to play o anything else. Its like asking for a Coke and being furious because you got a Coke instead of a Pepsi. As any event, Evo may have some problems, but this is not one of them.

Yeah, I should've asked for a refund after I played one casual match. Of course, I would have been denied. Again... lesson learned.

Actually, the 3S sticks at this tournament were like asking for a Coke and then being furious because the Coke had no carbonated water and all you got was the nasty syrupy mixture. These sticks were even worse than the Wico 360s a few years ago at MWC, which had previously topped my list of shittiest sticks to ever be used in a major. Thank you Evo North for setting a new standard of shittiness in tournament play! :karate:
Besides that, fun tourney as usual.

LOL, after all these years of us using "shitty" sticks, it's amazing how the same guys are always winning, and same guys never complain and just get their money and leave. (Justin, Nebraska players among others)
Like I said, cabinet 1 was the only issue because of the way it was drilled on 3s. I did not hear any complaints about the other cabinets come tournament time at all, and that goes for every single game. We played on 3 different sets of sticks, including 360s (which I loathe) and I get everything to come out, just tougher to block.
Adjusting seems to be the big issue here. Everyone tries to fault the sticks when they lose because you have to understand "in the heat of the moment" moves will not come out (pressing low forward then doing deep uppercuts as an example) unless you are accustomed to that particular stick. A lot of players wanted their precious "Sanwa" sticks. Years ago they wanted their precious 360s. It never ends.
And to those of you continuously saying that because YOU play on console, EVERYTHING should be on console, even the ONE tournament a year us arcade old men get to look forward to: Try playing on arcade machines for all fighting games for 12-15 years, then try to "sit on the floor", or hold the stick between your legs, and deal with having to clench your forearms down slightly so you can hold the stick down as opposed to having them free, allowing you to take your hands off the joystick to do quicker moves as opposed to having the stick possibly fly all over the place.
All these complaints about arcade, and after playing that CVS2 tournament where sticks won't work, me having to borrow 4 other sticks for each match (different stick each time) and having moves not come out, and still do ok, I think I have a good excuse as to why I would want ARCADE for that particular game. There are two sides to everything, and no one will ever be pleased, but if you want the Sanwas, and want to be like Japan and SBO, realize that THEY PLAY ARCADE mostly.
I think it's beating a dead horse seeing people complain about the sticks when the player simply can't adjust, or complaining about not having console at an announced ARCADE tournament.
This is why you rarely see me enter tourneys anymore, I choose not to play console because I can't play my best on it, simple as that. Others feel the same way about arcade, to each his own.

Actually, I never fault the sticks for losing. Justin earned his victory as usual. You just spent five paragraphs preaching to the choir.
I love arcade, just hate shitty sticks. Everyone who played in the tournament agreed that the sticks were shitty. You are the only player who did not want 360s in the tournament (not that it would've been much better if they were Wico instead of Happ). I can play on shitty sticks just fine, just not 100%. I don't think Justin, myself, or anyone was able to play 100%.
Let's recap:
MVC2: P360s, no complaints. Perfect tournament
Console tourneys: Perfect
3rd Strike: Shitty sticks, everyone complained, but DreamTR is happy because 360s are for noobs and they were meant for NFL Blitz. DreamTR invents an imaginary group of people who prefer shitty sticks to rally support.
Competitions are actually fine too, but in this particular case they were all too loose and the angles were awkward. That's why everyone jumped walking side-to-side, it was harder than normal to super jump the correct direction, and harder than normal to do double fireballs.
Once again, 100% unanimous tournament player decision that 3S sticks were shitty (Minus DreamTR). I am just the one telling you that they were shitty, it could be anyone telling you this and nothing would change.

