It's really good.

I've played a variety of online SF games. From XBox Live, ZBattle and Kaillera, even clear back to the Callus days.

GGPO is the best SF experience I've ever had on my PC, although it's a toss up in my eyes if it's better than XBox Live.

Keep in mind, my XBox Live connection is REALLY good, and I don't get much lag when I play people. So saying GGPO is nearly as good (or maybe as good) is a really strong compliment.

Many kudos go out to Ponder for making just a wicked sick program. For playing Street Fighter on a PC, this is going to be where it starts and ends.

Awesome job.

The best way to make this happen is to let the game companies know that GOOD online play is important, and you won't put up with more laggy online fighters. Fortunately, Capcom has a BBS for feedback from gamers (hint)

Though, you'd speak the loudest by just not buying their games. BUT then they wouldnt make any more fighters, either. So, its like you keep buying them and telling them what they put out is okay... or you stop, and so do they.

Can't there be a copyright or something put on this technology? I remember a previous thread that was talking about it. The guy(s) who coded GGPO would be jillionaires. Oh how I wish to play lagless MvC2... Oh how I wish...

WTF? It's not that serious. Boycotting a company that doesn't make any money off of the genre of games we like isn't going to help. If we dont let them know we're interested in what they are doing to keep the fighting game community alive (even if it's not exactly to our liking) then we're definitely screwed. Even if we were to try and just buy all of their games out of support...2d fighting games especially dont sell like they used to.

Like Ponder said...you just need to get on their website and let them know.

I agree I do think the net code is great. I think most of the noticeable lag experienced is due to poor/bad connections. We have 2 redundant dedicated T1 lines in my condo since its a much cheaper option than each resident in the building to pay individually for cable or DSL and we get much much faster speeds with no bandwidth limits. The lag I experience with GGPO seems to be from people with bad connections. I have had many great games where even the music /sound is damn near perfect if not perfect. I do notice it gets wacky and slows up when I start button mashing though. I am not sure if thats an emulator issue.

Right. Thats exactly what I said.

Consumers speak loudest with their wallets, but in this case, its a double edged sword. So, the best bet is to get vocal on their BBS.

I live in FL and I played someone who lived in portland, OR the other day with very little lag. Out of thousands or maybe millions of frames played, i'd say only about 5% of them were actually lost which is an inconvieveable # for online fighter play. GGPO kicks the shit out of xbox live for fun!

its hard to believe that online street fighter w\ no lag is here. They said it couldn't be done and ggpo shitted down their mouths and asked one how does it taste!

you don't even need a great PC. Just the standard upgrades like a decent video card and possibly an extra stick of ram. My pc has 866 mhz and A2 never looked better.
