Don't know how interested people are in this. It's gotten pretty hard to find the DOA4 stick for a reasonable price (I bought mine for $118 on eBay, it retailed for $60), so this is awesome.
I'll be picking up at least one of these VF5 X360 sticks, to either have as a replacement for my DOA4 stick or to sell once they stop making them, lol.

Same, I reeeeeally hope it's not an 8 button layout.
Personally, I hope it's exactly like the DOA4 stick, just with a different aesthetic.

Are Hori's 360 sticks(DOA4/VF5/EX2/OMFG/whatever) all of good quality? I'm not really interested in modding it unless it's crappy out of the box. I'm really only gonna use it to play at home wth friends and online.

This is going to be exactly like the DoA4 stick except it has VF5 stickers for you to decorate it.
You should buy this just for the VF5 stickers because it is so cool and stuff!
No... I'm not being serious. I would buy this just because I don't want a DoA4 picture on my stick. The design on it is nice too!
It's stupid that the only thing this stick has in relation to VF5 are the stickers.

Hi guys!
I just bought the stick at my local gamestop.
Luckly, I haven't opened it. And I have 28 days left if I want to return it.
I'm deciding wether to keep it, sell it or return it.
My questions (if you guys can help out) are,
1) How easy is it to mod? Is the same as the DOA stick?
2) How "good" is it out of the box?
Thanks in advance. :)

Just bought this stick and having problems on trying to get it to work on MAME. Windows recognizes the stick and installs the proper drivers. When going to Control Panel-> Game controllers, the buttons/stick register and whatnot. However, it will not work on MAME.
Any help regarding this issue?
EDIT: NM. Got it to work. JoyToKey works perfectly :wgrin:
All the stores in the Boston area had no clue what I was talking about I will have to call again tomorrow. I really want one of these for Hyper Fighting.

For some reason, its showing the joystick as the hat switch, but the x and y axises are not show in the control panel. When going to a game, say AB, the game doesn't read the hat switch and continues to scroll upwards because of the missing axises. If there was something to map the hat switch to the x and y axises, that will solve the problem most of us have.

XBCD drivers will not work for the stick. The computer recoginzes the stick at the Fighting Stick EX2 and forces the download of the microsoft drivers. But when you try to install the XBCD drivers, it won't let you.

Just tried that, it won't work for this stick because it identifies it as the Fighting Stick EX2, and not the DOA4 stick or a xbox 360 controller. The drivers just won't match.

Just bought one of these and modded it with a real Sanwa JFL. It was a total pain in the ass. #1 you have to used a dremel to make it fit. #2 the Sanwa is to tall on the inside for the hori case so I had to dremel the end of the Sanwa shaft about 1/8" (sparks everywhere ) and slightly ballpin hammer the metal cover so the Sanwa wouldn't rub the base plate.
#3 you can't used one common ground for the joystick which means you have to cut the connections from the Sanwa PCB for each ground and solder a separate ground for each direction. #4 I didn't even try to replace the buttons because the hori PCB is directly soldered on top of the buttons with out any wires making it no fun to rewire.
Anyway... happy modding!

ive been having some trouble as well, though im using macmame. i had no problem in the past using DOA4, VSHG, or a regular 360 pad.
any help would be nice, i had no idea that many people were having trouble
only thing i can come up with is that the stick is running off the Game for Windows controller rather than the 360 controller technology. That's the only reason i don't think it's compatible, then again, i heard Microsoft was real strick about third party support for their controllers (just look at the x arcade case)

We don't want microsoft to work on the drivers, thats how we got this problem with our sticks in the first place. It's just dumb to put the actual stick as the hat switch, what does microsoft have against stick players. Of matter of fact what does microsoft have against keyboard and mouse players, steering wheel players, and stick players?

Question is, did it register the stick as the hat switch or the x and y axis. If it registers it as the hat switch, you can't use it in BBB, AB, MBAC, and other fighters that are not emulator based. Thats the problem. I don't care about emulation that much for that half assed of a driver to be used on here. I just might as well used my pelican converter with my Hrap.

In which case, you CAN use a program such as xpadder, etc, to bind the directions to keyboard buttons. My friend has one and does this, so you can't tell me it doesn't work.

But does it work in AB, quick answer, no. AB will only see if there is an x and y axis one, it sees it and continues to scroll on the main menu because of the lack of control. Two, xpadder can't really fix that problem cause it can't get the x and y axis under control. Again, it probably does work on emulators, i'm not questioning that, but it will not work on games like AB or BBB because the first this it will look for is those x and y axis and when it gets ahold of it always being in the man, the menu will continue to scroll. But, again, i don't care that much, i'll just use my pelican on my hrap and play AB on that.

This is what i'm trying to tell you. Xpadder will allow you to map your joystick directions to keys on your keyboard. (and yes, xpadder can handle it properly) meaning up = up arrow key, or whatever you want. thus, the game will read it as "up arrow key". Meaning, it works in games like BBB, AB, etc. If you're too lazy to take this extremely short step to allow your stick to work in a game then that's your problem.
JDash247

Man, AB is catching the joystick axis of x and y first before, during and after the up arrow is hit. This this is scrolling on its own because it recognizes a joystick.
Question then, if i map the up arrow to the up hat, will it stop the y axis from going to extremes? What I would have to do to get this stick up it basically use joy2key, xpadder, or another software for everything. Plus, AB will still read those axis unless you find a way to turn off the input from the joystick. Mapping doesn't fix everything, the problem is not will it work, but can I get it to stop "auto-scrolling" in games where the movement axis is understood?
Edit: Dude just forget about it, its not a big deal. As I said before I got this primarily for my 360. I got a HRAP on a pelican converter for my computer. Its really not a big deal. Plus, I absolutely hate using joy2key, xpadder, or any other mapping software. Its not because of the program itself, its just that I hate things running in the background on my computer.