poonage: I was definitely not the only one who did not want 360s. In fact, I could have cared less to be honest, but there were at LEAST two people (check the old thread leading up to EVO North's dates) as well as Humbag, Sabre, SHAADY, DSP, and some other local Chicago players complaining about 360s in general at that location. CHanging them out did nothing, so we decided to go to switch. I can play 3s on 360s fine. The blocking in that game is wider for some reason, so I don't seem to miss it like I do in ST or CVS2.
As far as the Wico/Happ argument. Happ bought Wico out. Wico 360s are now Happ 360s. Been that way for years. The Perfect 360 Controllers by Happ have not been produced in at least 5-6 years. The only one you can get is the old Wico stick that Happ took over.
The sticks were fine, except for cabinet 1 left side for 3s.... but then again, that's the stick I got knocked out on, so I might even be biased :P

While it's true I don't like 360s either (on that cabinet at Nickels anyway)..I really wanted the switch-out panel cabinet you told me about to make it to MWC..that would make so many people happy.
But I guess its too much trouble to lug that thing across the country.
But yeah everyone was jumping all over the place on the switch sticks..moreso on the main cab but also the one by the party room entrance as well.
Theyre doable, but it just takes getting used to..literally everyone went through this at least one round per match:
- Playing fine on them, everything is going normal.
- Getting hit with an overhead or projectile because they pulled back to block, but it jumped instead.
- Entering a twilight zone where they just start jumping uncontrollably whilst trying to do moves and getting punished because of it.
Anyway I think the bottom line is, that big cabinet that everyone hates every year, needs to go. Its over the hill..the wirings probably jacked up, its just no good..and has been the common denominator for peoples complaints over the last few years.

Ok, i guess ill post this now than later.
To me, its not that the sticks were bad really (couple were jumpy) its just that its the situation i was put in was messing me up.
Jason, i got nothin but respect for you and all the other remaining og's, its just the current majority of players prefer their own equipment. Trying to adjust to new stuff in 2 days is real, real hard. But in this case, it wasnt the equipment at all. I was getting 95-100% of the stuff i wanted (cept cab 1) on the competitions and blocking well. I was just not comfortable at all with how i had to play.
I tried sitting on a stool, but it was too low for how i hold the stick. So i just stood, which was kinda too high but a lot better. Not only that but the 2 other cabs were very small (im a pretty big guy shoulder wise) and forced you to play at an odd angle. I just feel that when i play, there should be a comfort zone which i couldnt obtain once the whole weekend.
All in all i had a great time, even though i was dissapointed with the 3s tourny (which was run great although late). I just dont wanna get to the point were i refuse to go to mwc tournys any more because of how uncomfortable it is.
Of course the good players will continue to win. Most of them have been playing a long time and are used to these types of settings which i lack (only started playing in competitive tournys a year ago). It was just really frustrating for me this last weekend (and others) because i felt i could do better with my own stick.
Once again, let me say that the sticks were fine. It was just the situation we had to play in was very uncomfortable. But what can i say, thats nickel city for ya.

poonage: there were lots of people that didnt mind the sticks, minus cabinet one. dont make it sound like dream was the only one. we all agree cabinet 1 is not great cuz of the poor drilling alignment. cabinet 2 and 3 were fine for me. and 360's do suck. but i trained myself to play on any stick. there are PLENTY of people that were there that didnt want 360's. so dont get dilusional. but its like dream says. we cant please everyone. so please dont think that we are against you guys.
like dream and myself have been saying for months. this is MWC MWC MWC. if anyone knows anything, MWC has always been arcade. ALWAYS. we beat this shit with a dead horse on how it was still arcade on some games. and yet people still went, knowing they couldnt use their sticks, and still bitched up a storm. no one to blame but yourself.
nothing wrong with wanting to use your own stick. i understand. but no need to get all sarcastic and condescending cuz we have decided to stick with tradition and keep it to where the arcade generation can still go and play arcade. you guys got 89765873658736854 console tourneys now. howabout you let us have our one arcade tournament without you guys shitting on it.
as for open stations. you try running 2 huge brackets, 8 stations total, taking registration for another game and sorting the money, and creating a 3rd bracket, and trying to see what stations are open through the sea of people, then trying to remember of the 8 matches you called up to play, to keep track of all of em, so you dont start calling the matches again. i dont think you guys understand the amount of work it takes to do such a thing with only 1 other person. then you gotta deal with the people that dont fucking listen and pay attention, or decide to take off for an hour when they should be playing. thats what really holds a tourney up and leaves stations open. i DQ'ed a lot of people cuz of this. i dont fuck around with this stuff.
honestly, i dont respect anyones opinion on how well the tourney should be ran unless they have done one of this magnitude or bigger, themselves. its a much bigger job than you can imagine when you arent fully staffed.
anyway, enough with all the bs.

