I've been looking for a new controller, but it's hard to tell from pictures whether a controller would actually work well or not. So I would definitely be interested (and I think a other people would be too) in what people have to say about the controllers they've been using.
I've been using a RedOctane PSX stick, with some old PSX to PC converter I bought years ago. It works pretty well... I'm not sure if there's converter lag or not, I'd like to try out a controller with a direct USB connection and see if I notice a difference. The stick is a bit loose and I can't do controller motions as quick as I want, plus I'm tired of having to sit on the floor, so if I can find a really good pad I'd use it over the stick.
I also tried the standard Dual Shock PS2 pad, which is complete ass for SF. Diagonals just don't work as well as you need them to.
I was especially wondering if anyone's tried that $10 Logitech Precision pad (link (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00030AX3Q/)). I've also heard some good things about the Saitek P220 pad... and when I looked around at some stores earlier, the Saitek pads seemed to have the best directional pads.

If you find out that your PSX to USB adapter has no noticeable lag, I would recommend an original PSX or PS1 DS controller.

I had one of these for about 8 months (logitech) and while it was quite forgiving in terms of inputs (I could do kof98 fireballs and super jumps flawlessly, which I can't do 100% with any other kind of pad), it also broke because the controller contacts eventually got dislodged and I couldn' t find any way to put them back in position and hold them together.
If you're able to pry it apart yourself and fix it then do so by all means, but be warned that it's a very flimsy pad, even though it handles extremely well as a fighting game controller. You get what you pay for.
I now use a traditional non-dual shock ps1 pad through a converter as Kane above me suggested. Some things about the controller are quite stiff i.e. DP's don't always come out 100% and you really have to work the the full motion of a quarter circle sometimes, but it's sturdy and once you get used to the way it handles it's pretty reliable in terms of input. Not bad for a controller model that's probably about 10 years old.

Anyone know how the DoA4 stick stacks up to say.. The old DC stick or any random Ascii ones?

If you want an adapter with no lag, try to see if you can get a Red Octane PS2 -> PC/Xbox/GC adapter. I use it with a T5 stick and it works like a charm. Also works really well for the Xbox without any lag.
Another alternative is to find that Saturn Pad that Sega made just for the PS in conjunction with the Red Octane. Not sure where you would get one now though. <.<;
I can't really help you much with using a pad straight up, but if you want your pad to be hackable in the future, do not get the logitech precision. It doesn't have common grounds and I wasted money on it trying to use it as a usb pcb for my stick. I just gave it a quick run to make sure it worked before I hacked it and it seemed fine. The saitek is definitely hackable and if you want your pad to be able to be put into a stick in the future then get either that one or a thrustmaster firestorm digital 3.
Doa4 stick works well with the xbcd drivers, good economy stick if you don't want to get a vshg or hrap3. Just save yourself the trouble and don't get a converter if you don't want to deal with input delay.

Saitek pads also have the best button layout for fighitng games.
Anyway, there's a new model (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=880928) coming out soon (ships on Tuesday, 7/5/07). I'm going to pick one up and test it out. I'll be sure to write up a brief impression.

Ive got a similar logitec usb controller to the one you posted and from the image the d-pad looks to be the same. With that said the one I have is a piece of shit and you'd be lucky to throw out a fireball with 50% accuracy, don't even try an srk unless you want another fireball. But that is the one I have and its not exactly the same model.

All those pads look terrible. Save up some money and buy a Sega Saturn pad or get a stick. Better off using the keyboard/PS2 pad.

That's the same pad I have. The only complaint I have is the D-pad, which can get annoying at times.

PC pads in general feel pretty cheap to me. They just feel flimsy and light. Even the Microsoft Sidewinder back in the day didn't feel like it could take abuse despite it's girth. I've never owned one recently (just the gravis 4 button SNES wannabe pad back in the day that you could attach a mini stick to the d-pad too as well as the capcom street fighter 6 button controller that came with the PC version of SSF2 or Megaman X). This is just from testing out the feel of them at places that have demo models of them on display, like Best Buy or Circuit City.
Maybe it's just me?

Btw guys,
Does anyone knows if there's any good Saturn/USB converter? I have a decent arcade stick here (+ a Saturn pad) that I would like to use on GGPO. I'm kinda sick of playing on keyboard since it's kinda bad... :(

Chocobo, do you like the 360 controller? Maybe give that a shot if you have a 360 system. =P
My friend tells me there's a reciever you can use too for like $19 to use your contoller on the pc that microsoft made.

I have the Saitek P220. It's a good pad- until it breaks. I'm on my 4th pad- but at $10 a pop it's not so bad. They've been discontinued I think so good luck finding one. They don't work with this FB emulator.
Usually the cause of pad break is playing Gaira in SS5SP where you have to spaz around the pad like a moron for damage on his grab.

Alienware PS2/PC controller. Looks interesting. Works for both. I'm almost tempted to buy one myself.
Anyone have one and can give a review about it?
Personally, I have a Logitech controller, and a 360 controller.. and the 360 controller runs/feels the best for me. Most controllers I have found have problems with diagonals. The 360 one does not.
I am a little bit biased though, being that I used a xbox controller for 2 years in 3s, until finally purchasing a HRAP2 for my ps2.

I switch back and forth between a DoA4 stick and this PC pad http://www.shopping.com/xPR-Thrustmaster-FireStorm-Digital-2-2960538 .
I've had this pad for a long time and have not had any trouble executing what I want with it in any game. Hell, I think my execution is better with it than the DoA4 stick.
