It was good, if you like KI2. I really didn't like KI2 that much. I'm still wondering why they called it "Gold" instead of "2". I'm just mad that the controller sucked, and the lazy fuckers didn't give us KI1. If you can tolerate the shitty, lackluster, over-rated and generally half-assed snes KI port, then you'll LOVE this.

if I recall I have some matches recorded from like 2 years ago. I will upload them to YT someday.

KI Gold is pretty shit. It looked shitty, had most of its FMV scenes and several frames of character animation removed. Oh and how can I forget what an ultra combo was like in that game, ZOOM IN and enjoy the blurry pixelated mess.

KI snes was a much better game if you could just live with the MASSIVE graphical downgrade.

PS - If I were you I'd look for the arcade KI roms.

Ki Gold was fun. The combo system was much more organized and easy to follow than the snes one.
I hear the game turned into a turtle fest with all the combo breakers >_>

I still have a functioning copy.

The game is quite the turtle fest and rather dumb at pro-level. And it's stupid any other way, too.

What's the tier list for this jank?

i seem to remember Kim Wu being retardedly good back when i had comp for this game
old tiers were something like Kim Wu and Spinal top, then Jago, Combo and Maya ( Maya was way easy mode ), then everyone else

I remember playing the hell out of this back when it first came out for the N64. The main thing I can remember is just how easy it was to set somebody up for and keep them in an endless juggle. When me and my friends played it was just a race to see who could knock the other one into the air first because then it was all over.

I wondered why they called it KI "Gold", as if to imply it was somehow better than the arcade version. But even with 3D backgrounds, it still sucked. KI2 was decent, but the horribly akward N64 controller made trying to pull off fancy combos a real pain, in addition to the aforementioned graphical problems.

The Killer Instinct series could have been much better than it was had Rare used some of the standard mechanics of the time(Guard Crush, dash/run, recoveries and a limit to how many timeis you can break a combo come to mind), but Killer Instinct 2 just pissed me off completely because they made the game's look even more generic than the first and made no improvements over the first(If I am wrong please feel free to correct me).

And the fact that the game was'nt rendered in 3D and tailored around the N64's hardware is retarded IMO. Looking back though its as if they didnt really care about it and it really shows now. I hope Rareware dies a horrible death for what it did to PD and KI.

This game needed work. I liked part one better because I was actually working for my combos. In part two, i'd use Tusk or whatever his name is and "skillfully" mash my way into his ultra. I was like, wtf is this bs..put so much time into Jago and discovered I can just mash with Tusk to win *tear*.

Its <paper-rock-scissor> combo system it adopted for the second game really killed it. At least with KI, you felt like you could make up combos and strategies on the spot. In KI2, if the tutorial said move X didn't work against move Y, thats it, end of discussion.

Sucks.:lame:

It made me want an arcade version of KI2.

I liked more KI2 than 1. More aggressive gameplay the supers and throws added a lot to the game. KI1= turtle fest. I will want to know HOW could you turtle in KI2. Its just not possible. Top tiers Maya and Sabrewulf. Then everyone else. Kim at the bottom with Combo whose charge moves were useless.

wow, were they really that bad? :wow:
maya and sabrewulf i can see, but damn, what made kim and combo so bad?

Combo: Charge moves with ass properties that didnt help him. Only jumping HCB + MK that stuns and it was predictable and consumed super meter. Kim: Lack of antiair only in wakeup (HCF + MK wasn good) and predictable overall moveset slow even after pressure moves or crouching attacks.

I could go on a bit deep on it but im very busy right now, if you want.

I had a lot of fun playing KI2 back in the day, but playing KI Gold with the N64 controller was kinda hard which sucked because I for one liked the (original KI2) game.