I dont think anyone is saying that the open station problem was intentional or due to negligent tournament running, so dont take it that way.
Myself, I've run 32 man weekend long multigame tournaments with little to no help (Pretty much just me and Jose from Columbus)... I know how stressful and unfun running a tourny is. I did it for 6 years. But I'll tell you guys, if its a staffing problem, I'll throw my name in the hat the help out next year. Its like I told Cole... Im more of a tournament organizer than I am a tournament winner.
So come next year, if you guys need a hand, I should be able to lend mine.

Keits and Humbag: I think the point Sabre is trying to get across is that not only was 3s going on, but so was CVS2. Managing 2 64 man bracket tournaments along with chasing people down is the big issue. I don't see why anyone is bringing up the tourney running late. A lot of times this happens because there are latecomers, or other tourneys (like Tekken 5) run late. Console tournaments take the most time, not arcade, and running a major like this is a lot easier than running one tournament where you know everyone is in the same place at the same time. Believe me, I've been running these for 12 years....
Humbag: I'm sorry you don't like the setup at Nickel City, but that is far from a shit arcade. If you can tell me another arcade within 2 states that actually has the proper cabinets and gets fighting games for their players, you should definitely let everyone know. Amar and Wes work very hard to keep those games up and running and I don't know any other place that has the pure amount of fighting games and Q Sound cabinets that they do. You disrespecting the place like that because you are not accustomed to sitting or standing because from what it sounds like you are a console player, is basically the equivalent of coming into my house and just shitting on it. That arcade means a lot to many people, and historically is the longest running tournament going. I still don't know of any other location where you can play a crazy amount of arcade games and wait for matches as opposed to sitting on the floor with joysticks between our legs.
Humbag, if you think arcade sitting or standing is uncomfortable, how can you say console is with the setups we are forcing on people? 20 inch TVS, sitting on floor, sticks unstable; I could go on and on, and if that's comfortable for you, more power to ya, but I am just under the impression a nice stable environment with the same height for both players is the way to go. THey do it in Japan and they used to do it here until we all becamse console crazy.
Shady: shame you did not play on the other cabinets in the tourney when we had them running. 2 and 3 were fine, 1 had that weird issue, but you guys are correct, time to retire that cabinet.

You disrespecting the place like that because you are not accustomed to sitting or standing because from what it sounds like you are a console player, is basically the equivalent of coming into my house and just shitting on it. That arcade means a lot to. many people, and historically is the longest running tournament going.
That place was Great! i'll be back next year offtops sticks seems great but what do i know i play on Japaneses sticks, thx again to Sabre, DreamTr for making this shit happen i had a great time and met sum great players.