You can, but you will need to remove some of the plastic that borders the part where you put the buttons. Thats what I had to do with my doa stick. It is just better to use snap-ins, but if that isn't an option, just bring out the dremel.

I don't think I wanna go to all that trouble to replace the whole joystick (I don't have a dremel nor do I want to fuck up anything) but if I could easily put in a new gate and some better buttons, that might make the EX2 worth picking up.

might not be easiest, but doesn't look too terrible hard either
maybe it just seems that way cuz i'm a silly noob

Is there any difference between the US and JP versions or is it all the same shit? I picked up the DOA4 stick at Gamestop a year ago and think it's a huge piece of crap compared to the HRAP or a good custom stick, so I'm hoping there's something better for when ST HD comes out.

How would you go about safely removing the HORI gate? It's attached to the joystick with tabs on each of the four sides. This is my first stick, so I don't want to break it
EDIT: Never mind, I got it.
EDIT(2): You can't be serious... the drill isn't working.
EDIT(3): Couldn't find anything to put holes in the Sanwa gate, so I decided to just align the gate with the micro switches. It works! No drilling required.

i was messing around with mine, and after unscrewing everything i just unsnapped the sides and it came right off. went back on easily, too
still works>shrugs<

try asking in the custom stick threat at the top. just see how they put those cool pics on their hrap2 and whatnot and maybe that'll point you in the right direction, even if they can't provide you with some template or whatnot, it's worth a shot
i'm sure someone there has a good idea for you.

Just got this this week, my first joystick coming from an snes pad background :) My only complaint is that its a little light and I find it moving around if I get too excited during a game. Are there any preferred or easy ways to add weight/stability?

I played with the stick for about 3 hours and it worked fine. Yesterday, I got someone to drill the holes for me. The two set-ups are identical in terms of performance, except the gate is now more tightly secured.

I could have sworn someone posted a DOA stick template, but I can't seem to find that anymore. Can someone post it up again?
Also, I think the best way to do the art is to print it out, laminate it, and then use some spray on adhesive.

Hyper Fighting doesn't work properly on MAME. The game runs faster than normal, which is probably why it feels oversensitive.

Ok I got the stick working fine in windows, no need for xpadder or anything like that, just use this guide I found:

just got this stick for vf5 and for mame.
i cant seem to get it running in windows- yes its pnp, but when i first tried installing it, it read the hardware as "EX2 FIGHTING STICK" but when it went around looking for the drivers it only partially installed them, stopping giving me an error 37 saying there's something wrong with the memory reading some memory address.
then i tried going to microsoft's website, to get the 360 controller's drivers. i even got xpadder, and now nothings reading the joystick.
my device manager has an exclamation point right next to what says "XBOX 360 Controller", and shows only a few of the drivers installed.
im using windows xp, media center edition on a laptop. anyone got any issues like this?
btw the stick works fine on xbox360.

I don't get why ppl need the driver to make it work on a comp. I got mine a couple of hours ago, pluged it in, and mame worked smooth as allways.

the issue is this:
1)Plug in the Hori Xbox 360 Fighting Stick EX2, and install it with the default Microsoft Drivers (which your computer should find automatically through Windows Update).
my computer isn't installing the default microsoft drivers w/ windows update. everytime it does, it runs into an error.
shadow, when you plugged it in did windows do anything with it at all (like automatically install drivers)?

It did install the default driver when i plugged it in. Try to restart that might help.

found my issue:
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/544953-code-37-microsoft-xbox-360-a.html
the guy replying said he did it in safe mode and it worked fine...but then i seem to have the same issue as this guy:
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/610928-xbox-360-wired-controller-problem.html
im pretty much just gonna give up on getting this to work on windows.

can anyone confirm that this stick IS usable for the original xbox SF anniversary on xbox360?
im looking at a few reviews that i google'd and there seems to be a few people complaining about the LT/RT and the LB/RB buttons since the LB and RB are located on the top of the stick. but from my experience, LT ends up being the same command as RB and RT ends up being the same command as LB. which would make SF anniversary playable.
can anyone confirm that im either right about this and/or that the EX2 is perfectly fine to play on SF anniversary?

You can use it fine you just have to remap the controls for the game. Also you may want to look into the circle gate mod if your gonna play alot of SF.

I still have problems with MAME.
I get this error here even if I've disabled Joystick input in MAME's controller settings.
http://upload.pbase.com/image/100648092/original.jpg
I thought "Fine... lets install Xpadder then" so I did that but it MAME still refuses to acknowledge input because it thinks that it's coming from joystick and not the keys even though xpadder is running in the background. :arazz:
I'm pretty sure that it's my own fault for installing the drivers I found here:
http://xbcd360guide.50webs.com/download.html
Now I can't seem to uninstall them without making windows install them automatically again when I insert the stick.
Any tips?
