So I know some people have had to resort to using either Xpadder or Joy2Key just to be able to use a joystick in Final Burn. Which sounds all well and good, but let's face it - when you're emulating keyboard input through a joystick, move/button detection is NOT going to be as good as when a stick is connected directly. And this has been annoying me greatly because with Xpadder/Joy2Key, I could never consistently do the CC activation. No matter which 3 buttons I hit, hell sometimes I hit all 6 just hoping some of them would work, but I couldn't get it to activate every time.
Then I realized.... why use Xpadder / Joy2Key for everything on the joystick in the first place, when you could just use it ONLY on the troublesome button 6? I should have thought of that a long time ago.
optional directions for getting everything set up:
1. Open Final Burn by itself, load SFA2, go to the Input menu. Set everything as Defaults. This should setup Joystick 1 as the 2P controls (why this is default, I don't know...)
2. Close Final Burn. Go into the cfg folder and edit sfa2.ini. Swap all instances of Player 1 with Player 2, and vice versa. If the 6 buttons aren't setup the way you want them on your stick, you might have to play around with the number values to get them to match the layout you want.
3. Open Final Burn back up and start SFA2 again. Go to the Input menu again. Disconnect your joystick while the program is still running. Now you can reassign Button 6 to anything on the keyboard. In this case we'll use "G" (for Gangsta).
4. Close Final Burn again, now run Xpadder or Joy2Key. Set Button 6 to "G" or whatever you set Button 6 to in Final Burn. DO NOT SET ANYTHING ELSE.
5. Open Final Burn one last time and test that everything's working. With any luck you'll be able to activate CC's every time now, as long as you're not activating through Button 6! (I usually use Jab+Strong+Short to activate, which is Button 4 + 5 + 1 on my stick)
Hopefully I'm not the last person to realize how simple a solution this was for using Xpadder / Joy2Key while still keeping everything playable. Hope it works for anyone else having the stuck button problem.