Ok here well I'll just go and do this since im bus lag recovered some hehe...So I guess I'll start things off by saying I had a great time at Midwest. Getting to play new and old faces. Meeting really nice people and the atmosphere was refreshing. Now about the tournament itself honestly I dont get into the who beat who and why this person lost to that but I'll make an exception this time since its the internet and people are always gonna find things to talk about regardless. ST I lost to Cole 2-1 then was kocked out by Flash. AE I lost to David Sirlin first round then came back to take 4th losing to Wilson. CVS 2 I only lost once technically. After top 8 I played Rustee and I wasnt suppose to play him. Instead I was suppose to play Wilson for top 5 but they made a mistake with the brackets and after I lost Wilson played Rustee for top 5 instead. I didnt sweat it though because it was an honest mistake and Wilson and Sabre were kind enough to give me my entry fee back so I appreciated the gesture and hold no qualm over it.
With that aside again I had fun at one of the best majors of the year imo. I just want to let people know that Im not so anti-console, Im just very very pro arcade and I appreciate the substance and history of Midwest and aracdes in general. I breifly read through some of the stuff in this thread and like its already been mentioned countless times this was MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIP with the added bonus fopr Evo Quals. I remember talking with a guy outside and he said it was one of his first tournaments and how it didnt have the presentation of an evo and I told him the Evo name was just slapped on there and if you wanted an Evo feel/experience he would have to gone to East, West or World. Like i said before the console/arcade contingent will go on forever. Console players really cant grasp to why aracde players (mostly og's) shit on console etc. Everyone should just respect eachothers games on theyre own playfield wether it be aracde or console...but enough of all the drama. Heres my shouts.........
VDO and the MI crew: VDO its always cool playing you and seeing your p in action and to the rest of the crew its been so long since I've seen all yall since that MI tournament it was good to see you all again come in full force. Hope to see you guys at Big Evo.
Mario (Mighty Mar): We had some kick ass casuals in VS on saturday and yeah that sucked that we couldnt play on sunday but nonetheless VS is da shit and we'll definetly throw down again in vegas.
Camerun: It was fun playing casuals with ya bruh. Good shit on qualifying with top 5 in 3S man. Keep it up.
Cole: We had to have played eachother in 4 different tournaments! It was and always will be a pleasure hookin up with you and chillin man. CF muthafuckin E! Those were some fun ass games.
lol@ when you started playing 3s and said you needed you CFE dash! rofl Big ups on holding down ST like I knew you would. See you in Vegas man.
Adam Heart: Yooo thanks alot again for letting me use your stick for the tournaments man really. You got up there too in ST. Hold it down and hopefully I'll see you at World.
David Sirlin: It was nice to play you again. You got your revenge from Evo East in AE. Good games in A2 too.
Dark Gesse: You got me again man. Dont worry Im gonna get a copy of Battle Collisium soon so i can give you more of a challenge. Props for running everything there and doing what you do best.
Floe: Thanks for the housing on Friday. Your house is godlike!!! lol Good shit in 3S too. See you soon.
NKI: As always you did your thing. We didnt get to play too many casuals but it was cool playing the few games we did play. See you in Vegas bruh!
Sabre: I was looking for you when we were playing VS but yeah you were entirley too busy with things. I can imagine how stressful running a major like Midwest is and all the props to you and Jason. Also I didnt know you knew about Smash either, its gonna be crazy at Worlds.
Jesse Howard: It was nice talking with you for a brief moment. You seem like a cool guy. Nice stuff on top 4. See you around.
Wes: Also nice talking with you and playing you in casuals. Take care.
Simon: Didnt get to talk too much but you did your thing no doubt. See you in a few months man.
Min: Always cool chillin with you man. I'll proprably see you at CF soon and good stuff in cvs.
DXP: Good to see you at Midwest after so long. Hope you enjoyed yourself too. See you at Evo World.
ps: Wrestling sucks these days doest it!?
SinjiGohan: Only got a few games in EX 3 and we should have played more since thats your powered up version! hahaha Next time though! Thanks for picking me up as always and thanks for the offer back. Take it easy man.
Juicy G: Cool to see you again. You should play more ST. Anything goes in the Savage Lands! lol
Fubarduck: It was cool to talk to you and play you for the first time in 3S see you at Evo.
Eric V: Im glad everything was cool for you. Nice talks and hopefully we could get some CFE in this time in vegas if you go.
Blazinfo: Thanks for letting me crash with you and Cole. Hope you got home safe.
Rustee: Even if we werent suppose to play eachother when we did GG's. It was nice to meet you and hopefully I'll see you in Vegas soon. Take it easy man.
Wilson: You always throw a fun tourny in that of Midwest. For 2 years in a row I played in the mystery tournament and for the second year the mystery tourny glory has eluded me. :( Maybe you can explain to me how I lost when I clearly outplayed DXP in 2/3 of the games in the finals. ehh Regardless win or lose it was really fun and Im glad you came up with the idea to run it at Midwest.
Watson... I appreciate the comment man really. Honestly I wish I had the time to go to Cali and play you in AE. Noone in NY plays or wants to practice with me for some reason. Despite the fact I knew I was good enough to at least get Top 4. Anyway hopefully we can get some games in HF in Vegas since I hear you've been playing that latley. :) See you in a couple months bruh.
We'll I tried my best to get everyone and if I didnt then I apologize but either way everyone made Midwest a cool experience once again. Also although I came short on numerous occasions there..I tried my best and I'll do better next time. So I'll see you all on the grandeststage of em all. Evo World!!

Oh shit I just remembered about the "Just Ownage" guy.
He was talking to me when Justin Wong and one of his friends pulled him away for an on-camera interview. I NEED to see this interview. That guy was totally hillarious... highlight of the weekend in some ways.
Friday night, someone (I'm not sure who) was filming him jibba jabbin' on and on while I was standin' outside with Eric and Justin. If that video comes up, I'd love to see it.
That kid kills me, Seriously! It hurts me to hear him speak. He asked me to hold his "sceptor" while he adjusted his backpack and I did, he then asked me if I could "Feel the power running through my body!" and apologized when he took the power away from me.

I was talking to Just Ownage, and I dont think 2Ds are his thing though. No disrespect to the man, but we must've played like 20 matches of Double Impact and 30 matches of Super Turbo, and I pretty much dominated him in 98% of those matches. He really didnt seem to have a handle on Ryu (his only character he played) at all. Unless he was seriously holding back, 2D fighters doesnt seem to be his thing.
Now 3D fighters, man, that guy talked up a storm about DOA4 for like half an hour! I learned some things from him about that game. My feeling is that he would completely own me in DOA and Tekken, but if he ever reads this, I wouldnt mind learning from him about these games.
As usual, Jason Wilson runs a stand-up fun-ass tournament. If only I could still play on american controls, it would have been perfect. Too used to Japanese stuff though. Oh well.
Up next EVO West!

Congrats to Cole for being dirty and doing what you do.
Wes and Jesse - it was good to see you guys again. You should come to more tourneys!
Thanks to Wilson, Sabre, Seth, Sirlin, and everyone else for running the tourney. Good times.
It was great to see everyone again. Much thanks to everyone involved in running the tournaments. It was a great event and the sticks (at least on the ST machines) worked great. I probably won't be at any of the other tournaments this year, I'm getting married in October so that pretty much dominates the bank account and I really don't have the desire to continue to compete without more competition to practice against on a regular basis.
I can practice all sorts of pretty shit that doesn't win games. Being clutch is what always wins in SF (and that's exactly what I am not). I really don't see a progression in my game without any new/different competiton. Maybe I'll get the bug to play again someday. It would maybe be nice to have an old man gathering someday just to play some ST against some great players outside of my area.
Anyway, gg's to:
Thanks to Wilson, Sabre, Seth and George for running a great tournament and having tip top sticks to play on this weekend.
Sirlin: good taking to you, gg's (hopefully I didn't bore you too much) and I hope to see the remixed HD version of ST someday. Congrats on 2nd in ST.
Cole: thanks for eliminating me in 2 games=) As always, it was a pleasure playing and hangin out. I wish I could've given you a more competitve set in the tournament(s). Not enough crazy Ken for the win (p.s. new Ken's dp sux). Good luck at evo.
VDO: keep playing. Your execution always amazes me in cvs2.
NKI and crew: good seeing y'all. Robot chun rawks my world=)
Much thanks to the MN crew and Stephan for lending me his stick for cvs2 and for the ride to the train station.
DXP: Random 3-hit air hurricane comboed to sweep to dizzy you for the win owns. I got lucky that round. You're a great player, much respect.
Thanks to all others who came and played and supported the event. I tried to include everyone but it's late and I'm old. Keep playing all-

Thanks again to everyone that showed and hopefully we will see you again next year!

dude, geese, theres more to the weekend in its entirety when it came to bad luck. like lots of other shit happened throughout the weekend that was like "WTF." even at the airport on the way back. ill save that story for another day. it was just an odd weekend and my bad luck never ceased to amaze me. the gods were not shining on me that day. seemed like they were peeing on me and laughing it up instead(it did rain periodically that weekend rofl)
good shit with all the snk stuff man. i may not play snk games, but nothing but respect there. i wanted to enter garou(great game), but obviously as you saw, way too busy. hopefully this new kof will peak my interest and get me into the series.

Ok so just to clear the air I'd like to fully understand how the Nintendo World Cup point system works because in all honesty it made no sense how I lost!
Heres the synapsis... Phil starts off he loses horribly in Mario Bros and does good in Rad Racer but bombs in Tetris. I play and wipe his score off the ground, so now the score resets.
2nd set Phil starts off again watched what I did in Mario and repeated. Appearantly he didnt know that you can enter the third warp pipe for coins...
so he does well in radracer and not so well in Tetris! Knowing he was gonna copy what i did i switched it up in mario by dying at the first pit after aquiring the 11 coins after it. Did this 4 times. Play rad racer and yes Phil did do better than me in Radracer but I completely smoked him in Tetris. I believe he got to level two and i got to level 4 almost 5 so please explain to me how I lost.
*Looks at Wilson and Sabre*
Explanation please because as far as im concerned I won that mystery tournament...it made absolutley no sense to me and even Phil was saying "I won" as i was playing and that it was bullshit that i lost.
Please explain!
Thanks!!
Keits

Jeron: Super Mario score is x 1. Rad Racer score is X 10. Tetris is X 25. You blew it in Tetris, simple as that. Not like the cart is going to make up stats. It's a timed 6:21 cart. You need to do well in Tetris. The faster you get to Tetris, and the more consistent you are in it is the key to victory, I'm surprised you lost too, because you had so much time in Tetris, but when Phil completed a few lines , you just kept trying to set up stuff, which takes more time off the clock. "Turtling" is not going to win this game when your Tetris score is multiplied X25. He won by over 20,000 points. I even mentioned to someone before the tourney was ending that it was going to be close because you kept waiting around in Tetris and not producing lines...
Again to recap:
Super Mario x 1
Rad Racer X 10
Tetris x 25
As low as the scores were with you guys playing (120-140K)
Phil completed the first level of Super Mario, and got over 20,000 points doing it, and you finished faster, but probably only got around 7,000 because you did not finish Level 1-1. This only works well if you are getting Tetrises like mad, but backfires in close matches like this unfortunately.
Rusty: Dunno, all the TVS had crap like that happen. I think it was damaged in shipment...

I'll enter again next year, for sure. I got really unlucky, it seems, playing the two games that had incredibly poor controls/gameplay (Tyson, which I won at by picking Tyson.. and wrestlefest.) Everything else was obscure, but decent. (I think, maybe I missed one or two more of the gems you guys found).

Illiniowa <3
Jeron, you already know what's up. We gotta play TMNT one of these times tho!
Guilty Gear people, you are WAY beyond me at this point. Can't even understand what the hell you all talk about anymore...
Sirlin, good stuff in the team tourney, Chipp really seems to be far and away your best character. Congrats on ST as well!
NKI, thanks for all the ST rape. I was the short dude picking Gief.
Shinji, thanks once again for all the EX goodness. I was friggin dead tired or else I would've joined in on the EX3 action. =/
Random123 - That was a crazy story you were telling there! Hopefully everything's fine now. And good stuff in NGBC/Tenka, we both gotta level up now!
Alec, many thanks once again for bringing all your Neo gear, we appreciate it!
Humbag, you are one scary mofo when you lose. It's all good though, I'm learning RB2 Geese now so you'll have some more comp next time. =)
Dark Geese, still one of the nicest damn people I have ever met in this scene. I admire your dedication, and you keep leveling up your skills every time! Now go pwn the noobs in Mexico! =P
Finally...
Wilson, Sabre, et al. - Many, MANY thanks for putting on one of the best tournaments around. Although I wasn't part of the arcade generation, I appreciate the gesture you are making to those who were.
Sorry if i forget anyone else. Awesome weekend! =)

I was basically being min's punching bag before the competition started for evo north . I'm glad I got to face him (casually, not offically). He gave me a few tips to become a better player over all. I feel less scrubish losing to him now that he got 2nd in cvs2. I will get better, and maybe face him (and others) offically.
